In a minor move at the receiver position, the Cleveland Browns have signed former Miami Dolphin Taurus Johnson, according to his agent. Johnson went to the University of South Florida and has spent minimal time with the Chiefs, Lions, and Dolphins, either in camp or on practice squads.
Standing at 6-1, 218 pounds, Johnson went undrafted in 2009. There is no word on who the Browns released to make room for Johnson.

Definitely like the idea of adding some WR depth. Haggerty, Mitchell and Jake Allen certainly didn’t show me much in the game last Sat. Nor did Bobby Engram.

yeah, but who the heck is this guy?
discoinferno083 - August 16, 2010
Nothing I read on him was promising, Haley yelling at him to stop lolly gagging around as an undrafted free agent last year was not inspiring…IMO don’t expect to see him for long.
Drexel Dawg - August 16, 2010
That makes him a lollygagger.
realmccoy - August 16, 2010
He got his lollygagging papers.

Looks like TC fodder while some guys lick their wounds.

Sportsline’s rapid reports say that Haggerty was put on the Waived/Injured Reserve list in order to make room for Johnson.
OSUMoneyball - August 16, 2010
according to AP
So I think Sportsline was right.

Wouldn´t they have to come to an injury settlement with Haggerty? I did not think you could waive an injured player. Hate to see this kid go for a lolly gagger.
realmccoy - August 16, 2010
no idea…I don’t know if he was hurt enough to be considered ‘injured’ or actually missing practice. He may just be banged up or sore, but we don’t know yet. If he was listed as still being on the team but not being injured for practice (if there was practice today), that would make it much clearer.
bross09 - August 16, 2010
From what I read is that the Browns waive him and if nobody picks him up the can place him on IR.
OSUMoneyball - August 16, 2010
I believe when you waive someone who is injured they usually end up on your roster. I can’t remember if this is how the Jags stole Carey or not, though. It might be an unwritten rule that you let someone else’s injured players clear waivers.
rufio - August 16, 2010
This is why people were flippin’ when it happened.
SpecialBrownie - August 16, 2010
Yea, this is the same scenario as Carey. Typically a player that is going to go on IR will clear waivers and then be put on IR. It creates an extra roster spot if you put him through waivers first. That’s why the unwritten rule is necessary.
Roger Dorn - August 17, 2010
Does this happen for every player? Even Zastudil? That’s crazy
SpecialBrownie - August 17, 2010
Zastudil is being placed directly on the IR so he does not have to clear waivers. The Browns are not terminating his contract basically.
Haggerty is being “released” by the Browns until he clears waivers. If no one else wants him then he goes on our IR.
LiveandDiefortheDawgPound - August 17, 2010
Right, should have clarified that point.
Roger Dorn - August 17, 2010
So, is this what the Titans are doing with Stafon right now?
SpecialBrownie - August 18, 2010
Most likely. A team that claimed Stafon would have to keep him on their regular roster the whole season though. For a player that was a long shot to make it in the first place, I would be stunned if any team claimed him.
Roger Dorn - August 18, 2010
This is correct. And then if he clears waivers and goes on our IR we can give him a settlement.
LiveandDiefortheDawgPound - August 16, 2010
He should do well at Ford Field
(groooooan)
JulioBernazard - August 16, 2010
Wonder if Mitchell put in a good word for him? He’ll be gone in a few weeks anyways.
Brownie's Year - August 16, 2010
Honestly, I am not overly thrilled by this pick up but it really cant hurt either. Whats the worst that can happen, he stands out from the other scrubs (Mitchell) deep in the depth chart.
