Our Draft Board

Our draft board will be a ranking of the players that are draft eligible, from best to worst.  It should also take need, value, and character into account--if you think these things should be taken into account at all.  If you always want the best player available, just rank them from best to worst.

For more information, see the initial Big Board post.

Instructions

Rank the top five available players. Take talent, value, need, and character into account if you think the Browns should take these things in to account when drafting.

Players will receive 5 points for every first place vote, 4 for every second place, and so on.  They will receive 0 points if they are unranked.  Total points from all ballots will be added, and the 5 players with the most votes will be taken out of the pool of available players and put up on the big board.

This is not a mock draft.

Don't predict what will happen

Don't think about other teams

Don't worry about who is available. Assume everyone you can vote for is available.  (I will take players out of the vote-able pool once we put them on the board)

Just rank your guys in the order you would like to see them drafted by the Browns.

For instance, I think the top five players purely in terms of talent are:

1. Ndamukong Suh, DT

2. Eric Berry, S

3. Gerald McCoy, DT

4. Sam Bradford, QB

5. Anthony Davis, OT

Because of need, value, and character, my first ballot will look like this:

1. Suh

2. Berry

3. Bradford

4. Earl Thomas

5. Rolando McClain

Please vote only once.

Using the Scouts Inc. rankings (yes, I am aware of how much you hate Todd McShay) I will compile a pool of 25 draft eligible players.  We will take a poll and rank players five at a time. New polls will happen every two days or so until the draft.

If there are players you think I should include in the draft-eligible pool--especially if they aren't coming up in McShay's rankings, let me know and I will put them in for the next poll.  Thanks for voting!

How far will our draft board go? 50?

I officially drafted positions for the last two on this section, not knowing anything of value about the remainder of players.

this happened to me after about 10-15 players. i still know a good deal of these names and players, but i wouldn’t be able to rank them on anything other than gut feeling.

Ideally to 50, yes. That’s what we did last year.

Is there a link somewhere?

Hadn’t joined that time yet and it would be cool to see the old board.

Boom.

Interesting stuff

Wow Alex Mack at 22. You guys weren’t too far off with Robiskie and Massaqoui either.

Now if we could only get Lerner to answer our calls!

Colt Mccoy is not a top21 player

That is not what we are trying to accomplish. We are trying to combine both player’s overall talent along with Browns needs.

Him over Dan Williams or Tony Davis is ridiculus though

Why?

We have a Pro Bowler at NT and a Pro Bowler at LT.

For the Browns it makes complete sense. For the Bronco’s, I am not sure.

Isn’t the theory that the Pro Bowler is going to be moved to DE while NT is manned by another very qualified player?

Count me in the camp that still wants Rogers at NT for the majority of the time.

I don’t really know about that. Weren’t we better defensively with Rubin than Rodgers at NT? Wasn’t there the theory thath Rubin plays his assignments and Rodgers is more of a free-lancer-do-what-it-takes kinda guy?

Too small of a sample size to judge. Not saying Rubin isn’t good, but to believe at this stage that Rubin is better than Rogers is farfetched.

it would still be nice to have downs where we playr rubin and rogers at NT and DE.

Yes, we were better with Rubin at nose. And Holmgren and Co. agree (if you can believe anything printed in the Plain Dealer).

Our whole team played better with Rubin at nose, but whether or not our improvement was because of Rubin or just a coincidence is up for debate.

We played really well defensively in a few games (with Rogers at nose) that don’t often get mentioned because our defense played great for 3 quarters, then checked out mentally/got tired while our offense displayed it’s ineptitude.

Like the Denver game, or to a lesser extent the Minnesota game. Or the 2nd Baltimore game.

Shaun rogers is going to have to change his game quite a bit to succeed in our defense. Guy needs to stop trying to make big “glory” plays like pass rushes to be the nose tackle. Either he is going to get moved out to DE (where he will still have to conform to the program) or get sent packing to a 4-3 team.

In our scheme the 0 technique absolutely has to ignore any form of glory and making a big play in favor of just doing his sometimes thankless job. in a nutshell the nose must prevent the tag block and the jump-thru at all costs. He must not get pushed out of his gap responsibility (even if the offense double teams) and he must not let one of those blockers move up to the linebackers (tag block). This is his responsibility. I don’t think Rogers wants to do the thankless job of 3-4 defensive lineman when he could be a more glorified 4-3 lineman where they are asked to fire through gaps and blow over the offensive lineman in pass rush mode. Essentially the same problem corey williams had.

Shaun Rogers has already had success in our defense.

Who knows what happens to Rogers and dan Williams is a hell of a player Davis would also be great at RT or RG

Who knows what happens to Rogers? Really? Did he do something else that I didn’t hear about?

In all likelihood end up being a slap on the wrist. Maybe suspended one game by the NFL (and I think that is a stretch).

It’s an aggregate of a couple hundred votes. The order won’t always end up making sense.

I think over Williams, yes, Davis is high risk IMO, so no.

Why Pouncey over Davis? Mack daddy has u covered. Can’t say the same about pashos

Pouncey could play any interior position.

As a guard he is nothing special

Not to be a jerk, but how can you say this?

Are you basing it off his freshman season where he started there?

What makes you think he is “nothing special” at guard?

Fill me in, cuz I’ve never heard of him unless he’s the guy Don Banks has been projecting to go to the Steelers until as of late.

Center. Florida. Beast. He’ll be a ten year starter at any of the interior line positions.

Character concerns. I keep telling everyone there is no way we take anybody with any obvious character concerns.

Weatherspoon

Gresham

Davis

Griffen

Pouncey

I picked Jahvid Best at 25. He’s a good back and I give him some credit.
*Pac-10 homer. :)

I would have voted for Best a while ago, but his injuries terrify me.

Injuries? Worse than Beanies’s?

thats probably the same reason beanie was picked near the back end of the top 30…injuries. so having best at 25 doesn’t seem that insane (but beanie might be a better player)

I consider that concussion that kept him out several weeks to be much scarier than anything Beanie ever suffered. Beanie had a long list of what seemed like nagging, small injuries. Best has suffered some pretty serious injuries that have kept him out substantial periods of time:

2007: Misses three games with hip injury. 2008: Misses spring practices with hip injury. Dislocates left elbow and misses Arizona state game. 2009: Misses spring practices recovering from foot and elbow surgeries. Misses practice time with a toe injury during preseason. Sustains a concussion and injures his back during Oregon State game, misses the final three games of the season.

Just pointing this out but the last two draft boards have had the same title.

Just saying.
