Former Cleveland Browns head coach Butch Davis could be back in the NFL next season. Davis was the team's head coach from 2001-2004. After a hiatus that lasted a couple of seasons, Davis became the head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels from 2007-2010. He was out of football again last year, but Peter King of Sports Illustrated is reporting that Davis is a candidate to be on Greg Schiano's staff in Tampa Bay:
Greg Schiano wants Butch Davis on his staff. Not sure whether Davis would be defensive coordinator or an assistant head coach, but Schiano's interested in adding him to the staff at Tampa Bay. Schiano was Davis' defensive coordinator at the University of Miami in 1999 and 2000, and they have remained close. Davis hasn't coached in the NFL since he was dismissed by the Browns after the 2004 season. He'd be a good sounding board for Schiano.
The majority of fans over at Bucs Nation, our Tampa Bay Buccaneers affiliate, would be in support of the decision.

Good for Butch. I don’t like the way he left here (of the U for that matter), but the guy is a good coach.

He’s still my favorite coach since the return, even if that’s not saying much. The playoff season certainly helped shape that mindset.

If I am reading things right, Davis has the best W/L record of all the Browns v2.0 head coaches. I know, strongest of the weak.
I didn’t like his draft choices, said so in real time. I never got a sense that he had a particular kind of team in mind and was trying to build it.
