Around the Pound (4/4): Happy Easter Edition

Happyeaster_medium Around the Pound makes its return today to Dawgs By Nature after a brief hiatus. I hope everyone is enjoying the Easter holiday and the loads of chocolate brought by the Easter Bunny. In today's issue of Around the Pound, we look at Terry Pluto's Sunday column, Shaun Rogers' brief word with the media Friday, and more.

Pluto: Browns Finding Winners, Delhomme Already Committed

In Terry Pluto's weekly column, he highlighted the fact that the new front office have brought in players who have been accustomed to winning in an attempt to "change the losing culture" in Cleveland. Among those players include QB Jake Delhomme, who led the Panthers to several playoff-contending seasons. Pluto notes that Delhomme has already shown some leadership since joining the Browns:

11. Delhomme has been in town for the voluntary workouts and has impressed with his attitude and leadership skills. He has come as advertised. The big question will be if he can still produce on the field. He certainly is putting in the work to revive his career.

Shaun Rogers Responds to Media

Defensive lineman Shaun Rogers spoke out on his gun incident on Friday to the local media. His explanation for having the gun in his bag in the first place...

Rogers said he hurriedly packed for his flight to Texas for Easter and didn't realize the gun was still in his bag. He said he had been using the bag on frequent driving trips to Detroit as he rents his home there to former teammate Corey Williams.

''I was late to the airport, not giving it much thought and not doing my due diligence that the gun was properly put away or stowed,'' Rogers said. ''I threw some toiletries, my computer in, and I was off to the airport, not knowing it was in there. I would never intentionally take a firearm or weapon of any kind to the airport.''

Rogers will eventually make a plea to commissioner Roger Goodell in hopes to convince him that he shouldn't be suspended from the NFL.

Eric Berry's Visit Coming This Week

This is sort of old news since it was announced over a week ago, but I thought I'd remind everyone that Eric Berry will be visiting the Cleveland Browns this week. He's scheduled to visit on Thursday, April 8.

Off-Beat Notes

  • I watched the Cleveland Cavaliers game earlier, and even though the Cavaliers have no obligation to compete for the rest of the regular season, they were animated and competitive throughout the whole game. LeBron probably should've gone for the tie near the end of the game rather than the three, but there are many times he'll make that shot under pressure.
  • I'm also excited for the start of the Cleveland Indians season tomorrow. I'm sure most of you have visited Let's Go Tribe before, but if you haven't, be sure to pop in for their game threads tomorrow and throughout the season.
  • Last week's episode of LOST was nice and fast-paced, and with Desmond and his "special" ability back on the island, I can't wait to see how he will be the game-changer in this Tuesday's episode. I just hope they don't kill him off, at least not this soon. I hope we see a twist to the flashsideways storyline soon too. While I'm still compelled by the "alternate storylines," I still hope they somehow tie into the real timeline as opposed to being an epilogue to LOST.
  • I brought up the iPad a few months ago in Around the Pound, and most of us made a mockery of it. I'm just curious if anyone here went out and purchased one -- if you did, feel free to explain how you like it.
  • Cue the ongoing controversy about the development of Ghostbusters 3, which based on the coverage I've given to the film on this blog, you'd assume I'm obsessed with it. According to a report, there is another holdup, and it (or rather, "he") is the same as the old holdup: Bill Murray. Dan Aykroyd told him to 'stop acting like a jerk.'
  • I saw this about a week ago, also on the film front: Mike Myers and company are moving forward with plans to develop Austin Powers 4. Given its box office success, I was always surprised that another film wasn't made after Goldmember back in 2002. I'm not a huge fan of the series, but it's another case of the sequels making their return. Toy Story 3 and Shrek 4 are also in the movie queue. Is it only a matter of time before we see The Matrix 4, a series which certainly could/should have ended much better than it did?

The Dawg with the bunny ears is beast.

I thought the same thing.

The new Fringe was awesome. We all had a feeling of what Peter was, but they finally showed how he got here.

WOOHOO We just had a 7 second earthquake! Gotta love CA.

Wait, was he an alien? Or a biological lifeform created by his father?

Peter died as a kid. Walter went to the other dimension and brought back the other child Peter before he would die too. Walter cured him. He was going to take him back but kept him instead. New Peter still doesn’t know yet.

So that explains why Walter forgot about his time machine. So, there is a chunk of time missing from Peter’s life? Wicked.

You’d think that with a time machine, Walter’s mocks would be better than they are.

and without as much douchiness

He’s just old. The experiments he ran drove him a lil’ crazy. He’s probably been threw some crap that hasn’t been talked about yet.

He still remembers things from his original dimension. He just doesn’t know what Walter is talking about sometimes when he brings up his childhood. Because it didn’t happen to him, it happened to the other Peter.

Ohh, it’s a parrell dimension that didn’t follow the exact dimension of the first. Got it.

Isn’t LeBron a Yankee fan?

yeah…what does that have to do with anything here?

He went for three so he could get home in time for the game?

I highly doubt that lebron was thinking that…I think you were joking…

you have a real knack for missing/killing jokes.

You really ruin things when you do that, Ron.

I was just watching the opening day ceremonies and he was wearing a Beats by Dr Dre headset with a Sox logo on it. I was just giving him a lite version of the business.

ATP is open discussion, bross.

ATP?

Around The Pound.

Around.
The.
Pound.

I had never seen anyone use that for the around the pound. ATP makes me think of tennis or Adenosine Triphosphate.

Come on dude. You had no idea what Adenosine Triphosphate was until you Yahoo searched ATP.

funny joke…

NOT

Haha, you got caught. ;)

You probably don’t even know how ADP is even turned into ATP, let alone what it meant before you googled it

ahh yes, high school biology is coming back to me now, i knew i had heard of ATP somewhere.

yeah. HS bio was pretty easy.

you are just messing with me right?

Sodium-potassium pump, baby! WHOOOOO!

man i loved terry tate, office linebacker.

CITRUS CYCLE YEAH!

I have no idea why, but this pic makes me think of moon almost immediately.

I didn’t understand that at all.

Ugh I hate that class.

I love that Dan Akroyd desperately needs a Ghostbuster sequel and that Bill Murray, who didn’t piss his career away making awful movies, is being a jerk about the script.
No matter, this is the film I’m most looking forward to this year.

I flag that link…… twice.

Jaws: Revenge on Dry land

Was that from the makers of Dinoshark? Oh wait, Dinoshark had better special effects.

Toy Story 3 is going to be epic.

I’m excited for the Indians’ season to start. I probably won’t get to watch a game but I sometimes follow gamecast on Yahoo. I’m not into baseball as I used to be, but still… GO TRIBE!

I’m thinking of taking my friend to the Movie Tavern to see TS3. Went there to watch Alice in Wonderland 3D. The 3D wasn’t as good as Imax, but the fish and chips was delectable.

The Movie Tavern is a cool concept.

The only one in Ohio apparently.

Austin Powers has not held up well over time. They should have struck while the iron was hot.

GET IN MY BELLY!

Haha, I still think they are great. Terrific spoofs of the Bond movies (at least the first one was)

I beg to differ, I would say the Cleveland Browns have had a winning culture at least since mooncamping and Mangini arrived!
If Shaun Rogers is pleading stupidity, as it seems a lot of people are these days, fine, acceptable rationale.

I don’t think the stirring of the front office pot with Mangini/ Holmgren /Heckert will be anything like as significant in the long term to the signing (spawning?) of Mooncamping on DBN.

I expect his initials to appear on our jerseys in 50 years time, just like George Halas do on the Bears.

Self confidence never hurts

Browns will draft a quarterback

Look for McCoy or Claussen. My pick would be (OL) Bulaga or (LB) McClain. I think if (S) Berry is gone you are going to get Claussen.

well that settles it then.

I just puked a little bit. I hate Clausen early in the first. Berry or Trade down imo.

I puke every time you talk about Tim Tebow.

I puke everytime you two start going at it, like squirrels in heat.

I never go at anyone, i don’t know what your talking about. I don’t engage in off topic internet forum discussions like Bross. I know this isn’t the place to talk politics or Dr. Seuss’ racism or whatever.

Dr. Seuss was a racist?

Dawgs By Nature — where Dr. Seuss, apparently, ‘did some good things’

hahahaha…

Rec.

I never was around for the original quote (golan’s sig)

except that I don’t talk politics here…but you never shut up about tebow…that DOES happen.

I don’t talk politics here…

-bross09

You never shut up about anything…

the same can be said for you good sir.

This Saturday….

bross09 vs jaws

You pay full price for the seat, but all you need is the edge!!!

might i recommend a steel cage, ladder match?

I get the metal chair!! He going Down!!

I brought up the iPad a few months ago in Around the Pound, and most of us made a mockery of it. I’m just curious if anyone here went out and purchased one — if you did, feel free to explain how you like it.

I didn’t buy one, but on my flight yesterday the guy next to me had just gotten his. It was super fast and looked pretty cool. It didn’t have a USB port though which I thought could be an issue.

Don’t take my word though, I am kind of a computer idiot. The DVD picture was awesome though.

the ipad does what it does really well. the problem is its priced like a desktop and doesn’t have near the functionality. It’s a netbook with half the functionality at twice the price.

I also don’t like the fact that you can’t open it up if you want. you even have to pay someone at the apple store to change your battery for you.

Agreed. It is cool, but for functionality, i will wait a generation or two and wait for the price to drop. as of right now, it doesn’t have a USB port like B19K said and it can’t run flash. If it eventually runs Mac OS instead of the iPhone OS, the price drops a bit, and it gets a USB port and flash, I think it could be quite an interesting product. But if these things don’t happen, it could go the way of the MacBook Air.

The Macbook Air was out for like a week.

Good concept, terrible terrible finished product.

Last I checked, they were still selling it. they might not anymore, but it was still being sold by apple for a while. the problem was that it wasn’t very innovative or unique but did eventually find a niche market. I don’t find the ipad very innovative or unique. i think it isn’t a great finished product either. it is more likely to succeed than the Air but still I don’t believe will be a mainstream thing…at least not for quite a few years.

You really can’t open it up?

I “cant open” my iMac, but I just installed a new HD in it.

I just don’t understand why I would want an iPad. It seems like it is either like a huge iPhone that doesn’t make calls or a smaller, crappier laptop. Was there really a need for that genre of computer? Same goes for the netbooks for me—why not just get a smallish laptop?

Netbooks are awesome, don’t knock them. It’s Mac’s latest concepts that make no absolute sense.

And a netbook actually is a smallish laptop, they just change the name.

yeah, a netbook is basically a small cheap laptop that doesn’t have enough power to do anything but type or surf the web. of course, if thats all you want it to do, then its great.
