Our draft board will be a ranking of the players that are draft eligible, from best to worst. It should also take need, value, and character into account--if you think these things should be taken into account at all. If you always want the best player available, just rank them from best to worst.
For more information, see the initial Big Board post.
Rank the top five available players. Take talent, value, need, and character into account if you think the Browns should take these things in to account when drafting.
Players will receive 5 points for every first place vote, 4 for every second place, and so on. They will receive 0 points if they are unranked. Total points from all ballots will be added, and the 5 players with the most votes will be taken out of the pool of available players and put up on the big board.
This is not a mock draft.
Don't predict what will happen
Don't think about other teams
Don't worry about who is available. Assume everyone you can vote for is available. (I will take players out of the vote-able pool once we put them on the board)
Just rank your guys in the order you would like to see them drafted by the Browns.
For instance, I think the top five players purely in terms of talent are:
1. Ndamukong Suh, DT
2. Eric Berry, S
3. Gerald McCoy, DT
4. Sam Bradford, QB
5. Anthony Davis, OT
Because of need, value, and character, my first ballot will look like this:
1. Suh
2. Berry
3. Bradford
4. Earl Thomas
5. Rolando McClain
Please vote only once.
Using the Scouts Inc. rankings (yes, I am aware of how much you hate Todd McShay) I will compile a pool of 25 draft eligible players. We will take a poll and rank players five at a time. New polls will happen every two days or so until the draft.
If there are players you think I should include in the draft-eligible pool--especially if they aren't coming up in McShay's rankings, let me know and I will put them in for the next poll. Thanks for voting!

I hope to speed up the voting process this week (each individual poll might only be up for a day or so), so make sure to get your votes in!

Of this list:
-Jimmy Clausen…the hottest quarterback this year
-Colt McCoy…probably the best leader at quarterback this year, tools are improvable
-Dan Williams…best big guy for d-line from your first round lineup
-Golden Tate…good flanker…goal getter, sticky hands
-Jahvid Best…pretty good tailback (that´s with a fullback in all situations), speedier than anyone we have now

You could make the case for Odrick being the best DL, assuming Suh ang McCoy you aren’t in the discussion
AG7 - April 19, 2010
I would say Odrick is almost defensive end proportioned for an inside the offensive tackle defensive end. He does look very strong.
mooncamping has always declared that if you play the 3-4 with the defensive linemen between the offensive tackles to dominate the line of scrimmage and defeat the run through misalignments and chaos, that you might as well use three defensive tackle proportioned defensive linemen, with maybe a slightly beastlier Nose Guard in the middle, thus my leaning towards Dan Williams given your list.
If you like your outside defensive linemen in the 3-4 inside or outside the offensive tackles based on occasion, you might make a case for Ahtyba Rubin and Jared Odrick as the outside defensive tackles/ends.
Sean Rogers, although not the prototype as for example Chris Zorich was, it the best Nose Guard in the NFL, even at, what is he? 6foot5.
So:
DT Ahtyba Rubin
NG Sean Rogers
DT Jared Odrick
might be kind of spiffy.
mooncamping - April 20, 2010
Odrick isn’t really a guy that falls into a class with Rubin and Rogers. He’s much more agile. He played DT in a 4-3 and looked somewhat like an end. He’s a very strong, physical guy, but he isn’t the size of a Rogers or Rubin.
AG7 - April 20, 2010
That may be.
But in my schematic, he would qualify.
Arrelious Benn is also a decent flanker, so that makes it:
-Jimmy Clausen
-Colt McCoy
-Dan Williams
-Jared Odrick
-Golden Tate
-Arrelious Benn
-Jahvid Best
from the list.
mooncamping - April 21, 2010
Decent. Not freaky, though.
johnnyphoenix - April 24, 2010
Dan Williams is better IMO.

Pouncey

I’m surprised Griffen is slipping so far down. Getting him in the second would be pretty cool.

I don’t know who any of these people are anymore…
SpecialBrownie - April 19, 2010
Ha, me either.

I know a couple, but only because I’ve been following Don Banks’s Mock Draft religiously.
BrownDawg1409 - April 19, 2010
There are only a handful that I still recognize as well.

Ugh. Several of the guys in this list would not even be on my board because they do not fit our defensive scheme:
DT Brian Price – not a 3- 4 DE or a 3-4 NT
LB Navorro Bowman – not suited for ILB or OLB in a 3-4
DE/OLBs that would be a liability in coverage and therefore not the versatile type we want in our version of the 3-4:
Everson Griffen
Jerry Hughes
Thaddeus Gibson
Koa Misi
Eric Norwood
Bumblyjack - April 19, 2010
I disagree on Thad and Koa.
Thad played the DE/OLB role at OSU called the Leo. Here is a scouting report on him
Here are some exerpts about Misi
Also, in the mid-rounds (3rd and 4th) it is unrealistic to expect to find a guy to fit a 3-4 that has experience in coverage at OLB AND can rush the QB. Thad is one of the few with significant experience standing up.
Griffen I agree with b/c he is a first rounder and Hughes, you have a point about.
bross09 - April 19, 2010
I’m not sold on these OLB’s ability to handle pure man coverage but there is potential that they can. To be honest, I’m not sure about Sergio Kindle either. Last year we passed on Orakpo and it may have been for this reason or because of our huge need at C.
My guess is that the coaches observed each of these guys in drills on multiple occasions and that maybe one or two of them on my list passed the test. I think Ricky Sapp and O’Brien Schofield might be better fits for our defense but they are less talented as pass rushers and have injury concerns.
Bumblyjack - April 20, 2010
I agree that the coaches looked and probably have a better Idea.
I disagree on sapp beign a good fit really. he isn’t much of a player against the run and is also untested in coverage. a phrase I have heard describe him that fits is he is much more of an athlete than football player. He just always seemed to underachieve even when healthy.
but I will trust the coaches who have seen these guys in coverage drills.
bross09 - April 20, 2010
O’Brien Schofield is, in my opinion, be a really good player.
Bernie19Kosar - April 20, 2010
Disagree 100% on Price, I know I am in the minority.
Just because he was asked to do different things at UCLA doesn’t mean that he can’t do them here. I believe he has the best first step in the draft, yes over McCoy, and he has no problem taking on and defeating double teams. He can anchor in against the run and play two gaps.
Is he perfect for the 3-4? Probably not, but IMO he is too great of a talent to pass up.
Bernie19Kosar - April 20, 2010
I agree 100% that he is very talented, but I would understand if the Holmgren/Heckert takes him off their board if they don’t think he would fit in our defense. The question is whether they think he fits or not.
If we are picking at #40 and he’s on the board though, I hope we either take him or trade down with a team that wants him: we could probably get a first round pick next year from them. So, I guess that makes him one of my top 40 players.
Bumblyjack - April 20, 2010
Thats fine. All draft eligible guys go into the pool of available players as McShay has them ranked (unless there is a demand for the player that has been made clear to me).
If you don’t think those guys can play in a 3-4, don’t vote for em, and tell people why like you did.
At some point, they become worth it, IMO. If that point is in round 4, then they don’t go on the board until about 120th.
I personally agree on Griffen and Misi, but disagree on Norwood and Gibson. I would draft Hughes based on his athleticism and pass rushing alone and hope he could be in some kind of coverage even if it made us predictable in the short term. Price, I think would be better suited to play in a 4-3, but could play for us (he just wouldn’t be worth the pick it required to get him).
