I don't know if there is any hire that Cleveland Browns fans could have been disappointed with for the offensive coordinator position. With Brad Childress as the newest member of the staff, you bring a lot of experience to the table.

Let's not worry about how often he has/hasn't called plays in the past: he has had stints on two very successful teams, the Eagles and the Vikings. His time spent in Philadelphia should ensure that there is a high level of chemistry between he and current head coach Pat Shurmur. I'm sure that's the reason Tom Clements, the current quarterbacks coach for the Green Bay Packers, will probably stay with the Packers to be their offensive coordinator (Will Burge of ESPN Cleveland reported that Clements and Mike Sherman turned down the gig with Cleveland).

Mary Kay Cabot of the Plain Dealer interviewed Eagles head coach Andy Reid regarding the combination of Childress and Shurmur working together, and he thinks it'll be a great fit:

"Pat's a heck of a play-caller, and Brad's a heck of a play-caller, and I think that's a heck of a combination," Reid told The Plain Dealer. "Both of them can bounce things off of each other. That's what Brad did here with me, and that's what Pat did here with me. So, whether I was calling the plays or they were calling the plays, we had an open communication where we could talk and make the best of whatever situation there was."

Reid also talked about how both men worked with Donovan McNabb to make him a better quarterback. He mentioned the four-year rule for a quarterback to mature, which would apply to Colt McCoy since he'll only entering his third season if he stays with the club:

"Both of them understand it takes four years for a quarterback to fully mature or get close to full maturing in the NFL," said Reid. "It's not a bang-bang thing that happens overnight. They understand how to go through that process and how to teach quarterbacks and when to be a little tough on them and when you need to back off. They both have a great feel for that."

Either way, I look forward to hearing Childress' riveting press conferences during the regular season.
