Cleveland Browns left tackle and all-around beast Joe Thomas was on The Really Big Show this morning on 850 WKNR. A transcript of the interview has been posted here; I've included some highlights about quarterback Colt McCoy after the jump.

How impressed he was with the offense in the first preseason game:
"I was impressed myself. You can’t read too much into it because it’s preseason and there’s pretty minimal game planning, but the sharpness and the tempo with which the offense worked, the way Colt was as efficient as he was making all the right reads, the way we kinda just moved the ball up and down the field, it was good. I’m impressed with the way we’ve grown in only two weeks and a lot of that credit needs to go to the coaching staff, but I think the players kinda stepped up to that challenge because we did miss all the offseason."
Whether or not Colt McCoy is the quarterback that can take the Browns where they want to go:
"Well there’s no doubt in my mind that he’s the guy that can do it. He’s very impressive in the huddle, he’s very impressive in the meeting room, his leadership, he was a born winner and that’s all he knows. He’s the type of guy he’s coming in here to win day one. That’s what we need. He’s not looking down the line a couple of years he’s saying ‘let’s do it this year.’ All he knows is wins and that’s what he demands in his teammates. That’s just talking about intangibles, but on the field he is just as incredible."

If Joe Thomas says Colt McCoy is the QB of the future. Then Coly McCoy is the QB of the future.

I agree. With this comment.
pwndabear - August 18, 2011
So what are we going to do with Colt?
And if Jt declares Colt the Qb of the future and we instead decide to go with this Coly character are we all in danger of pancakes?
Villeslgr - August 18, 2011
If Joe Thomas says Colt McCoy is changing his first name to Coly, then Colt McCoy is changing his first name to Coly.
burntorangeandbrown - August 18, 2011
No. If Joe Thomas says Colt McCoy is changing his first name to Coly, then we’ll all wake up in a parallel universe where McCoy’s first name has always been Coly.
scrumm - August 19, 2011
I think you might be the first to notice that.
Coly McCoy it is and so it shall be!

It’s better than “McNugget”.

Thank you for bringing that up again. I’d almost forgotten how absurd it was.

We’ll have a new saying to use in game threads:
Coly McCoy Batman, he threw that one on a frozen rope!

I was actually messing with the fact that you had 10+ recs and no one had commented on Coly. Usually stuff like that doesn’t go too long without becoming a meme.
Villeslgr - August 18, 2011
It’s definitely one now.
Simmsinns - August 18, 2011
Nice. We might 100% definitely need a photoshop. Maybe SB’s favorite Colt picture with a Cowboy hat on or something.
Villeslgr - August 19, 2011
Damn, I was about to get to work on it, when I realized that particular photo would be incredibly hard to shoop a cowboy hat onto without it looking extremely shoddy.

And He said, “Let there be Colt McCoy,” and there was Colt McCoy. He saw that the Colt McCoy was good, and he separated the Colt McCoy from the darkness. He called the Colt McCoy "Quarterback," and the darkness He called "sacks." And there was winning, and there was no more mourning—the first Colt McCoy.

scrumm - August 18, 2011
Joe Thomas does not serve pancakes, he makes them.
pwndabear - August 18, 2011
I could have sworn he was on yesterday’s show. I listened to all 4 hours the past two days, I’m certain it was yesterday.
Simmsinns - August 18, 2011
That is your first mistake. You are assuming that Joe Thomas exists within the bounds of our understanding of space and time. However, Joe Thomas is everywhere and in every time all at once. If Joe Thomas wants to be on a morning show on two different days to have the exact same discussion, his will be done.
Off-the-Chain - August 18, 2011
Probably was then, the recapped article was posted today, so I assumed it was from today’s show.
Chris Pokorny - August 18, 2011
Ah ha! I was right:
Notice it was posted 8:45am, but the show doesn’t come on till 9am. He therefore had to be posted a previous day’s interview. I feel like Sherlock Holmes.
Simmsinns - August 18, 2011
Yeppers. SB Nation sends us a daily log of interviews that were posted relevant to our players; I should’ve checked the time more closely.
Chris Pokorny - August 18, 2011
I’m from ND so I only listen to Rizz when his podcast comes up (usually 1-3 interviews per day). I was wondering, do you Ohioan’s like that guy? It takes him 3 minutes to just say goodbye to someone and he tries to invite the person to hang out with him. He is terrible. I’m sure you already know this, though.
I literally cringe at some point during every interview he does.
johnf34 - August 18, 2011
He’s definitely overly friendly with
intervieweeseveryone. But the show is very entertaining Cleveland sports talk.I don’t know that I’d say I like Rizzo, so much so that I’m more just used to him, to the point that if he wasn’t on the show I’d be disappointed. The regular listeners sort of know what they are signing up for when they tune in each morning, so to speak.
He’s also not exactly an excellent analyst, but doesn’t pretend to be. He’s just sort of like a regular die-hard Cleveland homer. That’s where Ned and Hammer come in. One is the pessimist fan and the other is just there to play devils advocate to everything.
Simmsinns - August 18, 2011
Rocland and B19K are together on a radio show now?
North Coast Flea - August 18, 2011
It all makes sense now.
Simmsinns - August 18, 2011
thanks, i enjoy listening to the interviews he gets. as much as i’m not a huge fan i still like listening to him as it’s hard to not like cleveland sports talk
johnf34 - August 18, 2011
Yeah, our teams really make it easy for the sports radio guys to find interesting things to talk about.
Simmsinns - August 18, 2011
I haven’t listened to Rizzo in years, but the way you describe it sounds dreadful.
Chemo - August 19, 2011
It depends. Worlds apart from the football discussion here. But is entertaining radio. Rather listen to sports talk than that unimportant crap on the other talk radio stations.
Simmsinns - August 19, 2011
Rizz is fine, but the young guys trying to make a name from themselves are not. I have found that once you have your place established in talk radio, you become about 1,000 times more rational. Its always the “young guns” or the “fast risers” who make waves and say ridiculous things
bross09 - August 20, 2011
Like saying Ohio State’s infractions were worse than Miami’s infractions. That was just showing clear bias (Both Ned and Hammer hate OSU).
Simmsinns - August 20, 2011
oh yeah. I didn’t hear that but I wouldn’t doubt that they would say that. Ned is the devil’s advocate so he obviously plays the stupid side and isn’t Hammer a michigan fan (or are they reversed there)?
bross09 - August 20, 2011
Ned (Chris Fedor) is a hardcore pessimistic Cleveland fan, like Rocland on steroids and downers.
Hammer (Aaron Goldhammer) is the devil’s advocate, generally disagreeing with anything and everything. He’s also from Denver.
Simmsinns - August 21, 2011
Apologies for being super off topic, but does anyone have any advice for catching tomorrows game in Columbus. WOW cable is showing the Packers play the Colts !?!? Which bars always show the browns games? Any recommendations sincerely appreciated.
Underdawg - August 18, 2011
Well, I don’t know about live, or in Columbus, but NFLNet is playing it at 10AM on Sunday (After they’ve shown the Steelers game twice, ugh).
North Coast Flea - August 18, 2011
Yeah, I was pissed when I saw that the game won’t be shown till 7am Sunday. Hope there is a live stream tomorrow. I can’t watch games after knowing the final score.
Brownie's Year - August 18, 2011
I can for the preseason. The stats alone don’t properly illustrate how well or poorly our backups did. I watch preseason games more to study depth than for an entertainment purpose.
North Coast Flea - August 18, 2011
It’s on Channel 10 like all the other preseason games (I should say WBNS, it may not be 10 on WOW)
HenryDawg - August 18, 2011
The game IS channel 10 for WOW. I checked TV guide at work out out of frustration, and I saw that the listing was changed to Browns vs Lions. Kind of pisses me off that they got me so scared yesterday. I was dreading going to BWs and spending way too much for cheap beer there. I will have to check out the Winking Lizard though!
Underdawg - August 19, 2011
I wish Sunday Ticket included the preseason games. It ought to be the same as having season tickets. Guess I’ll have to hope for a web stream.
JustBob - August 19, 2011
As HD said, the Browns game should be on channel 10. I live in C-bus and I’m getting the game; I have Dish Network instead of WOW but I don’t know why that would make a difference.
For future reference, though, there are many Browns Backers bars throughout the city (although I’m sure any sports bar will have the game on). I usually go to the Buckeye Browns Backers at Winking Lizard on Bethel Rd. but I know there are others all over C-bus. If you find the Browns Backers website it will give you a list of their gathering places all over the world.
Buckeye Brad - August 18, 2011
Slightly OT, but I find it awesome that a hundred or so chain restaurants have gone out of business at that location but some place called the Winking Lizard opens up there and seems to be packed every night by every conceivable type of person from my mom’s tennis club to assorted degenerate restaurant workers and they all seem to love the place.
On topic if WOW isn’t carrying the game I would fire WOW tomorrow.
HenryDawg - August 18, 2011

The Winking Lizard is fantastic. They have good food and beer specials every night. My wife and I play in a Euchre league at the Bethel Rd. location which is a lot of fun. It’s been a Winking Lizard for as long as I’ve lived in C-bus so I don’t know what was there before it.

I’ll hop on the bandwagon and mention that the Wink in Coventry is very popular among us college folk.
