This draft thread is for the discussion of round three. After the Browns traded up into the second round to draft Hardesty, here are the two remaining picks the Cleveland Browns have in the third round:
QB Colt McCoy is still on the board, and DE Corey Wootton is another player I'd like to target. Discuss round three in this thread!

sorry had to
nickmar19 - April 23, 2010
Three picks have happened and they are talking to Pete Carroll?
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
Wootton would be nice.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
wherd golden tate go? i missed it
nickmar19 - April 23, 2010
Seahawks
emily522 - April 23, 2010
tate went to seahawks
Dawgger - April 23, 2010
anyone pick myron rolle yet?
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
bout to comment on this – can anyone make a compelling case for tj ward over myron rolle?!?!
Dawgger - April 23, 2010
if i remember right, i think rolle ended up having some really bad 40 times? i know that shouldnt judge how good a guy is, but you know how it is at the combine
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
Tom Heckert.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
Eric Mangini.
TheDriveStillHurts - April 23, 2010
Mike Holmgren.
TheDriveStillHurts - April 23, 2010
Terike Hoheini
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
Mitoric.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
that is better than mine. i will use this in the future.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
Follows the same pattern as Hoheini.
Either way, it sounds like our front office is run by a gay Japanese magician.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
i would be ok with a magician running things.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
especially a gay japanese one!
Dawg Nuts - April 23, 2010
tj ward is a football player, myron rolle dabbles in it from time to time between other pursuits.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
+100
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
Cmon man, that’s unnecessary.
rufio - April 23, 2010
i was almost entirely joking. I like Myron Rolle, but from what little i’ve heard about either i like ward better.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
Of course Ward is better, he’s wearing Orange and Brown.
rufio - April 23, 2010
haha yeah, obviously!
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
He is flat out better from what i can tell. Really this guy looks a lot better than people had him. I think he could be a really nice pick.
jaws. - April 23, 2010
Don’t think so.
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
I wonder if McCoy slides to the 83 pick the Browns will pass again?
Grockcubs - April 23, 2010
yes. holmgren already said if they go qb it’ll be later rounds. looks like franchise qb will come next year
Dawgger - April 23, 2010
i dont think they like him much. if they did they would have gotten him with that trade
nickmar19 - April 23, 2010
I think they’ll take him if he slides that far.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
Don’t see why the Browns would pick McCoy at 83 when they could have had him without a trade at 71. They must not think he has the potential.
Brownsyup - April 23, 2010
I think they would look at receiver soon however.
Grockcubs - April 23, 2010
Someone mentioned in the other thread that Heckert said no WRs
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
I doubt we’ll see a WR at this point. I can’t see that anyone we’d pick up now at WR would be obviously better than what we have right now.
Brownsyup - April 23, 2010
Wouldn’t mind jacoby ford
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
oh comeon. we need a burner to open up the field for the other guys. with out the field streached nothing happens. im thinking that guy from OU
nickmar19 - April 23, 2010
The guys that can run AND run a decent route are long gone.
Brownsyup - April 23, 2010
i dont care how he runs a route. that can be tought. cant teach speed
nickmar19 - April 23, 2010
Hello Al Davis.
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
im not al davis. al davis is a crazy old man. im just saying we have, dare i say, possession receivers, but not a star
nickmar19 - April 23, 2010
how about
Everson Griffen?
GoBrowns80 - April 23, 2010
i was thinkin the same thing. but i think he’ll be gone before our next pick
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
damn. that would be nice
GoBrowns80 - April 23, 2010
if he was there
GoBrowns80 - April 23, 2010
I cant watch – either Holmgren gave Mangini way too much influence or Heckert did not have enough time to meld with the scouting staff. These moves are just as bad as last year.
realmccoy - April 23, 2010
yes that terrible draft we had last year… wait, no, i actually don’t think that happened.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
sucked
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
Sigh.
Buckeye Brad - April 23, 2010
Double sigh.
Bernie19Kosar - April 23, 2010
We started with the no 5 overall and ended up with a nice center. 3 2nd rounders zilch – that was nice. Go drink your kool aid
realmccoy - April 23, 2010
a nice center, a staring DT, a starting S, a backup QB, a quality #2 maybe even #1 WR, and a project LB. I’ll admit Robi hasn’t shown much, but receivers are notorious for taking a long time to develop.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
You mean a great C, a mediocre DT, a mediocre S that sucks in coverage, a mediocre #2 WR, a bust WR, a bad MLB, and a bust DE,
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
Massaquoi was a good #2 last year as a rookie, even if you think he’s hit his ceiling, its better than mediocre.
you can’t call anyone a bust after one year.
that MLB played pretty well for us.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
he can.
bross09 - April 24, 2010
Sorry Dude - My Remark Was Uncalled For
Just frustrated and had high hopes for the draft. I just don’t like the positions, injury history, and speed of TJ Ward. Heckert knows more than me though anyway.
realmccoy - April 23, 2010
Ward’s speed is fine. Timed, at least.
rufio - April 23, 2010
Timed 4.54 – 4.68. Taylor Mays was quite a bit faster and had a better college career.
realmccoy - April 23, 2010
thats plenty fast for a safety, and while Taylor Mays is more physically gifted, he’s not as good of a football player.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
He ran 4.48 at his pro day.
jaws. - April 23, 2010
Timed 4.46-4.49.
rufio - April 23, 2010
And Mays’ college career was really not good.
rufio - April 23, 2010
check this site out if you are trying to talk yourself into TJ Ward
jaws. - April 23, 2010
Cool!
emily522 - April 23, 2010
The comparison to Polamalu is not convincing, but Ward can be a good player.
But nothing is going to get rid of the injury concerns except him not being injured in the NFL.
rufio - April 23, 2010
Agree.
jaws. - April 23, 2010
I just think that Major Wright and Morgan Burnett would have been better free safeties. Maybe even Chad Jones and Taylor Mays
TheRealSlimShady - April 23, 2010
what has taylor mays done in college? nothing? he doesn’t have a nose for the ball or instincts like ward.
bross09 - April 24, 2010
I never saw a time anywhere near 4.68. He ran a 4.54 at the combine (the lowest time on your spectrum) than a 4.48 at his pro day. that isn’t berry, thomas or mays speed but thats right up there with Nate Allen and Chad Jones.
I wouldn’t say mays had a better college career. he had 3 interceptions in his freshman year and thats about it.
for a fast guy, when blitzing, mays had trouble getting to the QB. He made a lot of tackles in his career but a lot of those were assisted tackles Ward was much better at bringing the guy down on intial contact instead of needing multiple players.
mays isn’t a playmaker at all (one fumble forced, no sacks, 2 INTs in the last 3 years) compared to Ward ( 6 forced fumbles, 1 sack, 2 QB hurries, 2 INTs and 8 TFLs).
mays is a pure height/weight/speed guy with a midround tape. Ward is a guy with a late first round tape (would be higher with more INTs) butr not great speed and questionable durability.
bross09 - April 24, 2010
Dude, it’s been ONE YEAR. Wide receivers take time to develop. You can’t judge a draft after one year.
Buckeye Brad - April 23, 2010
+1
Matt Y. - April 23, 2010
+ Joe Thomas
BrownDawg1409 - April 23, 2010
i sure wish we could all figure out what the deal with robiskie is? wonder if it has something to do with them firing his dad?
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
It really shouldn’t.
rufio - April 23, 2010
Why would they take him in the first place then?
emily522 - April 23, 2010
if i remember right, his dad was still with the team when they drafted him? am i wrong on that?
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
yeah, his dad’s been in miami for a few years now.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
ah, my mistake. i was thinking he was on our scout team when we drafted him
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
Its all good. I still just don’t think Robi would sulk because they fired his dad.
rufio - April 23, 2010
well, i know i wouldnt want to work for anyone that fired my dad, haha. but thats just me
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
Atlanta, too, I thought.
rufio - April 23, 2010
ah you might be right. i know he originally went to miami
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
He was productive at Ohio State despite non-awesome QBs, no red flags came up in terms of timed speed/measurements, he got over the top of several NFL CBs, he had great hands, and he exemplifies the things Mangini likes (character, hard work, football means something to them, etc.)
The biggest concern was his ability to make cuts and separate, which is probably why he didn’t get on the field. I also suspect OSU’s passing offense is really really simple, which would be a good reason he didn’t digest the playbook last year.
rufio - April 23, 2010
yeah. I have a feeling it was maybe just adjusting to the NFL playbook. I feel good about him though.
bross09 - April 24, 2010
Draft was good last year.
Brownie's Year - April 23, 2010
Thaddeus Gibson: Projection?
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
Please no projections.
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
What’s wrong with wanting to know where people think he might fall?
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
lol, I misread that. Interpreted as “project to OLB in 3-4”
Please, project away on when he will be drafted :)
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
Speaking of Thad…
GAHNKI!!!!!
TheRealSlimShady - April 23, 2010
don’t you have a couple bets you lost that people are still waiting to collect on?
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
Bernie19Kosar - April 23, 2010
rec.
rufio - April 24, 2010
Only players left on the DBN Big Board:
21. Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
39. Thaddeus Gibson, DE/OLB, Ohio St.
45. Everson Griffen, DE/OLB, USC
Chris Pokorny - April 23, 2010
Damnitt I knew I forgot something today!
rufio - April 23, 2010
46-50 would be Gerhart, Norwood, Ducasse, Taylor Price, and Asamoah
rufio - April 23, 2010
I took a peak at the 46-50 spots, but I don’t know if 12 votes is conclusive enough to include them.
Chris Pokorny - April 23, 2010
Only 12?
I lost interest after 30.
Brownie's Year - April 23, 2010
Still, I said I would do it, I shoulda done it. Or at least voted for myself like 50 times.
rufio - April 23, 2010
Correction, also add
32. Bruce Campbell, OT, Maryland
Chris Pokorny - April 23, 2010
see why we didnt take taylor mays? haha
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
lol… just saw that!
Brownsyup - April 23, 2010
?
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
Sorry. Mays was talking smack about his old coach, Carroll.
Brownsyup - April 23, 2010
Funny.
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
ha, yeah. he’s been a 49er for an hour and he already did an interview talking about how pete carroll didnt draft him. wtf? keep your mouth shut and be happy you’re in the NFL
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
exactly…and then carroll came back all professional and stated he liked mays but basically wasn’t playing favorites.
I thought mays was a high character guy…
bross09 - April 24, 2010
The only players on my wish list from now on is Jon Jerry, Eric Norwood, and Bruce Campbell
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
I’ll bet that idiot Mangini won’t draft any of them!
Buckeye Brad - April 23, 2010
Buffalo, Jags, and maybe 49ers are the only teams before us picking next who could take a QB.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
Scratch Buffalo.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
I think Jags and 49ers can be crossed off to, but I sometimes you just never know.
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
True.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
One thing is perfectly clear. If you watched the last 4 games last year. Get used to that old school approach. Run, Run, Run, Screen, Run, Run, Run,Run, CROSSING ROUTE, Run, Deep Ball…. Run, Run, Run….
TD
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
That won’t work very long in the NFL.
Buckeye Brad - April 23, 2010
Round is flying by. Browns will be up soon.
Brownie's Year - April 23, 2010
With McCoy, now you’re getting into the territory where a team can draft him just to have a backup quarterback (meaning a team without a QB issue could grab him).
Chris Pokorny - April 23, 2010
Damn you’re right.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
Basically, it’s time to just cross our fingers.
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
Which doesn’t affect us at all since we’re taking Skelton.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
Nah, most teams don’t blow a 3rd on a backup. They draft him because they think he could be a starter. In the end, sadly, McNugget has been judged judged as a 5yr backup by the scouts. A slight upgrade to a Ken Dorsey. He just doesn’t have the physical attributes. Clearly the Browns scouting staff feels the same. He’s just not big enough. But ya, maybe someone takes him just to take him.
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
cant believe bruce campbell is still there too!
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
Anyone else see the guy in the Quinn jersey getting his pic with Goodell?
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
haha that was pretty funny. he was afraid to touch him at first.
Dawgger - April 23, 2010
Is there any team with more outdated jerseys from the last decade than the Browns?
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
at least we lead the league in something.
Dawgger - April 23, 2010
Indians.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
Expos/Nationals
Chief WaDrew - April 23, 2010
Yahoo has made me feel better:
Ward: T.J. Ward is simply a football player. He’s undersized and has some medical issues, but is really fluid when asked to redirect and find the football and loves to bring the wood vs. the run game. A really solid pick in Round 2.
Hardesty: A really talented back who has the ability to make people miss inside and accelerate into the open field. Runs hard and can break tackles, but has some real durability issues.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
They are solid players!!
Brownie's Year - April 23, 2010
my issue with ward is that we already have a supposedly stout safety against the run (abram). we need a free safety and ward looks more like a SS
Dawgger - April 23, 2010
Rec for needing a free safety
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
to be fair Ward has played/can play both.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
exactly. We needed a ballhawk, not a hard hitter
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
How can it be possible for one person to hate EVERY pick the Browns make? You must try really hard to do that.
Buckeye Brad - April 23, 2010
How is it possible for you to bitch so much about my opinion. Got a problem, ignore me and move on
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
Perhaps he just feels that Buffalo might be a more fitting team for you to root for.
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
If you haven’t noticed, I’m not the only one who is annoyed by your constant grumpiness.
Buckeye Brad - April 23, 2010
Have the ball enough to speak for yourself, not everyone else. If you don’t like my opinion, ignore me. You’re constant bitching isn’t any less annoying than my “grumpiness”, so STFU and skip over my comments if you have a problem. Easy right?
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
Do you enjoy anything?
rufio - April 23, 2010
He enjoyed washing Sergio Kindle.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
lame
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
funny, actually.
Dawg Nuts - April 23, 2010
kids are easily entertained afterall
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
because your response was very grown up.
Dawg Nuts - April 23, 2010
Do you mean approve? I Enjoy lots of things, I dont approve of many of these moves
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
No, I mean enjoy. You seem to be mad about everything that ever happens to the Browns.
rufio - April 23, 2010
Admittingly I have low patience with the Browns after years and years of bad personel management. But honestly my “grumpiness” seems accentuated lately because the browns have honestly done nothing, NOTHING that I truly approved of the past 2 years. seriously
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
Chief WaDrew - April 23, 2010
Villeslgr - April 24, 2010
You do realize that nobody respects your opinion when all you do is whine all the time, right? You just seem to be a grumply old guy who always complains about something, and nobody takes that seriously. Why even bother telling us your opinion when it’s always negative? What is the point?
Buckeye Brad - April 23, 2010
You’re right. I give a shit about you’re opinion of my opinion. So you shouldn’t feel the need to express it
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
I’m just trying to improve the quality of the site.
Buckeye Brad - April 23, 2010
I’m admittedly have low patience with the Browns after so many years of seeing the same things over and over. But it seems accentuated because the Browns have honestly not done anything I really, GREATLY approved of the past 2 years. I seriously wasn’t this bad before.
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
Mangini covets guys who can play both positions.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
I thought it was rob ryan that said that. either way, we have 2 “hybrid” safeties, guys who could play FS or SS. guys who can hit you in the mouth and be decent in coverage. I like this Defensive backfield.
bross09 - April 24, 2010
Ward used to be a CB so I think he can cover well enough for FS. I think he may end up being solid but I doubt he will be good. JMO
TheRealSlimShady - April 23, 2010
a) ward has played both
b) elam is more of a hybrid safety like ward. Elam isn’t a bad cover guy for a FS.
c) rob ryan has stated he doesn’t want a SS and FS, he wants 2 safeties who can play the run and pass and that is what elam and ward are.
bross09 - April 24, 2010
Now I’m relieved.
Chris Pokorny - April 23, 2010
I’m still wondering about Hardesty. I hope he turns about to be an assume back behind Harrison.
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
Awesome. Not assume.
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
lol
Brownie's Year - April 23, 2010
Ward is 215-220lbs. Height is overrated.
rufio - April 23, 2010
MOST FS’s are still over 5’10. I know some good ones are that size but usually you want a taller one
TheRealSlimShady - April 23, 2010
Polamalu, Sanders, Reed. I’ll take hard hitter, agile, and fast over 6’+ any day. I’d also like no college injuries, though.
rufio - April 24, 2010
Yeah, Ward runs a 4.45 and is 211 lbs. if he cleans up his game he could be a steal.
jaws. - April 24, 2010
he is over 5’10’’…so whats the problem?
bross09 - April 24, 2010
he is taller and has a similar vertical leap to earl thomas. I never heard anyone here complain that much about thomas’ height.
bross09 - April 24, 2010
i dont like the medical issues. hes has two surgeries on his knees
The Brown Note - April 23, 2010
Ward banged up as well
realmccoy - April 23, 2010
Players I like that are still around:
QB Colt McCoy
DE Corey Wootton
WR Taylor Price
WR Brandon Lafell
WR Damian Williams
OLB Ricky Sappy
NT Cam Thomas
OT Bruce Campbell
LB Donald Butler
Bumblyjack - April 23, 2010
There are some good ones there.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
i wouldn’t mind throwing a pick at bruce campbell here. i would get to make tons of evil dead references.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
its worth the pick for that reason alone
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
Absolutely. If he can play RT for us, that’s just a bonus.
rufio - April 23, 2010
lol
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
Brownie's Year - April 23, 2010
I smile just seeing that name.
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
when ther is a team like the browns with countless holes…why do we need 3264 running backs?
nickmar19 - April 23, 2010
Because championship teams have 3265 running backs. We’re almost there.
Chris Pokorny - April 23, 2010
Good question. Especially since the running game is the ONE thing that seemed to pick up at the end of last season.
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
Isn’t it obvious? We have that many LBs and they need someone to injure during opportunity time.
realmccoy - April 23, 2010
9 more picks until we go again
emily522 - April 23, 2010
I didn’t love the Hardesty Pick. Tell you the truth i really like the other 2. I think we should have gone Vladimir Ducasse with that Hardesty pick.
Hopefully we’ll find a few deals on offensive lineman later in the draft.
At this point I think Dan LeFevour is the guy, I hope anyway. Seems like a pretty good athlete, nice release. NFL weight program could benefit him.
jaws. - April 23, 2010
There are a lot of QBs left. I cant wait to see who we get. Maybe not till round 5 or 6.
Brownie's Year - April 23, 2010
I just don’t get why we’d pass on McCoy when McCoy himself said Holgren compared him to Steve Young and Montana. He also said he loved the coaches and stuff.
Yeah, McCoy has a big chance to start here. But he could’ve said that about Buffalo, Carolina, etc. probably.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
ya we gave up a lot to get that Hardesty pick. i also think we didnt have to many issues with the RBs we have already. should have gone a different direction.
The Brown Note - April 23, 2010
Our FO might not believe in our RBs.
Brownie's Year - April 23, 2010
Let’s not forget: McCoy is still on the board…
Hope I didn’t just jinx it.
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
I don’t hate the hardesty pick. I am not in love with it, but I think it was solid, even considering what we gave up. he has all the tools to be a feature back in the league. he has underrated speed, soft hands, good blocking, great vision, but he does lack in lateral mobility. he could still be a great runner and has been compared to another great running back who came out of Tennessee and was recently on the browns.
bross09 - April 24, 2010
for those still waiting for a qb: anyone we take now is developmental, agreed? What’s the point in drafting a development qb this year when we’ll probably have a high pick next year in a much deeper qb class? let’s just spend whatever later round pick on some depth at another position.
Dawgger - April 23, 2010
this is where i always think that if possible, package them later round picks and trade them for higher round picks next year. then use them next year to trade up again if needed
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
because homgren is a qb monster and he will work his magic
nickmar19 - April 23, 2010
why not get a second round quality QB this year and get a get a great player in a different position next year with our first.
The Brown Note - April 23, 2010
why not get a second round quality other position and a first round quality qb? qb is more important than most positions
Dawgger - April 23, 2010
EXACTLY!!
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
because its more likely a 1st round quality player at another position will be a 1st round quality player 2 years later than a qb will be. us browns fans know this all to well
nickmar19 - April 23, 2010
i mean, sad but true. but in theory, qb next year.
Dawgger - April 23, 2010
its so hard to get a good qb in the later rounds. i know there is the huge bust potential when you pick them high, but when you pick them in the 2nd round and they dont turn out, then thats a pick wasted that should have been a starter as well
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
soo never draft a qb?
nickmar19 - April 23, 2010
no, of course you draft a qb. i’m just saying i think you got to go ahead and draft one with a high pick. i wouldnt waste the time picking a guy in the later rounds.
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
Perhaps if we’re in good position to take a top QB next year, we will.
Meanwhile, developmental QB learns this year and starts next year. If he shows promise, he starts the whole season, and maybe we have Brees/Rivers, Brady/Cassell, or Vick/Schaub situation.
Matt Y. - April 23, 2010
correction: have a …situation
Matt Y. - April 23, 2010
the problem here is there is such a good chance of missing out on a true franchise qb while we’re “developing” someone else.
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
I hope our next pick is Jacoby Ford.
jaws. - April 23, 2010
Jacoby Ford seems like Roscoe Parrish to me…is that what we want?
On the other hand we could get cough Tim Carter cough , I mean Taylor Price
Bumblyjack - April 23, 2010
unless someone triads up i think mcCoy will be there for the Browns pick
The Brown Note - April 23, 2010
It’s tough to say who will take McCoy at this point. Now it’s almost like, “gee, if we basically made it an afterthought to take the guy after having several opportunities, did we really even want him?”
Chris Pokorny - April 23, 2010
Good point.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
I’m thinking that Holgren is so set with not taking a QB till the 3rd round that he would take the best available at that point….and i would say that is mccoy
The Brown Note - April 23, 2010
So in the SB Nation Mock Draft, I took Colt McCoy in the second round. If I didn’t take him, I was taking DL Corey Wootton.
It’s mid-way through round three, and they are both still available. Mock draft fail for me.
Chris Pokorny - April 23, 2010
Mock drafts are insanely hard, don’t beat yourself up. ;)
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
Mock draft fail for everyone.
Brownie's Year - April 23, 2010
I took Haden and Demaryious Thomas when I did one for the Browns. Win?
TheRealSlimShady - April 23, 2010
this mock draft is making many epic fails…bruce campbell fell far…granted he still went to the raiders.
bross09 - April 24, 2010
I think Wooton’s injuries scare people.
rufio - April 23, 2010
He also seems like jarron gilbert of last year. too small to really have a position

I thought so too, but they got a solid value in Sanders.
rufio - April 23, 2010
Is there some major downside to Bruce Campbell that I don’t know about? I’m surprised he’s still on the board.
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
People are afraid of a guy who is a freak athlete but doesn’t play like one?
rufio - April 23, 2010
Interesting, I didn’t know. I just saw him projected anywhere from top 10 to early second at the latest. I didn’t follow him closely at all in college though, so I don’t know much about him.
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
I thought he would have gone in the second, too. Figured it would be worth it for someone who already has a good team to take a flier on him.

Why can I just see Michael Smith hanging out in the hallway outside the war room with his ear to the door, like a kid spying on his parents?
Chief WaDrew - April 23, 2010
At least he made it to the hallway. Poor Grossi spent the draft sitting in his Camry watching the real journalists come and go from the facilities.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
Yes, we did NOT move up. We’re on the clock at No. 85 as scheduled.

rufio - April 23, 2010
Mack Brown selects Colt!
great value for Browns
WarWolf - April 23, 2010
Sending Mack Brown up there was a nice touch.
This pick is the “In Holmgren I trust” pick. It was between Colt or Dan LeFevour and I suppose Holmgren likes Colt’s arm and such better. I’ll live with it.
Get this kid in the weight room though, buff him up and see if he can solidify his arm and prevent injury.
jaws. - April 23, 2010
Definitely think this draft slide and McCoy’s blue collar attitude could come up big in cleveland.
jaws. - April 23, 2010
his only weakness is that he isn’t tim tebow.
Dawg Nuts - April 23, 2010
Better value than having to trade up for tebow at least.
jaws. - April 23, 2010
Maybe he can takeover quinn’s eas endorsement
Villeslgr - April 23, 2010
i love how his shirt says “Victory is MINE”
Dawgger - April 23, 2010

I can live with #85. Welcome to the Browns Colt McCoy.
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
hell. yes.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
Bottom line: he was an absolute stud in college, so I am more than willing to give the kid a shot.
superbacker56 - April 23, 2010
Mid third round is an excellent place to pick him up. And Mel Kiper is finally happy.
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
Now I can go to bed a little more happy. :-)
Brownsyup - April 23, 2010
I can’t argue with #85 for the kid. Still don’t think he’s big enough. But he gets a year to soak up the offense. He’ll be a 3rd/4th stringer year one.
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
I called it last night — we would not draft Colt unless he fell to the 3rd round. Buckeye Brad said he was 90 percent sure I was wrong. Book it.
TheDriveStillHurts - April 23, 2010
Good call.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
mike holmgren’s on the line; something about a job offer…

Buckeye Brad - April 23, 2010
But we can both be happy about it.
TheDriveStillHurts - April 23, 2010

85. Colt McCoy, QB, Texas
I don’t like Colt McCoy as a prospect. I could be wrong, but I think he’s a mini-Kyle Orton. Having said that, he’s a great value toward the bottom of Round 3. He’s a natural fit for Cleveland’s West Coast offense, but why then did the Browns pass on him twice on Day 2? That’s the huge question. (Pick Grade: A)
Wow, I’d expect good ol’ Walter to slam this.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
my guess – value. maybe that expected him to fall?
Dawgger - April 23, 2010
Orton?
Could they be any more different in style?

Knowing McCoy would fall to #85:…………

Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
Rec!
BrownDawg1409 - April 23, 2010
Yes! Brilliant indeed! I think he is as good a prospect QB as any in this draft including Bradford. Bradford has a lot of downside risk with his injuries last year and lack of play. McCoy will have one of the best QB developers on the planet in his corner. Bravo Browns!
Brownsyup - April 23, 2010
The nice thing about taking him at 85 is that he can be a bust and it’s not a big deal. If they don’t like what they see then they can justify taking another QB next year.
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
McCoy 3- Bradford 1
Just saying.
the1austin - April 23, 2010
Super special awesome!
Now, that aside….how does this work with the first round barrier BK19 discovered?
BrownDawg1409 - April 23, 2010
Yahoo just compared him to Gradkowski. Eff that!
emily522 - April 23, 2010
ummm. he plays just like him? of course they compared the two of them
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
We gave up even value to move up and picked a physical/explosive RB and solidified our RB corps. Just like the Jets did for years under Mangini we will ALWAYS have a RB on the field who can break one.
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
Yahoo are a bunch of yahoos.

Buckeye Brad - April 23, 2010
Haha. A couple of my friends are taking Calc and they say it’s awful.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
I thought it was a lot easier than Pre-calc, actually.
And then I got to Ohio State and decided to try honors math…now I am an art student.

rufio - April 23, 2010
Wow, nice. I’m just hoping for a 3. Our class exam is tomorrow, not the actual AP. I could get like a 65 and still have a B- for the year.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
I am fairly hog certain I didn’t deserve a 5.
rufio - April 23, 2010
fairly hog certain would sound great in that twangy southern drawl of colt’s.
Dawg Nuts - April 23, 2010
Hahaha. It would.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
That test is pretty easy. I got a 5 without taking the class.
jaws. - April 23, 2010
i think i got a 3, but my teacher was awful and did not prepare us at all for it.
superbacker56 - April 23, 2010
When I took the test, AP had a deal where you could pay to take the AP government test and then take the AP comparative government test for free. So my entire class took the AP comparative government test without taking the class, which turned the thing into a big joke. In the end, though, I got a 5 in government and pulled off a miracle three in comparative government — I have no idea how this happened — and scored some extra credit hours for college.

Brownsyup - April 23, 2010
You know McCoy’s coming in with a chip on his shoulder if nothing else.
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
Yes, I am really hoping they can motivate him with his draft day fall.
rufio - April 23, 2010
Not saying that’s how it should be but that’s the reality of the situation. I mean Tim Tebow went in the 1st way ahead of him. I’d certainly feel like I had something to prove.
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
He’ll be motivated…just getting drafted is a huge honor. He is NOT the kind of kid that isn’t going to work his ass off and he knows why delomme and wallace are there…b/c they want him to learn, listen, and eventually take over…
johnnyphoenix - April 23, 2010
I’ve watched Colt McCoy since he first started at Texas and you would not believe the how much he has changed. I doubt yall need to worry about him working hard. He always works hard .I think back when Vince Young first left he walked into Greg Davis’s office(the oc at Texas) and said that he would be better than Vince Young. That kind of thing is rare for someone to say. Anyway…I suppose I’m rooting for both the bengals and the browns.

RyanBr - April 23, 2010
mays would not of been a good fit. he can’t cover anybody all that well
superbacker56 - April 23, 2010
I originally had us selecting Mays and San Francisco picking TJ but I understand their reasoning for the pick. TJ is versatile and can be moved around. He’s also really good in zone coverage. Something Mays hasn’t shown the ability to do.

Another Polynesian. Mangini had a say on this pick.
jaws. - April 23, 2010
I know even less. What the hell is his name?
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
Seriously. If I click a link or open another page my browser will crash.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
Shawn Lauvao
Arizona St. 6’2 7/8", 315lbs.
rufio - April 23, 2010
Thank you.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
Shawn Lauvao
Villeslgr - April 23, 2010
Thank you.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
We got a G from Arizona St. I’m good with that.
Buckeye Brad - April 23, 2010
Okay. I love this draft.
danvail - April 23, 2010
This.
Browns town - April 23, 2010
Seconded.
Brownsyup - April 23, 2010
Our Offensive Line is so sick. Like I said, run, run, run, run
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
Alright. OL
Brownie's Year - April 23, 2010
Nice.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
Was Philly eyeing him?
emily522 - April 23, 2010
They were. He’s a solid prospect. Excellent value for the 3rd round. Can play both sides. Strong kid. Good speed.
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
Looks like a solid guard to offset some of that nasty new Baltimore D-line.
Brownsyup - April 23, 2010

So many athletes on our O’Line
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
LOL TEBOW in the 1st. ha ha ha oh wow
johnnyphoenix - April 23, 2010
It’s still funny.
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
McCoy in the 3rd >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Tebow in the 1st
emily522 - April 23, 2010
I am now very, very happy with our draft…
johnnyphoenix - April 23, 2010
Don’t know much about Lauvao… hadn’t even heard of him until his name got called. But just some quick reading has made me like the pick.
emily522 - April 23, 2010
From Yahoo:
“A former left tackle who will make the move to guard at the next level. Is an above average athlete who can slide in space and his best football is still ahead of him.”
emily522 - April 23, 2010
I think we’re gonna run a lot.
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
its gonna be more than a lot
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
I’ll go with 80% run differential.
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
Lovely night.
Simmsinns - April 23, 2010
i know you can never have to many OLs. but isnt WR and Dline a biger problem?
nickmar19 - April 23, 2010
no
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
Agreed.
danvail - April 23, 2010
how?
nickmar19 - April 23, 2010
We have young talent at WR. We have a workable rotation at DL, though we could use depth and youth. OG is a need equal to or greater than DL.
Also, at this point, you aren’t filling holes anymore.
danvail - April 23, 2010
We’re drafting BPA, not filling holes.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
I am not so sure we are.
rufio - April 23, 2010
It sort of looks like we’re not, but I’m taking Heckert’s word for it. He said we’d be taking BPA.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
I think that’s true to a point, but with certain qualifiers. We wouldn’t take another RB, for instance. We have no damn room.
danvail - April 23, 2010
Yeah, definitely. We’re not taking anymore Backs.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
Did he ever come out and say that? The only thing I had read had said “we’d like to be able to go with the best available”, meaning that would be ideal but we might have too many bigtime needs.
rufio - April 23, 2010
I thought he said it after the Sheldon Brown trade. That bringing in Brown (and Delhomme anf Hillis, etc..) would let them go with the best player available. I could be wrong though (and my current computer situation makes it near impossible to fact check).
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
Yeah I don’t remember reading that but it was what I was hoping/thinking. I hope we weren’t reaching for need. It is a little coincidental that we ended up filling 4 of our biggest needs, though. I’m not complaining.
rufio - April 23, 2010
Ill trust Heckert in the late rounds at this point. I don’t hate any of our picks but I definitely don’t love the trade up for hardesty. This team must have really liked Lauvao for that right guard spot. Lets hope the strength coach does some good work with these guys.
Still would like to see a wideout. Andre Roberts was a steal for the cards, I think.
jaws. - April 23, 2010
Sort of, we’re drafting the BPA based on what we view as needs. The weird thing is, we’re actually considering “Need” as creating dominant sectors in our lineup. We looked to create a dominant DB situation. We did. We looked to create a dominant RB situation. We did. We looked to create a dominant Offensive Line and we did. And we got a hell of a QB prospect at 85 which won’t be considered a dismal failure if he busts.
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
unless they thought this olineman was soooo much better than any WR and dlineman left
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
“I know you can never have to many OLs”
So ya. Just stick with your first thought.
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
also…Kevin Curtis and Laveranues Coles are still available
I could see us bringing one of them in with the Curtis/Heckert and Coles/Mangini connections
Bumblyjack - April 23, 2010
That Andy Reid interview was the most awkward/pointless thing I have ever experienced.
DrewskiC - April 23, 2010
It was just great on mute.
Monsters of the Midway - April 23, 2010
And you’ve been listening to Mel Kiper, Chris Berman, and Steve Young stammering about for hours.
danvail - April 23, 2010
And that’s a wrap. Off to normal tv now.
Brownie's Year - April 23, 2010
unless we trade back into the third round?
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
I know this has been mentioned…but I have found the coverage on ESPN to be absolutely horrible. Jesus. That was completely unwatchable at points. Berman would just stare into the TV, 3 or 4 talking heads would say something irrelevant, they’d have a commercial and 3 picks later…we get more awkward moments with Berman!
DisplacedBuckeye - April 23, 2010
Radio Coverage > TV Coverage
Chris Pokorny - April 23, 2010
That’s they way I went.
BrownDawg1409 - April 23, 2010
Well, I’m outta here. I need to keep studying.
I’m very happy about our picks! I know earlier I was all pissy about Ward and Hardesty, but it was b/c I didn’t think we’d get Colt. Sorry if I annoyed some people by being like that.
After some reading though, I’m liking this draft. Hopefully we can get some steals in the 5th and 6th!
emily522 - April 23, 2010
Good luck.
danvail - April 23, 2010
Thanks!
emily522 - April 23, 2010
Glad your feeling better…you were getting a bit tense there…
johnnyphoenix - April 23, 2010
Haha yeah sorry about that!
emily522 - April 23, 2010
Well, I was never sold on Colt. Still think he’s way to small. And hated the idea of picking him at 38. BUT, love him at 85. And we all get to be happy now.
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
he’s an inch shorter and 7 lbs lighter than clausen. its not that big a deal.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
also, wikipedia already has him listed as a quarterback for the browns.
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
too bad we dont have any 4th round picks. lots of good prospects left
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
So THIS is what it’s like to have a competent FO!!!
BrownDawg1409 - April 23, 2010
what the patriots just did.. this is exactly what im talking about!!!!! trade thirds this year for seconds next year!
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
Except we just got Colt McCoy with our third rounder. Anyone NOT okay with that should really think about getting their head checked.
DisplacedBuckeye - April 23, 2010
i respect your opinion. not what i would have done with that pick though
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
maybe i need my head checked, lol
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
im always trying to think ahead… could have traded a couple of our third rounders for seconds next year… then packaged them next year to trade up high in the first round… then got jake locker, ryan mallet, whoever the top qb is next year… instead, we’ll be trying to develop this guy while some other teams are drafting these guys
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
Crap the saints took Jimmy Graham
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
anyone else here am i in the right thread this time?
Browns87 - April 23, 2010
it depends, were you looking for the gay japanese magician thread?
Dawg Nuts - April 23, 2010
i know i was!
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
Do not do a bing image search for that. I wanted to post a funny picture and well. . .
Villeslgr - April 23, 2010
hilarious!
Dawg Nuts - April 23, 2010
dont think i saw a single magician…….well maybe i did
superbacker56 - April 23, 2010
Excellent.

Bernie19Kosar - April 23, 2010
Paging Doctor Faggot!
TheRealSlimShady - April 24, 2010
i totally agree with u on the colt was a steal in the 3rd round
Browns87 - April 23, 2010
I actually think this was the area where he was supposed to be drafted. He only seemed to shoot up the draft boards after Kiper began hyping him up, other than that he was always considered a 3rd round pick
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
that’s what i was thinking
Villeslgr - April 23, 2010
He was always a 3rd round value pick.
gentryholdem - April 23, 2010
i know i said it up above, but i’m happy i get to continue my colt mccoy fandom
coltmccoyisbeast
notthatnoise - April 23, 2010
poor mayock
Matt Y. - April 23, 2010
who had undersized hands was it mccoy or was it clausen?
Browns87 - April 23, 2010
Clausen does, at least. I don’t know about McCoy. Tebow has large hands.
Matt Y. - April 23, 2010
McCoy’s are 9.4, Clausen’s 9.0
It really doesn’t matter.
rufio - April 23, 2010
what time does the 4-7 rounds start 2morrow?
Browns87 - April 23, 2010
Take whatever Chris says and subtract a half hour.
golanbatrac - April 23, 2010
Rec
Chris Pokorny - April 23, 2010
thx rufio that is inch’s abt there hand size correct?
Browns87 - April 23, 2010
Yes, inches. Please use the reply button when you want to reply to someone. Thanks.
rufio - April 23, 2010
lol well i didnt hear chris so that doesnt really help me out
Browns87 - April 23, 2010
nvm 10 am i got it thx though
Browns87 - April 23, 2010
The gf just traded her BQ jersey for a Colt McCoy jersey, is fully enthused about it, and she is an ND alum! ….I fully approve.
jharbdo - April 23, 2010
There are some good TE’s left on the board — Hernandez, Pitta, Dickerson. I’d love to get one of them but we’d probably have to trade up to the 4th.
Buckeye Brad - April 23, 2010
I think WR is a bigger need too. We need a slot guy with some speed. If Robo and MoMass are going to play on the outside we could use a speedy guy in the slot to stretch the defense.
jaws. - April 23, 2010
…except that goes away from our identity as a power running team. Why split the guy out wide when you can’t run from the spread (because of our personnel, not trying to get into the college offense stuff right now)?
Ben Watson is our guy to stretch the middle of the field. Versatility and multiplicity mean nothing if the defense knows what you are doing when you line up in a certain formation. Maybe if we had the most success from 3-wide sets we would need a speedy slot guy. We got the guy we needed (Watson), a slot WR would be just a bonus.
rufio - April 24, 2010
what? you can run from 3 wide with no college trickeration or anything. If you have a slot receiver, especially one who is really fast, the defense generally has to put a nickelback on the field to cover him. This, in turn takes one of the front 7 out of the box, letting you run more effectively. You can be a power running team from whatever formations and personnel groupings you want.
We could have plenty of success out of 3 wide receiver formations if we had any receivers, right now I’d like to see us come away with at least one, and I wouldn’t mind if it was Jacoby Ford.
jaws. - April 24, 2010
WE can’t run from 3-wide.
The Browns’ personnel. Not some hypothetical in a vacuum theory.
Drafting Jacoby Ford wouldn’t change that. Really good play from Delhomme might, but I’m not counting on that.
rufio - April 24, 2010
rufio - April 24, 2010
I don’t know why but I feel like Ben Watson is the guy who’s going to disappoint this year.
skipkirk - April 24, 2010
if i had to pick one of the newcomers, i would say Fujita. just my gut.
notthatnoise - April 24, 2010
I am expecting very little from Fujita, and that’s from a Fujita fan.
rufio - April 24, 2010
same, i like the guy a lot, but my expectations are very, very low.
notthatnoise - April 25, 2010
He won’t have to show up in the box score to make a big impact.
rufio - April 24, 2010
I like Pitta a lot but he’ll probably be gone. But didn’t we get a TE in free agency?
Brownsyup - April 23, 2010
yea we signed watson. Between him and evan moore we’re not drafting another TE
The Licensed Pessimist - April 23, 2010
anyone know a good website for are draft grade fro rounds 1-3 so far besides cbs and draftcountdown.com
Browns87 - April 23, 2010
Everson Griffen we all know is still on the board, but I forgot about Terrence Cody. Some were projecting him as a late first-rounder also.
Matt Y. - April 23, 2010
i think the ravens took cody?
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
yep, they took cody in the second round
RyanBr - April 23, 2010
oh, my bad. nevermind then.
