That’s bullshit! He had one bad snap!

No no no, there have been multiple bad FG snaps this year—its just only two resulted in game losing (kinda, sorta) affairs.

I don’t recall Maynard moving much to get any of the snaps.

He seemed fine on punts, no arguing that. But FG attempts were becoming more and more of an adventure each week.

I still don’t recall Maynard moving much to get any of the snaps.

I wouldnt lie to you, mang!

Maynard is also the holder on field goals.

Yes he’s had a bunch of them. There was a snap on a PAT that Dawson had to stop completely then sort of punch it through. Even in yesterday’s game there were a couple of high snaps. Dieken made a point last night that once your snapper gets in a bad rut its tough to get them out.

MFW this is the fault of the front office canning Brad Seely and not Pontbriand.

Seely left on his own.

as a direct result of the actions of the FO

Because they let Mangini go. Seely made his own choice.

that’s my point

The only way Seely was going to stay is if Mangini was.

That was never going to happen, so I don’t understand the constant hand wringing over a ST coach.

considering the ST went from the best unit on the team to the worst unit on the team (and not b/c the offense and defense suddenly became all-world) in a single offseason, i can see why people would be frustrated.

Yea, it’s a fair gripe. Special teams has lost us games this year.

two bad snaps, literally in the last moment, yeah, not surprised.

Sure but are you going to keep Mangini just for the sake of keeping Seely?

Right, I understand the frustration, but it wasn’t like the Browns kicked Seely out, the guy left on his own.

Nope, but it sucks to lose him. Wonder why an awesome special teams would be so heart set on staying with Mangini.

Ryan was the same way. For as much as people call Mangini an asshole, a lot of people seem loyal to him.

Because our ST are garbage and have arguably lost atleast two games this year.

Probably closer to 3

Factory of Sadness

I was considering buying a F of S T-shirt but my heart is a F of S on Sundays and most of Mondays so why bother? Cribbs is right. This sh— is getting old. Where is Mooncamping again?

Where is Mooncamping again?

Enjoying the Detroit collapse, I’m sure.

This is a terrible decision. He’s had a rough couple of games, but his track record precedes him here. To me, this is more of the arrogant policy of Shurmur/FO that special teams are easily replaceable (from letting Sealy go, leaving Phil dangling before the season, etc.).

Long snappers are easily replaceable.

I agree. This doesn’t really mean much but I question the necessity.

Was mad with the guy, but he certainly didn’t deserve to be waived. Wonder if there’s more.

how many 4-7 teams are waiving pro bowlers, regardless of what position they play?

perennial pro bowlers at that. shurmer’s WCO is waived, fan decision

2 Pro Bowls in 7 years is hardly “perennial”.

i had my stats mixed up…i read 7 times in 2 years. my bad.

There has to be more to this than meets the eye. I’ll wait until they say more before making judgment.

It was a coaches’ decision.

That’s all we’ll get from Shurmur.

Yep.

Although, I’ll tell you, he looked pretty weird on the sideline after the bad snaps. Eyes closed and just kind of out of it.

You would be out of it too if you bowled a snap to the holder!!

that ultimately lost the game.

Because 55 yard field goals are automatic.

I heard we just signed Larry Federoff

Maybe he could act as a jugs machine for the receivers too

Christian Yount is our man now. Played for the Bucs for 8 games

instant upgrade!

/facepalm

More bad news: Fujita and Emmanuel Stephens were placed on IR today.

Last year, our D really struggled without Fuji. This one sucks.

Want to see Miava get some more PT

bad knee, which is awesome. not sure if he’ll miss any time, but suffice it to say he won’t be at his most effective.

So you go from the best LS in the NFL to the worst over 2 bad snaps

and really it was just one bad snap. mack kicking the ball in the stl game … i mean, who do you blame for that? not pontbriand, right? at least not 100%.

Its actually several over the course of the season and it seemed to be getting worse. You can’t lose games because of your LS. I am sad, but its probably time to move on.

He had one bad snap that I’m aware of, and it happened Sunday.

I get why they released Pontbriand but I don’t have that strong of feelings. On one hand, he was a good player for the Browns and he would have been nice to keep. On the other, he was doing very poorly at times this year and his value is very replaceable.

I am not going to get worked up over this, Pontbriand’s contribution was so minimal, though I appreciate the service he has given to the Browns organization.

thank you, these were the words i was looking for. and i believe he is the best payed true ST player in the league.

He is a longsnapper. END TRANSMISSION.

This just reeks of someone trying to displace blame.

We have this mess of a team and have a mess of a collapse and it’s the LS that gets waived on Tuesday? Give me a break. I’m all for accountability but it seems those that need to be held accountable aren’t and instead we’re busy cutting off warts from fingers when one side of the whole damn head is missing from a shotgun blast.

Well we’re not going to waive a rookie second round draft pick or McCoy and we’re not firing Shurmur. If you’re the long snapper its pretty clear what your job is. Deliver the ball to the holder quickly every single time. He has had some bad ones all year, he had some high ones that Maynard handled well but I don’t think it was going to get better. They needed to move on.

This is total revisionist history. I don’t know how many other games you watch, but nobody snaps the ball perfectly every time. I don’t remember seeing Maynard jumping after any balls.

Well we’re not going to waive a rookie second round draft pick or McCoy and we’re not firing Shurmur. If you’re the long snapper its pretty clear what your job is.

I’m not asking for them to be waived. I’m saying hold them accountable. Don’t give me this it’s my understanding we battled chit. It’s my understanding Little dropped balls all over the damn field, Colt has been beyond mediocre (not specifically in the last game but over the entire year), and the Head Coach, well he’s the Head Coach.

Awesome, they needed to move on. Do we move on from the weak spots in our line but not signing any potential replacements in free agency this year? It was the worst kept secret that our O-line needed serious help as well as our WR unit. Nothing there, but a bad snap and you’re axed.

Hell, I don’t even care that Ponti was released, it’s not like he’s a superman FB. But hell, I want to see that same line of accountability drawn throughout the organization.

I’d be fine for benching Little for a little bit and giving him less reps next week as a message,

How about the benching of little until he doesn’t suck.

You think a message is what he needs?

I don’t really know if I’m wanting a benching. But hell Little has been doing this since the pre-season. Someone needs to let him know it’s not acceptable. And I’m not going to lie, when he dropped on of his last passes towards the end of the game and the camera zoomed in and you could see his face, I actually felt kind of sorry for him. It looked like he was really feeling bad out there.

Maybe the dude just can’t catch. He might be putting in all of the work but he just doesn’t have the skills needed to catch the ball well.

I don’t know, but considering he plays WR on a football team something needs to be done about his drops. I remember the hell Braylon got for his drops and I don’t think he was ever as bad as Little.

I feel bad for him too. He knows he screwed up, but in some way a message to him wouldn’t hurt.

In a way, maybe isn’t the cutting of Pontbriand possibly sending a message not only to him, but to everyone? Its showing that players WILL be held accountable for their play on the field.

I already addressed that. You don’t send a message to a crappy team by cutting the long snapper and then not hold players accountable for their play on the field.

Collapse? What collapse? We all knew we weren’t going anywhere this season.

Damn, if the licesenced optimist knew we weren’t going anywhere this season, we are all hopeless.

I’m talking about the collapse in the game on Sunday. It’s my opinion that we did not lose that game because of a bad snap. Nor did we lost the Rams game because of a bad snap.

i think champ64 has a single theory that would cover the reasons that we lost both of those games…

OT: OSU basketball is the real deal. We crushed Duke’s face tonight. They’re a good team, but we’re worlds better.

This team looks better than the team with Oden/Conley/etc…

This team is so much better offensively. that team didn’t have a scorer like Buford and Sully is better than Oden offensively.

Sully is better than Oden offensively.

He also has youth on his side.

it’s early yet, but my concern with this osu team versus the oden/conley squad is depth.

yeah. Those guys didn’t become solid depth right away so there is a chance guys like Ravenel can become solid depth.
