In today's edition of Around the Pound, Terry Pluto has some more comments on the Cleveland Browns' rookie minicamp, a former Browns receivers supports local students with scholarships, and a quick look at the tight end the team signed earlier in the week.
The player that Pluto was quick to highlight in his Sunday column was RB Montario Hardesty. As far as why Hardesty looked impressive, Pluto had this to say:
Hardesty grabbed onto the offensive concepts. He impressed when it was time to draw up plays on the board. He also was in good shape, ran hard and showed more than power -- a quick first step and an ability to make sharp cuts. The Browns believe he can step in and combine with Jerome Harrison to give them an excellent 1-2 combination, with Peyton Hillis also in the mix as a short-yardage back.
Pluto also summarized his thoughts on the rest of the running backs on the roster: there is no way that FB Lawrence Vickers' job is in danger, Chris Jennings and James Davis can see this as a message that the team wanted to upgrade their talent at running back, and the team also wants to be stacked at running back given their lack of threat at quarterback.
Some other notes from Pluto's column...

A few days ago, the Browns signed former Tampa Bay Buccaneers TE Alex Smith. Some of you were asking, "who the heck is that?", but I definitely remembered who he was because of QB Alex Smith. The quarterback was a first-round pick, and yet all of a sudden in Week 1 of the tight end's rookie season, he caught two touchdowns from QB Brian Griese en route to a victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Ever since then, Smith's name stuck with me.
He faced the Browns once during his career. That came in the 2006 season, when he caught 4 passes for 45 yards in Week 16. The Browns lost the game 22-7, where Derek Anderson was an impressive 10-of-27 for 123 yards and 4 interceptions. It never gets old to throw a dig at Anderson in here.
As far as his roster odds, I think it'll come down to Robert Royal vs. Alex Smith, with Royal having the advantage right now. Royal has proven to be a pretty good run blocker, so Smith will have to show that he is a good enough run blocker, coupled with his already decent ability to catch the ball. Ben Watson is a lock, and I'd like to think Evan Moore is a lock, but in reality that could be far from the truth.
A piece is coming up soon about the Browns receivers after Eric Mangini noted the team will consider bringing in a veteran receiver, but for now, WR Mohamed Massaquoi is confident in the group:
"If you just came and saw us work, seen how much we've grown, I think that question would be answered by itself," Massaquoi said. "[Robiskie's] primed for a good year. I'm primed for a breakout year. Stuckey's been working hard. Josh is still going to be the dynamic player that he is."
Massaquoi notes the struggles last year (two rookies, Edwards leaving, Stuckey's sudden arrival, instability at quarterback) versus having a much more stable looking plan this season as a reason to have confidence.
This will probably be the first (and last) positive news piece you'll see regarding Braylon Edwards since he departure from the Browns. Part of his scholarship program that commenced when he was a member of the Browns continues to make an impact:
Nine Cleveland high school students celebrated earning $10,000 each for college Saturday thanks to football star Braylon Edwards.
The scholarships were giving away at the The 3rd Annual Braylon Edwards Foundation Advance 100 Awards Banquet, held at Cuyahoga Community College.
The event celebrates those Cleveland Metropolitan School District high school juniors who continue in the program started several years ago by Braylon Edwards, formerly of the Cleveland Browns, who donated $1 million for college scholarships.

the news on hardesty is excellent. i’m feeling pretty good about him; i feel he has the potential to be the steal of this draft. the bit about the quick first step is outstanding. it just feels good this year, like every pick was well thought out and has the potential to help us.
Dawg Nuts - May 9, 2010
And it seems like most of the picks will get playing time, as opposed to how guys like Maiava, Francies, and Veikune were treated last year. Hardesty is in line to split reps with Harrison, Haden is a lock to see the field at least at nickel back, and between Ward/Asante, one of them will see significant playing time at safety.
Chris Pokorny - May 9, 2010
good point. let’s continue to exorcise the demons of romeo.
Dawg Nuts - May 9, 2010
Romeo didn’t draft those guys.
TheDriveStillHurts - May 9, 2010
Maybe he was referring to Romeo never ever ever ever playing rookies?
rufio - May 10, 2010
yes, i was. never, ever, ever, ever.
Dawg Nuts - May 10, 2010
Romeo played the good rookies.
Roger Dorn - May 10, 2010
I C WAT U DID THAR
jaws. - May 10, 2010
Romeo did nothing, absolutely nothing, right. I am convinced that if every single decision he made was completely reversed, he’d have had a better record. It’s very safe to assume that many of the rookies he didn’t play were good, and the wholesale lack of development from a single player under his tutelage points towards some very good rookies being ruined by him.
kwoog - May 11, 2010
But wouldn’t some of those players have gone to another team and played well if it was all Romeo’s fault? We’ve seen plenty of examples of players underforming for one team then playing much better when he goes to another team (so you can’t just say that Romeo ruined them for the rest of their careers; if they had talent then another team would pick them up and give them a chance to play).
Buckeye Brad - May 11, 2010
but this point of view implicates phil savage
notthatnoise - May 11, 2010
This is basically the point I have tried to make before. It would be one thing if Browns were leaving and finding success elsewhere. I cannot think of one example where we really screwed up letting a guy go.
Roger Dorn - May 11, 2010
I think Shaun O’hara was the last good player we let get away.
golanbatrac - May 11, 2010
Anthony Henry had some decent years in Dallas.
danvail - May 11, 2010
Expensive free agent contract though which makes it more understandable. You could argue Jeff Faine was a dumb trade and way too hasty.
Roger Dorn - May 11, 2010
it was a bit of a gamble, but at the time it made sense. If Bentley doesn’t blow up that trade looks decent.
notthatnoise - May 11, 2010
I wasn’t opposed at the time, but I think a good lesson could be learned from it. You can’t have too many good lineman and depth is fleeting.
Roger Dorn - May 11, 2010
It was a a poor decision.
We started Joe Andruzzi at guard. We could have moved Bentley or Faine over to guard.
Bernie19Kosar - May 11, 2010
Faine might have been disgruntled.
danvail - May 12, 2010
but at the time faine sucked, thats why we got bentley in the first place.
notthatnoise - May 12, 2010
yes. but neither henry or O’Hara were gotten rid of during the savage/crennel era.
bross09 - May 11, 2010
No one said that they were.
golanbatrac - May 11, 2010
yes. I was not implying either you or Danvail said that. I was just pointing out that these moves where players were successful were before crennel…and this conversation started about crennel really. Just trying to tie everything together.
bross09 - May 11, 2010
This is false.
TheDriveStillHurts - May 11, 2010
Dumb statement. For someone so interested in “intellectual integrity,” I would expect an avoidance of absolutes.
gahnki - May 11, 2010
This is false.
TheDriveStillHurts - May 11, 2010
“This is false” is false.
Simmsinns - May 11, 2010
What’s with the drive-by false-ings? I mean, if you could point and carve that in stone with your finger maybe then I’d be impressed.
Western Reserve - May 11, 2010
Here.
TheDriveStillHurts - May 11, 2010
Ah, got it. Carry on.
Western Reserve - May 11, 2010
It’s satire of kwoog’s style.
gahnki - May 11, 2010
Exactly.
Buckeye Brad - May 11, 2010
Intellectual integrity also requires responding to your critics and allowing yourself to back down from a position.
joeee - May 13, 2010
Yeah that’s good to hear.
emily522 - May 9, 2010
Iron man 2
Saw it, not as good as the first. The first hour was a snoozefest before the action began and when the action finally did take off it was not too impressive. I would wait to rent it if I could do it all over again. Just my opinion.
GO BROWNS!
Stdavis9210 - May 9, 2010
totally agree, not worh it
Tom Bloom - May 9, 2010
Iron Man 2 was pretty weak. The pacing was off and the showdowns with the antagonist were short/underwhelming.
The Licensed Pessimist - May 9, 2010
We still have some room on the Montario bandwagon, but seats are filling up fast.
I hope I am wrong, but I have this feeling that TJ Ward is never going to amount to anything. Just a feeling.
Bernie19Kosar - May 9, 2010 via mobile
I think the Assassin will over take him fairly quickly.
Also, can DB’s have numbers under 10?
SpecialBrownie - May 9, 2010
The natural positions for Ward and Asante are FS and SS, respectively. If not some time this year, expect these two to be the starting safeties in 2011. This is exactly why both were drafted and they will be given every chance to succeed.
theotherJimBrown - May 9, 2010
What, exactly, do you mean by this?
rufio - May 10, 2010
i’d like to request first class seating.
Dawg Nuts - May 9, 2010
Just filled up sorry, I booked the last one.
Have fun eating microwavable plastic in Coach… I’m eating steak.
SpecialBrownie - May 9, 2010

bross09 - May 9, 2010
Where is moon sitting?
TheRealSlimShady - May 9, 2010
The captain of course
Villeslgr - May 9, 2010
He is piloting the all FB offense bandwagon.
Bernie19Kosar - May 10, 2010
Hardesty could fit in as a hybrid FB.
TheRealSlimShady - May 10, 2010
I am not as worried as you about Ward, I think only injuries prevent him from seeing the field. I do think Assassin will get his share of PT.
Roger Dorn - May 9, 2010
I am looking at the last few games from this past season right now…if Asante can be a more talented version of Mike Adams our secondary can be awesome. Poteat and Furrey were clearly our weak spots (as most would probably assume), and I think it would be a disappointment if we haven’t already upgraded over both of them and McDonald.
rufio - May 10, 2010
I have a different feeling about ward. Personally, I think he could be good. Hopefully my feeling is stronger…but maybe I am just too hopeful.
bross09 - May 9, 2010
Prior to the draft, I had replied on numerous Browns sites that they should draft him.
Can I be president of the bandwagon?
theotherJimBrown - May 9, 2010
Monterio Hardesty, that is….
theotherJimBrown - May 9, 2010
I agree about Ward. Being a good FS has a lot more to do with just hitting hard, but that seems to be the only he has going for him. He’s a poor man’s Taylor Mays
The Licensed Pessimist - May 9, 2010
Mangini’s defense doesn’t really distinguish between the safety positions. Both will be expected to cover and offer help in the run game.
Roger Dorn - May 9, 2010
You can can’t me off this bandwagon. I like him, but I think Harrison is the real star, and I’ve been saying it since 2008.
Simmsinns - May 9, 2010
Agreed. RB selection seems like such a crap shoot. There are many RB’s with Hardesty’s skill set who’ve failed, and random late round picks without physical gift’s who’ve came on their team and made an impact. Not saying any of that reflects his chance at success, but I’ll take actual NFL production in Harrison.
The Licensed Pessimist - May 9, 2010
I wouldn’t say it’s a crapshoot because it doesn’t have that high of a bust rate.
TheRealSlimShady - May 9, 2010
a little pre-season optimism never hurt anyone, make room for me on that bandwagon.
notthatnoise - May 9, 2010
Wanna hop on the TJ Anti-bandwagon with me?
TheRealSlimShady - May 9, 2010
Maybe if he had played for Notre Dame you would like him more? Aren’t you a Broncos or Panthers fan yet TRSS?
BrownsFanRegina - May 9, 2010
Yea, let’s all root against our rookies.
StuckInPa - May 9, 2010
Notice you said our.
TheRealSlimShady - May 10, 2010
This is another example of what I was talking about. Coming to a team’s board to intentionally antagonize.
Roger Dorn - May 10, 2010
Does it surprise you? If he’s going to constantly be an ass just ignore him. Sorry for swearing BB, but it’s the only word that fits here.
StuckInPa - May 10, 2010
Yeah, I’m not sure “butt” would have sufficed.
Simmsinns - May 10, 2010
K peace
TheRealSlimShady - May 10, 2010
We respect differing opinions. I have no problem that you don’t think Ward will turn into much. It’s the way you go about it right now.

After Kragthorpe I would be excited about Moon coming to be the head coach!
But yes, I am very excited about Strong. He has recruited very well so far and I’m ready to see him make UofL actually look like a football team again.
TheRealSlimShady - May 13, 2010

Villeslgr - May 12, 2010
Its all good. Still gotta show some support to my fellow Big East teams.
Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010
I wonder if Browns coaches are not too concerned about adding veteran receivers because tight end has become a strength. Watson has the speed, size and hands to create mismatches as a receiver, and we have four other tight ends who could rotate in a more traditional tight end role. Apparently Hardesty has pass catching skills as well. The receiving corps may not be so thin after all.
NM Dawg - May 9, 2010
Seriously?!? Maybe — maybe — we are good enough at tight end, but a strength? I think you need to look up the definition of strength. Ben Watson is a decent pass-catching tight end — he ain’t K2. After that, we have . . . Evan Moore. He definitely had some flashes. Alex Smith? Robert Royal? To call tight end a strength is a joke. A freaking joke.
TheDriveStillHurts - May 9, 2010
I am expecting big things from Watson. I don’t know if they will show up in the stat sheet. Alex Smith is a pretty good #2 TE, IMO, and Moore is the “wildcard”. We are lightyears ahead at TE of where we were last year. That isn’t saying a whole lot, but we should look a lot better at that position.
rufio - May 10, 2010
I would call it a strength relative to, say WR or QB, but I agree that it’s not one of the best units in the league. Still, you underrate Alex Smith and Ben Watson both.
danvail - May 10, 2010
A relative strength to WR or QB — that might not be saying much.
Western Reserve - May 10, 2010
It isn’t, but that would still mean it is a strength of our team.
rufio - May 10, 2010
We also have two good blockers in Vickers and Hillis, taking some pressure off the TEs in that task. Alex Smith and Evan Moore can function more as receivers. I don’t know how Royal fits in. He had his fingers wrapped for a good part of last season.
NM Dawg - May 10, 2010
Lost has been great recently, I am expecting one of the all time best for this week’s episode.
Roger Dorn - May 9, 2010
Iron Man 2 had better villains than the original ,terrorists and Obadiah Stane do not compare to Mickey Rouke’s portrayal of Whiplash and Sam Rockwell is really funny as Stark’s competitor.
Plus, how can anyone not love War Machine?!
It was witty, action-packed, entertaining, and funny…all of the things that made the first film great, but minus all the origin stuff.
Anyone who thinks that this movie was off, also probably thinks that X-Men: Last Stand was a good movie too.
theW0LF - May 9, 2010
I haven’t seen the movie yet, but War Machine was awful in comic form. Marvel really should stay away from anything that had it’s origin in the 90’s boom (except for Carnage. A sick-ass, blood and gore, x-rated spidey flick could be awesome).
golanbatrac - May 9, 2010
War Machine was an orgy of disaster. Everyone who wore the suit basically died or became crippled. I’m pretty sure Carnage was going to be the 4th installment but now that there’s a reboot, you might have to wait four more movies again. I personally hope they don’t re – do Doc Oc, that one was less than desirable. Carnage is cool because he’s Venom’s weird, love sick baby. And Toxin is also cool but less known because he’s a crime fighter.
SpecialBrownie - May 9, 2010
oh. I don’t think i heard about that reboot. I was really looking forward to someone like Carnage…carnage was a sick (in more ways than one) villain.
Doc Oc was cool, but they did not do it well in the movie. Personally, I think he is cool, but doesn’t translate as well to the movie form.
bross09 - May 9, 2010
I guess you never read the U.S. War Machine trade.
theW0LF - May 9, 2010
Carnage is a terrible excuse for a Spidey villain and just a wannabe Venom copy.
theW0LF - May 9, 2010
…Carnage literally is a Venom copy dude. Duh.
SpecialBrownie - May 9, 2010
I know. That’s why he’s lame. Duh.
theW0LF - May 9, 2010
Carnage is awesome. Duh.
SpecialBrownie - May 9, 2010
Agreed. Duh.
danvail - May 9, 2010
Duh.
gahnki - May 10, 2010
He’s Venom rendered without restraint. Full on blood and gore. He’s the signpost that marks the exact date when a) Marvel ran out of ideas, and b) Marvel said “to hell with the kids, let’s sell our books to the flabby middle-aged cellar-dwelling fanboys who’ll buy twelve copies of anything we produce”. He’s the tombstone atop the cape and tights genre, and as such, should be celebrated.

Dawg Nuts - May 10, 2010
I agree. Mickey Rourke was great and Scarlett Johansen/Samuel L. were nice additions also. And I like Don Cheadle better than Terrence Howard- he sounds less whiney.
Overall, there is more plot than fighting in this one versus the last one, but I don’t completely consider that a bad thing. Maybe slightly less good than the first, but still a witty and entertaining movie.
tmptplayer - May 9, 2010
I completely agree that Cheadle was better than Howard and Marvel has already announced that they will proceed with a third installment that will probably start filming after the Avengers film.
theW0LF - May 9, 2010
Also, forgot to mention. Can’t remember who I was discussing this with re: Delhomme’s contract, but Grossi’s mailbag today featured a question asking the details about Delhomme’s contract. Grossi mentioned that his thought was that Jake had a fully guaranteed signing bonus of 6 million which would be paid this year, but his base salary in both year 1 and 2 is just above the league minimum for a player with his experience.
Roger Dorn - May 9, 2010

I’m out for Mothers’ Day today, but hopefully I’m able to catch the second half of the Cavs game. Friday was awesome!
emily522 - May 9, 2010
Hardesty could be the starter some time this season.
It’s good to see Mass with that confidence. He’s taking the leader role as he should.
FRINGE!!!!! That last episode was AWESOME!!! Peter’s real father, Walter from the other dimension, totally showed up to bring Peter to his real home. Things are popin’ off!
Brownie's Year - May 9, 2010
I tried watching that Fringe show this year.
I had no freaking idea what was going on even with my buddy trying to explain it.
Bernie19Kosar - May 9, 2010
If you don’t start from the beginning you’re screwed.
SpecialBrownie - May 9, 2010
yeah…with most of J.J. Abrams’ shows that is true…Lost, Fringe, even Alias was a bit confusing if you didn’t see it from the beginning. I think some of the better shows are like that…because all the episodes link together…like the Sopranos.
bross09 - May 9, 2010
I can see how it would be confusing. There is really only a few things you need to know. If you start at the beginning of a season you should be ok.
This is why I don’t watch LOST. I watched one episode with my Limey bro-in-law during the 3rd or 4th season and felt like an idiot. Had no clue what was happening. I saw some black mass ghost type thing and was like "WTF is that? I’m done!".
Brownie's Year - May 9, 2010
what is this, the 19th century? I haven’t heard of that being used since the 1880s.

bross and BY, I deleted that entire thread because there were too many swear words and other offensive words. Let’s stop the personal attacks — both of you.

just to clarify though
I know as moderator you have to be the peacekeeper. However, during this whole thing, I tried my darndest to avoid personal attacks.
bross09 - May 10, 2010
LOL You were the one who started it. That comment is still lingering up there. Just because me and that other guy completely burned you, doesn’t make you the lil’ kitty cat in the corner. You started running your mouth and got knocked out. We all saw it.
Brownie's Year - May 10, 2010
wow. first of all, way to be mature.
second, I started it by pointing out that limey is an outdated word…plus it is pejorative slang that would be insulting to many who are british.
wow…you always seem to have an interesting view of history. you burned me SOOO BAAD!
not really. Chain of events:
-you use questionable perjorative slang
-I point out how it is outdated, in an attempt to later point out how it was unnecessary and possibly inappropriate
-you go back to your best friend. Mr. Ad Hominem. Instead of facing the issue of the word limey, you then attack me for not knowing what it is, making suppositions that not only did I look that up but that I look everything up.
-like every debate, instead of debating the issue, you feel it is completely necessary to attack and falsely denigrate my intelligence based on no evidence at hand and only your vast suppositions.
really, it was you that was running your mouth…not like its the first time you have gotten into something with me or someone else here and just started attacking them out of the blue.
bross09 - May 10, 2010
You really find "Limey" that offensive? You must not know anyone from England. My sister married a Brit and his family became my family. Them and I have had this discussion. They’re Limeys to us and we’re Wankers to them. It’s all good. How do you think I know the true definition of Limey? From my family.

Mr. Kotter and the Sweathogs.

SpecialBrownie - May 9, 2010
Holmgren looks like he is playing amazing purple nurple defense.
Bernie19Kosar - May 9, 2010
Those of you interested in seeing a movie, please go see Kick-Ass! It’s ten times the movie that Iron Man 2 is. It’s sad to see not doing well in box office despite being easily the best movie to come out so far this year.
Kick-Ass is a must see. It’s an incredible movie, with all the elements. Keeps you on the edge of your seat and laughing the whole time. There’s a not single part of the film where it slows down, or is uninteresting. Easily the best “super-hero” film since the Dark Knight.
Simmsinns - May 9, 2010
I heard it sucked. Like straight sucked. I don’t like the use of guns in it. If they were nerds being superheroes, that’s cool. But nerd superheroes using guns? Completely stupid.
SpecialBrownie - May 9, 2010
It doesn’t suck. It’s widely accepted as awesome by most people who see it. Of course it’s all opinion, and if 5% of people who actually see it, don’t like it than that’s fine for them. But most people who see this movie find it a fantastic comedy / action movie, because it is.
If you don’t like “use of guns” in movies, I feel very bad for you. Some of the best movies of all time have vast use of guns. (i.e. Pulp Fiction, The Departed, Saving Private Ryan, Goodfellas, Gran Torino, The Boondock Saints, Reservoir Dogs, Full Metal Jacket.)
Simmsinns - May 9, 2010
Goodfellas is the only movie on that list that’s anything to write home about. Pulp Fiction is Tarrantino’s fourth best flick; The Departed is good, not great; Saving Private Ryan is flat-out awful; Gran Torino was good, but nowhere near as good as Unforgiven or The Bridges of Madison County; Boondock Saints is worse than Private Ryan; Reservoir Dogs is Tarrantino’s third best flick; and Full Metal Jacket is the worst movie Kubrick ever made.

Mostly agree with your post, except I like the Departed more than you. Kill Bill is my favorite Tarantino movie, not sure how you are ranking them.
Roger Dorn - May 9, 2010
I like The Departed a good bit, just not to the degree where I’d consider it as one of the ‘best movies of all time’.
I’d rank QTs films as follows:
1. Jackie Brown / Inglorious Basterds (tie)
3. Reservoir Dogs
4. Pulp Fiction
5. Kill Bill (vols. 1 & 2)
6. Death Proof Car
The Kill Bill movies are probably a bit better than my estimation of them, but I don’t know which movie I’d bump to move them up the list.
golanbatrac - May 9, 2010
Personally, I thought Reservoir Dogs and Pulp fiction had much better scripts and were more interesting to me than Jackie brown. You know what, I want to vote for the movie where Nazi’s die, and it was one of his better movies, but I just can’t put it up there…and btw, I am jewish and loved that movie…
I would put Pulp, Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, Basterds (close behind brown) and Kill Bill (close behind basterds).
Either way, I still think tarantino does a lot of good movies.
I do like the departed but agree to an extent. i think it is one of the better movies of its type this past decade, but history it is not great…it is good, but not up there with goodfellas, etc..
bross09 - May 9, 2010
Mine goes Kill Bill, Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown, IB
Roger Dorn - May 9, 2010
1. Pulp Fiction, 2. Reservoir Dogs, 3. Inglourious Basterds, 4. Kill Bill
Simmsinns - May 9, 2010
I thought Inglorious Bastards one of the worst movies I have ever seen.
But don’t put too much stock in that, I think Quentin Tarentino is a complete hack.
Bernie19Kosar - May 10, 2010
I’m guessing good dialog isn’t much of a necessity for films you like?
Simmsinns - May 10, 2010
This is my opinion on QT.
Good dialog? A crap load of talking for the sake of talking doesn’t make it great dialog to me.
I believe that most people think QT is great, because he is the “cool” director (not saying this is the case with you). If you don’t think QT is walking, talking, film perfection you are somehow an idiot or you “don’t understand his greatness”.
What I do understand is the fact that every time I watch one of his movies, I want to light myself on fire an hour in. The worst part about this is that I really like parts of his movies.
Why does he have to have eleventy billion characters and story lines in every movie? We are talking about 90-120 minutes here. I don’t have time, nor the want, to learn 45 different people. Why not develop 5-6 great characters?
Kill Bill was a car wreck. It should have been one movie.
Wanted to set myself on fire during From Duck ’til Dawn
Wanted to set myself on fire during Hero
Wanted to set myself on fire during Natural Born Killers
Wanted to set myself on fire during True Romance
Wanted to set myself on fire during the 15 minutes I watched of Grindhouse/what ever the hell the other movie was
Didn’t see Jackie Brown.
The one that really pisses me off was Inglorious Bastards. After the opening scene I was expecting a war movie about Brad Pitt and Christoph Waltz. Instead I get some half assed movie that somehow has rewritten history. Freaking Brilliant. The two best characters in the movie were cut off at the knees. It could have been a really cool movie. Instead it was a complete waste of time.
If you dig QT, cool. But for me, I have never walked out of one of his movies and said “that was worth it”.
Bernie19Kosar - May 10, 2010
I understand how you may not like his stuff…and really everyone has their own opinion.
yes, this is the attitude of many tarrantino fans. I do not believe everything he touches turns to gold. I do however like some of his earlier movies a lot (resevoir dogs, pulp fiction).
Tarantino’s style does not appease everyone. I do not even think this in a condescending way. I can see how someone can dislike his films too.
Some people may think he walks on water, but he just doesn’t. very few directors do, or even come up with a great movie every time. I will admit my favorite directors, the coen brothers, have come up with some stinkers. the only guy where I can say they never had a “terrible” film was Kubrick (though I wasn’t a fan of eyes wide shut).
that attitude annoys me too…
bross09 - May 10, 2010
The movies you wanted to set yourself on fire for were not directed by Tarantino. He actually had little to nothing to do with Hero other than purchasing and distributing the movie in the US.
Roger Dorn - May 10, 2010
And he hates Natural Born Killers. There’s very little left of his script in the final cut of the film.
golanbatrac - May 10, 2010
Zombie waterfowl?
golanbatrac - May 10, 2010
Nah, it’s on the outdoor channel.
Crazy Ray - May 10, 2010
I could not disagree more with EVERYTHING you said in that comment.
Simmsinns - May 9, 2010
I wonder which of his films you think are better? I really liked Basterds but nowhere near that much.
what about it? The unique story? the great characters? the most accurate movie portrayal of WWII done in hollywood?
a) I disagree about Madison country…completely.
b) unforgiven was brilliant.
I guess by this theory, there is no point in watching Heat or Ronin (both great movies) because De niro was better in goodfellas and raging bull. Yes, Unforgiven is better, but Gran Torino was a great eastwood flick.
I do agree with you on boondock saints though…
I thought full metal jacket was brilliant. It delves into the minds and psyche’s of soldiers. It definitely wasn’t his worst film though. I couldn’t stand Eyes Wide Shut…and just b/c everything he does is brilliant doesn’t mean a movie is terrible b/c it isn’t his best.
bross09 - May 9, 2010
Gran Torino was fantastic.

Brownie's Year - May 9, 2010
I’ll agree the first 30min is really dull, but it does get better after that if you can force yourself thru the intial dull part.
Kimble_79 - May 9, 2010
I don’t know what any of you are talking about… the bit with Liev Schreiber that opened IB was fantastic!
golanbatrac - May 9, 2010
The beginning and the bar scene were the best parts. Hated the end.
Roger Dorn - May 9, 2010
Agree.
Disagree.
golanbatrac - May 9, 2010
I loved all of it. But don’t put it even close to either of Pulp Fiction (the second greatest movie of all time, IMO, behind only Fight Club) or Reservoir Dogs.
Simmsinns - May 10, 2010
I think Shawshank Redemption is the greatest movie of all time. two and three are the Bill and Ted movies, in any order. The Godfather has also got to be up there.
notthatnoise - May 11, 2010
Shawshank Redemption is up there for me for sure, it’s an incredible movie. But personal tastes have Pulp Fiction, Fight Club and probably The Departed as my top 3.
Simmsinns - May 11, 2010
The Departed above The Godfather, or even Goodfellas?
notthatnoise - May 11, 2010
Goodellas is probably directly after The Departed.
Simmsinns - May 11, 2010
???
I love the departed, more than many…but seriously? besides you, pretty much the consensus opinion is that Goodfellas is much better and may be Scorcese’s greatest movie. public opinion is not always 100% right, but there is something to be said if everyone independently shares the same opinion.
bross09 - May 11, 2010
In this case, it cannot be right or wrong. It’s a matter of opinion, and I loved them both, a lot. But I’m sticking with The Departed.
Simmsinns - May 11, 2010
I watched both The Departed by the Kongers and by the Americans. Equally good. Fantastic storyline.
skipkirk - May 11, 2010
yep. I agree. you are entitled to your opinion and movies really are just opinion. I might not agree about the departed, but I understand where you are coming from…i just don’t agree, though I don’t object to you having that opinion.

gahnki - May 11, 2010
I love Usual Suspects, don’t get me wrong. I don’t put it anywhere near the top movies of all time.
Roger Dorn - May 11, 2010
The Usual Suspects is an okay movie, but it wouldn’t even make my top 1000.
golanbatrac - May 11, 2010
I can already tell from your previous infamous post that we have very different tastes in movies, so I’m certain my top 100 would look quite different from yours.
Simmsinns - May 11, 2010
Definitely.
golanbatrac - May 11, 2010
Not going to lie, my favorite movie is Titanic.
I took a film class this semester. It was fun, except I hated the westerns we watched.

Buckeye Brad - May 11, 2010
it starts off slow, but definitely pays off. its a long movie. resevoir dogs wasn’t an extremely faced paced movie either…(another tarrantino flick)
bross09 - May 9, 2010
Maybe I should give it another try.
Brownie's Year - May 9, 2010
I did the same thing you did, then my buddy talked me into trying it again. Much better after the first 30min.
Kimble_79 - May 10, 2010
Inglorious Basterds was great. You’re right, you should give it another try.
StuckInPa - May 9, 2010
See above.
Remember when they were going to shoot that German soldier who had surrendered and the translator guy talked them out of it. And then later that same German soldier stabs the Jewish soldier. And then later that same German soldier surrenders again, to the translator, and the translator shoots him while he is unarmed and has his hands in the air? Remember all of that? Ten years later Dick Cheney would make the same argument that Spielberg makes here to excuse extraordinary rendition and the torture of prisoners, and to justify the suspension of habeus corpus and the gutting of the Geneva conventions.
Though technically dazzling (especially the first 30 or so minutes), SPR is ultimately little more than a modern day Leni Riefenstahl film. Genre porn masquerading as a celebration of the ‘greatest generation’. As propaganda it’s a first rate example, but to call it a great film is to ignore the content of the film.
It’s probably Eastwood’s best film.
It too is probably Eastwood’s best film.
Ummm… I’m talking about films that Eastwood directed. You’re talking about films that DeNiro acted in. There’s a difference.
To say that GT wasn’t as good as Unforgiven or TBoMC isn’t to say that it’s no good (clearly it is a good flick). But in a discussion of the ‘best movies of all time’, to say that it’s, at best, the third best film Eastwood has made is to pretty much eliminate it from the conversation.
Awful movie. Two hours of my life that I’ll never get back.
Meh (though I never said that it was terrible, just that Kubrick has made, what, a dozen better films).
And don’t sell Eyes Wide Shut short. It’s his most personal film, and the culmination of everything he did from A Clockwork Orange on. Watch it again, only watch it as if it were a David Lynch film. It’s the synthesis of all of the themes in his earlier work. Kubrick’s id on full display.
golanbatrac - May 9, 2010
this is a terrible argument to say a movie is bad.
I go into movies with an objective mind, however I didn’t find propoganda in SPR. I thought the content was very good.
I guess we will just have to agree to disagree on Bridges of Madison country, Eyes Wide Shut, and Full Metal Jacket.
bross09 - May 9, 2010
Criticizing a film’s content is verboten? What makes it a great film then? Spielberg makes the case for the inhumane treatment of POWs in SPR. He states clearly that the only possible answer to violence is violence; that no matter how low the enemy goes, we should lower ourselves to that level and are justified in doing so. This is explicitly stated in SPR. That Cheney & Co. a decade later would use the same argument to excuse and justify what should rightfully be war crimes is just icing on the cake.
Spielberg goes on to link pacifism (as represented by the translator) to the Holocaust (the death of the Jewish soldier at the hands of the German soldier). Pacifism is an implicit cause of the holocaust in SPR.
The only way you can call SPR a great film is either to ignore the content of the film altogether, or to be in agreement with the content as presented. I sincerely hope that it’s the former, because you have to be a pretty horrible human being to be in agreement with the latter.
golanbatrac - May 9, 2010
when does he do this?
pretty irrelevant to the movie IMO…unless they explicitly referenced the movie. a similar scenario would saying jesus condoned the crusades because the people killed in his name…totally irrelevant scenarios…
again…jumping to conclusions much???
you should check out the scrotie mcboogerballs episode of south park…it seriously sounds like you have overanalyzed this more than anyone in history and found things that just aren’t there.
Every film is not a masters level english class. not every single thing in movies is a message, allegory, or symbol.
honestly, either you are smarter than the rest of the human population which hasn’t come to the same conclusions as you or you have overanalyzed this movie ad nauseum.
bross09 - May 10, 2010
I’ve explained it twice now.
Again, that Cheney would make the same argument that Spielberg makes is not the basis of my criticism. That Spielberg would make that argument in the first place is what is being criticized.
It’s all there on screen. Being observant is not the same as jumping to conclusions.
You should read up on some of the reaction to SPR. My view of the film is far from unique.
golanbatrac - May 10, 2010
Fair enough. I can agree with that.
At the same time, I watched that movie with an observant eye and came up with different conclusions and couldn’t really see at first where you got yours.
you may be right in this regard, but I couldn’t find any all that easily.
Also, just a final point. many people can see something a bit different in a movie and I can respect that. I guess now you have explained it more, I do understand more where you are coming from and what you see, I just don’t agree and don’t personally see these things in the movie. I don’t think that makes either of us right or wrong…both are really just an opinion. In the realm of movies, I do not see there being a defined right and wrong.
bross09 - May 10, 2010
You’re getting close. Visually it’s a masterpiece. Its content is dubious.
joeee - May 10, 2010
I think this analysis is fascinating and well done. The scenes with the German POW are high drama for the audience, but I think we can also rightly assume Spielberg is smart enough to understand the significance of that presentation. (If this is mere storytelling, then Spielberg isn’t nearly as smart as we all think he probably is.) At the same time, Spielberg is capturing some of the worst of war, including what amounts to a war crime.
This is a pretty broad stroke here; too broad I would say. Pacifism in the face of the Nazi German war machine? I’m not buying it.
Western Reserve - May 10, 2010
Exactly. You have to take the film at face value. Spielberg is too skilled a craftsman to give more than a passing consideration to the thought that maybe he somehow lost control of the material. If it’s on screen, you can bet that he intended for it to be on screen.
I don’t think you can make excuses for Spielberg by claiming that he’s trying to capture the brutal realities of war (if that’s what you’re getting at here) any more than you can downgrade a film like Inglorious Basterds or The Thin Red Line because it’s ‘made up’.
To quote Todd Solondz Storytelling script: “Once you start writing, it ALL becomes fiction.”
Pacifist might be a misnomer. I was using ’pacifist as shorthand for the character of the translator as presented on screen.
golanbatrac - May 10, 2010
so he is a terrible person if he wants to portray this? from what I got of it, he is neither condemning or condoning killing german POWs but just pointing it out there that it happened and you have to make the judgements for yourself if you would do it or not. I do not believe that this severely detracts from it…just like I do not believe the scene where Captain Spiers shoots prisoners in Band of Brothers detracts from it.
I think the key message being sent is “War is Hell”
bross09 - May 10, 2010
Saving Private Ryan is my favorite movie. I died a lil’ when you said that. :(’’’’’’’’
Brownie's Year - May 9, 2010
One of my favorites as well.
TheRealSlimShady - May 9, 2010
But I didn’t think it was as good as Black Hawk Down.
TheRealSlimShady - May 10, 2010
I was talking about the use of guns with teenagers who are supposed to be portraying nerds in costumes to an otherwise young audience. I don’t see the correlation between guns and their characters
SpecialBrownie - May 9, 2010
This is NOT a film for young audiences! DO NOT take anyone who is not mature enough to accept violence to this film. It is rated R for a reason. This is NOT a kids movie. Please don’t take 10 year olds or younger to this film expecting a Spider-Man like movie.
This movie was intended for adults, and it entertains that market.
Simmsinns - May 9, 2010
I meant young as in pre – teen to adult.
SpecialBrownie - May 9, 2010
And again, the nerds don’t use guns.
Simmsinns - May 9, 2010
You forgot The Usual Suspects.
JustBob - May 10, 2010
Additional comment: (This doesn’t spoil anything) There is a lot of gun use, but none of it is by the nerds in the film. The nerd (Kick-Ass) uses batons/billy clubs.

TheRealSlimShady - May 9, 2010
Nice outlook.
Brownie's Year - May 9, 2010

yes, that is what he is saying. Asante being the guy playing at a higher level than Ward.
Kimble_79 - May 10, 2010
Please don’t make this more complicated than it is. I just think Asante will be better even though it seems like more people like Ward at the moment.

Bernie19Kosar - May 11, 2010
Best video game ever is either Grand Theft Auto 4 or Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots.
Simmsinns - May 11, 2010
again, two hugely overrated games. don’t get me wrong, GTA 4 was great, the best in the series, but any game that forces you to do that much boring stuff between the fun isn’t the greatest game ever.
MGS 4 is great if you have played all the other MGS games, but it doesn’t stand on its own.
notthatnoise - May 12, 2010
I’m not sure what you found boring in GTA. Sure, there is boring stuff, but that is by choice, it doesn’t get in the way of the real fun, which is progressing the story, which is extremely engaging. I’ve never had a video game pull me into the story like that. I felt like I was Nico Bellic, I actually felt for characters in the game. (Minor Spoiler Alert) When they took Nico’s cousin, I was legitimately angry at those responsible, and was ready to burn there sh*t down to the ground. THAT is exactly what I want from a video game.
MGS 4 can stand on it’s own, and it does. I’ve only played the first Metal Gear Solid on the old PSone, before trying MGS 4. And the memories were faint. I still thoroughly enjoyed it because it’s an absolutely incredible game. Ground breaking even. There’s a point in that game where you are literally exhausted for a particular reason due to the action the Character is trying to pull off, that I won’t go into detail about. It’s not annoying however, it fits perfectly. If I played through it again I could make a massive on things this game knocks out of the park.
But I can take your comment with a grain of salt knowing it comes from some one with The Elder Scrolls III, AoE 2, and Skate in is top 5 of all time. I’m sure you’ll do the same. We have completely different tastes. But still, that list just seems like a very strange list for best of all time.

notthatnoise - May 13, 2010
GTA 4 couldn’t decide whether it wanted to be gritty and dark or fun and over the top like the previous games. I hear people rave about the story, but i felt it was predictable and full of holes.
MSG 4 was better than GTA, but i still feel like it was too in love with itself. I get that it was trying to tie up all the loose ends from previous games, but i still found it too self-referential.
notthatnoise - May 12, 2010
and my list isn’t any stranger than GTA IV or MGS 4 being the best game ever.
notthatnoise - May 12, 2010
I agree. I felt like GTA 4 couldn’t make up its mind like the others.
bross09 - May 12, 2010
Here is mine:
1. FFVII. Played the hell out of this game. Wasted enough time to kill all the weapons. Massive amounts of time.
2. Modern Warfare. Could not stop playing this game online. Massive amounts of time wasted. (Sense a theme?)
3. Madden 2004. The best football game ever played. Room mates and I played it consistently. The week where we all took a team from the NFC East and did franchises was epic.
4. Suikoden. Another RPG classic that was freaking sweet.
5. Oregon Trail. Yeah, I said it.
Thank you all for letting me be a nerd.
Bernie19Kosar - May 11, 2010
bross09 - May 11, 2010
Dude, when Halo: Reach comes out, it might top my charts. Halo: CE is at the top right now. Such a classic.
SpecialBrownie - May 11, 2010
the first Halo game is the best of the series, for sure.
notthatnoise - May 12, 2010
The first Suikoden is unreal. I loved that game so much I recruited all 108 people.
Adrock2099 - May 11, 2010
Strong.
Bernie19Kosar - May 12, 2010
since i’ve been dishing out a lot of hate i should probably put out my favorites.
1. Morrowind. better than oblivion in every way except the casting system. much better story, environment, and character progression. with the gigantic mod community the fun never stops. new mods are still posted daily.
2. Age of Empires 2. i played the hell out of this. very balanced, more diverse than other RTSs out there. forces you to focus on economy as well as combat.
3. Knights of the Old Republic. My favorite video game story ever. easily the best Star Wars game I’ve ever played, and to a SW nerd that means a lot.
4. Skate. best skateboarding game. when the THPS series was getting more and more arcade style the down to earth nature of Skate was a breath of fresh air.
5. Mass Effect series. this is a cop out, i know. neither game belongs on this list individually, but taken together, they do. I feel less bad putting them here because the second game can be looked at as a direct continuation of the first, with your save carrying over and everything.
notthatnoise - May 12, 2010
you could say that Starcraft is the best RTS out there…the argument can be made. I do however like AOE better.
I disagree though on Knights of the Old Republic. Wasn’t in love with the gameplay. never really liked the storyline all that much.
but overall, not a bad list.
bross09 - May 12, 2010
SC is easily the best, there is no argument to made for AOE being a better game. You’re of course free to like it better, though.
The DragonAge games are pretty cool.
danvail - May 13, 2010
I liked dragon age a lot, but in the end i guess i just feel like i’m overloaded on traditional fantasy. there wasn’t a ton new brought to dragon age. still elves and dwarves and all the prototypical classes.
notthatnoise - May 13, 2010
I think starcraft is the best but I also haven’t played AOE for ages…
bross09 - May 13, 2010
star craft is just a slaughterfest. like i said in my original post, AOE forces you to build and manage your economy, starcraft does not. I actually liked Warcraft 3 better than star craft.
That said, the 3 are probably tied, and which one comes out on top is a matter of personal preference.
notthatnoise - May 13, 2010
yeah…Like I said, I haven’t played AOE for a while and also have a place in my heart for starcraft. I would probably like AOE better honestly but I need to get a copy.
I also liked Command and Conquer which was a lot like Starcraft but in a way, even less strategy and economy managing.
personally, my favorite is Civilization, however that is turn based and not a RTS game. That game is the penultimate game with managing an economy and just controlling cities and such.
bross09 - May 13, 2010
I love the Civ series. Just started playing the Colonization version of Civ4. Quite engrossing.
danvail - May 14, 2010
yeah. Civ is awesome. that literally took over my life senior year. I finished like 10 games…and you probably understand how long it takes to finish one.
bross09 - May 14, 2010
I prefer the combat heaviness of SC over a more reserved approach. I also hated the limited size of armies in War3.
One more series worth mentioning is the Total Annihilation and it’s successor Supreme Commander.
THAT is a slugfest. Epically large fights.
danvail - May 14, 2010
man its been a while since there has been a great RTS. and yes Civ 4 rules.
notthatnoise - May 15, 2010
+1
Civ Anything rules.
bross09 - May 15, 2010
gotta be careful, Civilization: call to power sucked, but that was after the studio split.
notthatnoise - May 15, 2010
My favorite RPGs:
1. Xenogears (psone)
The best RPG ever. Ridiculously deep gameplay. The only game I ever made money on (bought for $45 dollars, sold on ebay 5 years later for $110).
2. FF II (SNES)
The best of the FF series. I played the hell out of this game. It’s a lot like FFIII, only shorter and more linear.
3. DragonWarrior (NES)
Short and sweet. Can be finished in a couple of afternoons. The first videogame RPG I ever played. For a level 22 nerd who spent much of the 80’s rolling dice and drawing dungeon maps on graph paper, this game was the shit.
4. Final Fantasy Legend (GB)
Another short and sweet RPG. All the FF goodness without any of the filler.
5. Shenmue (Dreamcast)
This game is all filler. A skinner box inside of a skinner box. Still it was beautiful to look at and loads of fun to play.
Of course this entire list changes if you stretch the term RPG to include the Zelda games.
golanbatrac - May 12, 2010
Shenmue was horrible. Maybe I’m biased since I played it when I was young and it required a lot for a young mind to comprehend
The Licensed Pessimist - May 12, 2010
I can absolutely see where someone wouldn’t like it. It impressed the hell out of me at the time though.
Skies of Arcadia is another good RPG for the Dreamcast.
golanbatrac - May 12, 2010
Is Xenogears really worth that much?
I stopped playing it because I think I messed up my save. That card game was cool.
rufio - May 13, 2010
It was a hard to find game at one time. I think it’s been rereleased a couple of times since.
Xenogears on ebay
Looks like the used price has dropped a good bit, but sealed copies are still pretty expensive.
golanbatrac - May 13, 2010
Also, ever played Shining Force for Sega?
rufio - May 13, 2010
No. Is it a good one? It’s apparently available on the Wii Virtual Console.
golanbatrac - May 13, 2010
I enjoyed it, it was turn-based but also included movement, much like Wesnoth. I really liked the battle systems.
I was < 13 when I last played it through.
rufio - May 13, 2010
these are all before my time, and as i said earlier, i’m just not a huge fan of JRPGs.
notthatnoise - May 13, 2010
What’s a JRPG?
golanbatrac - May 13, 2010
Japanese style RPG.
turn based combat, usually pretty linear.
the FF series are all good examples of JRPGs while something like Neverwinter Nights or the Elder Scrolls series are prototypical western RPGs.
notthatnoise - May 13, 2010
I couldn’t figure what the J was. I prefer the linear style RPGs myself.
golanbatrac - May 13, 2010
Interactive RPG for me. Where the story changes to you, not in a predetermind story line.
SpecialBrownie - May 13, 2010
this…that way you can play it different every time.
Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010
exactly. i love the infinite replayability of western RPGs. I’ve had dozens of different types of characters in morrowind over literally hundreds of hours. never a dull moment.
notthatnoise - May 13, 2010
he best linear RPG I ever played was Siberia for Xbox.
SpecialBrownie - May 13, 2010
I’ll have to check that one out. Never played it
Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010
I’ve never even heard of that. some research is in order.
notthatnoise - May 15, 2010
.
I am not a big video game guy- haven’t touched one in a year and a half- but Morrowind sucked the life out of me. I was so obsessed with that game that all I could think about was going back to Morrowind. Much darker than Oblivion and much more engrossing. It doesn’t have much competition as, again, I’m not a big video game player, but I find it hard to imagine that there’s a better game out there.
gahnki - May 12, 2010
Dude, When I played Morrowind it was done. Oblivion was nice because of the controls and graphics of course but Morrowind was just so much more extensive. It also had more glitches. I love Morrowind.
SpecialBrownie - May 12, 2010
Oblivion ate my summer last year, can’t even think about buying anything like that again. Between football and that, I’d never see the outdoors.
rufio - May 13, 2010
if you liked oblivion you owe it to yourself to get morrowind. you can get the game of the year edition which comes with both expansions for like $20. of course, you could get it all for free too…
notthatnoise - May 13, 2010
on a Mac? I wouldn’t even consider that as being possible.
rufio - May 13, 2010
ah, i see. it came out for the original xbox, but its a far lesser experience on a console. you ever consider installing a partition and loading windows? i don’t mean just for morrowind either.
notthatnoise - May 13, 2010
I always played Morrowind and Oblivion on Xbox. It was still pretty epic.
SpecialBrownie - May 13, 2010
i did originally, but then i lost my morrowind disk and bought the pc version. i couldn’t go back. The mods just make it too much fun.
notthatnoise - May 15, 2010
Oblivion was nice, the story was too easy but of course, the game is still vastly unsolved even when the story is done. You must play Morrowind. That is #2 on my list behind H:CE.
SpecialBrownie - May 13, 2010
I still haven’t gotten to the story in Oblivion. Trying to level up in the correct way first. Also joining all the guilds.
rufio - May 13, 2010
thats the most fun way to go about it imo. I never thought it was much fun to abuse the levelling system.
notthatnoise - May 13, 2010
Well, of course. I never abused it. I’m the leader of all the guilds. I was accidentally kicked out of the thieves and fighter’s for accidentally killing each one respectively in a cave. I got back in though. And the gifts they give you for being leader are epic. Being a Vampire was sweet but after a while, I actually wanted to be out in the sun. I’ve also found most of the elven and medieval castles. I rocked the ebony armour and sword from killing a warrior in one of the elven ruins right outside Imperial city. The armour never failed. I then added strength and invisibility charms to the armour. I was invincible.
SpecialBrownie - May 13, 2010
Wow, never got into these types of games, but this sounds sweet.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
I hated being a vampire.
rufio - May 13, 2010
It was cool to a point. It was a bitch finding the damn gems. I just ended up stealing mine from the Mages guild because I was awesome at lock picking and any thing is allowed to be stolen if you’re part of the guild. I then killed the woman, enchanted the gems, then enchanted my armour. If I ever needed blood, I just sucked the blood from the maid in one of my homes. The mission that sucks is finding all the damn roots for the potion maker. Like 20 plants equals like the smallest bottle of the potion!
SpecialBrownie - May 14, 2010
The nirnroot?
I was trying to find all of those. There are maps online of where they are.
rufio - May 14, 2010
DAMN NIRNROOT! Of course they grow back after awhile from being picked. I’d randomly find a few behind meadow rocks, I found a few at the pond he tells you to go to. Then I found a crap load walking the whole bank of the moat and river. Also found tons of caves and treasure.
SpecialBrownie - May 14, 2010
man now i gotta go play oblivion again. I’ve never tried being a vampire.
notthatnoise - May 15, 2010
They are all over the place. Mostly near coastlines.
rufio - May 15, 2010
This comment is blasphemous
The Licensed Pessimist - May 11, 2010
VII was the last of the FF games that I actually enjoyed. I prefer the older ones (FFII for the SNES being the best of the bunch) and pretty much stick to the game boy for RPGs these days.
golanbatrac - May 11, 2010
I used to collect original NES stuff for quite some time. I had something like 300+ games and several unopened NES systems. I ended up selling everything on ebay not too long ago. Got a little over a $1000 for everything.
Kimble_79 - May 11, 2010
speaking of game boy RPGs, gotta love the pokemon series.
notthatnoise - May 11, 2010
A bit after my time, but I’ve heard that they’re pretty good.
golanbatrac - May 11, 2010
if you can block out the massive hype that the cards and tv series had amongst young kids a few years ago, the games are really good. unfortunately, much is lost playing on an emulator, as you can’t trade and timed events don’t occur.
notthatnoise - May 11, 2010
Never tried them.
Bernie19Kosar - May 11, 2010
One time my entire family was dragged to Williamsburg, VA, strictly because my mom wanted to go. We had already been, and my older brother and I were like 13 and 16, so we stayed at the hotel and took turns playing my little brother’s Pokemon on gameboy. It wasn’t bad.
danvail - May 12, 2010
I liked III on SNES, I don’t know if I ever played II. I didn’t own an SNES until like 97.
SNES had some awesome RPGs.
rufio - May 11, 2010
you can get them now for the GameBoy. I think II is now called IV and III is called V to bring them into line with the Japanese numbering.
golanbatrac - May 11, 2010
DS also I believe.
Bernie19Kosar - May 11, 2010
Chrono Trigger?
rufio - May 12, 2010
I’m not sure if I’ve played that one or not. I know I didn’t play it on the SNES, but I’m pretty sure I played FF Chronicles, which is the same game, I think.
golanbatrac - May 12, 2010
It was money on SNES. I also feel like I loved Legend of Mana, but it’s been a long time.
rufio - May 13, 2010
Yeah, the FF related games all kind of blend together after ten years. I’ve probably played them all, but couldn’t tell you which Mana game or Chronicles game was which.
golanbatrac - May 13, 2010
since this was before my time, have you ever played secrets of mana?
notthatnoise - May 12, 2010
I heart Secret of Mana. And Legend of Mana for the Playstation. Man, Squaresoft used to be freaking AWESOME.
Adrock2099 - May 12, 2010
See my comment above. I mixed up the names of the Manas, but I played the one on SNES.
rufio - May 13, 2010
I love that our football forum is so full of nerds.
notthatnoise - May 13, 2010
I have some pretty nerdy tendencies. I was always too jock-y to be a nerd, to nerdy to be a jock, and so on.
rufio - May 13, 2010
Hurray for stereotype busting.
(Deus Ex for me, please.)
RelapsingDawgCatcher - May 13, 2010
Best PC game I have ever played. Probably a top 3 game for any system. It is that good.
Adrock2099 - May 13, 2010
oh man that game was awesome. the sequel wasn’t half bad either. did you hear they’re making a third?
notthatnoise - May 13, 2010
I did. DE 2 really wasn’t bad – not as good as the original, but it didn’t inspire the hate in me that it did in some. It’ll be interesting to see where they go with the new one.
Of course, I tend to run significantly behind on video card technology, so unless I break down and go crazy, I’ll probably be playing it a year or two after it comes out. Game of the Year Edition?
RelapsingDawgCatcher - May 14, 2010
man i hope so. I freaking love that game. I also think its coming out for consoles so thats an option if you have one.
notthatnoise - May 15, 2010
sure this isn’t you SB?
Kimble_79 - May 10, 2010
I’ve seen his pic. That’s not him.

SpecialBrownie - May 10, 2010
Yeah. On the receiving end.
Western Reserve - May 10, 2010
Man, I just knew rufio’s comment was a bad idea.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - May 10, 2010
then i guess i better cancel my upcoming post about sausage?
Dawg Nuts - May 10, 2010
I’m afraid so, DN. If anyone is planning a “Trains and Tunnels” series, that one is probably ill-advised too.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - May 10, 2010
the new one is awful
notthatnoise - May 11, 2010
I like the new approach.
It needed some new aspects.
Bernie19Kosar - May 11, 2010
the entire point of turn based combat is that you can be more strategic. why bother with it if you can’t control every party member?
its also incredibly linear, even for a JRPG.
notthatnoise - May 12, 2010
I am only about half way through, I am waiting for the game to open up.
Bernie19Kosar - May 12, 2010
it doesn’t.
notthatnoise - May 12, 2010
I only read the first four words of everyones comments.
Bernie19Kosar - May 10, 2010

TheRealSlimShady - May 10, 2010
yeah, thats not allowed.
Brownie's Year - May 10, 2010
This is a completely different thread.
Let’s not hijack this one also.
Let it go.
Bernie19Kosar - May 10, 2010
I gotta admit – I thought Evan Moore looked great. I hope he gets a fair shot at TE.
realmccoy - May 9, 2010 via mobile
I feel the point in a movie is to entertain me for a couple hours. For this reason, I enjoy most movies. I don’t see a point in picking apart a movie, and what especially bugs the hell out of me is comparing a sequel to its predecessor. I can’t understand why you would expect the same movie.
I thought Iron Man 2 was great. Whether or not you feel you should money on the theater is up to you. I for one love going to the theater to see a movie. It’s a different environment. No way you’re going to have a screen that size in your house, or the volume as loud as it is (I know, duh). It’s like going to a game intstead of watching it at home (ok, so not exactly, but you get my point).
Oh, Kick-Ass was awesome as well. Big Daddy and Hit Girl were great.
StuckInPa - May 9, 2010
A completely respectable point of view, IMO. What I think it’s easy to forget is that some people get that same enjoyment out of the ‘picking apart’ process too. A different kind of entertainment, that.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - May 10, 2010
If I had like an expansion team, I´d be looking at Evan Moore, Mike Furrey, and maybe even Mohamad Massaquoi eventually if you don´t want them.
mooncamping - May 10, 2010
I will grant you Mike Furrey. I need to be compensated if you want Moore or the Mogwai Massacre.
Roger Dorn - May 10, 2010
dont know…Furrey wears several hats. Maybe we should get some compensation for him as well.
Kimble_79 - May 10, 2010
Cool, Furrey is the Classic Flanker. What kind of compensation are you imagining?
mooncamping - May 11, 2010
“Classic” in that he’d be good in the days before football was integrated?
Western Reserve - May 11, 2010
It’s less about pre-intergration and more about the game being played in black and white stopmotion. He does an excellent “robot” as well.
danvail - May 11, 2010
Naw, have ye all forgotten about thee Freaky Flanker. A slot-back such as Leonard Weaver, Marshawn Lynch, Steven Jackson or Larry Johnson?
Classic Flanker is a guy like Hines Ward, Robert Royal or Wes Welker, a crafty underneath guy.
mooncamping - May 12, 2010
Just about the only way I can place Royal in a category with Welker and Ward is to classify them as “guys at whom footballs were thrown while being payed.”
Crafty underneath guy ≠Royal
danvail - May 12, 2010
Sorry, didn’t realize you were speaking in “moonenclature.”
Western Reserve - May 12, 2010

Well, first of all, I guess we´ll see how they do. And then if they become burdensome or extras on the Browns, maybe we can talk some players.
mooncamping - May 12, 2010
I’m interested in what might be the name of your expansion team, Moon.
And how many years before they reach the playoffs?

The Saskatchewan Fullbacks
SpecialBrownie - May 10, 2010
I think moon is german, so…The Frankfurt Fraleys

Ohio isn’t a country either.
golanbatrac - May 10, 2010

Kimble_79 - May 10, 2010
yep. neither is holland. holland is to netherlands as Ohio (or maybe more apt the midwest) is to the US.

Yeah I was thinking Bill Murray was mad at Ramis or something. I just remembered everyone was blaming Murray for holding the movie up and I thought it was over a disagreement with Ramis.
Villeslgr - May 13, 2010
Community is a great show. Opinions?
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
It’s good, but I wouldn’t say great. It can be very funny and entertaining at times but other times it’s just stupid (like almost anything involving their Spanish professor).
Buckeye Brad - May 13, 2010
The Spanish teacher can be stupid, but a lot of times I do find him funny. And of course I think the best characters are Abed and Troy. You just don’t get that kind of comedy in other shows.
Of course being younger than you, I presume, we may very well have a different taste in comedy. Where as you think its, stupid, I think it’s hilarious.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
Yeah, Abed is a great character.
Just out of curiousity, how old do you think I am?
Buckeye Brad - May 13, 2010
I really don’t know. It was kind of a stupid assumption of me. I think I’ve seen that you mentioned you graduated OSU, so I figure you’re at least 23 or 24, which isn’t really that big a difference. I just kinda assumed I’m one of the younger guys here, which like I said, may be a stupid assumption.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
Oh, that’s not a problem. I’m actually 30 so I’m, like, really old!
Buckeye Brad - May 13, 2010
Ok. See about 30 was actually kind of what I was assuming. Go me.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
I think there’s a sizeable group of college age posters, a sizeable group of posters in their thirties, and a smattering of folks before, after and in-between.
Fifteen seems to be the bottom end of the ages. I don’t know what the top end is.
golanbatrac - May 13, 2010
This is what I’ve come to assume.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
30 is great isn’t it? I’m rolling over 31 this year, but I feel like I’m 21, only much, much more intelligent.
Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010
Must be nice. 19 blows. Car insurance is too expensive and I can’t purchase alcohol.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
I laughed out loud at this. I remember I turned 24 and got married in the same year and my insurance dropped like crazy (so hang in there). You live in PA which sucks even worse on the alcohol thing. I still can’t believe you just can’t drive to a gas station and buy beer there.
Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010
I know. If the beer distributor isn’t open you’re screwed.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
there’s a restaurant/bar at the end of my street that sells 6 and 12 packs. quite a savior at times.
Dawg Nuts - May 14, 2010
…Dude. 19 does indeed blow. I pay $120 a month for just liability.
SpecialBrownie - May 13, 2010
Wow, new car? I paid 79 for full coverage because I had a loan. But $120? I think mine’s going down to like 50 now because I paid off my loan.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
I have no idea who you guys use, but Allstate has always been good to me. My wife is anal about checking prices often too, and they are consistently the winner.
Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010
I have USAA. My mom is a veteran so I can use it, too.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
I pulled out a $2500 loan.
SpecialBrownie - May 14, 2010
I don’t own a car right now, but when I did, liability cost me $314 / year.
golanbatrac - May 14, 2010
rec…for also being 19 and understanding the suckitude. I did go to school near canada so that was nice…
bross09 - May 14, 2010
I’m 19 and i can buy alcohol, you just ahve to know where to look :)
notthatnoise - May 15, 2010
canada…
bross09 - May 15, 2010
shady gas station for me.
notthatnoise - May 15, 2010
I know what you mean; mentally, I still think I’m 23 or 24. Although physically I move like I’m 80 so that sucks.
Buckeye Brad - May 13, 2010
Yes, and hangovers are (no pun intended) literally starting to hurt more than they used to
Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010
Have you gotten to the point yet where you can remember when your parents were your age?
golanbatrac - May 14, 2010
I was 4 when my dad was 30 and 7 when my mom was that age, so not really.
Buckeye Brad - May 14, 2010
So you’re saying it gets better? Cause 29 sucks. I was never one for getting smashed but drinking now has almost no effect on me during the course of the evening, but when I wake up i feel like i got slammed by the Ultimate Warrior.
5 billion times.
Villeslgr - May 14, 2010
Rec for the Warrior reference.
Bernie19Kosar - May 14, 2010
ha, nice
Kimble_79 - May 16, 2010
I was fairly spot on with what i thought. I knew you were a teacher, but you didn’t seemed to be that old. I was thinking between 27-31.
bross09 - May 14, 2010
It’s gotta be Gabe Kaplan as Brad and zombie Andy Kauffman as moon. Call it BJ and the Bear: Deep Space Nine.

Nope. Freaky Flanker and the Moderated Moon in: The Asstastic Adventures.

Maybe like a white Bernie Mac, too.
mooncamping - May 14, 2010
I laughed so hard at that one.

mooncamping - May 12, 2010
Off base, but are you all ready to see LeBron play like he’s on fire?
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
Well, his elbow apparantly is and so is his ego, so he’s already halfway there.
SpecialBrownie - May 13, 2010
I am ready. The nervous, neurotic, abused Cleveland fan in me started to come out the past few days, but its gone now.
rufio - May 13, 2010

emily522 - May 13, 2010
I am just jaded at this point. Assuming the worst.
Roger Dorn - May 13, 2010
This is pretty much where I am at.
I am bracing for us to win game 6, and then come home and lose in epic fashion.
Hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
Bernie19Kosar - May 13, 2010
Everyone’s acting like it’s impossible for us to win tonight. It’s not impossible. Anything can happen. No one expected this situation unless you were a very hopeful Celtics fan going into this series probably.
emily522 - May 13, 2010
…You’re so naive. It’s cute in a sad puppy dog kind of way.
SpecialBrownie - May 13, 2010
They were down 4 then blew it.
Heartbreaks are so expected they just hurt less and less now :-/
I’m outta FTS before the trolls start coming!
emily522 - May 13, 2010
wow….wonder if Lebron is done in Cleveland? The most dominate player in NBA history and he just can’t seem to get to the big show. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a Cav’s fan, but going so far in the playoffs and losing is getting old. Sorry, just the frustration coming out.
Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010
I think it’s 50/50. Mike Browns is 100% fired though.
emily522 - May 13, 2010
Mike Brown was a MoP this series.
I might not take off my LeBron jersey until he says he is staying. And if he says he is leaving, I might have to never take it off.
rufio - May 13, 2010
…
I just posted a comment in another thread relating to your LeBron query.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
I feel sick.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
Peace out Mike Brown.
I just feel numb.
And f*ck ESPN for showing a montage of all of our heartbreaks. What the hell is that?
emily522 - May 13, 2010
ESPN can now reveal their secret love affair w/ Boston.
emily522 - May 13, 2010
All day long. They’ve been doing it all f*ing day.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
Well they’re in for a fun time when Orlando kills them.
emily522 - May 13, 2010
What sucks is that I hate Orlando and Boston. I’m not really a huge fan of any of the teams left.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
Agreed.
emily522 - May 13, 2010
Maybe they both implode with their suckiness?
SpecialBrownie - May 13, 2010

Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010

emily522 - May 13, 2010
Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010

StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
yes. I hate all boston teams and most boston fans with a burning passion. SCREW THE BRUINS…just had to put it out there. I do hate the lakers too and Stan Van just pisses me off. I hope the suns just win it all…nash is awesome…
bross09 - May 14, 2010
As a Flyers fan, I can’t agree more with “SCREW THE BRUINS.” God I hope game 7 doesn’t turn out like tonight. 2 nights in a row? I can’t handle that.
Disagree with the Suns part. I’m not sure I’ll be watching anymore playoff basketball.
StuckInPa - May 14, 2010
sorry…I am not much of a flyers fan…but I will root for them over the bruins…they knocked my sabres out…
I probably agree with you on playoff basketball…but at least one team is left I do not absolutely hate.
bross09 - May 14, 2010
The only team I would like to see win it all is the Suns.
rufio - May 14, 2010

Kimble_79 - May 14, 2010
Yes, my boy Jared Dudley is going to take it down.
Roger Dorn - May 14, 2010
I really wanted Dirk to get a championship, but now i’ll just have to root for Nash
notthatnoise - May 15, 2010
I hate Rondo the most
TheRealSlimShady - May 14, 2010
I hate Kenrick Perkins. Dude acts like he has never fouled another human his entire life.
Same goes for Dwight Howard. He clubs people, throws dirty elbows and then poops his pants when he is whistled.

emily522 - May 14, 2010
rec for Dwight pooping his pants.
notthatnoise - May 15, 2010
I don’t hate the Lakers so much. If anything, they’re the only team left I might watch. I am sick of seeing them in the Finals and winning, though. Enough is enough.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
Luckily for me the guy who was bugging me about this series the whole time wasn’t being a jerk when I texted him and was like “hey it’s my last day of high school tomorrow so say it now b/c i don’t want to deal w/ it tomorrow”.
LeBron or no LeBron: I still will root for the Cavs.
emily522 - May 13, 2010
Indeed. A Mo jersey is the best investment you’ll make now.
SpecialBrownie - May 13, 2010
LeBron’s not gone for sure. And if you think he is, just don’t even say it now.
emily522 - May 13, 2010
If you don’t care about Defense.
Sorry

I thought you were taking college classes at Clemson. College prep classes?
Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010
I’m at CU next year. I’m a senior in high school this year.
emily522 - May 13, 2010
I see
Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010
The Boston bandwagon FB statuses are making me puke.
Funny, there were none of those until after game 5.
emily522 - May 13, 2010
Fortunately I haven’t seen any of those. If anything the Cavs are the bandwagon to jump on here.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
Some of them are legit fans. But when you start proclaiming Rondo’s better than LeBron… really?
Maybe in this series. You can argue that. But overall? Please.
emily522 - May 13, 2010
Yea, I’d start raising hell if I were you.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
I don’t know those people that well. It’s like fine if you’re a legit fan, say whatever. But the band wagoners are pissing me off so much.
emily522 - May 13, 2010
Ahh, I see. That’s why I use my news feed lol.
StuckInPa - May 13, 2010
I don’t know if I would claim that even in this series. Lebron is probably the most dominant player since probably Jerry West to play in the NBA. I don’t even think Jordan would stand a chance against Lebron.
Kimble_79 - May 13, 2010
It’s best to avoid FB when your team loses. There’s always a bunch of JAs on it.
Villeslgr - May 14, 2010
Lets go Suns! Lets go Suns!
Bernie19Kosar - May 14, 2010
I don’t think I can watch basketball for the rest of the playoffs. Maybe I’ll watch the Suns to see them beat the Lakers, but there is no way in hell I’m watching the Magic-Celtics.
I just want to dig a hole in the ground and cry. I thought this season would be different — we improved our team so much from last year and our depth was so much better. We could play small, play big, whatever we needed to do. All year long Brian Windhorst was talking about how the Cavs are so hard to beat because of their versitility. I can’t believe what happened the last 3 games. it’s shocking. I know I should be used to this by now, after 30 years of this happening over and over again, but every year I get my hopes up and expect this year to be different. This sucks.
Buckeye Brad - May 14, 2010
Even worse, I am turning into Chuck and odradek.
Roger Dorn - May 14, 2010
That’s definitely not good.
Buckeye Brad - May 14, 2010
bross09 - May 14, 2010
There’s always next year…
assuming LBJ is coming back, because he is.
StuckInPa - May 14, 2010
The only place I worry about him bolting to is Chicago.
Rose, LBJ and Noah is a better 1-2-3 punch than he would have here.
Bernie19Kosar - May 14, 2010
I hate Noah.
StuckInPa - May 14, 2010
I honestly think the list goes:
1. Chicago
2. Cleveland/NY
3. Some other team
Maybe I’m reading too many articles, but I just feel like LeBron’s probably gone. I’ll still keep my 60/40 he leaves, but it’s looking a lot worse than that right now :(
But some think LeBron should stay…
emily522 - May 14, 2010
Ric Bucher on ESPN radio said today that he doesn’t see how LeBron can leave.
He said that it would have to be a sign and trade, which makes sense if LeBron wants the max amount, and any team willing to trade for LeBron, would have to give up too much for it to make any sense for him to go there.
He made me feel much better. I actually think it is 75/25 he stays.
Other than Chicago, I don’t see where it really makes sense for him.
Bernie19Kosar - May 14, 2010
I think he is seriously underestimating how much a team should be willing to give up to get the best player in the NBA.
Roger Dorn - May 15, 2010
But if a team has to give up too much for LeBron to go, he’ll face the same thing he’s had to in Cleveland: waiting for a supporting cast to be built.
Why go to NY and wait 3 seasons to get a supporting cast when we could contend again next year?
emily522 - May 15, 2010
Just wondering, but why hasn’t Phoenix been mentioned for a possible place for him to go?
TheRealSlimShady - May 15, 2010
…Because it’s not.
SpecialBrownie - May 15, 2010
Why not?
TheRealSlimShady - May 15, 2010
$$$$$$$$$$$
Bernie19Kosar - May 16, 2010
Because Lebron knows he could go to one of these places and do as well as he has been in Cleveland, which is reach the 2nd round or conference finals. I think we need to take a step back and realize that the Cavs aren’t so much better than these other teams now, and if you take Lebron off the team and put him on another it might be almost the same quality team he is going to.
Roger Dorn - May 15, 2010
the nets scare me more than they do most other people. Devin Harris, Lopez, and Yi would be pretty appealing.
notthatnoise - May 15, 2010
and a top pick
Villeslgr - May 15, 2010
TWill played good at the end of the year
TheRealSlimShady - May 15, 2010
This is a good point. The cavs without lebron are probably just as bad as the Knicks to tell you the truth.
The Licensed Pessimist - May 15, 2010
Cavs-Lebron>>Knicks. the only player that would definitely start on the cavs from the knicks is David Lee…galinari and Wilson chandler likely would not stat but would be key reserves (like hickson)
bross09 - May 16, 2010
Galinari would start for the Cavs.
Roger Dorn - May 16, 2010
probably. if you have a lineup with Jamison at the 4, Galinari would start at the 3. However, as of right now, Hickson>Gallinari. so maybe the lineup is hickson at the 4 and Jamison at the 3. Still, he can definitely start on certain lineups on the cavs.
Wilson Chandler does a lot of the same things as Gallinari (both SF/PF with an outside game but little inside presence) but not as good and isn’t as tall.
bross09 - May 16, 2010
Then why leave?
emily522 - May 15, 2010
There are a number of reasons to leave Cleveland if the team is a lateral move.
Roger Dorn - May 16, 2010
there aren’t though. I suspect the main reason you’re referring to is going to a bigger market, but LeBron can’t really benefit from that, he’s already a world wide star. this isn’t like CC to the yankees.
Lebron might make a couple million dollars more moving to NY or chicago, but thats pocket change. it doesn’t even make up for the lower contract.
notthatnoise - May 17, 2010
You can be a world wide star in Cleveland or you can be a world wide star in NY.
Villeslgr - May 17, 2010
but LeBron legitimately loves living in Akron, or he wouldn’t have plopped down that uber-mansion.
besides, its not like he can’t go wherever he wants whenever he wants.
notthatnoise - May 17, 2010
Somewhere i read that he has many people living there. The story (not sure if it was an article on his free agent status, or just a posting about a rumor) said that could be a reason he wouldn’t leave.
Villeslgr - May 17, 2010
I was not referring to being a worldwide star or earning more money. I am just saying that NYC offers a lot of things that Cleveland doesn’t.
Roger Dorn - May 17, 2010
Like a chance to handle Braylon Edwards.
Villeslgr - May 17, 2010
my point is though its not like he can’t just go to NY whenever he wants.
notthatnoise - May 19, 2010
Yes, but during the season his ability to go to NYC would be much more limited than if he was playing in NYC if he truly values that. CC Sabathia was encouraging Lebron after the Knicks-Cavs game telling him how much better it is to play in NY. He’s got people like that in his ear.
Roger Dorn - May 19, 2010
CC gets four or more days off at a time. Lebron doesn’t. I don’t want him going out every night during the season.
notthatnoise - May 19, 2010
Yeah, there are plenty of reasons to leave (and stay). I was responding to this:
So, I asked, why bother leaving then? If he went to a team like the Knicks, it’d probably take longer for him to even reach that round again. In Cleveland, the team could be back there next season.
I’m not quite sure what you mean by “lateral move”?
emily522 - May 17, 2010
Lateral move as in a move to a team that would be as good as the Cavs. I actually disagree about there being advantages for him making a lateral move.
Unless he really just wants to live in NYC or LA. In Chicago, he has to play in MJ’s shadow. In NYC, they get titles every couple of years.
If LeBron really wants to build his legacy, he has to stay and win in Cleveland. He would own the city forever, much like MJ will forever own Chicago.
If LeBron wants to make movies with Spike Lee, he can do that now. Lee’s documentary on Kobe was done while Kobe was in LA. LeBron can fly to any sporting event, concert, whatever any time he needs. He has an owner who will do (and spend) anything, and he’ll be able to get the Cavs to give him whatever coach he wants.
Why make a lateral move?
rufio - May 17, 2010
I just don’t want us all to be shocked when he heads elsewhere. Cleveland, as much as I love it, just isn’t the same as some of these other cities and he may be ready to try something new.
Roger Dorn - May 17, 2010
I wouldn’t be shocked. I just hope he stays. I know chances are slim now, but you never know…
emily522 - May 17, 2010
My concern really stems from the fact that I think he has certain people in his ear that will steer him out of Cleveland. Worldwide Wes is one of them.
Roger Dorn - May 18, 2010
Agree.
emily522 - May 17, 2010
This should have been the case.
Brown should have gone small and just killed the C’s. They had no way to match the Cavs when they ran. Instead Brown kept using Shaq, who was brought in for Orlando, not Boston, because IMO Brown was afraid to piss him off.
What the hell happened to Hickson? Instead Brown goes to Z, who didn’t play in three different games, to guard Boston’s front line.
Cavs should have gone Andy, Hickson, LBJ, West and Moon/Mo. Run a pick and roll every play, like Orlando did to us last season, and run the C’s out of the building. Whenever Hickson was in, he made plays.
I am not a huge believer in basketball coaches. I think they can make a very small increase in wins, but can kill a team. Mike Brown and his idiotic handling of playing time killed this team.
Bernie19Kosar - May 14, 2010
I would have loved to see that lineup.
rufio - May 15, 2010
I tend to think basketball coaches have enormous impact on the game, but probably the least impact at the pro level compared to college and high school.
Roger Dorn - May 15, 2010
Completely off subject, but I’m watching “Grandma’s Boy” for the umptenth time and it still cracks up. Love this movie.
