After signing all five of their restricted free agents yesterday, the Cleveland Browns had to waive some players to make room on the 80-man roster. There weren't any surprise cuts, as some of these players will probably leave you thinking, "Who?":
In exchange, the Browns will have RB Jerome Harrison, FB Lawrence Vickers, LB D'Qwell Jackson, LB Matt Roth, and S Abram Elam all under one-year contracts this season. Adding up their tenders, the group will make a total of $8.837 million.
The players' agents say that their clients aren't happy, but you can't fault the Browns here. None of the players had any leverage, and when you look at all of the positions, the only one who might have a "secure" job is Vickers. And, let's face it -- fullback isn't exactly the type of position where lucrative deals get handed out. By going this route, the Browns can re-evaluate each player/position this year and make a decision either during or after the season is over.

OSUMoneyball - June 15, 2010
It’s too bad we traded Braylon to the Jets. He’s a perfect Dorn.
golanbatrac - June 15, 2010
Wash your mouth out with soap, sir.
Roger Dorn - June 15, 2010
no offense, but he’s right. BE would’ve been a perfect dorn. we still love you though big guy.
Dawg Nuts - June 15, 2010
Sorry man, but it’s the truth.
golanbatrac - June 15, 2010
I wasn’t referring to the Dorn part, just the part where you expressed dismay that Braylon was traded.
Roger Dorn - June 15, 2010
soap. in. mouth.

Matt roth=that tough as nails, in your face, asian guy (something tanaka?)
I can’t think of who would be Wild Thing…maybe Ward?
bross09 - June 16, 2010
If Derek Anderson was still around I would say him. Threw as hard as he could and couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn….may that was his problem, he just needs some glasses.
OSUMoneyball - June 17, 2010
good one…but even glasses cannot cure what is DA.
bross09 - June 17, 2010
Braylon can’t be Parkman because Parkman was actually good!
I think Ken Dorsey would’ve made a good Dorn.
Legoman0721 - June 15, 2010 via mobile
I always think of Dorn though as the guy more obsessed with his image, body, and investments over the game a lot of the time. he also didn’t like to get dirty or try that hard…sounds like BE to me.

Contract negotiation is a two way street. If the Browns FO wants to act tough financially, they´ll pay for it in the draft and free agency. No player wants to be unappreciated.
mooncamping - June 16, 2010
These players all had the ability to be appreciated by other teams – the FA in RFA stands for Free Agent. The fact that no other team was willing to come in and swoop them up should say something about how the league appreciates them.
woodsmeister - June 16, 2010
Yeah, and the R stands for restricted, and not the movie kind. Restricted as in not free to negotiate new contracts, right. What was it? All five were given a second round draft pick comparison rating, just in time to keep them hanging on prior to the draft. Now check Abe Elam for example, he played like a champ last year, he´s worth at least a first round draft pick at that point prior to the draft. Then they go and grab Ward and Asante, how would you feel? There were some kinds of deadlines that quaintly passed. And then, what is it now: “a hardball offer to reduce their salaries”?!? Gosh, what a pittifull franchise.
mooncamping - June 17, 2010
32 NFL teams disagree with you. Add in everyone who has seen Abe Elam play and I would say that you are outnumbered.
Bernie19Kosar - June 17, 2010
Couldn’t agree more. If you draft Abe Elam in the first round, looking at last years performance, then you truly are mooncamping….
The naome40 - June 18, 2010 via mobile
You and what army, eh?
mooncamping - June 18, 2010
Mooncamping’s internal multitudes ensure that he’s always the majority.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - June 18, 2010
So you´ve come to realize there are camps on earth that have learned to fudge democratic processes? May I ask how late in coming you are?
mooncamping - June 20, 2010
That’s not a new realization for me, but admittedly I am still adjusting to the idea that a single self-described entity can consider itself a major force of numbers. Do give me time to adjust to this New Reality.
(I speak now outside my role as MIDAS spokesman, in case there’s any doubt.)
RelapsingDawgCatcher - June 23, 2010
Harrison had some leverage too. Beyond the rookie we don’t have another talented rb, I don’t think we really know enough about Hillis, Davis, or Jennings yet to consider them a threat to his position..
dej1221 - June 16, 2010
I wouldn’t call any of them threats, but we have 1 guy who is and enough quality depth that we would have been fine without harrison. he still had no leverage.
notthatnoise - June 16, 2010
RB’s are a dime a dozen.
Bernie19Kosar - June 16, 2010
Seventeen cents for a case!
JustBob - June 16, 2010
Its a shame Harrison and Roth had no leverage considering their units got so much better when they started, and we actually won games!
The Browns need to get better and recognizing their diamonds in the rough and make sure to take care of them.
HenryDawg - June 17, 2010 via mobile
I’m sorry, but 4 games doesn’t mean anything.
notthatnoise - June 17, 2010
Well if they truly are diamonds in the rough and not flashes in the pan, we can sign them to long term deals anytime before the end of the season.
They haven’t ruled out giving them long term deals, they’ve just ruled it out as happening before this season.
