Seriously, who didn't see this coming?
With a healthy bonus coming on March 19th, the Browns decided to cut former starter Derek Anderson. It was going to be impossible to get anything in trade because the NFL knew it was just a matter of time before Anderson was going to be axed by the Browns.
All in all it was a wild ride with DA. Big arm, questionable decision making and for one afternoon against the Chiefs, feet of Fred Astaire.
So long DA, and remember your personal mantra, if you can't throw it as hard as you possibly can, it isn't worth throwing.
I once had a guinea pig that I loved very much. We once almost made it on David Lettermans stupid pet tricks since we was able to roll over and play dead. Anyway, he got old and was sick for a long time before he finally kicked the bucket. That morning I was more numb then sad since I had been expecting it for awhile, and while a bummer, it did not come as a great shock.
That pretty much is how I feel about this. Only Anderson is way bigger than my guinea pig.
Oh, and I spent $35 dollars on his signed rookie card in 2007. I regret that too.

Bernie19Kosar - March 9, 2010
i cant help but remember when Savage had the entire browns scouting department in a bar on foxsports ohio in may of 2008 for a pubic town hall meeting. one of the audience members stood up & asked who was going to be the starting QB & Savage looked at the scouting department & they kinda looked at each other before answering “Anderson”.
then he looked at joe thomas & a couple other players & Thomas didnt exactly know what to say until Savage prompted him……In hindsight it was pretty ominous

Couldn’t resist.
I wish DA well. He’ll be a solid backup on a much better team (Colts?). I guess we can thank him for 2007 (minus his collapse) and not much else.
emily522 - March 9, 2010
I remember sitting in the Dawg Pound during the Niners game that year and being pissed at all the people holding up “In Sorgi We Trust” signs. I put a lot of blame on DA for that. 2007 is kind of like buying a Porche but never being allowed to put gas into it. No prize without the juice.
nosey313 - March 9, 2010
Next stop for DA, Oakland Raiders
rockybrown - March 9, 2010
actually with the way Al Davis likes speed, Anderson could just launch the ball downfield every play to 4.2sec/40yd dash wide receivers. Match in heaven

Good luck in the future
cadfile - March 9, 2010
Derek, have fun in Arizona…think of it this way, you will probably start b/c Matt Leinart is horrible and its sunshine all year buddy!
Kimble_79 - March 9, 2010
Are you Adam Schefter? This is his guess also.
I know that AZ was rumored to be interested in trading for DA, so this makes sense.
Bernie19Kosar - March 9, 2010
I was under the impression that Carolina might be a better fit. Better O-line, great running game….division opponents that arn’t ranked in the top 3 in every category every year…
BrownDawg1409 - March 9, 2010
i think that KC tendering Brodie Croyle at second round status is trade bate for teams like Carolina and Arizona especially where Haley has connections. I dont think anyone will bring in DA if theyre looking for someone to compete for a starting spot, he’d be more valuable as a back up behind a comfortable starter. in my opinion anyways. but what do i know?
troy145 - March 9, 2010
it just baffles me that anyone who saw him play for us the past couple of seasons would pay anything more than league minimum for him. i guess there’s always an idiot in every crowd though.
Dawg Nuts - March 9, 2010
yeah thats kind of what im saying. I dont think anyone’s dumb enough to think he could be anything more than a clipboard holder, and i think Carolina and Az are both looking for guys who can come in and compete for a starting job immediately.
troy145 - March 9, 2010
Yeah, according to Rotoworld Wire DA’s expected to go to Carolina or Arizona.
emily522 - March 9, 2010
And Carolina comes to Cleveland this year
You guys are scared he’s going to roll you are you?
Jaxon - March 10, 2010

notthatnoise - March 10, 2010
as somebody stated in here…our secondary could use him as good practice when he throws 2 ints to Wright and another 2 to Haden or Berry….ha
Kimble_79 - March 10, 2010
I always preferred his missiles to MLBs. At least when he threw a 40 yard interception it was just a bad punt on second down. The 5 yard pass to a LB-in-zone’s numbers for the pick six was just something I’m going to miss.
danvail - March 10, 2010

To all those who wanted to sign Thomas Jones, I have bad news.
He has signed with KC for 2 years, 5 million dollars.
I am very surprised at how low those numbers are.
Bernie19Kosar - March 9, 2010
I would have been all over that if I’m the Browns. I liked Jones, but his position is hardly one to fill, especially for what the Browns are looking for.
gahnki - March 9, 2010
Just thinking out loud here, but I bet the trepidation regarding Jones is his hands. The Browns offense, if it does go to a more WC style, will use backs in the passing game more. Jones probably doesn’t fit what they are looking for, which makes the lack of interest completely understandable.
gahnki - March 9, 2010
yes. and personally, I would not want to sign him to a multi-year deal.
bross09 - March 9, 2010
I wouldn’t think 2 years would be that bad.
Villeslgr - March 9, 2010
I do. I don’t think he has 2 years left in the tank.
bross09 - March 9, 2010
Get a year out of him, see if he has anything left if not cut him. I don’t think he would have signed a one year deal.
Villeslgr - March 9, 2010
well…then I would not have wanted him…but then you cut him and you have the back end of a deal that definitely isn’t small and you have to take the cap hit when the cap is likely back.
bross09 - March 9, 2010
Well if you are smart and you are signing a guy to a two year deal and you are worried about their durability, then you would not make the back end large, especially when the first year is an uncapped year.
Villeslgr - March 10, 2010
yes. if that is the case, it isn’t a bad move…I just don’t know the specifics and breakdown of the year…
maybe the team isn’t worried about durability.
bross09 - March 10, 2010
More than likely it’s what gahnki pointed out
Villeslgr - March 10, 2010

BrownDawg1409 - March 9, 2010
Fitz’s year was average.
SpecialBrownie - March 9, 2010
Average sure, but that’s not the curse. The curse is:
1) Featured player will get hurt. Ex) Troy Polomalu……. :)
2) Player’s stats will suffer severly due to injury.
I suppose Fitzgerald would go here then….
3) Player’s team misses playoffs………..just like the Steelers. <3
BrownDawg1409 - March 9, 2010
Isn’t it funny that something so silly, can be so true? It’s too weird.
Fitz got lucky because the curse chose the dude with the dumbest hair and went with it.
Brownie's Year - March 9, 2010
In other words, all we have to do (should Cribbs actually make the cover) is convince EA Sports to host someone with hair that’s more ridiculous than his.
BrownDawg1409 - March 9, 2010
I meant dumbest out of the 2 on the cover. hehe
Brownie's Year - March 9, 2010
No the idea is being hurt or having a very off year, such as Ray Lewis did.
SpecialBrownie - March 9, 2010
Usually, the off year is a result of the player getting hurt. That player is usually an impact player for that team. Impact player is gone, team struggles, doesn’t make playoffs.
The only team to avoid all three parts of the curse were the 06 Seahawks (the year Alexander broke his hand, and I think possibly his foot). One year removed from breaking a record, and he goes down. Never the same since.
BrownDawg1409 - March 9, 2010

I’m kinda ashamed to admit I was one of them….the booing part, not the drunken part, though that game was so bad, I wish I were.
BrownDawg1409 - March 10, 2010
See I believe that sometimes people also get into a crowd setting like that and go along with their surroundings. Since you were there would you mind describing the reaction to Anderson’s injury since I was only watching on TV?
Roger Dorn - March 10, 2010
People were basically calling for Ken Dorsey to come out because we were tired of watching Anderson. I like to think that we weren’t neccesarily cheering because Anderson got hurt, but that he was finally going to leave the game.
Everyone was all “Now we can win, because we have Dorsey! Dorseys a hundred times better!”
BrownDawg1409 - March 10, 2010
See Derek’s problem is everything is about him, his feelings, and his opportunity. I doubt anyone sincerely wanted the man to suffer injury (at least for more than a few drunken hours). Fans just wanted him pulled because his AWFUL play was drastically hurting our chances to win. Fans cheered because he was not quarterbacking, not because he got hurt.
You are not entitled to be a starting NFL quarterback, Derek. It is not a birthright. It’s one of the most competitive jobs on the planet, and you couldn’t hack it. GTFO.

tribe71 - March 10, 2010
I am so glad I stopped in here before lapsing into unconsciousness tonight. I will go to bed smiling and wake up the same way tomorrow morning. Even with DA’s pathetic year, I didn’t wish him any hard luck elsewhere until I started reading his quotes:
Which is clearly why we should have retained you and your historically awful level of performance, Mr. Fire Away and Then Pray. Good riddance, bad and overpriced rubbish.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - March 10, 2010
When the fans cheer that he suffered a season-ending knee injury...
….do you really blame him?
Twon82 - March 10, 2010
We don’t “deserve a winner” because of the drunken activities of a few hundred idiots on one occasion? If that’s what he was getting it, then yes, I do blame him, actually.
Really though, the bottom line is that he was absolutely pathetic last year and way overpriced to boot. Now he’s whining about the natural resolution to those facts. Boo hoo. Go throw awful passes somewhere else, DA.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - March 10, 2010
but like people here have said, that really didn’t happen…it is a pussy just whining and moaning.
bross09 - March 10, 2010
It’s been well documented here that the vast majority of us thought cheering when he got injured (or when anyone gets injured for that matter) was/is disgustingly horrible…
..just like the vast majority of Browns fans did not actually cheer when he got injured. If he wants to blow things out of proportion and lump several hundred thousand people in with a few hundred drunk people, that’s not cool.
rufio - March 10, 2010
exactly. I think I remember people cheering but it didn’t at all sound like the whole stadium was…I think the whole thing was out of frustration of his play. on DAs part, it is irresponsible IMO. Instead of taking responsibility for his bad play, he lashes out and says he never got the support from the fans. he made up stories and concocted theories that weren’t there, just to try to clear his responsibility in his dreadful play.
from what I remember, the fans did support DA when he was doing well. granted, when he was dreadful and losing games, the fans didn’t like him, but that was understandable. blowing something out of proportion and making false statements does not clear you of blame Mr. Anderson.
bross09 - March 10, 2010
He must have learned that from Braylon.
North Coast Flea - March 10, 2010
yep…
the problem is both have larger ego’s than they should and are immature. I come to this by the fact that neither could accept that it was their fault that their play suffered. braylon blamed his gloves. they both blamed the fans. if you read the post, DA was in a way saying that he was doomed to fail in cleveland because the fans always hated him. he made up stories and latched on to things (that didn’t really exist) like the fans booing when he got injured. you notice that he really doesn’t talk about how it was really his fault that he failed.
braylon did the same thing. he said because he was from michigan, the fans hated him and he could never succeed here.
these are classic cases of immaturity. these men cannot take responsibility for their own actions. I recognize this because I used to be one of the worst offenders. in High School i could never accept responsibility. however, by around the time I was 18, I really started to break the habit. hopefully these MEN break the habit soon.

Roger Dorn - March 10, 2010
Sorry, I lost my Dawgpound swagger. Haven’t been here in a while.
Mr MaLoR - March 10, 2010
Too short a time period.
woodsmeister - March 10, 2010
Good luck Derek Anderson! I give you a mucho starting endorsement for anywhere other than Cleveland, to include survival onto an expansion team in the near future.
Eric Mangini didn´t polish the gem you are, maybe someone will. I know that´s funny to say that to a five year veteran. But just like David Carr, someone can make that work.
mooncamping - March 10, 2010
this is one of the most ridiculous things you’ve ever said, moon. If DA is any kind of mineral, he isn’t a gem; he’s pyrite – fools gold. for awhile you think you have a valuable commodity, only to realize you have a worthless rock.
Dawg Nuts - March 10, 2010
they talked on here about creating a “dumbest comment of the week” spot on DB. After that comment we also need a “greatest comment of the week”. Love it
Kimble_79 - March 10, 2010
Oohh rec for a pyrite reference.
danvail - March 10, 2010
Did you know that baby powder is really the mineral Talc?
You’re rubbing rocks on your baby’s ass.
SpecialBrownie - March 10, 2010
Just pure talc? I’d have expected there to be something else there.
danvail - March 10, 2010
That’s why it’s also known as Talcum powder.
SpecialBrownie - March 10, 2010
this has to be a line in a barry white song somewhere.
Dawg Nuts - March 10, 2010
REC
golanbatrac - March 12, 2010
yeah, the opportunity doesn’t come along often, when it does you have to seize it.
Dawg Nuts - March 10, 2010
A former co-worker of mine imparted this piece of wisdom, “you can’t polish a turd.”
ouched - March 10, 2010
yes you can!

notthatnoise - March 10, 2010
and that was quite interesting to watch.
bross09 - March 10, 2010
will not watch
Villeslgr - March 10, 2010
its mythbusters
notthatnoise - March 10, 2010
And I second that endorsement. And I recommend that you take less money to start for a team in the Browns’ division. My dream is that DA start for the Steelers and that Trent Dilfer start for the Ravens.
elsandito - March 10, 2010
And Carson Palmer stays with the Bengals?
North Coast Flea - March 10, 2010
Jeff Garcia.
SpecialBrownie - March 10, 2010
spergeon wynn.
Dawg Nuts - March 10, 2010
I can’t get worked up about the Bengals. The seem harmless most of the time and typically self destruct.
elsandito - March 10, 2010
I wasn’t asking Ironically, I think he’s crap since the leg injury, I just thought it was funny that he didn’t even register to mention.
North Coast Flea - March 10, 2010
Actually, that might be one of your most sublime posts… Love it!
Spidey - March 10, 2010 via mobile
Just wanted two let everyone know about two red-flags for prospects:
1. Rolando McClain has Cron’s disease
2. Tony Washington (OT/OG that Rufio liked) is a sex offender because he had sex with his biological sister. Sadly, this isn’t a typo.
TheRealSlimShady - March 10, 2010
Oh. My. God. (to the second one)
emily522 - March 10, 2010
Isn’t Crohn’s, the inability to control your colon or something to that effect?
SpecialBrownie - March 10, 2010
No. it attacks the gastrointestinal tract and system and causes inflammation. It is classified as an inflamatory bowel disease but affects areas besides the bowels, and is usually more prevalent in those areas.
bross09 - March 10, 2010
Okay. I am not touching Washington with a 10 foot pole b/c that is just disgusting.
Now with McClain, I worry a bit and his stock will drop, but I am not completely scared. there is no cure for Crohns but it is not life threatening. It can affect lifestyle of a person but mostly in diet. many people with Crohns lead very normal lives. The one thing that happens to many though is fatigue but this can be cured with proper exercise.
David Garrard had it and he had in fact a particularly bad case. however, he has been able to play in the NFL and it has not hindered him significantly. It can definitely be debilitating in your lifestyle but It is a very managable disease.
bross09 - March 10, 2010
McClain was looking like he was in pain after position drills and he said his Cron’s was acting up.
TheRealSlimShady - March 10, 2010
yes. It can cause abdominal pain, but it can be managable. the problem is the unpredictability of it. as a disease it is very managable but has the semi-occasional flareup.
bross09 - March 10, 2010
My best friend has Crons. With the proper meds it’s pretty much a non factor, so he says.
Brownie's Year - March 10, 2010
yep. my cousin has it. you are pretty much right…you also need to change your diet, but it is a managable disease.
bross09 - March 10, 2010
2. And the thing about Washington, while it’s disgusting and wrong, it was consensual (eww) and they were both under 18.
TheRealSlimShady - March 10, 2010
yeah…ewww…and funny enough, he went to a parochial college.
bross09 - March 10, 2010
WTF!
emily522 - March 10, 2010
I’d rather die from Crons than sleep with my sister.
Brownie's Year - March 10, 2010
I’m glad to hear that.
emily522 - March 10, 2010
that qualifies as the strangest post I have ever seen on here….LOL
Kimble_79 - March 11, 2010
Sadly, I wasn’t joking. I am extremely disgusted with this Washington guy.
Brownie's Year - March 11, 2010
except that it isn’t life threatening…but still, i agree.
bross09 - March 11, 2010
my wife was asking what I was laughing about, then I told her the “Crons than sleep with my sister” thing. I just got the strangest look I have ever seen her have towards me….lmao
Kimble_79 - March 11, 2010
Well, cross him off my board. Barring some ridiculously outlandish circumstances (i.e. someone kidnapped him, drugged him, had a gun to his head, sent him to Mars…)
rufio - March 11, 2010
He’d fit right in with the Steelers.
golanbatrac - March 11, 2010
depending on the age of his sister (<20) he and Ben may fight over her
Kimble_79 - March 11, 2010
Washington — “Back off Porky, she’s mine!!”
Brownie's Year - March 11, 2010
Actually, I don’t believe him. If he really thought we didn’t deserve a winner then he would have stayed.
johnnyphoenix - March 10, 2010
Excellent.
emily522 - March 10, 2010
Wow, ouch.
Roger Dorn - March 10, 2010
Burn.
emily522 - March 10, 2010
i like this a lot.
Dawg Nuts - March 11, 2010
High five!

I had a bad feeling borat was coming.
bross09 - March 13, 2010
It could have been worse.
Brownie's Year - March 13, 2010
Aw, I feel kinda bad for him.
emily522 - March 13, 2010
I do too, his whole team left him hangin.
