Morning Dawg Chow (2/1/12)

Cleveland Browns:

Star-divide

NFL:

  • "Bears say Forte will not hit free agency" (Pro Footall Talk) - Just in case you had your eyes set on Matt Forte in the event that Hillis walked, Bears President and CEO Ted Phillips did his best to shut the book on that possibility. "...We obviously will at least consider placing the franchise tag on him. We don’t have any intention of letting Matt hit the open market." Forte was the one of the few players that would not have bothered me replacing Hillis.
  • "Aaron Rodgers bummed by NFC's effort" (ESPN.com) - Today in rather pointless news Aaron Rodgers states the obvious, "I felt like some of the guys on the NFC side embarrassed themselves." He goes on, but it's not really news to the fans. We know a lot of the players aren't trying. I'm surprised that this is new to Rodgers.
  • "Tom Brady not as great as advertised" (ESPNNewYork.com) - First, remember to consider the source, this did come out of ESPNNewYork.com after all. Rich Cimini attempts to make the case that Tom Brady is overrated. "That's right: Tom Brady, average." Well, I think his attempt is, that's right: below average.
  • Justin Tuck’s Nerves Had Him Throwing Up During The Super Bowl (Deadspin) - I figured that I should throw in at least one bit of Super Bowl related "news." Here, Deadspin transcribes an excellent radio interview between Justin Tuck and Mike Francesa of WFAN in New York. The last part serves as a reminder that NFL players are human too, albeit amusing sometimes. It really is a good interview.

A wild new feature appears! Nice. I can now come here for my morning Browns fix instead of the ESPN AFC North Blog

I’m unclear on what the deal is with teams talking about free agents. How can the Bears’ owner, after the season, be adamant about their intentions to keep Forte, while the Browns’ front office portrays that they have to be evasive when it comes to discussing free agents until a certain date?

Regarding Rodgers’ comments on the Pro Bowl, I chuckled a little bit when one of the user’s made this comment: “Now he knows how Packer fan felt after that playoff effort against the Giants.”

Yeah, I’m not sure. My only guess is that the Bears’ president doesn’t mind giving Forte all that leverage because he wants him just that bad and he might be trying to keep fans content. I’m happy the Browns’ front office isn’t going on the radio and promising that Hillis won’t hit free agency because they’ll go as far to consider a franchise tag.

You are allowed to discuss your own free agents, but not those from other teams. Anything from the Browns not talking about their own as well is an internal policy.

Right, if you start talking about other teams players, it is tampering.

I like this. Creative title too.

Just an unrelated thought on my way out of work to go drinking today. How will it affect our draft with Buffalo & Miami switching back to the base 4-3 defense? Have fun @ work today pwndabear, I’ll drink an extra whiskey sour in your honor.

i’ll be attending a tasting of belgian strong ales, category 17 of the Beer Judge Certification Program, tonight.

If anything, please have a quality local craft beer in my honor. But thanks for thinkin of me babe

I’ve had a couple of Dundee’s beers, which I believe are from your neck of the woods. Not too bad.

eh.

Yeah, not great by any means, but much better than the usual Miller/Bud/Coors/Yuengling that’s on tap most places around where I live.

This entire state went balistic when Yuengling hit the shelves/taps for the first time ever in Ohio. I didn’t understand what the fuss was about.

great for the price. Yeungling found a niche in the market that was sorely missing. In ohio, you have your cheap macrobrews, your average quality, more expensive stuff (Corona, Labatt Blue), and then your GLBC.

There was a niche for a commercialized beer that was moderately priced (1$ a bottle) and still good. Somewhere between cheap garbage and GLBC/Sam Adams.

The only beers I can really think of that were fitting that niche in ohio were Killians and michelob and they don’t have the quality honestly of Yeungling.

I thought that Yeungling stuff was pretty decent. I’d buy it if it was sold out here.

Corona is garbage.

Lucky for me, it is sold down here.

Corona isn’t totally bad, it’s just overpriced imo. Last I remember, a 12 pack was like 13-14 bucks, more than Yeungling. Nowhere near on the same level though.

my favorite (mostly since I am watching my calorie intake) is michelob ultra. really good light beer.

Ultra is actually really good… for a chick beer.

Unfortunately, I have some excess gelatinous baggage…plus my dad (who I drink it with) watches his carb intake quite a bit.

Lion’s Head > Yeungling, I think it’s cheaper too.

never had Lion’s head. Haven’t seen it in stores near where I live.

Lionshead is the best cheap beer I’ve ever drank. The riddles on the under side of the caps are great fun too.

I enjoy the cap puzzles too. The more of em you drink the more fun they get.

I was thinking the exact same thing. Maybe I ought to give the stuff a try.

I would recommend it. It’s usually what I use in my beer pong tourneys.

Neither do me and my father. We think it’s pretty stupid.

Have any of you heard of “Ohio BrewWeek” ? It’s held here in Athens in the summer. Check it out sometime, I’ll meet ya for a pint!

It’s held at Jackie O’s, google it!

i love belgian strong ales.

Love the name, Simms.

Thanks golan

I should have said title, not name. I’m still drunk from last night.
