After suffering yet another concussion last season, the speculation started again as to whether or not Cleveland Browns S Brodney Pool would be forced into retirement. According to the Plain Dealer via Pool's agent, Pool does not plan on retiring any time in the near future:
"Brodney absolutely intends on playing football for many years to come," agent Ben Dogra wrote in an email. "He has been checked out and has a clean bill of health. He is anxious to play football in 2010."
Pool is a restricted free agent and has been with the Browns for five seasons. He's suffered four concussions during his career already though, and at some point you have to put your foot down and say, "it's over." Maybe Pool will reach that point after his fifth concussion next season.

I like Brodney Pool as a player.
I wish he would have retired. It isn’t a matter of “if” he will get another concussion, but it is a matter of when. At some point in time a players life after football is more important than 16 weeks a season.

I’m with you on this one. I like the guy, I really like the fearlessness that he played with, but there’s a point where you should give it up. I think he’s reached that point. I hope he gets a contract and does well, but it’s all to easy to see him getting another concussion. I hope I’m wrong on this, but….

the problem is the idea of relying on hope. Hope is good, but it is not something to rely upon when giving a player a contract. the reality is he should retire

I agree. If he does play again, firs of all I hope he doesn’t, second of all I hope it is not at all on the browns.

I’m not buying “clean bill of health”.

Any developments on his mooted switch to CB?
If we take Haden I guess that’s a non-starter.
If Christmas comes early and we get Berry, it might be inspired.

You should really rethink your usual strategy of getting as many hooks into a person as possible, then allowing them to swim off, till your lines jerk.
Neither money nor health, are any of your business, ultimately.
Either you revere these guys because they are playing, because you can´t, ideally based on greater ability. Or you should develop a greater consistency in devaluating them, because you don´t consider professional sports an adult profession.
They are exponents of an athletic pool, not proponents of your every whim.
