The Cleveland Browns announced six of eight players who will be on the practice squad, per a tweet by the OBR. Currently, the players reported to be on the practice squad are:
What happened to DE Clifton Geathers? Well, reports indicate that the Miami Dolphins claimed him off waivers, meaning he will be on their 53-man roster. Another thing to note is that the Browns did not put Coye Francies on the practice squad. While it's not a "crushing loss" or anything of that nature, I still wanted the team to give him a shot.
With two spots open on the practice squad, they will either sign someone from a different team who was waived, or they might be reserving a spot for another player they will waive (i.e. maybe a Titus Brown). Project player Joel Reinders is not on the practice squad.

You can definitely say goodbye to Brandon McDonald for good now, since he signed with the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals are doing their best job to assemble a roster full of former Browns. Their roster includes:

Bit surprised Danso’s not on this list, but I guess he really didn’t have anything to offer other than size. He never played much at ECU either.
Michael Jay - September 5, 2010
Danso is on IR.
Bumblyjack - September 5, 2010
Can this get confirmed? I just read that he was waived when he got hurt. Never saw a follow up.
Michael Jay - September 5, 2010
Yeah, sorry, I forgot about the waived/injured thing. He is listed on the team’s injured reserve on the official site, so I removed my note mentioning him and the practice squad:

Thanks, Chris.
Michael Jay - September 5, 2010
Use this thread to mention other interesting cuts/pickups.
-The Lions just released former Browns receiver Dennis Northcutt.
-The Bengals claimed QB Dan LeFevour off waivers.
-The Seahawks let go of S Jordan Babineaux and RB Julius Jones.
Chris Pokorny - September 5, 2010
i’ve always been a fan of Leon Washington, at least fantasy football-wise.
i would guess this helps his chances? leaves him and Forsett at RB.
discoinferno083 - September 5, 2010
side note: what the eff is Pete Carroll doing?
discoinferno083 - September 5, 2010
He is having a tough time with a salary cap.
Bernie19Kosar - September 5, 2010
In an uncapped year?
TheDriveStillHurts - September 6, 2010
I was implying that USC had no salary cap.
Bernie19Kosar - September 6, 2010
I think he’s saying neither does Seattle.
Villeslgr - September 6, 2010
gutting a roster that had old players everywhere and starting fresh.
Or REBUILDING if you will.
Justin Kowalczyk - September 6, 2010
Dude, I drafted Jones!
DAMNIT.
SpecialBrownie - September 6, 2010
There was an interesting story earlier today about the Raiders coaching staff getting overruled by Al Davis and being forced to keep DB Mike Mitchell, whom they didn’t want, while cutting a kid named Stevie Brown they DID want. In the end, Brown cleared waivers and hit their practice squad.
Small story, but the Raiders continue to entertain even after JaMarcus Russell’s departure.
Michael Jay - September 5, 2010
as long as Al is the boss they will continue to entertain, and continue to not win a whole lot.
notthatnoise - September 5, 2010
sad. Oakland deserves better. I consider their D a serious sleeper this year.
discoinferno083 - September 5, 2010
All the power to him. He signs the checks, he makes the calls he wants. A lil sad, as he once was a maverick and when he intervened he was a real driver to their success. Now, not so much. Still, if you got the money, and only a few years at most, go for it Al. Life is to short to worry about the consequences.
realmccoy - September 6, 2010
his biggest problem has been his inability to adjust to the changes in the NFL. The game passed him by and he refuses to get up to speed.
Justin Kowalczyk - September 6, 2010
I disagree. Whatever legacy Al might have had is going to be pissed on and tainted. When he passes, everyone will shrug.
It would be much more noble for him to relaize where he’s at and pass the reins off.
He’s disgracing the franchise and the fans.
discoinferno083 - September 6, 2010
Apparently he’s not too concerned about his legacy then. In the last twenty years he’s only run off a great running back (Marcus Allen) who put up career numbers the year after he left the Raiders, a damn good coach who returned the Raiders to prominence after ten years out of the playoffs (Jon Gruden) and beat the piss out of the Raiders in the Super Bowl the year after he was sent packing, made several ridiculous draft picks, the latest examples being JaMarcus Russell (whom head coach Lane Kiffin didn’t way and was later fired over), and Darrius Heyward-Bey (whom Tom Cable openly admitted he didn’t want and later benched).
He’s a senile control freak and the Raiders won’t return to prominence until he’s gone (retired or otherwise).
Michael Jay - September 6, 2010
He may very well be senile. And if he keeps the Raiders down, that helps alot. That is one team that occassionally picks in front of us, so if they blow their picks all the better. Plus, for me he is theraputic. For example, pissed about trade up for BQ, I say, could have been worse, we could have JaMarcus Russel. Robo had a down year, and I say hey – at least he is not Heyward Bey. You should try it some time – works great.
realmccoy - September 6, 2010
What’s with DBN’s affliction for Francies?
The Licensed Pessimist - September 5, 2010
Running low on ice in the corp office?
realmccoy - September 6, 2010
Browns have signed WR Jordan Norwood and RB Andre Anderson to the final two spots on the practice squad.
theW0LF - September 6, 2010
I’m surprised we didn’t hold on to Norwood last year. Had a cup of tea with the Eagles, but after Jeremy Maclin blossomed and they resigned Hank Baskett, Norwood seemed a victim of the numbers game.
Michael Jay - September 6, 2010
Love the Norwood signing. That being said, I’m a huge PSU fan. Regardless, Norwood may be a bit undersized, but he has a very impressive skill set. Hope to see him on the 53 man roster sometime in the future.
AG7 - September 6, 2010
amen brother. you’re not alone.
Dawg Nuts - September 6, 2010
I think all BigTen fans are Penn State fans Saturday.
Bernie19Kosar - September 7, 2010
When they aren’t playing OSU, sure. When they are playing other Big 10 teams, maybe. This Saturday, definitely.
rufio - September 7, 2010
we’ll need everyone pulling for us that we can get. the freshman QB looked good against Youngstown St. at home; Alabama on the road will be a slightly different animal…
Dawg Nuts - September 7, 2010
If you guys could hold Ingram to a relatively small amount of yards so his chances for the Heisman go down, that’d be great. If he plays, that is.
rufio - September 7, 2010
The defense lost a lot of guys from last season, including 3 beast linebackers, so we’ll see what we’ve really got come saturday.
AG7 - September 7, 2010
i expect it to be competitive; but if they start as slow as they did against youngstown st., it won’t be.
Dawg Nuts - September 7, 2010
You pretty much have to stop/significantly slow down the running game, slow Jones down, and then score points. It is doable, especially if you can score points (they lost a lot on defense too).
rufio - September 7, 2010
I like this.
Brownie's Year - September 6, 2010
Norwood reminds me a bit of a less talented and younger version of Derrick Mason. A guy with reliable hands, good instincts, and knows how to get open, but is smaller and doesn’t have top end speed.
bross09 - September 6, 2010
Spot on.
AG7 - September 6, 2010
TJ Houshmanzadah signed with the Ravens. Joe Flacco has to be beaming now after all the help he got this offseason. Three good receivers in free agency and two tight ends in the draft.
Michael Jay - September 6, 2010
I must have missed the memo that Stallworth is good.
Roger Dorn - September 6, 2010
He meant good at sucking.
SpecialBrownie - September 6, 2010
maybe he still has speed, which is something…
bross09 - September 7, 2010
Hm, annoyed we lost Geathers and Francies wasn’t picked up. Also would’ve liked to have seen Reinders mature, oh well.
One of the first years I’m bad that we cut some people.
SpecialBrownie - September 6, 2010
mad*
SpecialBrownie - September 6, 2010
One thing to consider: Francies and Reinders could still be brought into camp next year.
Chris Pokorny - September 6, 2010
Meh, it’ll lose it’s feel. If you’ve been dropped once, I doubt you do anything extra when you’re brought back.
SpecialBrownie - September 6, 2010
unless they work their asses off to prove us wrong for cutting them this year. unlikely but possible.
Dawg Nuts - September 6, 2010
We aren’t signing Rudy here.
SpecialBrownie - September 6, 2010
that’s why i said unlikely.
Dawg Nuts - September 6, 2010
And even then Rudy is a tragic story comparison for a cuttee; we’d sign the guy and put him in for the last play of his career.
How is Rudy a feel good story?
SpecialBrownie - September 6, 2010
probably because ND fans think that anything and everything surrounding their program is “special” and “feel good.” I wasn’t particularly thrilled by samwise gamgee getting one career sack in garbage time.
Dawg Nuts - September 7, 2010
In real life, didn’t he break a rib or something on the play too?
Also, in addition to Sam Gamgee, he was a Goonie.
SpecialBrownie - September 7, 2010
Have we ever had a practice squad player contribute anything? Was Benard on the squad maybe?
realmccoy - September 6, 2010
Evan Moore, Marcus Benard, Chris Jennings, Brian Schaefering…. those are just guys from last years that contributed and are on the roster this season.
Justin Kowalczyk - September 6, 2010
whoops Jennings got cut i forgot. well he did contribute last year, atleast in the Pitt game.
Justin Kowalczyk - September 6, 2010
I thing Benard can be a big deal. Evan Moore too – but I like him more as a 4 receiver package than TE.
realmccoy - September 6, 2010
Moore at TE creates just as bad of a matchup for the opposition as lining him up in the slot formation. I also think he is improving in the blocking aspect of his game, which could turn him from a situational TE to a surefire starter.
Justin Kowalczyk - September 6, 2010
I think that Bernard is the best pass rusher we have on this roster.
I am hoping that he can get a lot more reps this season.
Bernie19Kosar - September 6, 2010
It seems like regardless of the situation, if he gets in, he’s making plays. Guy has a nose for the ball.
AG7 - September 6, 2010
I actually think it is a good thing if we are angry about a few of our cuts. Suggests we might actually have a bit more talent on the roster. That said, guys like Geathers are easy to fall in love with because of their “potential”, but very very rarely turn into anything worth keeping around.
APV - September 6, 2010
Right, I’m glad I’m angry.
SpecialBrownie - September 6, 2010
Agree
Roger Dorn - September 6, 2010
Is this real? We are actually heading into the season with 3 CBs and 12 LBs? I cant believe we haven´t picked up someone yet. They want to count Mike Adams as a corner – BS. When they benched B-Mac, they put in Adams and then had to go back to B-Mac. Mike is too long in the tooth and too slow for CB, nice guy tho.
realmccoy - September 6, 2010
do you see the difference in having Adams cover the other teams #4 WR not the #2 like he had to do last year? If not this conversation should end immediately and the red x in the upper right corner of your screen should be clicked immediately.
Justin Kowalczyk - September 6, 2010
You can cover or not.
realmccoy - September 6, 2010
so you really do not see the difference at all between a teams #2 WR and their #4?
Justin Kowalczyk - September 6, 2010
You can also tackle or not.
SpecialBrownie - September 6, 2010
But at least you have a sideline to work with.
realmccoy - September 7, 2010
The sideline is there in coverage too tbh.
Justin Kowalczyk - September 7, 2010
but it’s a hell of a lot easier to cover a 4 than a 2.
notthatnoise - September 6, 2010
Mike Adams vs. TO is worrisome.
Mike Adams vs. Andre Caldwell is acceptable.
Difference between 2 and 4 is massive. I’m not saying Adams is anything great, but he can pass for a 4th CB.
If we have an injury to CB’s 1-3, knock on wood, then we are in deep squadoosh.
Bernie19Kosar - September 6, 2010
If this happens, I will be quoting Soulja Boy… “Throw the towel in, give up! Throw the towel in, give up!”
SpecialBrownie - September 6, 2010
The difference to me between Mcdonald and Adams is minimal even at corner, so I have no problem with the decision.
Roger Dorn - September 6, 2010
and the difference at being able to play safety is MUCH larger…so i do like this move.
