If you are near a radio or a computer on Thursday, January 5th at 11:00 AM EST, then make sure you are glued to it. Cleveland Browns team president Mike Holmgren and general manager Tom Heckert will be hosting their season-closing press conference, and it is bound to be a bit more exciting that Pat Shurmur's season-closing press conference. I would anticipate a few more details about free agents, the team's draft interests, and other things to be discussed. Maybe Holmgren will give a more concrete timetable as to when an offensive coordinator will be hired as well.
Anyway, you can watch the conference live on ClevelandBrowns.com or listen on WTAM-1100. I'm sure 92.3 The Fan will probably be covering/discussing it as well.

5 inch lifts in his cleats, a scope to scan the field and quicker reaction time is what he needs. All the receivers in the world are not going to change that.
champion64 - January 5, 2012
I would love to get Luck or RG3, but if they don’t take one of those guys it’s because of the player Colt has already shown us he can be. We saw it last year when he had protection, a running game, and Watson and Hillis catching passes. Colt had none of those this year and it showed. I trust H+H’s judgement on this one.

North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
I don’t like the comfort level with McCoy and Wallace going forward as starters. I don’t think either would start anywhere else in the NFL. Why are we satisfied at this position with QBs that are in the bottom half of the league? This cannot be the strategy going forward. Hopefully it is a smoke screen.
Oh and just to intercept this comment… “there is no one around him” I don’t think either McCoy or Seneca would be any better on Green Bay.
Brownsyup - January 5, 2012
two QB’s in the bottom half of the league??? this better not be DA and BQ all over again. i thought we got off that merry-go-round!
findlaybrownslover - January 5, 2012
Nah, our QB situation is the eternal carnival ride from hell. Makes “Something Wicked This Way Comes” look like a picnic.
Off-the-Chain - January 5, 2012
Well, when you keep picking guys up that 32 other teams pass on for 3 rounds, those are not even close to sure things. These are lottery picks that you hope might pan out. Most of the time they will not. You are not serious about getting a QB that can play unless you pick one early in the draft. Look at Cincy, Detroit and many others. If you have a decent QB you can pick one in the 3rd round and hope he pans out… you can always trade him if he looks decent for a couple of games when your starter goes down. But pinning your hopes on a later-round pick when you have nothing and saying that guy and some permanent backup like Wallace are going to compete for the starting position next year hopefully is just blowing smoke.
Brownsyup - January 5, 2012
more than blowing smoke, its a band aid. but i think they(h&h) are ready to have surgery instead of just replacing the band aid all the time.

They are not telling us anything. Basically they are not going to tip there hand. One thing he did say is he is not ready to say Colt is the guy. He did say Greg Little is the guy as far as receivers and complimented the defense, but he is not going to tip his hand, smartly he is saying the right things.
HE DID SAY PAT SHURMUR IS THE COACH AND WILL BE THE COACH FOR THE FORSEABLE FUTURE, and he is saying that in Green Bay it took 5 years, Seattle it took 7 years, and in both cases he said we found the quarterback in year 1 in Green Bay and year 3 in Seattle. He did not follow it up by saying we have our quarterback, I think that is the point.
Basically we are a work in process and the only area that he and Heckert are feeling good about is the defense.

The Licensed Optimist - January 5, 2012

champion64 - January 5, 2012
I’m fine with it. I’d rather have Kahlil or Blackmon anyhow.
The Licensed Optimist - January 5, 2012
I think trading the pick may be in the cards
champion64 - January 5, 2012
I wouldn’t have a problem with it depending on the return. If we got another solid pick or two and only have to move down a few slots to 6-8, where it’s possible someone like Blackmon could still possibly fall to us, I’s be pleased as punch. We should be so lucky to have the Phins and Skins get into a bidding war for our pick over RG3.
ouched - January 5, 2012
Blackmon wont be available when we pick 4. and if he is, we’d be dumb not to take him. I think hes gone at 2 to STL. He could make Bradford look real good.

champion64 - January 5, 2012
I don’t foresee us going after Luck.
The Licensed Optimist - January 5, 2012
Why not?
champion64 - January 5, 2012
I think they at least make an inquiry if only for due diligence. Whether the Colts would part with it for anything less than our next 2 entire drafts remains to be seen.
ouched - January 5, 2012
Our two frist roundn picks and our first rounder next year? Think the Colts would consider it?
champion64 - January 5, 2012
first round picks I meant
champion64 - January 5, 2012
We’re probably the only QB hungry club that can make that offer, and I think they’d hold out for a little more. At least a 2nd from one draft and and 3rd from the other. They’d take us to the woodshed.

emily522 - January 5, 2012
I agree. I don’t think he’s bad either, but he’s not the best choice the Browns could make at this point.
Off-the-Chain - January 5, 2012
No way to Richardson @ #4. We absolutely need a QB or WR with our first pick.
Aussie Brown - January 5, 2012
100 percent agree
champion64 - January 5, 2012
I’ll be happy whomever we draft so long as they aren’t named Richardson or Kalil. That being said, I have faith in Heckert that whomever he actually picks.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
I would be disappointed with Richardson or Kalil, but at the end of the day, both players make us better so it’s not worth crying over if it happened. I don’t see it though.
HenryDawg - January 5, 2012
I definitely would not count out Blackmon if he’s still on the board at 4.
Simmsinns - January 5, 2012
I would love blackmon if he’s on the board at 4. I don’t think RGIII will be on the board at 4. But if he was I think I’d still prefer Blackmon. Not quite sure about it though.
Aussie Brown - January 5, 2012
If no one trades down I think Griffin will be there. In this scenario I don’t think Blackmon will be.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
I think Washington will trade up for RGIII. I’ve said that in another thread.
Aussie Brown - January 5, 2012
I think That Indy picks Luck, the Rams take Kalil, and the Vikes take Blackmon. Those two could be reversed though. Not sure how good/bad the Vikes’ line is though.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
We will hope it will be that way.
Aussie Brown - January 5, 2012

Bernie19Kosar - January 6, 2012
He is not going to say it, but our quarterbacks height is a problem. He danced around it.
champion64 - January 5, 2012
I thought they acknowledged that our QBs would be able to qualify for this year’s dwarf tossing pro bowl, but they don’t think it is absolutely necessary to have a big guy like Ben or Flacco.
tribe71 - January 5, 2012
LOL
champion64 - January 5, 2012
Its really not his height or arm strength as much as his inability to set his feet and deliver the ball. He panics too much and throws from bad positions. A stronger armed QB can do that, he can’t.
HenryDawg - January 5, 2012
He also could stand to gain some arm strength a la Manning.
rufio - January 6, 2012
I like listening to these guys. They need to at least speak to the season ticket holders more during the year if not the full blown media.
tribe71 - January 5, 2012
They’re talking about Hardesty’s injuries, CLEARLY THAT MEANS COLT ISN’T THE GUY!!!!!!!!2
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012

champion64 - January 5, 2012
Stop being annoying. Your schtick is too thick.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
You are right they think Colt McCoy is Drew Brees and Steve Young, I am wrong. For them not to say we are sticking with Colt McCoy who is in year 3 coming up says they are looking to upgrade that position. YOU SHOULD WANT THAT. WE ARE PUTRID AT THE QB postion. Stop jumping on and saying I am saying the same thing over and over. IT IS OUR BIGGEST PROBLEM, not our only problem.
champion64 - January 5, 2012
You ARE saying the same thing over and over.
If you look at my comments, I am steadily behind us drafting Griffin. I’ve never said that Colt is the answer. That being said I trust this FO, and if they decide Colt is the guy, and they draft Blackmon, I won’t be bitching about it.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
I think today though they said (not straight out) that Taller and bigger is preferrable at QB, so do you think they would draft RG3 if we have guys that size already? Is he that physical that they could take another chance on a “smaller” quarterback (I know he is taller than Colt), just asking?
champion64 - January 5, 2012
I don’t think height is the end all be all for quarterbacks.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
No, There are good 6 ft. QBs but it does seem to be a problem for Colt.
Aussie Brown - January 5, 2012
I’m not so sure on that. I haven’t noticed an adverse amount of balls being batted down at the LoS that I’m questioning his height.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
NCF, I’m with you on this. All other things being equal, I’d love a 6’5" QB. However, height isn’t one of Colt’s issues. He has several real concerns, but that one is not one of them.
Legoman0721 - January 5, 2012 via Android app
I do think height is a problem for him. He has to get into passing lanes and when he does he stares down the receivers, HE cannot see the field. I think it is an issue. He did have a lot of batted balls too
champion64 - January 5, 2012
I labeled your comment in the order of the points I’m replying to, hope you don’t mind:
(1) I don’t think it’s really a problem that he can’t see over his linemen, when you are blocking, or setting up to block someone you aren’t standing straight up, or you would get put on your ass. So it’s very easy to say that someone who is 6’1" can see over a 6’5" lineman.
(2) This is a criticism that I agree with, to an extent. I think a lot of it also has to do with our lack of talent at WR as it seems to take forever for them to make any sort of break or get any separation. He’s basically throwing to a middle of the pack #2 and a bunch of #4 or > players if they were on any other team.
(3) I’m not completely sure on this, maybe one of ours stats guys can look it up, but in the games I watched I definitely did NOT see a large amount of balls being batted down at or around the LoS.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
I noticed our guys jumping up when they throw, even when they aren’t avoiding defenders diving at them. Anyone know why they do this?
tribe71 - January 5, 2012
Ever notice also that our receivers seem to be in pairs. The seem to run to the same areas and close together. Believe me I think we need better receivers too. When they sometimes show an overhead shot our receivers are bunched.
champion64 - January 5, 2012
Uh, what?
rufio - January 5, 2012
and taller and bigger being preferrable is common sense really.
bross09 - January 5, 2012
He’s not small goddam it, how many times do you need to be told this?
HenryDawg - January 5, 2012
I could see the colts grabbing Luck, the vikes taking RG3, and the rams taking blackmon, and then the browns going Ot then WR with their first 2 picks, then going for an outside LB and DE, and then adding some more DB depth. If the asking price for flynn is too great theyll stick with colt another year and go after barkley next year.
jonnyphoenix - January 5, 2012
They will also probably draft another QB ‘project’ in the later rounds.
jonnyphoenix - January 5, 2012
I don’t think the Rams will pass on Kalil. Blackmon may end up falling right into our laps.
dirtyjoe - January 5, 2012
I hope so. I just see them wanting blackmon for bradford.
jonnyphoenix - January 5, 2012
I think the chance we take an OT at 4 is slim to none.
Roger Dorn - January 5, 2012
It depends on what happens before…but to be honest I wouldnt have a problem with it if the OT is significantly better than any of the WRs left at his position. I mean, it is absolutely an area they have been weak at for years and years…and it has been a constant pain in the ass…that right side. A stud OT there locked in for 7 years would really help alot, imo.
jonnyphoenix - January 5, 2012
I used to think this way too. But an argument with rufio a couple years ago has me thinking differently about a RT that early in the draft.
Brownie's Year - January 5, 2012
how about with uor second first-rounder?
athensdawg - January 5, 2012
It’s a stretch but still too early. 4th round is ideal. An OL in the first is OK for the like of Joe Thomas. That’s just a special case though.
Brownie's Year - January 5, 2012
i wish barret jones were coming out this year. he can play every position on the line, and he could back-up joe thomas, if joe decided to go fishing or something.
athensdawg - January 5, 2012

Kimble_79 - January 5, 2012

athensdawg - January 5, 2012
Don’t forget that he lets others hold their fish closer to the camera.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
I disagree with this. I think the best teams in the league, the best O, generally have a great OL that is loaded with 1st rounders (3 or more).
-bobby- - January 5, 2012
Name one team that drafted their OL through draft.
Brownie's Year - January 5, 2012
SF for one off the top of my head. I think 2 years ago they draft 2 1st round OL (Iupati and some OT i think)
-bobby- - January 5, 2012
I looked it up bc it was bothering me. Anthony Davis was the 2nd, and they also have 1st rounder Joe Staley. Not a great O, but you can bet Alex Smith is doing better this year from a great OL.
-bobby- - January 5, 2012
They drafted Iupati in the 1st as well. They definitely have invested multiple picks on the line. Jacksonville has a good running game and have drafted line.
Roger Dorn - January 5, 2012
And Jacksonville sucks. The correlation to winning is much stronger between good QB and winning than it is between good line and winning.
rufio - January 6, 2012
no doubt
Roger Dorn - January 6, 2012
NE has 2 1st rounder they drafted (Light and Soldier) and 2 2nd rounders (Vollmer and Mankins).
-bobby- - January 5, 2012
Mankins was a 1.
TheDriveStillHurts - January 5, 2012
Matt Light wasn’t a first rounder.
Bernie19Kosar - January 6, 2012
Sorry flipped Mankins and Light.
-bobby- - January 6, 2012
You got me goin- GB drafted every one of their starting OL, but this time it favors you. 1 1st rounder, 1 2nd, and 2 4th and a 7th.
-bobby- - January 5, 2012
haha keep going. I’m waiting for the good Offense that has three first rounders on their line.
Brownie's Year - January 5, 2012
you can have a lot of first rounders, but still give up a lot of pressure.
bross09 - January 5, 2012
The OT is going to the Rams, and no way does Minnesota draft RG3. I think the Redskins may make an offer to move ahead of us to get RG3
champion64 - January 5, 2012
you really think that Kalil is going to get past the Rams and Vikes?
bross09 - January 5, 2012
The Rams maybe, but I see Vikes going LT if Blackmon is off the board. Either team could take him in my eyes.
rufio - January 5, 2012
Kalil is the best LT prospect since Joe Thomas or Jake Long. There is no way he should get past 3. And the Vikes would be crazy to pass on him if they have a shot at him — if you don’t have a franchise LT, you should be looking for one and Kalil is one. End of story.
TheDriveStillHurts - January 5, 2012
I totally agree. Both teams need a franchise LT and the only reason I don’t know if the Rams do it is because they drafted Jason Smith.
bross09 - January 5, 2012
I don’t remember where I read this but the 3 most important positions are LT, RDE and QB. We have 1.

Off-the-Chain - January 5, 2012
It’s Holmgren’s first year, be gentle.
Simmsinns - January 5, 2012
maybe he meant to imply his first-third year, as the prez.
findlaybrownslover - January 5, 2012
Holmgren left the media with a funny note. What if we draft a defensive player with our #4 pick, would you guys be pissed? Talk amongst ya’selves.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
Better than Richardson. And if it improved our Run D, well…I can’t say I’d be too pissed. Still I think we need way more help on offense this point. But if we aren’t picking a QB and Blackmon is gone, perhaps I’d be alright with this.
Off-the-Chain - January 5, 2012
Draft Claiborne and move Sheldon Brown to Free Safety would be pretty awesome
dirtyjoe - January 5, 2012
I don’t want to go D with the pick, but yeah better than Richardson.
bross09 - January 5, 2012
I loved the Columbo-esque way he walked away, and then came back to the mic. “One more thing…”
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
Not at all. But also, you can’t believe anything they say about the draft from this point on.
rufio - January 5, 2012
I agree they are masking everything
champion64 - January 5, 2012
Except Hillis, they really never say we would like to have him back, notice?
champion64 - January 5, 2012
Same with FA, I don’t believe anything they say at this point.
rufio - January 5, 2012
I want the best available player all the way through the draft. Yeah, offense needs a huge boost, but teams are built around extraordinary players. If we decide to pass over one of those players for somebody we’re simply feeling a need for who isn’t as great then that’s a mistake on our part. We’re not in a position to draft for need just yet.
Brownsbacker488 - January 5, 2012
I think our D is good enough to win a superbowl. That may sound crazy, because it sure seemed we couldnt stop teams at times but I honestly think in the “new” NFL our D is good enough. Just look at the Pats- we definitely have a better D then they have, and they have a great shot to win a SB this year. The league is all about offense- passing offense to be specific. We need to improve that drastically to ever have a shot for a title.
-bobby- - January 5, 2012
lol at Tom. “Tony, was that you that sent the email about trading down?”
Brownie's Year - January 5, 2012
may happen
champion64 - January 5, 2012
Holmgren trending on Twitter.
emily522 - January 5, 2012
Anything on Hillis and D Jackson contracts.
Irish Brown - January 5, 2012
Nope.
Brownie's Year - January 5, 2012
They said they couldn’t say anything about prospective free agent signings. I got the impression their plan is still to build though the draft. Holmgren steered the presser back that way every time Free Agent signing was mentioned.
Aussie Brown - January 5, 2012
I hope we re-sign these guys. I’d be especially disappointed if we lost Jackson.
Off-the-Chain - January 5, 2012
pissed if they dont keep jackson, hillis….. not so much. i like the guys style but i would see it as no big loss.
findlaybrownslover - January 5, 2012
It also is tampering if they say something about specific players, I believe.
rufio - January 5, 2012
I fear Hillis wont be back
champion64 - January 5, 2012
Loved Hillis last year but he did the exact opposite of what you’re supposed to do in a contract year this year (and I’m not even factoring in the injuries). That mentality has got to go.
dawgtribe - January 5, 2012
Where are you getting this concrete information about Hillis’ mentality? Every quote I’ve read from him or his teammates has sounded pretty positive, not like a diva at all.
Legoman0721 - January 6, 2012 via Android app
Info on Hillis’ mentality comes from MKC and Grossi. Nuff said.
JustBob - January 7, 2012
You know, things may be bad for us now, but it sounds like all the crap for NYJ are about to hit the fan.
emily522 - January 5, 2012
It all starts with their asshole coach. They deserve to go through this crap.
Brownie's Year - January 5, 2012
Oh yeah, Ryan definitely fuels that culture.
emily522 - January 5, 2012
This is actually the first time I’ve been in a “yeah we’re bad but I have legitimate hope” attitude.
The Licensed Optimist - January 5, 2012
rufio - January 5, 2012
Emily last night was awful! I thought the would kill WV. Sorry I am sure it was painful
champion64 - January 5, 2012
Yeah I put some rants in that Quinn/Tebow thread (don’t ask me why. I just picked that one.) I thought we’d win too. I’ve never been so embarrassed while watching a game in my life. Ridiculous. I’ve cooled down since, and life goes on.
emily522 - January 5, 2012
Charlie Frye’s last start as a Brown was that way for me.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
A couple of friends of mine went to WVU so I was barracking for them.
Aussie Brown - January 5, 2012
Don’t worry, it’s as meaningless a loss as any other college football game.
Roger Dorn - January 5, 2012
Wait. Apparently we lost to Michigan.
emily522 - January 5, 2012
How bad of a defense does Clemson have to lose 2 games in one night by a combined 140 pts?
ctowndawgpound - January 6, 2012
It was not good at all.
Kimble_79 - January 6, 2012
You know, I don’t want to keep McCoy either but everyone acts like he CAN’T improve and that his height is impossible to overcome.
macdowellm03 - January 5, 2012 via Android app
It is a combination of height, the way he locks on to receivers and his arm strength
champion64 - January 5, 2012
I’m sitting here typing @ 4:36 am
Aussie Brown - January 5, 2012
Lol you people. I’m just waiting for Chris’s article on it. Not wasting time over here. I’m Skyriming.
SpecialBrownie - January 5, 2012
That sounds like something rude, from urbandictionary. LOL.
Aussie Brown - January 5, 2012
SpecialBrownie - January 5, 2012
That’s an American school bus. Anyway I’m not upside down coz my head isn’t hitting the floor.
Aussie Brown - January 5, 2012
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
Ok that is a Victorian car but the driver’s head isn’t bouncing off the roof lining.
Aussie Brown - January 5, 2012
That’s how gravity works in Australia. Keeps you clinging to the ground despite the fact that you’re actually upside-down.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
O Rully? The more you know…..
Aussie Brown - January 5, 2012
good for you.
Brownie's Year - January 5, 2012
so you won’t surface until about 3am tomorrow morning
bross09 - January 5, 2012
What does ’OTA’s stand for?
tribe71 - January 5, 2012
Organized Team Activities.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
Thanks.
I hope they try some of that during the last 2 minutes of each half next season too!
tribe71 - January 5, 2012
Organized Team Activities are actually off-season practices, so I don’t think you’ll cash in on that hope.
rufio - January 5, 2012
Obviously Talking out of their Ass
jonnyphoenix - January 5, 2012
did they mention anything about an OC?
athensdawg - January 5, 2012
Mum is the word on who and Holmgren said they didn’t interview Chilly last year. Said he gave Shurmur the advice of: If the right guy isn’t there, don’t hire anyone." and he took it.
North Coast Flea - January 5, 2012
Good advice.
emily522 - January 5, 2012
well, whoever they get, i hope they have a more vertical offensive philosophy!
athensdawg - January 5, 2012
It looks like every Mock draft has us picking RG3. A couple have us selecting Richardson
champion64 - January 5, 2012
is richardson worthy of a top 5 pick? i haven’t seen him play.
athensdawg - January 5, 2012
I really dont know. It seems to me you dont have to use this high of a pick on a RB, but I coudl be wrong
champion64 - January 5, 2012
yeah, i don’t like that idea either, unless he’s gonna be the next jim brown.
athensdawg - January 5, 2012
I don’t think he is worthy or the next Jim Brown. I’d pass
Kimble_79 - January 5, 2012
We have a lot to consider
champion64 - January 5, 2012
should be a fun draft! ugh…
athensdawg - January 5, 2012
I wouldn’t give up the draft for Luck either. I’d take a QB with our late 1st rounder or our 2nd rounder. First pick to me should be an explosive playmaker…Blackmon would be perfect.
Kimble_79 - January 5, 2012
i agree with this, if he is still there. who are your qb candidates?
athensdawg - January 5, 2012
Not sure, not a fan of RG3 at all. Great college player, but I just don’t see him turning out in the NFL. I would say Landry Jones, who has the ideal size for QB being 6-4 and 215lb, but I’m not sure why he struggled so much late in the season. Yeah he lost his go to receiver, but just didn’t seem like the same guy as earlier. I’m very “on the fence” with Nick Foles. Case Keenum intrigues me a lot. Houston passes the crap out of the ball, but 45TDs to 5Ints is pretty damn good.
Kimble_79 - January 5, 2012
Top 10 QB’s per CBSSports.com with associated overall draft ranking. Keenum falls in at #11 in QB rank and #216 overall.
1 Andrew Luck
3 Robert Griffin III
22 *Landry Jones
24 Ryan Tannehill
49 *Nick Foles
63 Kirk Cousins
81 Ryan Lindley
106 Brandon Weeden
160 Russell Wilson
174 Chandler Harnish
Kimble_79 - January 5, 2012
foles has all the measurables and good numbers, but i haven’t seen him play. for some reason i haven’t watched much college football this year.
what about acquiring matt flynn from greenbay?
athensdawg - January 5, 2012
that ryan lindley sounds intriguing!
athensdawg - January 5, 2012
…rated 78th in the nation, regardless of position…
athensdawg - January 5, 2012
… Has one career 500-yard passing game, three 400-yard efforts and 12 for 300 or more yards…
Lindy’s tabbed him as the 2011 preseason MWC Offensive Player of the Year and as having the “strongest arm” in the MWC for the second consecutive season … Rated the sixth-best quarterback nationally by Lindy’s …
athensdawg - January 5, 2012
A lot of people are high on Tannehill…probably too high. He could be Gabbert 2.0 with less experience.
bross09 - January 5, 2012
I agree on Keenum. Living down here in Houston, I’ve watched him a bit, and he gets rid of the ball crazy fast and accurate. I can see him hitting Norwood on quick slants all day.
Gabe Durrant - January 5, 2012
If anyone thinks Colt McCoy is small…
rufio - January 5, 2012
or Tomlinson or Peterson. He is not. At best, he is the next Jamaal Lewis, who was good for about 4 years and then dropped off the map. Then again, he is just as likely to be the next Ronnie Brown or Cedric Benson
bross09 - January 5, 2012
The kid is good. But not worthy at #4.
Brownie's Year - January 5, 2012
I think he’s a good average RB. Not a game-changer like a CJ or AP, so definitely not worthy of a top 10 IMO. I would place him as a slightly worst Wells(talent wise)
The Licensed Pessimist - January 5, 2012
Slightly worse than Beanie Wells? I, an OSU homer, find this to be undervaluing RIchardson.
rufio - January 5, 2012
I have to agree with him
SpecialBrownie - January 5, 2012
Yes in that he is a talented player, no in that even the bet running backs are not worth it. Joe Thomas over AP every time.
rufio - January 5, 2012
nope. Sure, he’ll be a good back but imo, most backs are not worth a top 5 pick when taken there. I can only think of two in the last decade that I would say were worth the pick (and I actually thought they would be worth it at the time), LT and Peterson.
Richardson is like mcfadden who wasn’t truly physically dominant but very good, but also on a good team. Could end up the same way, minus the injuries (Richardson doesn’t seem to have major injury concerns).
bross09 - January 5, 2012
RG3 Weaknesses
Plays in a spread system that is not NFL caliber…relies on short passes or deep balls to pick up the majority of his yards…mostly utilizes throws along or near the sidelines to complete passes, does not working the middle of the field…need to see him display the same touch he has on his deep ball on throws into the intermediate zone…limited experience dropping back from center…does not climb the pocket as consistently as you’d like…needs to continue to learn that he doesn’t always need to take off…must continue to develop his ability to read progressions…MUST DO A BETTER JOB OF PROTECTING HIMSELF FROM BIG HITS IN THE OPEN FIELD (the real concern if there is one)
That is all I have been saying. I think he is great, just makes me nervous with his ability to run
champion64 - January 5, 2012
if he can stay in the pocket and pick defenses apart, great, but i also like his ability to pick up some yards on the ground (but not like vick)
athensdawg - January 5, 2012
This is correct. That is literally the only thing you’ve been saying. For like a month now.
Adrock2099 - January 5, 2012
…?
rufio - January 5, 2012
Well he just totally ignores the middle pass…
Bernie19Kosar - January 6, 2012
Also, sideline throws considered more difficult than throws over the middle, so that would be a positive for RG3.
rufio - January 5, 2012
That is a NFL Scouting Report not my words
champion64 - January 5, 2012
Link?
Bernie19Kosar - January 6, 2012
I need a trasnscript of this press conference. I don’t have access to a computer around here that will give me good quality video. I’m sure it will be boring and dry, and not much information will be shared, but I’m curious nonetheless.
Brownsbacker488 - January 5, 2012
The official site usually released the transcript at night, which I’m waiting for too. Will arrange it when it happens!
Chris Pokorny - January 5, 2012
Holmgren was rattled IMO. I think he thought Colt would be better and we would have a general run of the mill offense considering the lack of “playmakers”. That is what good QB’s do. Then a 7-9 season and “progress”.
I have no clue what the fat man will do now. He could start getting a little crazy.
Johnnypronto - January 5, 2012
If he’s that dissappointed in Colt and needs a QB, he knows exactly what to do.
rufio - January 5, 2012
Holmgren gets it. He gets the passion the fan base has and the tradition and expectations, and I believe in what they’re doing. It’s easy for all of us (the educated social media fan base) and the real media (the dummies) to “bark” about what’s wrong, but H&H will get it done.
After all, we’re still #3 in all-time playoff appearances…and have two more titles that yellow towel nation.
Kosar19 - January 5, 2012
I believe they call it a piss rag.
HenryDawg - January 5, 2012
Just released….Landry Jones is staying another year at Oklahoma.
dirtyjoe - January 5, 2012
Smart move for him.
rufio - January 5, 2012
Agreed. Best thing for Landry is to get the sour taste out of his mouth from this year.
