After a fun-filled morning session with some highlights from Brian Robiskie and the Cyclone formation, the Cleveland Browns took the field for their evening session of the third day of camp. Unfortunately, the news reports on the evening session were far and few between. If you're interested in a bunch of notes on players hitting the stationary bikes, then brace yourself. If you're looking more news on plays, then don't get your hopes up.

TRAINING CAMP REPORT - DAY 3 [EVENING] (8/2/10)
- Welcome Back, Pashos: The top news item for the evening session is that projected starting right tackle Tony Pashos finally saw the field. He missed the first four sessions with a "cold." Still sidelined was last year's starting right tackle, John St. Clair.
- Not Participating: Besides the players on the PUP list and St. Clair, the following players did not take part in the evening session: FB Peyton Hillis, OL Scott Kooistra, DE Derreck Robinson, LB David Bowens, and CB DeAngelo Smith. Obviously, Hillis and Bowens are the most notable players there, but nothing serious happened to them as they just rode the stationary bikes.
- Royal Shows Off His Blocking: One of the bigger headlines of the evening session appeared to involve TE Robert Royal in blocking drills. There were three plays cited by the ABJ, in this order: first, Royal got thrown to the ground by LB Marcus Benard. In a re-match, Royal was able to lock up Benard and drive him back a few yards. Finally, Royal "stoned" linebacker Matt Roth, drawing a reaction from the crowd.
- Wright Has Delhomme's Number: Two practices, two picks for CB Eric Wright on QB Jake Delhomme. Another defensive back had an interception -- that would be S Ray Ventrone, who got backup quarterback Seneca Wallace.
- Absolute Nonsense: I like the little reports that CBSSports.com provides on training camp, but the following tidbit is utter nonsense: "There's been speculation that Browns LG Eric Steinbach could be losing his grip on the starting spot, but it's quite unlikely. He's been working exclusively with the first team." Fans in attendance have praised Steinbach.
- Bobby Engram Watch: It doesn't seem like the veteran receiver is working with the first- or second-team offenses too much. The ABJ reports that he had a nice catch-and-run with QB Colt McCoy, and also muffed a punt on special teams. Too many muffed punts for these guys.
- Linebacker Stays the Same: After three days, I have to say I'm quite surprised that Eric Mangini has kept the same unit on the first team at linebacker. If you don't recall, that unit consists of Scott Fujita and Matt Roth on the outside, and Chris Gocong and D'Qwell Jackson on the inside.
- Big Runs for Running Backs: While fans assumed that Chris Jennings would be the odd man out of the Browns' backfield, he's not going down quietly. He had a big run on a cutback play, but his competition, James Davis, matched him by scoring on a pitch play to the left edge. Davis relied on his speed to give him the advantage and break the big run.
- Adam Schefter in the House: During the morning session, ESPN and Schefter were in attendance to report on the Browns camp. Schefter's report, which is more of a broad overview, can be found here. Sirius NFL Radio will be covering Browns camp on Thursday, August 5, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m.
- Brownies: CBSSports notes that Johnathan Haggerty is getting separation from defensive backs, and the ABJ notes that Carlton Mitchell dropped another pass...coaches were 'chest-bumping' when Royal made his blocks, according to Cabot.
Monday's Link Collection / Camp Sources [Evening Session]
Make sure you do not head out to Berea on Tuesday, because practice is CLOSED to the public. The media will be in attendance though, so the Plain Dealer, Akron Beacon Journal, the OBR, and a few of the other sources should still have some information available.
I don’t understand the hate for Stein. People were trying to say he was one of the worst guards last season. Wtf?
SpecialBrownie - August 2, 2010
The negativity toward him is just too bizarre.
Chris Pokorny - August 2, 2010
Jealousy?
SpecialBrownie - August 2, 2010
He did not play up to my expectations of him last year. Worst in the league is a little harsh.

The Licensed Pessimist - August 3, 2010
I like how much higher Hank Fraley is on that list.
Chris Pokorny - August 3, 2010
You’ve brought this up before, and I honestly don’t agree with their grades for many players, not just Steinbach.
To grade him that low for some games is just silly, and I am re-watching those games within the last two months, not just trying to remember from during the actual season.
rufio - August 3, 2010
Have you watched every other G in the league?
The Licensed Pessimist - August 3, 2010
“I’m the seventh letter of the alphabet (I’m a G)”
Like Young Joc perhaps?
SpecialBrownie - August 3, 2010
you don’t have to watch any other guards to know whether or not one of them is doing his job.
notthatnoise - August 3, 2010
The only ones I have watched anywhere near as much as ours were the ones we played. And to be fair, I only watched them closely against us.
Considering that, there were at least a few games where the discrepancy in grades didn’t make a whole lot of sense to me (i.e. vs Sitton/GB week 7, Chester/Bal week 10, Denver’s guards week 2, even Wood/Buf week 5)
rufio - August 3, 2010
Well that settles it.
Roger Dorn - August 3, 2010
Reinders is a Thomas worshiper. Awesome.
SpecialBrownie - August 2, 2010
Keep the national media away from Berea. I really like the peacefulness that’s coming out of TC. No need for CBSSPORTSLINE to stoke a fire that doesn’t exist. And what good is Schefter? The less news out of camp the better. At this point good news must be taken with a grain of salt; and the only news you can trust is bad news (injuries and holdouts).
Showcasing the backup RBs in the first preseason game will be important – I smell a trade to get one of these guys on to another team before TC ends.
Spidey - August 3, 2010 via mobile
I doubt that either player is tradeable. Teams will wait for one of the two to be cut.
golanbatrac - August 3, 2010
No team is going to give up anything to get Jennings or Davis. Neither player is that valuable.
Buckeye Brad - August 3, 2010
its kinda like DA in the offseason too. we couldn’t get anything for him partly because everyone knew he would be released before he was due that bonus. Looking at the roster. it would be clear to most teams that one of these guys will be cut and they have a 50% chance at the guy they want being released so thy can get him for free without a trade.
bross09 - August 3, 2010
That right there tells you just how much he knows about Cleveland. Anyone who was a fan during that final stretch knows all about Moore, and how we wanted to see more of Moore, some more as we ate our own smores.
BrownDawg1409 - August 3, 2010
Hmmm, he might have meant Browns fans, but when I originally read it, I thought he was referring to NFL fans in general.
Chris Pokorny - August 3, 2010
Same
Roger Dorn - August 3, 2010
I felt that.
Plus, we are kinda in our little bubble and everyone here wants to see more of Moore, but (I hate to toot our own horns) we are in some ways more attentive fans than others, for the mere fact that we talk about the team here. There are many fans that do not know a ton of moore. My father for instance who I talk football with and is a big browns fan, he just doesn’t follow every single player to the extent we do. plus, there are also all the more casual fans who are still fans
bross09 - August 3, 2010
I’m pretty sure he’s talking about all fans across the country, not just Browns fans. And he’s correct that most fans don’t know Moore.
