At least one of the Cleveland Browns remaining restricted free agents is participating in the team's offseason training activities -- RB Jerome Harrison. It's probably a good move by Harrison. Although he had an extremely impressive stretch to close out last season (561 yards rushing in 3 games), with the team drafting Montario Hardesty in the second round, Harrison can't afford to sit around and believe his starting job is guaranteed.
Harrison was not present for the OTA session that took place Thursday, but his absence is reportedly unrelated to his contract situation. Either way, head coach Eric Mangini is pleased to see Harrison at work:
"I think it's good for everyone to be here because it's the second round of install and it helps the player and it helps us for when we go to camp,'' said Mangini. "I'm glad Jerome is here and I expect him to be here next week.''
Harrison did not participate in the team's first batch of OTA sessions last week.

Harrison has competition from [insert player here] every year.
SpecialBrownie - May 27, 2010
Right, but he’s always held a position lower than No. 1 on the depth chart heading into that competition.
Chris Pokorny - May 27, 2010
This is good news. Hopefully Vickers shows. He’s the one I’m most worried about.
golanbatrac - May 27, 2010
Harrison
I agree, it’s good to see Harrison on the field although I believe having Vickers is much more important. Not to take anything away from Harrison but he would have never had gotten the yardage he did if it weren’t for his fullback leading the way. The value of a true fullback can never be under estimated.
Steve n NC - May 27, 2010
harrison being at OTAs is much more important for harrison. Vickers being back is important for vickers, but not as much with not as solidified competition for his spot.
bross09 - May 27, 2010
May the best man win the position.
OBrienSchofieldismyHero - May 27, 2010
I have no evidence, but I call Hardesty on this one.
Kimble_79 - May 28, 2010
this bandwagon is getting big.
notthatnoise - May 28, 2010
I hope we run the ball enough to have both backs carry the ball a substantial amount of times.
rufio - May 30, 2010
This
North Coast Flea - May 30, 2010
Agreed.
emily522 - June 1, 2010
2x 1000 yards?
JustBob - June 2, 2010
Or 1x 2000 yards? And the other one just blocks a whole lot.
SpecialBrownie - June 2, 2010
That would be awesome, we’ll see if it happens.
rufio - June 3, 2010
I am more worried about Roth.
rufio - May 27, 2010
As am I. His behavior — demanding a long-term contract or trade when he has only been on the team for half a season — seems to explain why he was cut by the Dolphins. Something about him seemed too good to be true. And I am usually very sympathetic to players’ demands for long-term contracts in the NFL — but Roth seems way out of line trying to get one here given the history here.
TheDriveStillHurts - May 27, 2010
I’m not really worried about Roth. He’s a nice player, but I think Vickers is more important to the team moving forward.
golanbatrac - May 27, 2010
I like to see everyone on the rooster working out its not good to have hold outs. I dont understand how some one can holdout when they not even played a whole season.

Dawg Nuts - May 28, 2010

Villeslgr - May 29, 2010
I think Vickers is a better player at his position, I think Roth is more valuable/important overall. JMO.
rufio - May 27, 2010
Agreed, he’s our best pass rusher.
danvail - June 1, 2010
Don’t look now, but reports have TJ Ward as being able to cover opposing players!
rufio - May 27, 2010
False. All of the experts on Mocking the Draft and other websites have said that the Browns taking him where they did was a reach. Thus, it is true. And no “reach” ever turns out to be better than the experts on websites. Even
BradyQuinnIs3rdStringTheRealSlimShady said he was a “reach.”TheDriveStillHurts - May 27, 2010
I don’t think he’s referring to pre-draft reports.
North Coast Flea - May 27, 2010
I would take it with a grain of salt though because it’s our receivers he’s covering.
North Coast Flea - May 27, 2010
I think he was joking.
rufio - May 27, 2010
Hard to tell in type. Haha
North Coast Flea - May 29, 2010
I am SURE TJ ward will be a better player than Mel Kiper will ever be.
bross09 - May 27, 2010
but his hair won’t be nearly as mesmerizing.
notthatnoise - May 27, 2010
yeah that kiper is such a one trick pony. TJ should be fine barring any major injury.
Suppa Bob - May 27, 2010
As would most players.
Andrew Tolliver - May 28, 2010
So that is the standard you judge players by now?
TheRealSlimShady - May 28, 2010
no, but he sure will be better than TDSH said…since i would say he would turn out to be a better player than Kiper.
and even if he meant that no reach ever turns out better than experts think they will turn out, that is also false.
bross09 - May 28, 2010
you need to turn on your sarcasm detector

Sorry for not jizzing my pants over every browns selection. But yes, if he had some good OTAs he’s the steal of the draft! SUPER BOWL
TheRealSlimShady - May 28, 2010
We don’t expect you to jizz your pants for every selection. We know you only jizz your pants for overrated Quarterbacks from Notre Dame. By the way, aren’t you a Bronco’s or Panther’s fan yet? They both have Fighting Irish back-up Quarterbacks.

I guess if I had talked about jizzing my pants my contribution would have been more significant eh?
BrownsFanRegina - May 29, 2010
What the hell is this “able to cover” you’re talking about here? From a safety? A Brown’s safety?
I’m not buying it.

Not to thread jack but does anyone else find it suspicious that Jim Brown was canned from being an advisor a week after he said Lebron would leave?
…Something’s fishy up at Lake Erie… but it could just be the fish.
SpecialBrownie - May 27, 2010
The Browns have needed to do this for years. Kudos to Holmgren for getting it done.
It’ll be interesting to see how this gets spun though. A year ago, Mangini got flambéd for removing a mural of Browns legends. Now Holmgren is removing the actual legends. I somehow doubt that anyone in the media will hold Holmgren’s feet to the fire.
golanbatrac - May 27, 2010
Yep.
rufio - May 27, 2010
Yes! The mural thing was the most aggravating story I have ever seen. If Mangini canned Jim Brown, it would be a national media meltdown.

quarterback/receiver hybrid comes free. Possible rocket pocket, Stanback, Cribbs, Wallace. Act fast.

OT, but i never noticed how snide the rotowire writers can be.
notthatnoise - May 30, 2010
Yea, it can be annoying. Some of the conclusions they draw don’t really follow any sort of logic pattern either.
Roger Dorn - May 30, 2010
So what’s the deal with Davis? Will he not see any time until Harrison/Hardetsty need rests late in the season? Maybe we can use his speed in the Cribbs/Wallace formations.
