This shouldn't come as much of a surprise, but running back Peyton Hillis sat out Wednesday's practice with sore ribs after taking a shot in the back from safety Ed Reed at the beginning of last week's game. Hillis is still expected to start in this week's finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers. I wonder if the Browns will sign a third running back to the roster in the next couple of days.
In other injury-related news, offensive guard Floyd Womack also missed practice with a knee injury.
Regarding the Pro Bowl, many of you have already heard that the only player representing the Browns this season is left tackle Joe Thomas, who is going for the fourth consecutive season. If I had to pick a player who played like a Pro Bowler on the Browns but didn't make it, that would be punter Reggie Hodges.
Several Browns players were named as alternates, but none of them were "first alternates." That means that unless two or more players can't play at a position, no other Brown will be involved in the festivities.
Second Alternates: RB Peyton Hillis, OG Eric Steinbach, C Alex Mack.
Third Alternates: KR Joshua Cribbs, ST Ray Ventrone, FB Lawrence Vickers.
Fourth Alternates: CB Joe Haden.

I say a few more Browns players make it due to SB players, injured players and players who just don’t give a crap about going.
It doesn’t really mean anything but I guess having a Pro Bowl under one’s belt is a big stat in media terms. Are you not considered voted into a Pro Bowl unless you’re on the roster? That would mean that Peyton is still not in the Pro Bowl correct?

I recall when DA made it that people referred to him as a “Pro Bowler,” so I think it comes down to who plays the actual game.

We never should have traded for Hillis
He’s been a decent fill-in back but he should be used sparingly. The way he runs is just so violent that hes going to be injured alot and not be a factor if we use him too much.

How can you say we never should have traded for Hillis? We got rid of a nobody quarterback and actually somehow managed to get Hillis AND a draft pick. It was a great trade.
Also, we drafted Hardesty to be the main back. Hillis just played too well for us to keep him on the sideline and when Hardesty got hurt, we really had no one else to go to.
I agree completely with your second sentence, though. Hopefully next year Hardesty is healthy and we’ll have one hell of a backfield.

I agree with your third paragraph.
But I want Hillis limited to short yardage and pass protection type scenarios. He’s just not a threat to go the distance on every play like Hardesty is.

That’s pretty good, but I don’t know if that makes him a freak among NFL freaks. He’s right around Tebow’s numbers for the 3 cone and the short shuttle, which I’d consider two of the more important drills for RBs. I like his vertical and broad jumps. I know for sure that a good combine doesn’t mean a good football player.

His SS and 3 cone are pretty good, but Tebow put up some weirdly ridiculous numbers.

Who cares when you average 4+ yards a carry. I’ld rather have him chewing clock all day on long sustained drives instead of a guy who carries for 1 yard at a time, 10xs until he busts a 60 yarder.

Joe Haden is the highest picked nickelback ever. He´s handsdown the most instinctive player on the roster, but long term he will be too slow for cornerback and too diminutive for safety.
Lets trade Joe Thomas for four linebackers that can run a 40 yard dash faster than a 5.0.
Steinbach should be worth a tailback, the only other need we can´t cover outside the draft. Move Mack to guard, and we can draft a real center.
We should lose the next game. If we win, they´ll make sure we go from spoilers to toilers next year, most teams want the Steelers in there, because they are immensely beatable this year.
