I generally don’t like taking receivers in the top ten, unless they are a truly special talent. They’re just too dependent on the rest of the team, and if you’re picking in the top ten, the rest of your team is not very good.

Just so you know...
i’m not trying to throw water on the Eric Berry parade but i realized this morning that Seattle could be a major factor in CLE trying to get him. When Pete Carroll took over the Seahawks he retained DC Gus Bradley who was recommended to the post (for Mora’s staff) last year by Monte Kiffin. Kiffin of course was Berry’s DC at Tennessee last year & the Seahawks are retaining the basic Cover-2 system for 2010 its the offense that is expected to be overhauled. Another factor is the fact that SEA only has 2 Safeties on their roster at the moment. Yes i realized that Carrol could opt for Mays with his 2nd pick & go a variety of ways with #6 but i just wanted to float that out for everyone.

Washington needs an Offensive tackle or a QB, vastly more important positions than safety. Berry would be a stupid pick for them.
Kansas City has a need for the position and could take berry. However Scott Pioli is a huge believer in positional value and loves to make sure his offensive line is done before anything else. He could take an Offensive tackle and upgrade 3 positions on his offensive line at once. I heavily doubt that he would draft a safety so high.

This says a lot about both of you’re senses of humor. Whether those things are good or bad is all relative. Entertainment value in media is and always will be in the eye of the beholder.
I just got very tired of the 90% modernized and cartoonized slapstick humor in most of SP and FG. And by modernized, I mean having kids swim through a waterpark of urine.
Not to mention simply AWFUL storytelling. (Again, in both those shows) I still think this should be the backbone of comedies. If you can tell a good story (the happens to be humorous) the laughs will come naturally. Forget relying on how outrageous or offensive you can be.
Lastly, a lot of their content seems to appeal more to a much younger audience. A lot of the jokes I no longer find any funny, maybe I would have in grade school. Back then it was cool that it was “dirty.”

The way the SP writers can break down an issue and mock it so cleverly is what makes the show great to me. There is no one on the planet that is a more effective source of mockery. I admire that.
The children swimming in urine is just a bonus. Also, the need for good story telling is relative. If the story is the source of the humor, then it needs to be well structured. If it’s just a venue for the real source of the humor, then there’s no need to tell a compelling or clever story. I think both SP and FG are very upfront regarding their lack of interest in storytelling.

I feel south park actually makes an attempt at story telling at times. I personally didn’t like the pee episode, but even most bad episodes, there is at least a few scenes that make me laugh.
Personally. i like smart, edgy, witty humor. I like George Carlin. I liked Monty Python (the movies and the show), Louis CK, Lewis Black, Richard Pryor. These guys all were witty and loved to touch upon edgy subjects and had smart humor too. South park is the same way. It gets me with its pure wit, smart, thought out humor, and edgy contraversial subjects that attack society with endless wit.

He is pretty funny. I saw him live this year. He was edgier than some of his stuff on TV. He is one of those guys that is much better at a normal performance than a TV one…maybe b/c he avoids edgier material on TV (I dunno why)

That’s the 25% I think is often very funny. I couldn’t exactly pin point it down to specific years, like I can with The Simpsons, but do recognize that some episodes or gags are very funny. “Make Love not WarCraft” for example, was an instant classic in my book.

yes. the problem is, since season 9, there are only one or two of these episodes a season, instead of them making up a majority of the season.
The season you mention is season 10 which is where south park got inconsistent. they had things like the cartoon wars, satan’s super sweet 16, warcraft, and manbearpig which are classics to me. Then there are others like the towlie episode, the go god go thing, and the return of chef episode which I don’t care for.
I do appreciate the simpsons for how it always makes a very solid episode. If southpark was an EKG, it would have a lot more highs and lows…but I love the highs of SP.

yeah, nothing now compares to what the simpsons used to be. I think Futurama is the closest. South Park’s problem is that some episodes are absolutely amazing, but some fall completely flat. its too inconsistent. I hate Family Guy (blasphemy!) its not clever at all, and is built completely off of cheap laughs. Family guy is the Carlos Mencia of prime time cartoons.

right. one of SP’s strengths is that it takes almost no time to make, so they were able to make very relevant cultural commentary. It went beyond “dick and fart” jokes and had some very good satirical elements. When I say SP is hit or miss now, I mean some episodes are all dick and fart jokes. Family Guy is and has always been based on being as outrageous and offensive as it could be. They’ve never done anything meaningful.

What makes them great is they are always on top of an issue, offering witty humorous social commentary. the best friends forever episode is still one of my faves. south park is a very smart show under the guise of a show that isn’t as smart. if you dig down, there is some brilliant social commentary.

I don’t think southpark is old. in fact, if you watch some of the newer episodes, they often feel very fresh. Tonight’s could be a groundbreaking one. they haven’t touched on the subject of pot that much and they are prepared to poke fun at medicinal marijuana dispenseries.

The show was surprisingly mature in storytelling. They had that Disney/Pixar quality of being instantly liked by kids, but interesting enough to capture adult attention.

Agreed, but as a late teenager, the show still struck me with some of its themes- Ms. Finster’s sadness over aging, youthful naiveté, and various episodes centered around universal childhood experiences. Perhaps I looked into it too much, but I believe the creators did a strong job making it applicable to all.

jackass is just stupid. it is guys going around doing stupid things. Borat, the great thing was the interpersonal reactions. Jackass was guys in the woods jerking off horses. With bruno, he is a crazy foreigner interacting with real americans and showing their reactions. it cuts to deeply to the fact of how americans are paranoid and xenophobic.
Also, it does address a little homophobia. He would kiss people on the cheek and they would react negatively, although this is a common greeting many places in europe I felt it did a good job at addressing homophobia.
Homophobia was also the goal of bruno. the goal was to address how people look at gay people. instead, the movie itself seemed homophobic. instead of making fun of how people react to gays, he creats the worst stereotype imaginable of the gay community…
