I have made my feelings on Tony Grossi pretty well known. But I have to give him credit. The only thing he did better than apply tanning cream, was keep that traitor Art Modell out of the Hall of Fame. Now, with last week's announcement that you would be replacing Grossi as one of the 44 voters for the Hall of Fame, it's time we had a talk.
I know that Modell wasn't a semi-finalist for the HOF in '12. The fact that he has been in the past makes you believe that his chances of getting in are growing slimmer every season.
Don't be fooled.
Time heals all wounds. That is how the national guys will start to see it. Especially if Modell's health begins to falter. After all, the man is 86 years old. Some people will start to rally around the old turd. "Get him in while he is still alive!" they'll say. Hell, Peter King, who has a vote for the Hall of Fame, has already been on record as saying the Browns move was as much the fault of the city of Cleveland as it was Modell's. The fact that someone who has a HOF vote can pervert a situation that badly makes me scared.
I don't wish death on the old man. I'll leave that for someone else, but this country loves the redemption story. This country almost put Mike Vick on the cover of Madden a year after being the most hated human on earth. You really think people won't see an old man just wanting to go out on top?
This is on you. You have to be the one who reminds the voters that Modell was a snake, a liar, a slumlord and above all else, a greedy bastard that cared about no one but himself.
No matter what dumb shit Art pulled, his fans were right there to back him up. He owned the worst stadium in the league. He didn't even replace broken windows. He never fixed shit. Yet we loved it. We paid through the nose to sit in the freezing temperature just to root on our Browns. But the first chance he got, he stabbed us in the back.
Maybe I'm weird, but I feel like the Hall of Fame belongs to the Browns. It's in our backyard. The rest of the NFL can claim to be part of the Hall of Fame, but they have to come into our yard to see it. For three years the Hall of Fame was the closest we came to having football.
That asshole Art Modell took our team. Don't let him walk back into our yard to have the football world kiss his ring. He doesn't deserve that.
Mary Kay Cabot please do the right thing. Stand on the table and make sure that Art Modell never sees the inside of the Hall of Fame without a ticket.
-Signed, Browns fans everywhere.

pwndabear - February 2, 2012
I totally just took out a huge loan in your name, thanks.
North Coast Flea - February 2, 2012
Only joking. (To cover my bases in case some asshole does steal your signature for something shady.)
North Coast Flea - February 2, 2012
That really doesn’t seem like a smart idea…
Brownsbacker488 - February 2, 2012
you have no idea how many things people sign all over the place everyday. my signature would be very easy to get if someone wanted it, even before posting it on here.

I just looked up the articles from this issue, and Modell certainly stabbed the whole city of Cleveland in the back. I know Baltimore fans would say you can’t steal what you what own, but Modell certainly doesn’t deserve to be in the Hall of Fame. He made horrible business decisions and shady deals, and than betrayed one of the most loyal fan-bases in the NFL. I have yet to hear the argument for why he does deserve to be in the Hall of Fame.
If anyone is interested here is the link to the old articles. I had to refresh the pages a few times because I getting a timed out message, but they all worked eventually.

Those articles should be required reading for any of those haughty Ravens fans that like to defend Modell. Especially, the “A Busted Play” article. It was written by Lester Munson, a national writer of SI at the time and not local to Cleveland.
Somebody should let Raffel read it as well as he is the ringleader over there and a staunch Modell defender.

I agree with 99% of your post except for this:
Although Vick committed a real, illegal crime, he paid his dues while being in prison and paying all those fines. The guy is a better person now, and has rightfully earned his respect in the NFL again. Art Modell on the other hand has never faced the consequences of what he did to our Brownies. I don’t think it’s fair to Vick to compare him to Modell.
Brownsbacker488 - February 2, 2012
And for the record I don’t wish for Modell to burn in hell like the rest of you if not just because I don’t believe in such a thing, but more so because that is not true justice in my eyes. What Modell deserves to witness is watching the Browns dominate Baltimore for the next 5-10 years while he’s still alive.
Brownsbacker488 - February 2, 2012
hear hear hear
LondonBrown - February 2, 2012
That would suggest he cared. He only cares about him self. Fuck him, watch him burn in hell.
HenryDawg - February 2, 2012
Amen Bro.
Folks may say what they will about the leadership in Cleveland politics at that time not doing their share but regardless of that… MODEL OWED A LOT TO THE FANS IN CLEVELAND. The fans had little to do with what the city did or didn’t do. Model should have been big enough to look past the petty politics and see the real people he should have cared about—the people that filled that cold, crap stadium, waded in pee-filled restrooms, and cheered their hearts out for their Browns. He did not do this. I can forgive a weak man but I cannot and will not honor him. I wish him a good life for that which he has left but I don’t think he should ever be honored in the hall of fame after what he did to Cleveland fans.
Brownsyup - February 2, 2012
i personally hope he slips on a banana peel, steps on a rake so it bops him in the head (and at the same time throws a bucket into the air), steps back into a kiddie pool, falls and comes to a rest. but before its all over, the bucket lands right on his head finishing off one of the most humiliating moments in film history.
pwndabear - February 3, 2012
Any decent business person would have made a killing off having a stadium basically handed to them with two pro franchises using it and all the processions? What did he do with all that money? Obviously not maintenance. What a shuckster.
HenryDawg - February 3, 2012
Quite a resume: Fires Paul Brown one of the Best coaches to have ever lived. Alienates Paul Brown, The 70’s, and Moves the Team…Hall of Fame? NO WAY.
Red-Right-88 - February 3, 2012
Well, lets see. He caused the birth of the Bengals and the Ravens. Enough said, The man is not worthy of the Asshole Hall of Fame! That would make all the other assholes look bad.

Best truth written article. I applaude your straightforwardness and honesty. I agree.

Modell's Legacy
The wretch, concentred all in self,
Living, shall forfeit fair renown,
And, doubly dying, shall go down
To the vile dust, from whence he sprung,
Unwept, unhonored, and unsung.

Modell needs to feel the sucker punch my gut felt the day I heard the news.
first off, at the risk of alienating any non-believers out there, I am a Christian. I firmly believe in my faith. therefore I cannot and will not wish ill health or harm on Modell. but for the record, my fervent wish is that for one second he should feel the loss, the gut-wrenching feeling of having a life-long love ripped out of your very soul!!! should he make the HOF you ask? if he ever makes it, it would be the biggest travesty in sports. but if he does, let him hear about it from the depths of hell, with the agony of his flesh ripping off his rotting corpse!!!

I believe the entire city and all Browns fans everywhere, should make the trip to Art’s grave when that old dreid up piece of crap finally kicks off. I for one will visit, after I’ve eaten a box of stool softener, 2 pounds of green chilis, 4 cans of tuna fish, a gallon of buttermilk, and a scoop of Neapolitan Ice cream ( I need a chaser). Your imagination will fill out the rest of what I will do..
