After suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon during training camp, Cleveland Browns punter Reggie Hodges says he is ahead of schedule in his rehab assignment. Per Fred Greetham of Fox Sports Ohio, Hodges has been jogging and hopes to be ready for the team's offseason program that begins April 16th.
"I'm right on schedule," Hodges said. "There's no soreness." In a tweet by the Akron Beacon Journal, they say that Hodges has also been punting already as part of his rehab:
Reggie Hodges said he's been punting as part of his rehab from a torn Achilles. Expects to be ready to play in Week 1 next season.
Hodges was initially replaced by the shaky Richmond McGee, but he suffered a season-ending injury in Week 1. McGee was then replaced by veteran punter Brad Maynard, who was a savior of sorts at the position for the remainder of the season. The Browns could still give Maynard another look next season in case Hodges ends up being not as effective on punts as he was pre-injury. If Hodges is fine though, there's no reason not to make him the guy -- he is younger and has better depth and hang time on his punts.

Championship.

I’m just hoping we can avoid the dreaded punter controversy this off-season.

no question, hodges is the man for that job.

Me and Hillis are still crying over Vickers’ departure. Think of what could have been if we had a good blocking fullback this season.

I think I may have seen Marecic get in the way more often than I saw him open a hole. At least he can catch.
HenryDawg - January 3, 2012
Yeah, because we totally took advantage of that in our play calling throughout the year.

I am thinking Hillis was more concerned with being injured than the fullback.
Roger Dorn - January 3, 2012
A fullback as good as Vickers could have possibly prevented some of those issues.
Brownsbacker488 - January 4, 2012
I don’t know how this is possible, but sure.

Marecic did fine.

He was a rookie. I also thought he did good.

Long snapper by far, is the greatest need.
lightninmcqueen - January 2, 2012 via mobile
great news. hodges is good for a 60 yard sneak once in a while.
dawgtribe - January 3, 2012

BREAKING NEWS: Browns just signed Jay Garrick (a.k.a. The Flash) as their 2012 kicker/ punter/ holder/ longsnapper/ right tackle/ free safety/ offensive coordinator. Browns’ Phil Dawson apparently unhappy considering he has been this team’s Superman since 1999.
Varnisc - January 3, 2012
at least he had superpowers. not like that fake superhero batman.
pwndabear - January 3, 2012
Joe Thomas laughed in his face and The Flash ran home to hide.

You forgot that Hodges also has a better YPC.
Doc's Kid - January 3, 2012
Hurrah for Hodges, glad to hear he’s healing well.
