This is a really interesting article on what may one day be the end of football. I've thought for a while now, if football were to ever end, it would be due to the thought that it's simply too dangerous. Not that I'd agree with it if it were to ever happen, I certainly would not. Still, I found the take compelling and rather depressing to think about, a world without football. Let's hope that it's a very long way off (if ever).
As long as boys have testosterone they will play football. I remember myself 20 years ago. Not someone I would like today. I was cocky and invincible and most likely, a d***.

Pro football might fall one day but the game probably won’t disappear.

This is the way I think also. You look at MLB and wonder what happened to it’s popularity. It was ousted by a more popular sport. The same thing could happen to the NFL one day, but that doesn’t stop kids from wanting to play the game of baseball. Neither will it stop kids from playing football or basketball or soccer. The NFL as an empire isn’t likely to stand forever, but the spirit of the game will last as long as America is a nation.

Have you watched any boxing lately? Boxing used to be the NFL.
HenryDawg - February 10, 2012
The NFL used to be the NFL too.
Brownie's Year - February 10, 2012
College football used to be more popular than the NFL by a large margin
HenryDawg - February 10, 2012
College is where it all started.

What Would the End of Football Look Like?
Dawg Nuts - February 11, 2012
Ray Lewis was right about something after all.

HA! Good call.

If there were no football, I believe soccer would become the new American pastime, especially since the US already has a large and growing percentage of young people playing the game as children.

snooze…
Dawg Nuts - February 14, 2012
I say the same to baseball. Soccer is way better to watch.
rufio - February 15, 2012
Yeah, I also get tired of baseball. I’ve actually watched a few of the English Premier League soccer games on ESPN. They’re okay, but the lack of scoring frustrates me.
Dawg Nuts - February 15, 2012
Its all the leagues that piss me off. Every damn tiny country in Europe has its own league—almost like if every state had a league out here—and then you have multi-nation leagues and the world stage too.
Just put the best players in the world on some teams and leave them there. I would watch so much Soccer if it was World Cup all the time.
rufio - February 15, 2012
The U.S. Women’s team was awesome to watch in the world cup last summer. Those were the only entire soccer game I’ve ever watched and they were incredible. There are two factors: 1. I need to care about the result. 2. Good, close, competitive games.
Jon @ DBN - February 15, 2012
The lack of scoring frustrates me too, but the lack of commercials sure as hell doesn’t. It’s a pleasure to just watch the game unfold and not have that commercial break after the score, break after the extra point, break after the kickoff return, Heinz Red Zone references, all that crap.

I’d think that basketball or baseball would probably slide into the number 1 position, then hockey moves into the top 3.
Adrock2099 - February 14, 2012
Hockey is already more popular than Basketball, it just isn’t as widely publicized because ESPN doesn’t carry any games, so they bury the sport. Seriously, more people attend Hockey games, even though the arenas are smaller.
notthatnoise - February 15, 2012
Interesting. I was not aware of this. Link to the numbers?
Jon @ DBN - February 15, 2012
Not doubting you, but that seems incredibly hard to believe. A couple of years ago the NHL was barely viable and they basically handed NBC the broadcast right for free.
HenryDawg - February 16, 2012
If soccer ever became the #1 professional sport here in the USA, I’d refer you back to the picture Dawg Nuts posted above.

MMA
HenryDawg - February 15, 2012
I prefer traditional boxing. The sweet science.
Dawg Nuts - February 15, 2012
I do too, I’ve never watched MMA, but it seems to be all the rage with the kids these days.
HenryDawg - February 16, 2012
Damn whippersnappers.

What this article tells me is that Colt can’t be relied upon to be our starting QB of the future. He’s had too much of a history with concussions, including high school??? Where was his father when Colt was dealing with his concussion(s) in high school? Oh that’s right, he was only his coach!
Note: I’d bet dollars-to-donuts that he had multiple concussions as a kid, with only one being strong enough to sit him for a couple games.
