Best. Game. Ever.
Coming off of a bye week, the Cleveland Browns flat out dominated the New England Patriots, a team who entered the game with the best record in the NFL. This wasn't a fluke victory by any stretch of the imagination.
On offense, Peyton Hillis couldn't be stopped, as he ran for a career high 184 yards on 29 touches for 2 touchdowns. That includes a nice 35-yard burst that he had to finish off the Patriots in the fourth quarter, forcing New England to put backup Brian Hoyer into the game because they were losing so badly. Colt McCoy only threw the ball 19 times, but completed about 75% of his passes. Congratulations Brian Daboll -- the Browns finally had a perfect offensive game by emphasizing the run, and then having a few clutch passes mixed in. Today, I changed my mind -- McCoy is the starting quarterback the rest of the season.

As far as the Patriots' offense, Tom Brady looked confused with the defensive looks our team was throwing at him. His receivers struggled to catch the football at times, and Rob Grankowski had a costly fumble just before halftime. The Patriots only converted 3/11 of their third downs (27%), which I imagine is a season-low for them.
The Browns didn't stop the creativity and risk-taking in this game. They mixed it up on kickoffs to keep the ball away from Brandon Tate, and one of those tries resulted in an accidental onside kick recovery. On offense, a version of the "fumblerooski" was run, with Chansi Stuckey taking it in for a score. The Browns also converted a 4th-and-short in their own territory in the first quarter.
The past two games have been unbelievable, and who doesn't think we can beat the New York Jets next week now? Could Cleveland even be favored, considering how the Jets almost lost to the Lions?

The picture of Hillis hopping over the Falcons guy is on my wall. This one will be printed out as well.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
I’m on board now too. There is absolutely 0 reasons to not start Colt for the rest of the year after the last three games. He can clearly handle it and gives us as good/better chance of winning as Delhomme or Seneca.
DisplacedBuckeye - November 7, 2010
It’s a cheesy word to use but does anyone feel like it’s maybe “destiny” that Delhomme and Seneca BOTH got injured so that Colt could take over?
emily522 - November 7, 2010
I think Seneca is back weher he started- backup- and Jake is probably done right now.
LondonBrown - November 7, 2010
I said the same in the game thread. Daboll doesn’t trust McCoy enough to throw 40 times a game, so he completely committed to the running game and only asked Colt not to turn it over.
I haven’t seen any reason to bench Colt yet. He’s playing (mostly) mistake free football and it seems he’s more hampered by a weak receiving corps than the game being too fast for him.
Michael Jay - November 7, 2010
I would attribute the commitment to the running game more to Peyton Hills and the Browns O-line being able to run over pretty much anyone in the league. At least more so than Daboll not trusting McCoy.
Monsters of the Midway - November 7, 2010
Even with Hillis showing his stuff early (remember the Ravens game?), he wasn’t breaking 20 touches a game until Wallace went down against Atlanta.
Daboll was a QB coach before he was an OC. He’s always been pass first. I think this sort of forced his hand (just like last year when Harrison exploded).
Michael Jay - November 7, 2010
I said it all along after the draft, McCoy is a very good QB. We got the steal of the draft for QB’s. I’ve watch High School games of his, and of course everything else beyond that. This kid has had “IT” for a long time. He just needs to win over a new group of people to do it. He will, just give it some time and some more talent at WR. We’re getting there, and will become a more balanced team, so Peyton dosen’t get worn out in 2-3 years. Hopefully we have his running game for the next 4 to 5 years, or beyond.

Doubting Chris, believing after Colt beat the Saints and the Pats – blessed are those who believed without seeing.
realmccoy - November 7, 2010
Amen, my friend.
And PS- Is there any doubt that God is a Browns fan now?
shep615 - November 7, 2010
We’ve only won two straight games, compared with 46 years of losing. There’s still doubt.
Chemo - November 7, 2010

Good point… BUT (not to get TOO biblical or anything)… The Israelites did wander in the desert for 40 years before reaching the Promised Land.

da36chamberz - November 7, 2010
Great win guys,
and while I’m a fan of Jake, from what I’ve seen in highlights Colt is looking like a young playmaking Garcia. At the halfway mark, y’all are in striking distance with a improved defense and emerging offense. I hope the team can keep it going. This worked last time I posted here (didn’t have anything to do with it really, but I’m a bit superstitious not to mention we have a guy (Gris Gris Man) at CSC who actually puts spells on teams we play so maybe that is having an effect) so I ’ll try it for Cincy and come back later for the birdies. I hope we can beat another of your hated rivals in three weeks. It is crazy how every team in the AFC North has some really interesting history with the Browns. But, anyway, continued good luck ;)
mjtig - November 8, 2010
I think it’s safe to assume that Hillis is finally 100%. Yay for bye weeks!
golanbatrac - November 7, 2010
He gave us a few scares though.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
Honestly, if he has a game like this every other week, that’d be OK.
9James - November 7, 2010
Colt’s uni’s look sweet.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
Ha Simms disagrees in the other thread.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
Yeah, not a fan of these ones at all.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
I hate them.
Chris Pokorny - November 7, 2010
Agreed. I think it’s the helmet, pants and blue long sleeves that ruin them.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
McCoy has his own uniform?
9James - November 7, 2010
Fantastic game! We just plain dominated the Patriots.
I was ambivalent about who would start as QB after Wallace and Delhomme get healthy, but I think McCoy earned it this game. All I’ll say is if we do put him let him stay in the rest of year, even if he starts slumping a little later this season. He’s either the starter or not.
I only had one question about this game, why do we still not see more of Evan Moore? Doesn’t matter really since we’re playing so well, but I wanted to get others opinions.
Awesome, awesome game!!!!!
BiggieBrown - November 7, 2010
Haha, Brian Hoyer comes in for two attempts and throws a pick.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
Not really a “pick” pick, the ball was stripped from the receiver.
joeee - November 7, 2010
It went into the books as an INT, so it’s still funny.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
Really? I thought it was a strip unless they though he never had possession.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
They might change it later, but for not it’s an INT.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
It's a pick as far as I know
Devin McCourty had a strip that was listed as a pick last week in similar circumstances.
Comedic.Sans - November 7, 2010
We held Tom Brady to 52.8% completion.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
Colt McCoy: 73.7%
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
He was 4-8 to start the game. So he only missed 1 of his next 11 throws.
He also had 9.2 Y/A.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
Game manager. He is great at it.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
I’d say he did a bit more than game managing, he was really throwing great over the middle.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
New Orleans he managed the game. Today he made plays when asked to.
Monsters of the Midway - November 7, 2010
He made at least 3 awesome throws on the run also..all on third downs!(i think)
Mr Orange - November 7, 2010
Another big point is that for the first time, when Colt felt pressure, he did not try to leave the pocket. He trusted his blocking and stepped up to avoid the rush. This is huge in his development.
elsandito - November 7, 2010
He also knew when he did have to leave too. Like on the duck he through out of bounds.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
Agreed.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
I guess we have a different meaning for game manager than.
I’ll change my statement completely: Awesome quarterback. Colt is.
Still true.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
exactly. this was my point (albeit with more words and stat analysis) below.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
This is where our offense is run, mostly.

Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
super bowl ring.
discoinferno083 - November 7, 2010
I’ll keep it clean

Villeslgr - November 7, 2010
and over 12.4 yards per completion which is right around where the Packers are in this stat. as we saw in the preseason game where he didn’t miss a pass, Y/A also relies a lot on comp %.
Point being, he is stretching the field more than Delhomme or Seneca. his Y/C is almost as good this year as a healthy JD for his career.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
Which is part of why it’s a better stat than YPC. I really don’t see what your hang-up is on this.
notthatnoise - November 7, 2010
Yards per attempt is nice, but neither one tells the whole story. As I pointed out from the preseason game, Colt had an excellent YPA, but a very low Y/C because he was playing the dink and dunk game and not stretching the field. Together they complement each other because one shows generally how well a QB moved the ball and the other shows how well the QB did at stretching the field.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
YPA is a much, much better stat than Y/C
rufio - November 8, 2010
it is, but YPA and Y/C complement each other. Together they are stronger than apart. my whole point was adding how Colt was actually stretching the field which Y/C is more accurate at showing.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Oh no… Here we go again :p

Browns are a better team than the Patriots – why is anyone surprised by this easy win ?
WarWolf - November 7, 2010
2-5 vs. 6-1
9James - November 7, 2010
Who is the Real McCoy ?
hint: his name is a type of horse
WarWolf - November 7, 2010
One things that concerns me is the number of carries that Hillis is getting every game. He’s taking a pounding and I’m worried that he won’t be able to keep this up all season. We need to find another RB who can take some of the carries and not completely suck.
Buckeye Brad - November 7, 2010
Mike Bell isn’t that guy. I think Harrison could have been. Bad trade.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
Harrison’s skill set could have allowed him to be that guy but I think his head was too messed up. Right on though, Mike Bell doesn’t bring much to the table.
Monsters of the Midway - November 7, 2010
Harrison wasn’t giving full effort and was going to be a free agent. It’s a wash.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
I’m still leaning towards bad trade. I think, even for only the rest of this season, he could have complimented Hillis much better than Mike Bell.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
he could have, but he was too upset about having to compete for the starting job that he wasn’t trying, so he was useless.
notthatnoise - November 7, 2010
Not to mention
…that Harrison always seemed to come up with an injury when we were supposed to play the hard-hitting teams like the Steelers and the Ravens. He’s soft. He kept perseverating about how he had no clue why he wasn’t playing. That’s BS. Everyone in that locker room knows what it takes to see the field. It’s clear from day one and hard work apparently isn’t in Harrison’s vocabulary.
The trade will probably be an even one. By the way, the above paragraph could apply to James Davis too who is a lazy ass player.
DreadedOne - November 8, 2010
+1 for ‘perseverating’.
golanbatrac - November 8, 2010
This is where I am after hearing Holmgren on the subject.
rufio - November 8, 2010
it was really interesting for me to hear Holmgren come out and say that Harrison was affected by the fact that they brought other guys in.
notthatnoise - November 8, 2010
Agree.
Can we bring back Chris Jennings?
emily522 - November 7, 2010
Seriously where’s Chris Jennings? PS?
emily522 - November 7, 2010
He’s not on the practice squad right now. This is article is a few weeks old but it’s the newest I could find.
Monsters of the Midway - November 7, 2010
Chris Jennings is now playing for the Hartford UFL squad, coached by none other than Chris Palmer. I’m not sure about this, but I think that the UFL has been refusing to allow players out of their contracts to go to the NFL.
jdudas - November 7, 2010
We should have punted Harrison out for a project WR, a young DL, anything really.
Where’s Davis? He had the size to spell Hillis for a season.
LondonBrown - November 8, 2010
Davis was cut.
Bernie19Kosar - November 8, 2010
You can only get what others are willing to give in return.
Roger Dorn - November 8, 2010
Hillis is pretty tough
He took a lot of hits in college too and kept on going
WarWolf - November 7, 2010
He is tough, but this is the NFL, not college. It doesn’t matter how tough a player is, he can only take so many hits before injuries slow him down.
Buckeye Brad - November 7, 2010
extra weeks, too.
I wonder what Vickers could do if given 10+ carries a game.
9James - November 7, 2010
And not only for this year, but future years.
We need Hardesty back, bad.
rufio - November 8, 2010
I think he runs a lot like Lewis and Lewis lasted a lot of years. This is exceptional but it is not impossible that Hillis can run like he does and still last a while before injuries bring him down. I think it is largely a matter of luck and good conditioning.
Brownsyup - November 8, 2010
William Green
TheRealSlimShady - November 7, 2010
I’m guessing we’ll draft a RB in the 2nd or 3rd next year just in case Hardesty doesn’t work out.
StuckInPa - November 7, 2010
Yeah, there are usually good RB’s available in the 3rd round. I wouldn’t want to spend a 2nd round pick next year unless he’s a stud because we’ve got so many other needs.
Buckeye Brad - November 7, 2010
No thanks. No earlier than the 4th unless someone is absolutely the best value on the board.
rufio - November 8, 2010

DisplacedBuckeye - November 7, 2010
Ah yeah we have one… but we’re kind of talking about other games now too.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
But I’ll stop now.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
Sorry, don’t take it the wrong way. No offense intended.
DisplacedBuckeye - November 7, 2010
This is really the proto-typical Browns victory though. Special teams scoring points themselves/making a play to create points, getting an early lead, and then just playing smash-mouth football on offense (with a little “trickeration” thrown in) and solid defense.
What a great gameplan coming out of the bye from Mangini/Ryan/Daboll.
DisplacedBuckeye - November 7, 2010
It only gets more like this as the weather gets worse. Colt is accurate and zinging the ball in there. This has to be exactly what they imagined a Browns football team looking like. If McCoy can keep the chains moving like this so that the teams can’t gear up against the run, we will be tough to beat especially at home.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
Totally agree.
Daboll bashing has been the norm (and for good reason). But he had Bilicheck all sorts of messed up today. Amazing job all around.
Bernie19Kosar - November 7, 2010
It should not surprise that when the O line, Hillis and Colt execute, it makes the O coordinator look like he knows what he’s doing.
elsandito - November 7, 2010
Right. Good players always make a coach look smart and bad players make him look stupid. Daboll didn’t get to this position without knowing what he’s doing.
Buckeye Brad - November 7, 2010
True, but it just seemed in the past that his calling was so bland and predictable.
JustBob - November 7, 2010
That’s actually the exact opposite of what most people were complaining about before with Daboll. Many people on here said he was throwing too much and wasn’t running enough early in the season; I think he was trying to pass so he wouldn’t be bland and predictible.
Either way, it’s always easy to second-guess the play calling when the plays don’t work and the team loses. If the players execute the plays correctly then the OC looks much smarter no matter what plays he’s calling.
Buckeye Brad - November 7, 2010
Not disagreeing with any of the execution-makes-coaching-look-good part. I guess the bland and predictable part is part of the aftertaste of last season.
JustBob - November 7, 2010
He was passing because that’s where the yards were….I really need to get to my post that I have ignored for months. I have a review next week, an explanation will probably be coming after that.
Part of being an OC is knowing what your players will be able to execute. Part of being a good OC is knowing how well you will be able to execute when you consider the matchup.
rufio - November 8, 2010
I don’t think its as simple as equating running with bland and predictable. In this game, we ran a ton, but still had a handful of trickiness. In those earlier games, Daboll wasn’t being overly tricky, he was just stubborningly sticking with vanilla throw, even with the lead. I think it’s perfectly reasonable to say that he’s doing better.
dgcambridge - November 8, 2010

I have to say, Daboll has been pretty impressive lately…where’s all the people that wanted his head on a stick?
da36chamberz - November 7, 2010
that fourth down play early in the game was a thing of beauty.
notthatnoise - November 7, 2010
yeah that was great – I kept thinking they were just going to run the clock down and hope for an offsides, then all of a sudden it’s an old-fashioned QB keeper.
I also enjoyed the excitement from the sidelines. Seeing Daboll chest-bump a guy in full pads was sweet. He totally got flattened by the guy and loved it.
da36chamberz - November 7, 2010
That wasn’t just any guy. That was Joe Thomas! Brave move, chest bumping a man that large.
Chief Wahoo - November 7, 2010
I was in the “Lets give him more than 2 games with a new Offense” group. I got some flack for it, but I guess the wait and See method isn’t too bad…
bross09 - November 7, 2010
At the beginning of the year his head belonged on a stick. He’s obviously doing better and that’s awesome but that doing well now doesn’t mean he was doing well then.
Villeslgr - November 8, 2010
Oh i know, and I totally agree….it’s just funny how much difference a few weeks can make. About a month ago most people hated Daboll. I’m really glad he seems to have gotten better at calling plays.

Grockcubs - November 7, 2010
Once again, the coaches deserve the game ball. Last week Rob Ryan had the game of his life. This week Daboll, after 1.5 seasons of scrutiny, finally earns his check for a week.
It’s Beer o’clock and I’m running late. Have a great day everyone!
Michael Jay - November 7, 2010
Did you see mangini’s face at the end of the game? The guy was doing everything he could to contain a shit eating grin. Great game from the coaches.
Monsters of the Midway - November 7, 2010

Chief Wahoo - November 7, 2010
I was wearing one of those grins myself, and I’ll third that!
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 8, 2010
I was wondering if he might have been a little ticked at the gatorade bath given that there were still 2 minutes left in the game. Maybe bad form for a team to be celebrating with that much time left?
Brownsyup - November 8, 2010
If we get a true #1 WR and a little bit better on defense, we can be damn good.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
I agree with this. No matter how much better Cribbs has become and how Massaquoi was finally targeted today, we could use a genuine deep threat to open the game up even more.
DisplacedBuckeye - November 7, 2010
Agree, if Cribbs had more experience he woulda kept running under that bomb instead of almost stopping and looking back.
Red-Right-88 - November 8, 2010
Give Josh time. That said, more legit targets can only improve everyone’s chances!
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 8, 2010
Our defense is playing very well. We need some youth in the front 7, but it is hard to argue against what we have been able to do the past few weeks.

RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 8, 2010
Really? Seriously? Hillis is not just another bruiser, this guy is cerebral and has great balance and footwork. And Colt grew up today. Those accurate lasers while he was rolling to avoid the rush were right on target. And he showed no fear with that run to the end zone. The Browns showed today that this is a team to be feared the rest of the way.
elsandito - November 7, 2010
Colt has to be the QB the rest of the way. Just an awesome performance given what he has to work with.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
I was stunned by his play.
danvail - November 7, 2010
Yes, he showed that he can learn this game while playing and he seems very quick in learning mode.
elsandito - November 7, 2010
And I hate to be corny, but there is story after story about just how much Colt WANTS to play and WANTS/NEEDS to win. He’s a true competitor. And I think he’s more than driven enough to keep learning and not let it get to his head if he manages success.
DisplacedBuckeye - November 7, 2010
yes, colt clearly gives the browns the best chance to win, and i’m sure mangini & co. would agree.
davus - November 7, 2010
There’s no way you can justify going back to Wallace or Delhomme.
Yes, he managed the game in NO. But he didn’t lose it. And he beat the Patriots. It’s not like he didn’t do his job setting up those scores.
His first two victories have come against Drew Brees and Tom Brady. Things are looking good!
emily522 - November 7, 2010
More simply put….Colt McCoy is 2-1 against the Saints, Steelers, and Pats. Read that sentence again.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
I like it.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
Wow. Seeing that in black and white drives it home.
Monsters of the Midway - November 7, 2010
Right. Just wait until he starts facing some bad teams. After next week against the Jets the schedule gets much easier.
Buckeye Brad - November 7, 2010
vs Jets, @ Jacksonville, vs. Carolina, @ Miami, @ Buffalo, then our division games to end the year.
DisplacedBuckeye - November 7, 2010
I see 4 in there that we should definitely win. Should. I hope we can get some of those division games, too. Especially the one on the Steelers.
StuckInPa - November 7, 2010
It’s not completely ridiculous to say we could be 7-6 going into @ Cincy, and then at home against the Ravens and Steelers with a chance to make the playoffs if we sweep them.
DisplacedBuckeye - November 7, 2010
Not ridiculous, but don’t bet the farm on it. Asking this team not lose more than one game in the next five, might be asking a little bit too much.
9James - November 7, 2010
10-6.
North Coast Flea - November 8, 2010
so after the jets, Win Win Possible Win Win then divisonal games, two of which are at home.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
chickens…eggs…counting
9James - November 7, 2010
true true…but out of the 3 wins I called, 2 of the teams have combined to win 1 game..
(knock on wood) unless the team completely implodes, we will beat carolina and buffalo
bross09 - November 7, 2010
Of course, the Saints and Patriots fans probably thought the Browns would be an easy win. You can’t take anything for granted in the NFL.
Buckeye Brad - November 7, 2010
9James - November 7, 2010
thats true. Those aren’t truly guaranteed. However the browns are in every game and competitive while these teams are just flat out awful.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Not at all
Pats fans considered this the ultimate trap game (given your record).
No way they were being taken for granted, which actually suggests the Browns victory was more impressive because of it.
Comedic.Sans - November 8, 2010
I have to disagree with #4. McCoy had already started two games and Hillis has essentially been the #1 back for most of the season.
notthatnoise - November 8, 2010
Well, mainly McCoy (although McCoy opens up Hillis by being a good game manager).
Someone on here quite rightly pointed out that the McCoy’d Browns are 2-1 against some very good teams – Steelers, Saints and Pats.
Comedic.Sans - November 8, 2010
I like that you gave us that respect.
I found it amusing to hear Cinci fans cry: “OMG we jus lose to teh lowly Brownsies. WT?F!”
We are better than they are.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
I agree, I was typing up a similar response. Sometimes “we get no respect”

emily522 - November 7, 2010
He’s a winner?
rufio - November 8, 2010
Well, that joke has come full circle, huh?
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
He is a winner. realmccoy has been saying it all along and Colt himself said it after he drafted and being interviewed on ESPN.
Roger Dorn - November 8, 2010
I believe him. Not only does he seem to be aware of what he needs to do to win games, he displays the attitude, drive for perfection, and work ethic that make up what I see as meaningful “winner” qualities.
Holmgren was talking about Colt missing a pass by 6 inches, slamming his helmet on the ground, and then re-throwing the same throw 10+ times in a row to perfect it.
I really like this kid, but I want to see him lead us back to victory in a game like the steelers game. Their defense dared him to make plays, we couldn’t run Peyton for 184 yards, and we were behind. If he can lead us to one comebac in a situation like that this year, I am fully on the bandwagon. As it is I am cautiously on with one foot. He is starting to earn the job through his performances.
rufio - November 8, 2010
They mentioned during the broadcast that Colt is the first quarterback to start his career against three superbowl winning quarterbacks in a row. And he’s still 2-1!
rebuilding year - November 8, 2010
Not just Super Bowl winning Quartrbacks, but winners of 6 of the last 9 Superbowls.
golanbatrac - November 8, 2010
I’ve been saying this for sometime now, it’s not even worth being a question.
There is NO qb controversy.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
OT: I commented on a friend I have whose a pats fan (and says BB let the browns win) and then he and another friend were getting into the debate about the game…and the browns fan posted a link to this exact article
bross09 - November 7, 2010
To me, the most satisfying aspect of this win was Belichick getting his ass handed to him. I sat through many terribly coach games by him in the 90s. Run, run, pass. Metcalf up the middle. Playing not to lose. It was painful. I am shocked he ended up being a successful coach.
Now, in the present, we beat him with a less talented team and by playing to win. Taking chances. Outcoaching him.
This was a good day.
kingcrimson2 - November 7, 2010
Man if we didn’t let the Bucs and Chiefs games slip away we would be 5-3 and in the playoff hunt.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
Ugh I was thinking about this earlier.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
If we can pull out a Jets win, I actually think we have an outside shot at playoffs.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
I’m going to throw up a post about this. A huge “we know we’re all overexcited but…what if…” type of thing. Just with the schedules of all the other playoff contenders in the AFC.
DisplacedBuckeye - November 7, 2010
We can contain their offense. We will need to score points.
rufio - November 8, 2010
After the last two weeks there is no team in the NFL that the Browns couldn’t conceivably beat. Try reading that sentence again. It is possible for the Browns to run the table till the end of the season. I won’t say is it probable but it is possible. If they do, that would almost certainly earn them a playoff spot.
Brownsyup - November 8, 2010
As far as I’m concerned, 10-6 or 9-7 are both attainable, and those keep us in the wild card hunt. WEre still in the playoff hunt, baby.
BELIEVE
troy145 - November 7, 2010
I’m sticking with my 10 win prediction.
golanbatrac - November 7, 2010
Why not 11?
StuckInPa - November 7, 2010
Honestly. Its VERY doable the way we’re currently playing.
troy145 - November 7, 2010

troy145 - November 7, 2010
Me too. I can’t wait for a rematch. With playoff implications.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 8, 2010
If we manage 10 wins, we could possibly put 3 AFCN teams in the playoffs.
StuckInPa - November 7, 2010
If we actually did make the playoffs, we’d be the FIRST TEAM EVER to start 0-3 and make it.
BrownDawg1409 - November 8, 2010
which sadly leads me to believe we won’t; but as always, I’ll keep the faith.
Dawg Nuts - November 8, 2010

Yes! Seeing it over Thanksgiving break with a friend.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
My cousin is coming back from Japan (he’s in the marines) for the first time in a year! He’s a huge Potter fan, he got me into it. He’ll be home for the midnight showing, it’s going to be an awesome night.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
That’s funny to see marine and huge potter fan in the same post. Full disclosure, I love Harry Potter.
Monsters of the Midway - November 7, 2010
He is a HUGE marine too. He is very much the type that you wouldn’t at all expect to be into it at all.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
I am so tempted to see it at the midnight showing, but I am a nice brother and won’t see it till friday because my sister has school.
I am definitely seeing it thanksgiving again.
On that subject, I saw a clip that they showed of the scene where they encounter Thorfinn Rowle and Dolohov at the Diner on Tottenham Court Road
bross09 - November 7, 2010
Is this the last one?
golanbatrac - November 7, 2010
One more.
StuckInPa - November 7, 2010
damn. I’m waiting for all of them to be out before I see any of them. Saw part of one about ten years ago, and it looked like it might be pretty good.
golanbatrac - November 7, 2010
Wow. I almost did that with all the Saw movies, but I just gave up and watched 1-6. I’ve heard 7 is good.
StuckInPa - November 7, 2010
You honestly enjoyed Saw VI?
Chief Wahoo - November 7, 2010
Ha yes, I enjoyed them all. It wasn’t as good as the previous 5, but I liked it.
StuckInPa - November 7, 2010
Crazy. I liked the first one. The rest just felt so recycled. And by about the 4th I felt like i was watching a random movie at 3 AM on ScyFy.
Chief Wahoo - November 7, 2010
Haha to each his own I guess. I like a lot of different movies.
StuckInPa - November 7, 2010
I do as well. Campy horror is one of my favorites. You should check out “Hatchet” if you ever get the chance.
Chief Wahoo - November 7, 2010
Did you read the book? Amazing read back in 7th grade.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
Haha yes, I did. This movie is not based on that book, however.
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0422401/
Chief Wahoo - November 7, 2010
I agree. I liked the first one, but I can’t see-saw past that one.
da36chamberz - November 7, 2010
After seeing the first couple I got wrapped into the story and had to keep watching.
StuckInPa - November 7, 2010
This. I really liked the first one and basically hated everyone after that. It is fun sometimes, if it’s free, to see the different trap puzzles that they come up with in the later films though. The storyline is asinine.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
I didn’t like any after 1-3 personally. I did wait a while though…
bross09 - November 7, 2010
You’ll notice that the child actors slowly become more talented throughout the films.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
I mean to say, as they age in real life, their acting get better, and in turn the films get better. The same goes for the screenwriters or who ever they have adapting the books to screenplay. Hell, you could probably go as far to say JK Rowling slowly got better as she wrote each book as well.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
kinda. She hit a lull near the end. I disliked the 6th book and have a love/hate relationship with the 5th (in some ways, it is the best book in the sense of the intense persecution and the ‘us against the world mentality’ but harry comes off as a whiny B***h in the 5th and 6th at times)
for any mods, B***h=Buuuh
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I only read the 2nd book in grade school, none since then, so I was only guessing.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
ahh…Sorry, most people that got excited as you did with your original post about the movie are harry potter nerds like me. you were probably confused then on the oddly specific comment about a scene from a movie. Yeah, I remember death eaters names and such. I sadly may no more about the books than JK Rowling herself.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I have to be honest, I know nothing about HP. I’m more of a J. R. R. Tolkien nerd hahaha
da36chamberz - November 8, 2010
I am a bit of both. I haven’t read the Tolkein Books as obsessively as HP in recent years (partially because I have all 7 HP books on tape and listen to them when I go to bed on my ipod, and partially b/c my copy of the trilogy got destroyed).
bross09 - November 8, 2010
So HP is worth checking out I’m assuming? I always thought it was for kids.
da36chamberz - November 8, 2010
(From what I hear) the later books are very much adult themed (not like porn or anything), but darker tones and adult situations. The characters grow and mature along with their die hard readers. That’s the way it was described to me anyway.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
Definitely. A lot about death and some legit existential themes. The characters definitely grow and get more complex. (also directed as agreement towards Simsinns)
Like Tolkein, Rowling is amazing at creating a whole fictional world where the pieces all fit together. I loved Tolkein because of how everything fit together so perfectly like he planned everything out beforehand. Its the same way with HP (and Rowling intentionally designed it that way).
From the beginning, she had a whole magical universe in mind and each book was just building blocks of it and building blocks for each character. Looking back like I do now, its amazing how well they fit and flow and the only things diehard HP nerds like me that can find that are wrong with it (when it comes to the creation in the universe) are semantic things like inconsistencies in the year of birth of a character and such.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
ok, you guys sold me. I will check it out. Even if I’m not quite digging the first few I will stick it out. I can get down with magic and Wizards (as long as they aren’t from Washington)
da36chamberz - November 8, 2010
haha…
I don’t get the washington Part.
Yeah, I can probably sell it to someone b/c I love it so much. Plus, anyone who likes Tolkein I think would like it. they both are fantasies, have the idea of a “chosen one” and the fact that each has a large universe.
LOTR is much more adventure based (i.e. they are going on this long journey) whereas HP (partly b/c it has more leeway with 7 books) has more character development…and is also more young adult oriented.
Rowling definitely was influenced by Tolkein IMO and I have always thought Dumbledore reminded me of Gandalf
bross09 - November 8, 2010
the Washington part was a lame NBA joke, since I hate the Washington Wizards.
Thanks for the info, sounds like I might enjoy the series.
da36chamberz - November 8, 2010
ahh.
Yeah, it makes sense you would, especially if you like fantasy in general. Most people I know who read LOTR also loved HP (including a couple really good friends and my dad) and I started off with HP and found LOTR to be enjoyable.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
If you like Harry Potter and/or Tolkein, you should check out Cinda Williams Chima. She has two series, and of the two I like the Seven Realms series more, but they’re both great.
Chemo - November 8, 2010
True. My cousin is the pump up “HOLY SH#@!” type, so I’m getting into it. The last movie was awesome though, and I really like the way they are marketing this one. Love the excitement.
It’s been an amazing past few weeks since the Buckeyes lost to Wis.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
I’m still pumped from my alma mater victory in an epic thriller Saturday night.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
It was awesome. Though there was supposed to be a fight scene after the scene with dumbledore on the tower…but thats not that necessary. Its necessary for only one small plot element but I heard they included it in this movie (kinda like if you saw the LOTR movies, the giant spider was supposed to be in the 2nd not the 3rd)/
I LOOOVE how they are marketing it. Mostly because I have been anticipating this for a year and it makes me so much more pumped.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
My favorite is The Prisoner of Azkaban, because that’s when everything starts to unravel.
emily522 - November 8, 2010
Same. I read it so much, my book fell apart.
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
my 3rd is ruined and my 7th is almost there.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
they split it up into 2 parts. If they didn’t, the movie would end up being as long as the Soviet movie rendition of War and Peace just so they could get enough info in so people who haven’t read the books wouldn’t be lost.
OT: That movie war and peace not only is really long, but considering inflation, is the most expensive movie ever made.

Eagles D-backs did nothing “wrong”. The receiver was turned by one hit, started to duck and went down to the level of the other defender.
I do agree that after watching the replay they were jumping around like jackasses when they saw they were vindicated – while Collie was lying 5 feet away. Classless.
DaveDawg09 - November 7, 2010
All of this.
StuckInPa - November 7, 2010
Most these bad hits are the receivers “fault” as they brace for impact, they lower their head making it more vulnerable.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
It’s instinct to tense up and bring the head closer to the body to protect it.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
Really, I saw no need for the penalty flag – other than the refs not wanting to have an injured player and no penalty.
What happened to the Horse-collar Tackle penalty, BTW? I see plays every week that would qualify and are never called. I’d argue that the chance of injury is just as great and even more avoidable in this case and it never seems to get called.
DaveDawg09 - November 7, 2010
Eagles were screwed twice by that flag. It’s a fumble / turnover if the refs get it right.

First Browns game I ever went to and it was awesome! Browns dominated every aspect of the game. Seems like another powerful team underestimated us.
Heavysoviet - November 7, 2010
There was no underestimation on their part. They were just out coached and out executed.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
you should go to every game from now on.
notthatnoise - November 7, 2010
Josh Cribbs absolutely rocked someone on the McCoy TD run. Just creamed.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
Someone needs to .gif it.

SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
The hit looks even more brutal from the other angle at game speed.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
and to top it off...
it was on Meriweather! AWESOME!
DreadedOne - November 8, 2010
It was awesome watching Colt and Peyton Hillis slice the Patriots up today. It was even more fun watching Belichick get his a** handed to him. Here’s hoping they can beat the Jets!
duke4711 - November 7, 2010
Looks like the Browns are no longer punching bags. Great win!!!
O-Dawg - November 7, 2010
Absolutely LOVED the game today. It’s days like these that make being a Browns fan that much sweeter. One year, you are groaning because DA sucks and Braylon can’t catch – then all of sudden the sun shines in Cleveland Browns stadium, and it’s so bright you gotta wear shades.
da36chamberz - November 7, 2010
Michael Vick, still got it.

mangini trying not to smirk, belichick just plain pissed. awesome.
davus - November 7, 2010
To be fair, that’s about the least pissed I’ve seen Belichick after any loss. He looks rather passive.
Comedic.Sans - November 7, 2010
maybe it’s just my biased browns-fan eyes.
davus - November 7, 2010
If there’s no frown- or head-wrinkles, he’s practically happy.
In saying that, I wouldn’t want to be in the Patriots locker-room or practice facility this week. There’s going to be blood and/or sweat on everything.
Comedic.Sans - November 7, 2010
Belichick’s post-game press conference was great.
notthatnoise - November 7, 2010
please summarize.
Dawg Nuts - November 7, 2010
it was basically “They outplayed us in every facet of the game. They were the better team. Ask me about how something went, the answer is bad.”
It was basically that repeated a few times.

Thanks for the link. Belichump still makes me laugh. He’s such a grump.
I’m glad Mangenius got him today!
tribe71 - November 7, 2010
He’s a grump even when the Pats win. It takes a Superbowl victory to actually make the guy smile.
Comedic.Sans - November 7, 2010
At least he smiles after the championship. Saban is a helluva coach but he didn’t even look happy after the NC win.
rufio - November 8, 2010
Saban had been smiling a lot more this season. Maybe nutsahmuch now.
troy145 - November 8, 2010
Huge laugh out loud.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
Belicheat. What an ass.
Fifty-Eight - November 7, 2010

Bill Belichik is now 1-2 vs. Browns in Cleveland.
NFL head coaches often struggle when playing teams they formerly coached. Bill Belichick is now 1-2 vs. the Browns in Cleveland. The blog SportsDelve.com wrote a piece about coaches struggling when returning to their former homes this past week. Check out the link for more info.

Did Mangini have dip in his mouth?
troy145 - November 8, 2010
Yes, he was chewing the whole game.
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
After this, Belichick actually did spend a decent amount of time out on the field. I guess he was seeking out Hillis to compliment him for one hell of a game.
Western Reserve - November 8, 2010
I had to comment on this game...
Even though I am a Ravens fan…that game was freaking awesome. Hillis is a beast and for the life of me, I will never understand why the Broncos gave him up (especially considering they never seem to have a healthy running back). Colt is looking the best QB out of the class. Some of those throws under pressure were just plan sick. This certainly makes the week 17 game more interesting.
UMBC Oriole fan - November 7, 2010
I can tell you why they gave him up:
McDaniels is a control freak and does not have a real eye for talent. Funny..he wears his hoody just the same as his mentor, Belicheat.
He ran Cutler out of town, ran one of the best big WR’s in the league out of town, then trades Hillis because he’s not a “sexy” running back choice. Guess what McDaniels? You just cost your former mentor a football game, and helped close the window just that much more on the Cheatriots. Love it.
Fifty-Eight - November 7, 2010
at least Belichick tolerated idiots when they had talent, a la randy moss. Plus, McDaniels has sucked as the de facto GM. He has destroyed the talent level on that team.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
To be fair, you have to take the good with the bad.
Kyle Orton would disagree. He went from the guy babysitting the Bears into a fairly productive QB… you know, on track for 5000 yards passing with a passer rating in the 90s.
Brandon Lloyd is the most productive WR in the league at the moment, and after only 8 games has already posted his best season stats. He’s on track for a 1700 yard (!) season. That’s ridiculous.
Jabbar Gaffney is also being extremely productive, he’s looking at his first career 1000 yard receiving season. Eddie Royal might crack 1000 yards, too.
Considering you’re ripping the guy for trading away his starting QB and his starting WR, and his replacement QB is on a Marino-like throwing streak and his replacement WR is on track for a 1700 yard season, I just figured I’d mention it. Hah.
If anything, it’s his D that’s letting him down, and you could (probably quite rightly) criticize him for ditching his D Coordinator from last year. But ripping him for getting rid of Cutler and Brandon Marshall isn’t just.
Comedic.Sans - November 8, 2010
Gaffney is doing shit for me in FF so I’d disagree.
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
It’s his best season thus far (if he continues). His most receptions in a season are 55 and 54; he’s already had 45 through 8 games. His most yardage is 732 (last year) and 632; he’s already got 516 through 8 games.
I couldn’t say why you picked him up in FF, but this’ll be his best season yardage- and reception-wise at the pace he’s on.
Comedic.Sans - November 8, 2010
you also have to consider (like I put down below) that he is in a high octane passing offense right now and that he is 29 and is starting (or just playing and getting looks) the most since 2005.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
They do pass a ton, which inflates pure counting numbers. Orton is still playing well though.
Roger Dorn - November 8, 2010
Its not solely trading away those players, but its the fact that the picks he ended up getting for them he squandered so he gave up talent for nothing…
Plus he gave up talent like hillis for nothing too.
Yeah guys like Lloyd and Gaffney are producing, but I think its much more a product of a system that is clicking with orton (and the pickup of orton is a move I respect). Its been 5 seasons since the last time Lloyd got at least 40 receptions and at least 400 yards. If a guy comes out of nowhere at age 29, my suspicions will be that the system did a good job of that (and this system has a history of that).
When you look at what he has done through the draft (overdrafted an average player in Moreno, Busted on Ayers, traded a first rounder in ’10 to get Alphonso smith who he then cut within a year and who is great with the lions now, pretty much everyone else from the draft has done nothing) and what he did with the picks he got, you can see why someone would say he has “destroyed the talent level”.
Honestly, I don’t think a guy they got like a Lloyd or a Gaffney is as talented as Marshall either.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Exactly.
He has NOT done a good job in Denver.
a) He had everyone on his nuts after the mishandling of the Cutler situation (remember back…he flat out mishandled that, and it was pretty much the second thing he did after setting his coffee down on his new desk…seriously)
b) If that happens, and you have a new QB coming in…what do you do? Keep your only all-pro WR. Oh, wait….I just pissed him off and he doesn’;t want to play for me.
He was in a PR nightmare, Comic.
Add to that he flubbed on Hillis. This is fact, nothing systemic about it. He did not see talent when it looked him in the face. Bad coaches who are too big for their britches and want to be the boss man make these mistakes.
He had NO idea Orton would blossom. No he didn’t. He got Orton as a band-aid, a what-the-hell-why-npt-we’ll-need-someone move. And the reason he has such inflated stats? No running game! No running game = 2-6. You decide.
Don’t defend the dude. He’s indefensible. He will end up destroying that franchise. They weren’t that bad that long ago.
Fifty-Eight - November 8, 2010
I am not defending him, but saying at least he did hit on orton. that may have just been a blind squirrel finding a nut (that phrase keeps getting botched in my head…earlier I thought it was a blind nut finding a monkey)
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Don’t get me wrong, I think McDaniels sucks but he straight fleeced Chicago in the Cutler trade.
“Denver received Kyle Orton and first-round picks in 2009 (18th overall) and 2010, along with a third-round pick (84th overall) in 2009 to do it.”
That’s not even taking into account contract and cap considerations (if it comes back) of Orton vs. Cutler. Cutler’s costing the Bears twice as much annually and Orton outplayed him in 2009.
Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
However, once he acquired the picks, he fleeced himself.
He took Ayers who has been a bust, and traded up to take TE Richard Quinn who has done nothing.
The first rounder from 2010 turned into Demaryus THomas and the jury is still out on him. However, I think that McD completely botched the whole belichick “trade down and move around the board” strategy.
a) they didn’t truly get enough when trading down
b) they ended up using the picks they got from trading down (from 13-22) to trade up to get tebow, and that was a terrible decision.
You also have to consider the cap considerations for Robert Ayers and Richard Quinn in this deal and they are significant contracts (combined they are costing the broncos 4.4 million annually)
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Right on. I think McDaniels was in an enviable position (especially compared to Mangini coming to Cleveland) as far as re-building a team and he has completely screwed the pooch.
Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
Yea, he had more tradeable talent or talent to keep.
Roger Dorn - November 8, 2010
(a lesson in building a team from the bottom up)
Roger Dorn - November 8, 2010
and…………………..they’re 2-6.
why defend McDaniels?
can he OC, yes.
coach/deal with people? no.
discoinferno083 - November 8, 2010
he can coach/deal with people at McDonalds maybe.
da36chamberz - November 8, 2010
you could have just said McDaniels is a tool and left it at that.
what a laughingstock.
discoinferno083 - November 7, 2010
Also Hillis (allegedly) had a thing with McDaniels’ wife.
notthatnoise - November 7, 2010
If Peyton Hillis wanted to have a “thing” with your wife you wouldn’t get rid of him. You would have him and her make baby Peyton’s and ride them to NFL superstardom.
Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
or get rid of her
9James - November 8, 2010
Mr. Hillis, I would be honored for you to take my wife.
Roger Dorn - November 8, 2010
Haha. Mike Golic this morning was talking about Hillis’ huge arms and how he wished he had arms like that. Greeny was joking that they needed to come up with a Peyton Hillis song for him (they used to play a Brady Quinn love song whenever they talked about him because he was from Notre Dame like Golic).

SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
wow…stafford had another great game. Either way, I had Eli starting.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
Good game for the Browns, congratulations.
I’m down about the result as a Pats fan, but with this young team a loss at some point like that is probably a good thing, at least as a learning experience – you learn a lot by being pasted. Better the Pats give up a loss in early November and get it on tape than a loss deep in December or January.
Looks like you’ve got a good QB in McCoy, and Hillis did what a bunch of great RBs haven’t done this season. Good luck for the reason of the season, and please, please, please roll over the Jets. Ye gods. They scraped another win this week, it’s getting painful. If you guys roll them they might self-destruct… and you’d get double-pleasure from seeing Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards at each other’s throats.
Comedic.Sans - November 7, 2010
It would be nice to see mangini paste his old team (which he was unjustly deposed from) and his old mentor back to back. Personal vindication for the Mangenious.
jaws. - November 7, 2010
Mhm
Although he might enjoy it more if he got to hammer Favre rather than the Jets – it was really Favre’s gunslinging that lost Mangini a lot of those late-season games in the Jets.
To be fair, it looked more like Brian Daboll out-thought Hoodie than Mangini this week (although Mangini gets his props too, of course). Daboll’s another ex-Pat employee, bleh. Want to trade him for O’Brien? Please?
Comedic.Sans - November 7, 2010

Well mangini as HC is in charge of getting the team focused and motivated, and he has a hand in what goes on on D especially. He definitely had these players on the ball this week
bross09 - November 7, 2010
You mean Ray Lewis hasn’t already done it yet?
BrownDawg1409 - November 8, 2010
I'm expecting that if they have consecutive losses, they'd tear that locker-room apart.
Sanchez hasn’t shown anyone he’s a leader, LaDanian Tomlinson is bound to break down physically and/or mentally at some point. Santonio Holmes and Braylon Edwards… well, ‘nuff said. Antonio Cromartie can’t work out a condom, let alone a locker-room. Darrelle Revis signed his new contract and was already planning his next holdout (I wish I was kidding).
All those me-first guys are fine when they’re winning. Give them a loss or three and they’ll be blaming each other willy-nilly.
Comedic.Sans - November 8, 2010
Did you see our fanshot? BE was already blaming the other receivers for forgetting how to catch.
It’s already happening.
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
I think I caught it. It’d be 100x worse if they’d lost consecutive games. Damned Lions, messing things up…

I sure hope we stick with him…I don’t see how you can go back to Delhomme after the past few games Colt has played.

And yes, I felt like this back at the Steelers game and I do feel this way now: It is McCoy’s team to lose.

Congrats you guys!!!!
I watched the game online, and couldn’t take my eyes off it!
McCoy diving for the end zone…Hillis running wild as the
Denver Broncosfeatured running back…Brady confused & frustrated…Justin Bieber showing up in the Patriots locker room & demanding his hair back….beautiful game for you guys. you earned this!!!Fifty-Eight - November 7, 2010
Thank you. See you in Week 17.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
Looking forward to sweeping you guys...but it won't be a gimme by any means. You guys are acquiring the "swagger" :)
Fifty-Eight - November 7, 2010
thank you. I like this team’s swagger and play. It will definitely be a good game, considering how well we played you guys in Pittsburgh.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
week 17 is in Cleveland, no?
discoinferno083 - November 7, 2010
yeah. Plus Pitt may have already locked up a playoff spot (just another reason why we could win). we get 2 division opponents at home to end the season.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
I hope you are planning on using those tickets !
Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
I hope that the game actually means enough that the majority of Browns fans keep their tickets and don’t sell them to Stealers fans. I hope the place rocks.
woodsmeister - November 8, 2010
the Pittsburgh Game? they are my dad’s tix and he sold them. He sold a lot of the tix this year b/c
a) he needs the $ (and doesn’t want to lose his PSL)
b) he sold them in fact the week after the first pitt game when we were 1-5 and he was a bit pessimistic about the team
Don’t worry though, he sold them to a browns fan (also a reply to woodsmeister below)
Pretty much, he sold games against popular teams (sold NE, sold Pitt, Might have sold baltimore…all to browns fans though)
I think I might get to see the panthers game though…
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Yeah the Pitt game. I was just making light of the discussion I remember us having awhile back about your Dad looking to sell the tickets.
Glad to see the seats will stay orange and brown.
Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
No worries in that category
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Aaron Rodgers is killing it.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
Rodgers kills it like Jared eats at Subway.
Automatic.
Fifty-Eight - November 7, 2010
I thought this team was turning a corner after the Steelers game, but I didn’t expect this. Today was a straight ass kicking.
My favorite Colt McCoy moment today was the play in which they had a miscommunication between McCoy and Hillis. The play looked busted from the start. Instead of panicking, McCoy out ran the free rusher, stayed calm, kept his eyes downfield and found I believe MoMass for a first down.
It was a simple play that could have been a loss of 5 yards, but turned into a first down. It was a thing of beauty.
My other note is that this Browns team is tuning into a sledgehammer. I watch other games and don’t see many teams that have the amount of physicality that we have. You could see it in the Pats late in that game. We didn’t just beat them on the scoreboard, we beat them up.
(Sidenote: I have never been more convinced that Wes Welker is a dud.)
Bernie19Kosar - November 7, 2010
McCoy is a keeper, man.
If your team continues flirting with drafting Luck or any other QB in this years draft, I’d be pissed. Your present and future QB was drafted this last year. Period.
Fifty-Eight - November 7, 2010
I am starting to believe that we won’t be close to drafting Andrew Luck.
I am totally cool with that.
Bernie19Kosar - November 7, 2010
We won’t be close nor may we need to.
Also cool with that. Green, Orange and Brown sounds good :D
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
bross09 - November 7, 2010
Bills take him at #1.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
have you seen the Bills’ draft history?
i’d be surprised if they take someone they actually need.
discoinferno083 - November 8, 2010
Luck, Peterson, Prince A, AJ Green are all looking like pipe dreams. Time to start looking in the 10-15 range.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
Walter has us taking Nick Fairley from Auburn.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
not a bad pick either. As of right now, I think thats a bit of a reach on fairly (great but not elite skill set, only one year of significant/early round production). If he finishes the season strong, I won’t hate the pick if we make it.
I don’t mind either the pick of Broyles, but I hate the Will Hill pick. He has prototypical measurables, but no picks this year. right now I want a Earl Thomas type and if not, just take a Corner and move Brown to FS (maybe one of the Colorado Corners). This is gonna be a very bad draft for Safeties, especially the earl thomas type.
On that Topic, how has Deandre McDaniel done this year?
bross09 - November 8, 2010
He hasn’t been as good this year. Last year he had 98 tackles and 69 the year before that. This year he has 45, but also 4 INTs. I’m not sure what round he’s supposed to go in… probably the 4th?
DaQuan Bowers is amazing though. He has 12 sacks compared to 3 last year and already has as many tackles as last year. But rufio said we wouldn’t have a place to put him on the line, because Clemson runs a 4-3 and we run a 3-4.
emily522 - November 8, 2010
Yeah. Bowers seems like a 4-3 guy (like that one DE from GT I forget the name of). I know some places (including walterfootball…I know) had him as a first rounder (McDaniel) or 2nd rounder. I mean the guy has elite talent and puts up a lot of tackles so that does make some sense.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I absolutely loved Bowers in my Clemson NCAA 10 dynasty. I think I broke the sack record with him. Yeah, it was just a game, but I wouldn’t complain if we got him.
da36chamberz - November 8, 2010
Scouts Inc has McDaniel as a 2nd rounder. Bowers is rocketing up their board, but he is a little between DE and OLB for us.
rufio - November 8, 2010
Moore out of UCLA would be a great add at S. There usually aren’t 2 top-10 picks at S in a draft, I wouldn’t consider this one particularly weak. There are several guys who are 2nd rounders who could be solid compliments to TJ. I am not high on WIll HIll, I question his effort and that is never a good thing.
CU’s corners are not that good. The one is probably a mid-late second rounder depending on how he runs, but he’ll never be more than an average #2 IMO.
The kid you want from CU is Solder.
rufio - November 8, 2010
I haven’t heard of Solder.
I kinda like the CU Corners. I think that he could be a solid #2 if it is the one you are thinking of. I just like their physicality and playmaking ability.
Is Moore a FS and what would we have to spend for him? No SS or FS/SS Hybrids right now. we need an Earl Thomas type back there who can play centerfield and cause turnovers.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Mangini loves interchangeable safeties. The knock on Moore is his lack of size (under 200lbs). He can play centerfield—so he’d be what you want thought not necessarily what Mangini wants. I wouldn’t mind having him and teammate Akeem Ayers on the Browns but both might be gone by our 2nd pick.
Solder is a LT and I don’t know if he could play RT in the league or not. Freak athlete, plays a little too high, needs to refine his technique. 6’9", 315+lbs and he’s ripped (like 4-8% body fat). His weight room numbers are insane. Smart, hardworking kid as well. He’s likely to go in the late first round.
rufio - November 8, 2010
Solder sounds nice. My guess is with his strength, he would be a better fit at RT. His size is awesome, but I have always thought of LT as a technique position and RT as the guys who have the size of an LT, great strength, but maybe not the best technique.
I like what I found about moore. He is barely under 200 LBS and a solid year in the weight room could easily put him above (if the weight numbers I saw were accurate) 200. I do like what he did last year, but looking at his stats from this year…what happened?
Not sure if I would want to take him with our 1st rounder, but he looks like he will be gone by our 2nd rounder
bross09 - November 8, 2010
When people find out you are good, they avoid you as a defender.
Typically, LT requires more athleticism and potentially less brute power. Every position on the field demands technique.
rufio - November 8, 2010
thats true. Revis-esque
Yeah, all positions demand technique. however I have always thought of LT as a position where its much harder to get away with technique deficiencies.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I would like the Moore pick.
StuckInPa - November 8, 2010
Hell yes they are! Woooooo!
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
Well we’ve already won more than 0 games so I don’t think we’ll have the shot at him.
rufio - November 8, 2010
You got that right, I’ve been saying that Colt McCoy, is going to be a star in this league every since we got him. I just hope the Browns know that as well, and not try to draft another quarterback, we don’t need one.
COLT MCCOY IS OUR MAN, THIS TEAM IS ON THE VERGE OF GREATNESS.
dawginhouston - November 7, 2010
He actually threw that pass to Robiskie if you can believe it.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
Was listening to the announcers when he threw that running pass that whats-his-name dove for and caught.
BEautiful throw, good heads up play, and all the announcers would say was how the receiver made such a great pass. I envisioned McCoys friends and family yelling at the TV, “What about the QB???”
Fifty-Eight - November 7, 2010
This is what I love about him. there were 2 or 3 instances where it was a busted play that I saw that someone like seneca would have probably just turned into a loss or no gain, but he turned it into positive yardage.
Plus, the audible call on 4th down was brilliant. I don’t know why this isn’t tried more…
…Come on, welker isn’t a dud. Not only did he get 36 receiving yards but he kicked an extra point.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
That was one of the worst kicked footballs (high school games I’ve seen included) I’ve ever seen in my life.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
He got a point for that in fantasy.
Bernie19Kosar - November 7, 2010
really?
bross09 - November 7, 2010
You can’t deny him that point. If kickers gain +1 point for an making an extra point than a wide receiver has to gain +1 point for doing the same thing. It’s the same reason running backs get points receiving. It’s a very odd situation, but the same principle.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
Its not that shocking to me, just amusing…that was what the Really? was for.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I hope you could tell I was joking. I was with B19K on the whole “anti-welker thing” and I figured adding the XP would show how facetious I was being.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
Correction, that was a 20 yard pass to MR. ROBO.
BrownDawg1409 - November 8, 2010
Domo arigato, Mr Robo-to. I really liked seeing him catch a pass. Same with the Chainsaw Massaquoi.
da36chamberz - November 8, 2010
Same. I’m still holding out hope that he can bring something to the team.
emily522 - November 8, 2010
I think they both could if we had a #1 Wideout. They would both probably be better suited in the slot. Just look at what “Stuckey in the middle” has done.
da36chamberz - November 8, 2010
He can, we’d just need to play him in the slot. Our offense goes through the middle much more than other NFL offenses. So #2 (2nd eligible receiver in from the sideline) will be the primary read more often than the widest man.
If we get a true #1 WR, he takes the outside and can probably beat the coverages he will see. That leaves Mass and Robi in a lot of Man-0.
We’d also need to pass the ball more, probably.
rufio - November 8, 2010
excellent mo mass nickname.
discoinferno083 - November 8, 2010
I never would have imagined a word rhyming with Massaquoi. Rec.
Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
I almost feel a bit bad for Wade Phillips.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
Um wow why didn’t he challenge that?
emily522 - November 7, 2010
His knee was down. That was not a fumble.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
Out of timeouts.
golanbatrac - November 7, 2010
No timeouts. And it’s really dumb that not every play is automatically reviewed (i.e. college football).
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
That sucks!
emily522 - November 7, 2010
They do that because College coaches can’t challenge like us.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
College coaches don’t need to because that would be redundant.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
The one thing college football has right is the challenge situation.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
(and yes I hate college OT, but I also hate pro OT)
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
agreed. Pro OT is annoying, but college OT can be annoying too. However, college OT can get really intense…like the Illinois/Michigan Game.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
AAAAAAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH!
Chemo - November 7, 2010
??
bross09 - November 7, 2010
(Illinois fan)
Chemo - November 7, 2010
It was so unfair. I thought you guys outplayed them.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
In a game where we rushed for 315 yards at 5 ypc, we kicked three times on fourth and one. Crazy that, in a 67-65 game, conservatism is what killed us.
Chemo - November 7, 2010
I’m a bit disappointed that I missed the shootout.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
I agree.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
ahhh. That sucks. I was really rooting for you guys. My family though (on my mom’s side) went to Michigan, but even they were a bit torn about the loss. they were happy, but at the same time this might be enough for Rich Rod to stay and my Grandma hates him.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
I agree. Making coaches challenge is dumb. If the call is wrong then the refs should fix it. Have a ref in the booth who looks at every play and lets the ref on the field know if a play should be reviewed.
Buckeye Brad - November 7, 2010
bross09 - November 7, 2010
It’s so much quicker in the college system too.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
More commercials for the NFL.
rufio - November 8, 2010
More reviews would equal more commercials.
Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
This is true. They should review every play but come up with something to make it take at least 120 seconds every time.
rufio - November 8, 2010
why? I personally think he is a bad coach. He might be a good DC, but not a good HC. with the talent and in-season production, they should have made at least one NFC Championship game.
This team has too much talent to be 1-7…even with their O-Line deficiencies and QB injury.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
Dallas is an awful football team.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
Bladed swastikas on a little league football team helmets?
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
? They’re throwing stars.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
Only Third Reich ninjas would ever use that kind of shuriken, it was totally a swastika.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
I should mention that Ryan Kelsay is right.
Dez Bryant is legit.
Bernie19Kosar - November 7, 2010
Only one who is trying and he’s just kicking straight ass out there. However, his play is not enough evidence to support that we should’ve drafted him.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
We can get a good receiver in the first or second round this year.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
…Haha, yeah. Second round WRs…
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
This WR class is deep. ‘09 was awful as we’ve discussed.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
A guy like Johnathan Baldwin could drop to the 2nd in the ’11 draft. Looking at the ’09 draft, I would say he gets drafted top 15 and the 2nd WR taken.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
I need Dez Bryant to be legit for the rest of the game. This little snap then pass it to Bryant on the LOS is not doing much for my fantasy team.
shep615 - November 7, 2010
He is definitely really good, however I am still not 100% sold on his deep speed or him being a legitimate deep threat. He has been great, but he hasn’t made a ton of big plays before today and his first down % and yards per catch look more like the #s of a posession WR right now.
He definitely has stellar hands and body control.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
That doesn’t matter. The team sucks.
Also, terrible pick by Dallas.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
I’ve been on Dez Bryant telling my friends he is better than Crabtree back when they were both in the Big 12.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
Rodgers has thrown 243 yards and it’s the middle of the 3rd quarter.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
I had roughly a 50 point lead in fantasy. Dorn has both Rodgers and Bryant. I’m terrified right now.
notthatnoise - November 7, 2010
Had a feeling it would be too little to late knowing Rodgers wouldn’t be playing the 4th. The most disappointing is Garcon putting up 1 pt. I liked his matchup this week.
Roger Dorn - November 7, 2010
Same. But for some reason Eagles put their best CB on him.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
Somewhat OT (semi-off topic but kinda random): I just found out that Colt McCoy’s run was the longest by a QB in 36 years.
The guy 36 years ago? Mike Phipps.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
longest by a browns QB
notthatnoise - November 7, 2010
This is important.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
yeah…oops. people probably still knew what I meant.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
I assume you mean longest touchdown run by a QB, because Derek Anderson had a 33-yard run back in 2006 against Kansas City.
Chris Pokorny - November 8, 2010
yeah…
I meant to say longest browns TD run by a QB. I forgot a couple words in there.
another QB lets not compare him to
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I don’t know if anyone else is watching this game, but Nick Collins is going to get fined.
I’m guessing 20k.
Bernie19Kosar - November 7, 2010
They just announced that this could be only Phillips’ second losing season as a HC (excluding interim) in his career. This was hard for me to believe, but its true. However, he is the NFL’s version of a trust fund Baby
Denver: He takes over an 8-8 team with a Shannon Sharpe whose career is skyrocketing and John Elway…Plus awesome defensive talent like Steve Atwater. He goes 16-16 there.
Buffalo: He inherits a 6-10 team that was in essence, a QB away from being something good. 2nd year RB Antowain Smith (who was drafted in the first rd) steps up, the FO signs Doug Flutie, Eric Moulds becomes a Legit #1, and he inherits possible future HOFers in Reed and Thomas. Usurprisingly he goes 29-19 there.
Dallas: It goes without saying. he inherited a playoff team with an emerging QB in Romo, and other Elite talent like Terry Glenn, Marion Barber, TO, etc…
When hasn’t this guy been handed a great situation? And he has disappointed in every one (except possibly buffalo).
Look at what Mangini stepped into, He stepped into 2 terrible Situations and made them better.
Just examples of why effectiveness of coaching is not all Wins/Losses. Phillips is showing why this is his longest stint as a HC.
bross09 - November 7, 2010
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
We’re also better than Dallas.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
Almost every team is at this point. 1-7.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
I was meaning more the facemask but sure.
We’re better than the Cowboys and Vikings. I’d love to see this week’s power rankings.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
Definitely.
emily522 - November 7, 2010
I don’t want to start a huge debate, but I honestly doubt we’ll gain too much ground in the ESPN power rankings.
Simmsinns - November 7, 2010
And the Cowboys will probably still be higher than us.
SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
Except that they weren’t higher than us last week — we were 26 and the Cowboys were 29.
Buckeye Brad - November 8, 2010
Maybe I’m thinking of the power rank the week before.
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
We were ranked behind the Bengals last week. Not to mention the Cardinals and Vikings.
shep615 - November 8, 2010
So? We had the same record as the Vikings and Bengals and the Cardinals had a better record than us. Maybe we should have been ranked below them.
Let’s not start this silly debate again. Every team’s fans thinks their team is rated too low in the power rankings. It’s just the opinion of a few people, and there isn’t going to be one ranking that every fan in the country agrees on. It really doesn’t matter and there is no right answer so it’s not worth getting worked up about.
Buckeye Brad - November 8, 2010
Oh I wasn’t trying to say we should have been ranked higher or anything like that. I don’t care that much about the power rankings. But I did look at them last week and was a little surprised we were ranked lower than some teams. I was just offering that maybe SB mistook the Cowboys for one of the teams that was ranked above us.
Power Rankings are silly. I know the Browns are the best team :)
shep615 - November 8, 2010
either way, the browns will be getting some respect in the recent power rankings.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Yes they will.
Buckeye Brad - November 8, 2010
I in fact searched week 10 power rankings and found one someone on bleacher report did already and the browns were ranked 15th.
just food for thought of how people now respect us.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Keep an eye out for my power rankings of power rankings, coming Wednesday. Last week ESPN was two spots behind BleacherReport, but after Yahoo bumped the Colts down two spots, anything can happen!
Chemo - November 9, 2010
yeah. I will look forward to it…I am assuming on here.
bross09 - November 9, 2010
What the eff happened to the Vikings?

rufio - November 8, 2010
They saved his job this week, at least.
Buckeye Brad - November 8, 2010
Holy poop on a stick!!!!
I mean, I picked the Browns to win, but I had no idea it would be that bad of a whoopin’! Frickin’ awesome!
I, for one, am not looking forward to our next game if it means “win and in”.
Steel Spike - November 7, 2010

Simmsinns - November 7, 2010

SpecialBrownie - November 7, 2010
Interesting little fact:
I looked up the Chansi Stuckey touchdown on youtube… And I wasn’t sure why it was called the fumblerooski. So I looked it up on wikipedia.
In 2007, the Spartans used a form of the fumblerooski against the Fighting Irish. The QB? Brian Hoyer, who if I’m not mistaken, backs up Tom Brady.
Ironic. Wonder if it brought back memories for him?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fumblerooski
shep615 - November 8, 2010
Cribbs said he was looking for Edelman because they both ran that play at Kent.
rufio - November 8, 2010
Yep.
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
I watched the play over and over again on YouTube. The only person on the defense that wasn’t fooled is #96 LB Jermaine Cunningham, the only problem is that we was on the opposite side of the run.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
Credit to Daboll: this is the kind of offense we should be running.
We need to have the waterboy “last game of the year, no reason to hold anything back now” attitude every week. Our defense is very good, but our offense hadn’t been able to stay on the field enough to give us a chance. We haven’t been able to move the ball or score consistently, so we dialed up the trick play to Stuckey, the fake punt, the lateral to Wright, etc. We have nothing to lose, we have to play like it.
I also felt that Daboll did a solid job of using constraint plays this week, without having looked too deeply at the film. It seems like 90+% of the time when Cribbs lines up at QB, he is going to run with the ball. We might run some window dressing that looks like a zone-read play, but it usually isn’t a read, it’s Cribbs all the way. We used that tendency to get the Stuckey TD score.
A little bit of the “eff you, we are running the ball” offense: Peyton Hillis had 9.8 ypc when the Pats had 8 or more in the box. Entering this week, the Pats allowed 1.3 ypc when they put 8+ in the box. In addition to that insane ypc number, Hillis also rushed for 3 first downs and a TD in those situations. I cannot emphasize enough how insane this is.
rufio - November 8, 2010
It was great to see how psyched up the Browns players were throughout the game. The Browns have been believing in the team and Mangini’s system for only about a year now. Now they are getting some of the success they deserve.
I agree with you that this is what the Browns offense should look like and don’t hold anything back. I don’t think, that it was a gimmick or trick-play offense. To me, the offense was based on a solid run game, with McCoy making key throws in the clutch to convert long 3rd downs and open up the defense.
The Browns effectiveness running the ball was great, but not surprising to me. I think the Browns have frequently shown that they can flat out run the ball. In my opinion, they should have the “eff you, we’re running it” mentality in every game, all game. Even when down by 10 or 14 points, I believe a 60% run offense gives the Browns their best shot at scoring points. Only with less than about 8 minutes left in the game would I change that significantly.
9James - November 8, 2010
I love the power running game but I get nervous when I see Hillis limping and Bell already out of the game with an injury. Not that I much care for Bell when healthy.
Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
I do not believe in looking at % of plays called to determine offensive balance.
If we have “trick plays” we should use them. I have been in favor of more Wildcat/Flash/Cyclone all year. We don’t usually get 1-2 big plays per game on deep passes, so we need to generate them from somewhere; trick plays, special teams, something. The trickeration and weird packages also help keep defenses off balance—something we aren’t very good at.
Everyone should be at least a little surprised by our success running the ball against 8 or more men in the box. The fact that we can run the ball isn’t too incredible. But when the defense adjusts to pay more attention to the run and we can still run anyway, that’s impressive.
rufio - November 8, 2010
I’m so enjoying the successful combination of well-deployed trick plays, Ryan’s confusing defensive alignments, and a rushing attack that says “OK, defense, here’s what we’re going to do. Let’s see if you can stop it!” Just flat out fun to watch deployed. Throw in Colt’s accuracy and some excellent reads, and this is a team to behold.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 8, 2010
I get giddy when i see a pass from our QB that actually goes to the general vicinity of where it should go. i think DA was so epically horrible that he damaged my psyche.
Dawg Nuts - November 8, 2010
I actually don’t have a heart attack when Colt gets ready to throw either!

That’s a bit unkind. Though I have never been a fan of DA, he had some good games. Epically horrible is a phrase I would reserve for someone like Paul McDonald circa 1984 or Ken Dorsey.
elsandito - November 8, 2010
even in 2007 his accuracy was marginal and he was bailed out a lot by K2 and a BE who could actually hang onto the ball…plus Jurevicious.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Just because it is easier to get the ball into 12’ radiuses than 6’ ones doesn’t mean DA wasn’t getting the ball where it needed to go. Credit to him, despite the degree of difficulty.
Ken Dorsey was horrible.
rufio - November 8, 2010
this was my basic point. in his best season in terms of accuracy, he ranked 28th out of 33 qualified QBs in completion % with, IMO, a better supporting cast than pretty much all the QBs below him.
In his best season in terms of accuracy, he was barely better than Trent Edwards, Rex Grossman, and Cleo Lemon in terms of accuracy. these are 3 QBs I consider marginal NFL QBs. Out of the 5 QBs that ranked below him, only 4 are in the NFL currently and only one is currently a starter.
THIS is why I consider his accuracy marginal.
the fact that K2 and BE were there has nothing to do with whether he is marginal or not. they are just there to prove that even with elite weapons, he was still marginal while guys like Cleo Lemon, Kellen Clemons, and Trent Edwards didn’t have weapons like that.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I stated that he had some good games. I wouldn’t debate that his entire season numbers looked good. But, a QB that has a handful of good games should not be considered epically bad. Maybe my point of reference is different than yours. Can anyone here corroborate my comparison with Paul McDonald? I’d be interested in knowing.
elsandito - November 8, 2010
I disagree with this premise. Jamarcus Russell was pretty epically bad but had a handful of good games. BQ had a handful of good games too.
Paul McDonald had a handful of good games too. Ryan Leaf had a few good games too.
A QB is not what he does for a few games but overall in his career. every QB that has gotten significant starting opportunity has been able to put together a few good games.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I guess we can debate the term “epically bad” for awhile, but I know this: going into last season there were many followers on this site that believed DA to be a qualified starting NFL QB. You can try to revise history all you want, but that is a fact and would not have been true unless he had shown something of value previously. If you wish to label this as epically bad, I will have no problem with it or you.
elsandito - November 9, 2010
Yes, there were some that thought he had promise. Yes, he showed value. However, in the statistics I place the most value in, he was pretty bad. Everyone has a different way of evaluating someone’s value and my process that puts a heavy emphasis on TD/INT rate, Comp %, and QB rating and less on total yards, total tds, etc… comes up with him not being that good in 2007.
bross09 - November 9, 2010
Sign me up, I didn’t think he was a qualified starter, but I definitely wanted him starting over Quinn and thought he had “potential” to be a starter.
Villeslgr - November 9, 2010
I believe it to be completely accurate and appropriate.
Dawg Nuts - November 8, 2010
Holy shit. A differential of +8.5 ypc. Lawrence Vickers, Steinbach, Mack, Yates, Porkchop, Hillis, first round is on me. Joe Thomas, I’ll buy you all the pancakes you want.
Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
I loved Mangini’s comments after the game when he basically said “This is how I envisioned a Browns victory.”

golanbatrac - November 8, 2010
I think he’s right about all of it. This team is really starting to come together. While the win against the Saints was big, it was somewhat of a lucky break (2 defensive TDs, brees playing like shit); this win over NE was so much better becasue we just beat them in every facet of the game by playting sound football. no lucky breaks, no flukes. we were better, plain and simple. it feels good to be able to say that.
Dawg Nuts - November 8, 2010
This is my ideal style of football with a splash of improved passing game, and a bit better pass rush. On our way. Physical and tough will win a good number of games.
Roger Dorn - November 8, 2010
How smart is the team of Heckert/Holmgren/Mangini looking right now? You have the decision to steal Hillis, the drafting of Colt and the retaining of a HC that this team seems to want to play hard for. Maybe this is an aberration, but if it isn’t, we could be seeing the emergence of a new order.
elsandito - November 8, 2010
where do you find the cool stats like how RBs doo with 8 men in the box?
bross09 - November 8, 2010
It was on a sidebar at ESPN. It looked like it was something that they just tried to throw in there because it was noteworthy, not something they report all the time. FO probably keeps the stat somewhere.
rufio - November 8, 2010
McKoy is no boy! Rumble young man rumble!
Looks like we have a Quarterback!
I’m laughing my brass off at all my friends here in the Northeast who have been giving me crap for being a Browns fan!
And who is this Hillis? The guy is a beast!
CT Dawg - November 8, 2010
Where you been Dawg? Hillis has just been ripping it up all season!
It is as you have said, Hillis is a beast.
shep615 - November 8, 2010
He’s the Juggernaut bitch!
North Coast Flea - November 8, 2010
Well, after watching highlights of the game and checking stats (still don’t have television at our new place yet), here are my thoughts…
1) Colt McCoy should start for the remainder of this season. If he is playing as well as he is now, imagine how good he could be next year. I really like this guy and absolutely love his interviews. He may be the steal of the draft.
2) Peyton Hillis is a stud. He is no fluke, the guy can run the rock. We really need another back (Bell sucks) to give him breathers though. /Looks sadly at Hardesty in rehab…
3) Our defense seems to be doing a great job at disguising coverages. We are really improving defensively.
4) While Holmgren may think our WR’s are pretty good, I still hope that we can find a legit impact receiver over this off season.
Kimble_79 - November 8, 2010
THIS.
I dunno if the highlights showed it, but the 2 things I loved most about McCoy’s play was
-His ability to make something out of nothing (a broken play)
-His ability to call audibles.
i am calling it now, he IS the steal of that draft. there are only a couple guys right now I would even think have an argument as a bigger steal. Moeaki, Hern (both drafted later b/c of positional value though) and Shipley.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I don´t how we´re using the fullback as a feature back, whether it works or not. You´ll wear him out, and then he´ll get injured like he did in Denver. Stop doing that, I´m serious! He can get plenty carries at fullback in an I-formation.
Otherwise, Yay! Hurray! and Halleluja! Colt McCoy loose and limber in the pocket, and free to move around if the play breaks down, heck yeah!
It also looked like you found a way to support our slow linebackers, looked like gang tackling did the trick! Onward ho!
mooncamping - November 8, 2010
I was patiently waiting for this and you didn’t disappoint.
Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
So after listening to Moony and having a FB as our RB and with McCoy starting we have become giant killers. Do I get a complimentary foil hat if I join MIDAS?
North Coast Flea - November 8, 2010
The best tinfoil hats are always homemade and express something of the wearer’s personality. Get after it.
woodsmeister - November 8, 2010
…don´t like how…
mooncamping - November 8, 2010
Took a look at the midseason numbers. This is what some of our players are on pace for this year….
HILLIS 1288 RuYds 14 RuTD 60 Re 458 ReYds 2 ReTD
WATSON 62 Re 720 ReYds 4 ReTD
WARD 104 TCK 30 AST 134 TOT 2 FF
FUJITA 70 TCK 30 AST 100 TOT 7 SCK 4 FF
RUBIN 54 TCK 20 AST 74 TOT
BENARD 18 TCK 8 AST 26 TOT 9 SCK
I was pretty high on Hillis when we traded for him, but can’t believe that he’s on pace for 1700+ yards from scrimmage and 16 TDs. Watson is as good as Winslow ever was, Ward is the real deal, Fujita’s been insanely good, Rubin is putting up linebacker numbers at nose tackle, and half of Benard’s tackles are sacks.
golanbatrac - November 8, 2010
I am amazed how well Hillis catches the ball. And Rubin is an unsung hero. That guy makes plays all over the field.
Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
How many carries is Hillis on pace for? I would like that number under 400.
rufio - November 8, 2010
266. 4.8 yards/carry.
golanbatrac - November 8, 2010
That will do just fine.
rufio - November 8, 2010
perfect number. Just above 250, but not above the 300 threshold. I would maybe like a few less carries so he is closer to 250 which is Ideal IMO, but thats just nitpicking.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
He had a couple weeks where Harrison stunted his numbers, though.
Chemo - November 9, 2010
thats true. If we keep not using our backup, he may climb to 270-280.
I would like to see him stay between 250 and 270
bross09 - November 9, 2010
Watson has been pretty much MIA the last two games. 1 reception for 18 yards v NO and 1 reception for 24 yds v NE. #DisgruntledFantasyOwner
woodsmeister - November 8, 2010
74 tackles from a NT is nuts.
Bernie19Kosar - November 8, 2010
It’s all those extra tackles he makes on the sidelines. Lateral agility and effort FTW.

bross09 - November 8, 2010
When I watch the post roll in during the game threads, I see people that analyze every throw of Colt´s, and grade every drop back. The thing with Colt is you have to look at the big picture. He makes the throw when he needs to. The rollout to Cribbs – very few people in the NFL make that throw. Not Tom Brady, not Drew Brees, not Peyton Manning. Thinking of him as a game manager is missing the fact that he is a winner. Period.
realmccoy - November 8, 2010
there are plenty of QBs who can make that throw.
notthatnoise - November 8, 2010
I think he’s referring to escaping the sack like that AND making the throw. That’s hard to do, but other QBs have done it. It’s just a difficult play.
emily522 - November 8, 2010
I still think there are plenty of QBs that can make it.
Playing QB in the league isn’t about making the one play that no one else can make, it is about consistently throwing the ball into semi-tight spaces, maintaining possession, recognizing coverage, and playing quick, intelligent football.
If Colt can consistently make the aforementioned play, that’s when he’s playing well.
rufio - November 8, 2010
I know. I wasn’t arguing that no other QBs can make that throw, just that avoiding a sack and making a nice throw is difficult.
emily522 - November 8, 2010
Absolutely. He’s got the talent to do that, and that’s great. I guess I wasn’t trying to respond directly to you so much as to this thread in general.
rufio - November 8, 2010
the fact is, I dunno if either of our other QBs on the roster make that play
bross09 - November 8, 2010
No.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
JD definitely not, but seneca would at least not have taken the sack.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
While we want to do better than Jake and Seneca’s play to this point, I would love to have someone who could do more than Sanchez his way into the playoffs. I don’t think Peyton could have made the athletic part of that play, but I’d still take him over Colt for the time being.
rufio - November 8, 2010
no question. Peyton probably gets it out earlier anyways. This isn’t the only reason I would take Colt right now.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I only used the term “game manager” above because Hillis seems like the feature of this offense. I definitely has a very different meaning in my head for the term than everyone else here. Once I heard Trent Dilfer thrown in there, I took it back. What I meant was, he’s an awesome quarterback with the ability to make the plays that need to be made to extend drives and move the ball down the field.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
I think in the sense that this is a “run it right at you” offense, he is a game manager. this is a running offense and one predicated on shorter accurate passes too. the problem is the negative connotation with “game manager” that you get compared to Trent Dilfer, Elvis Grbac, etc…
His skill set is definitely much more than a game manager, but his specified role is that.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I get what you’re saying. As you can see above ‘game manager’ has a bit of a negative connotation associated with it. Hence, Trent Dilfer’s name being thrown around.
Monsters of the Midway - November 8, 2010
Question:
How do the Patriots and Saints defenses stack up to the rest of the league?
shep615 - November 8, 2010
Probably mid to high.
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
PATS D:
25th in PA, 29th in YA, 29th in PYA, 21st in RYA
SAINTS D:
5th in PA, 3rd in YA, 1st in PYA, 17th in RYA
emily522 - November 8, 2010
For the record the Jets are 3rd, 6th, 17th, and 4th in those categories. We’re going to have our hands full with their run defense and McCoy’s going to have to make some plays in the air.
emily522 - November 8, 2010
I’m surprised their pass D is that bad with their secondary.
notthatnoise - November 8, 2010
Brodney Pool?
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Revis Cromartie Wilson.
notthatnoise - November 8, 2010
Wilson has been beat soundly on a regular basis.
golanbatrac - November 8, 2010
which is surprising, since some people thought he was better than haden.
notthatnoise - November 8, 2010
Saints D is impressive to me with how much pressure they generate. Pats I think have some holes, but had been awesome against the run.
Roger Dorn - November 8, 2010
So, all because of this win we’ve been on the front page of NFL.com, CBSSPORTS.com, SI.com, Yahoo.com and probably others I have yet to find.
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
Loved seeing Mangini get the gatorade and the Thomas/Daboll chest bump. As much crap as those guys have gotten, I loved seeing them really enjoy winning. This team seems to have the same kind of gritty win, SF Giants torture thing going for them. No big stars, but a really good team.
HenryDawg - November 8, 2010 via mobile
This.
emily522 - November 8, 2010
The chest bump is the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time, some one needs to gif it.
North Coast Flea - November 8, 2010
Going into Week 10 last year, we had one win: the 6-3 disaster against Buffalo. The other games were pretty much blowouts.
Now we’re 3-5 (and sadly could be 5-3) and after the Jets, we could still have that 7-9 season I was predicting because our schedule gets way easier. Maybe even better!
emily522 - November 8, 2010
I’m optomistic…I still say 9-7
Kimble_79 - November 8, 2010
I am holding to 7-9 but it is ridiculous how much more competitive we are.

I think we’re capable of even better.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
8-8?
Villeslgr - November 8, 2010
Ah, yes that’s what I meant.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
Wow. Just watched the top 10 weekend plays on ESPN… The Browns game was in the mix, but it was the pass Tom Brady threw that deflected off someone’s hands and Aaron Hernandez caught it for the TD.
Ridiculous. There was also some no-name college team that got on the top 10 because their RB hurdled a defender. You’d think that when we blew out the Patriots, we’d get some plays in there. Like… Maybe the play where Hillis hurdled the defender. Or the Chansi Stuckey TD. But no. We see a Tom Brady TD, a horse race, a soccer goal that wasn’t even super impressive, and a no-name college RB doing exactly what our RB did.
I smell a conspiracy against the Browns.
shep615 - November 8, 2010
Considering ESPN’s love for Colt at Texas, you’d think his running TD may be on there too.
emily522 - November 8, 2010
You’d think. But it is the Browns.
shep615 - November 8, 2010
Please stop. ESPN and SI and everyone else have been praising the Browns all day today and yesterday. Let’s stop this silly “the media doesn’t respect the Browns” complaint.
Buckeye Brad - November 8, 2010
It is a little silly to complain about (because who really cares what plays were “top-10”), but at least he is making a valid comparison with evidence to back it up:
Hillis made a play that was just like the other play, yet we didn’t get in the top-10. We had lots of plays that were candidates, yet none got in. We had trickeration for a TD, a fan-favorite QB of two huge fan bases making a sweet TD run, and multiple Peyton HIllis plays to choose from.
Like I said, probably silly to complain about but it is a little surprising, is it not?
rufio - November 8, 2010
Not really. I’m sure every game had 2 or 3 plays which could be top plays. I have no idea how they chose them, but it’s ridiculous to complain that there is some bias keeping the Browns out of the top 10 plays. I would also guess that they probably try to show plays in there which they didn’t have time to show in their other highlights and they showed some of the Browns highlights in the game recap so that may be why they showed other plays. I don’t really know.
It’s also amusing that he claims that a run from some “no name college RB” shouldn’t be in there because evidently we don’t know who that person is so it couldn’t have been worth watching. Isn’t that attitude exactly what people on here complain about with ESPN, that they favor big-name players and teams? And now someone is complaining that they show a highlight of a college RB that he doesn’t know? It seems like he’s just looking for a reason to complain, like many other people do about the media.
Buckeye Brad - November 8, 2010
This. I’ve never been big on the ESPN bashing.
Dawg Nuts - November 8, 2010
This. Never been a big fan of them, but the whole conspiracy theory to me doesn’t hold water and they are ENTERTAINMENT People!

Roger Dorn - November 8, 2010
ESPN is a joke but not for the reasons usually cited here.
Roger Dorn - November 8, 2010
I couldn’t care less about Top Ten Plays, but I was a little surprised not to find a Browns story on the front of ESPN.com, or even on the ESPN.com NFL page yesterday evening. I also wasn’t especially impressed with the network coverage during the highlights/gameday wrap-up stuff. Maybe I’m too biased for my own good, but I thought the Browns win was the game of the day.
Western Reserve - November 8, 2010
I think you’re right. Maybe Vick returning and leading the Eagles over the Colts or the Giants and Packers blowouts. Personally I think the Browns ending the Patriots 5 game win streak in the manner that we did is more impressive out of those games.
Villeslgr - November 8, 2010
Of course, but I’m sure fans of the Eagles and Chargers and Vikings and Falcons and other teams might disagree. Every fan thinks their team deserves more coverage in the media. Every fan thinks their wins are more important than other team’s wins. Every fan thinks their team is better than the media gives them credit for. This isn’t a viewpoint that’s unique to Browns fans.
Buckeye Brad - November 8, 2010
Yeah, but the Browns game was pretty damn awesome regardless of what team you’re a fan of.
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
Very true.
9James - November 8, 2010
Very true.
9James - November 8, 2010
When have you EVER seen me complaining about the media? I mean, EVER? You’re honestly going to say that I’m looking for a reason to complain?
Look, if you don’t agree then fine. However, I don’t think I’m the only one that thinks it’s a little strange that a couple of the plays from the Browns games were more impressive than at least a few of the plays that made the top 10. And it’s not like I came at it saying “WTF? Another week the Browns didn’t make the top 10? I can’t believe this BS. It’s a conspiracy!”
In the end, no. It’s really not a huge deal that we didn’t make the top 10 plays. But seriously! A handful of other people have already said they were at least surprised that some of the plays from the Browns games weren’t covered more. The fact that you don’t agree doesn’t mean that it’s not worth mentioning or that I’m just looking for a reason to complain about the media.
shep615 - November 8, 2010
You did say that.
I’m sorry, that wasn’t meant against you personally. I just get tired of hearing people around here complain every single week that we don’t get enough coverage in the media. And some people here DO look for things to complain about, because they complain about he dumbest things. No, I don’t remember you specifically doing it before, so I’m sorry if it seemed like I was coming down hard on you because I didn’t mean to do that.
But, come on, after a full day of football Saturday and Sunday, not to mention other sports going on, there are literally dozens and dozens of great plays they could show. They only picked 10. I don’t really see why it’s worth even mentioning that they didn’t show a Browns play. Who really cares? And you did end with “this smells like a conspiracy” so it certainly seemed like you were saying that.
Buckeye Brad - November 8, 2010
Fair enough. It did seem like you were coming down a bit hard on me, but now I know that wasn’t your intention so I think we’re good there.
I don’t think ESPN gets together and says “Oh man, this Browns play was a good one… BUT they’re the Browns, so lets find a different one.” But I do think that the more talented teams see a little bit of favoritism from national media, and I think it’s planned- But I also think it makes sense and is smart. I think they want to appeal to the widest range of viewers, and the Patriots have a lot more fans accross the nation (lots of front-runners) than teams like the Browns or the Bills or other less popular teams. So I don’t think that’s the final factor, but I think it plays a part in what they show and don’t show.
And it makes sense. If you’re a Cleveland radio station, you’d be foolish to talk about any football team besides the Browns because you won’t be appealing to the greatest audience. ESPN is a national media outlet, so it makes sense they’d try to appeal to the greatest national audience possible, and the Browns probably just don’t do that at this point.
At the same time, though, it’s really not a huge they didn’t choose a Browns play for the top 10.
shep615 - November 8, 2010
All I am saying is that you often demand a higher standard of coherent arguments and proof/evidence to back up what people say. I like that this is a place where intelligent conversation happens, and I thank you and Chris and BK and everyone who helps make it run this way.
But you also say that dissenting opinion is welcome. Shep goes a little far with “conspiracy” but he had a point with at least some form of facts to back it up and you pretty much asked him not to make it. Considering you have invested a significant amount of comments to explain to everyone that there is no anti-Browns slant in the media, can’t you see how one might think that you are letting your investment in this argument get in the way of your “objectivity” here?
I agree that it would be a little non-nonsensical for the media or a specific outlet to have a bias against one team in particular, but shouldn’t this viewpoint at least be considered and not written off as “silly” if there is actually a point to be made? I guess I thought you were a little harsh on him because of the topic and not because of the validity of the point itself, which I thought was supposed to be what is under review here. Maybe I’m wrong.
rufio - November 8, 2010
I read shep615’s comment and wagered I’d see you post this within three comments, BB. Dead on, too.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 8, 2010
I disagree. From what I’ve seen its the usual “what happened to the Patriots” not “the Browns smacked down the Patriots” Also in the highlights I saw last night, 2 of the 4 plays they showed were Bradys TDs. It doesn’t matter what they think or say though. The less respect we get I have a feeling we’ll play better with that chip on the shoulder
HenryDawg - November 8, 2010 via mobile
The Browns have been getting plenty of compliments. Of course they’re also going to talk about how poorly the Patriots played, because a 6-1 team isn’t supposed to lose to a 2-5 team, but they’re all giving the Browns credit. Read Peter King’s MMQB today, he’s praising the Browns all over the place.
Buckeye Brad - November 8, 2010
well first of all, one of those Pats TDs was just ridiculous…
Second of all, they probably also showed for us the Fumblerooski and the Colt TD as other plays. I can’t think of a 3rd play that was THAT much better than the 2nd Pats TD.
the browns are getting respect though. like BB also said.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
Tipped pass and a fade to the corner aren’t that unusual. But even more to the point is that the highlights should reflect the game, meaning they should have shown mostly Browns highlights.
HenryDawg - November 8, 2010 via mobile
highlights should be the “highlight plays” of the game. the idea is to show the best and/or key plays of the game. thats what I felt they generally did.
Really? that play by Hern isn’t that unusual? Yeah, guys catch tipped passes in the end zone after an amazing leap ALL THE TIME right?
bross09 - November 8, 2010
The Hernandez play was pretty legit.
shep615 - November 8, 2010
I just watched NFL Live on ESPN and they showed almost all Browns highlights from the game. They did show Welker kicking the extra point and said that was pretty much the only highlight for the Patriots. So I’m not really sure what the problem is.
Buckeye Brad - November 8, 2010
Seriously, campers – whw should it matter whether a Brown made one of the Top 10 plays. We won the game, and, let’s face it, that play by Hernandez was pretty amazing.
woodsmeister - November 8, 2010
Of course. It’s top 10 plays, not top 10 games or top 10 teams.
Buckeye Brad - November 8, 2010
I don’t care that we weren’t on there. I’m just surprised that we didn’t make it, because we had a lot of good plays that game.
emily522 - November 8, 2010
agreed. Surprised the Stuckey TD wasn’t in but i couldn’t care less
bross09 - November 8, 2010
First fantasy game all season I didn’t start hernandez. He scores twice. Figures.
johnnyphoenix - November 8, 2010
First time I sat him since week one. Jacob Tamme bailed me out by matching Hernandez’ point total though. No harm, no foul.
golanbatrac - November 8, 2010
I hope this is a joke.
Buckeye Brad - November 8, 2010
I think pulling off a fumblerooski and getting a big play out of it always deserves to be in the top 10…thats just my opinion
bross09 - November 8, 2010
It wasn’t actually a fumblerooski because the ball was never put on the ground. Cribbs handed it off directly to Stuckey, the trick is hiding the small receiver behind the right guard and disguising the handoff, and lastly snapping the ball while the rest of the o-line is standing up so the defense isn’t prepared.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
That horse race was absolutely epic. Did anybody else see that?!? I got into horse racing a few years back, it’s really a very exciting event even just for a brief moment.

Incredibly exciting. Wish she had won
HenryDawg - November 8, 2010 via mobile
Agreed.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
If you need a good Monday morning pickmeup, there’s no better source for comedic handwringing than the mile high report. Hilarious!
golanbatrac - November 8, 2010
I spent a solid half hour reading milehighreport yesterday. It only enhanced my emotions from beating down the Pats.
Roger Dorn - November 8, 2010
I will look into that.
emily522 - November 8, 2010
I know the Pats fan are probably gone, but I do want to commend them on their website. Their review of the game was excellent (no blaming so and so, just flat out stating “we got beat”) and I’ve enjoyed all of those from the site who came over here this past week.
So, Pats fans, if you’re reading, thanks for being classy.
DisplacedBuckeye - November 8, 2010
Hahaha, I love being reminded that we got Hillis for NOTHING… oh yeah, they threw in a 6th round pick HA!
And here I thought we’d be getting pocket lint for BQ.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
Two picks. We get a conditional 2012 as well.
golanbatrac - November 8, 2010
I figured the conditional pick was only if Brady played well, I guess not?
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
According to King in MMQB it’s at worst a 6th and improves if he plays.
Roger Dorn - November 8, 2010
And this is why we don’t run the team.
elsandito - November 8, 2010
Hey
Brownies fans, I’m glad Peyton Hillis is working out for you. There are so many angry Broncos “fans” that are mad we let him go. 2009 was horrendous for him but 2010 seems to be working out all right. You should smack the Jets around. The Lions lost only because Julian Peterson went braindead, a transgression for which should put him on the unemployment line in the D. Well, I’m glad you guys are having success. Perhaps we can have Broncos-Browns in the playoffs again, just like the good old days!
the new Bradfather - November 8, 2010
was 2009 truly horrendous or was he just shafted for PT by McD?
bross09 - November 8, 2010
The Way
I assess it: he fumbled a lot and he supposedly didn’t have that great of an attitude. That could be a bunch of hogwash but the point is he’s not in Denver anymore and he’s working out well for you.
the new Bradfather - November 8, 2010
I would be astounded if that guy had an attitude problem.
notthatnoise - November 8, 2010
I think the attitude is a bunch of hogwash. I have never heard anything from the guy that suggests a bad attitude…unless you are referring to the rumors he porked McDs wife.
Maybe he was fumbling in practice because he never got on the field enough to have fumbling problems.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I love Hillis, but he does fumble too damn much.
That being said, I still love him.
Bernie19Kosar - November 8, 2010
I love him too.
And AP fumbles like f-ing crazy but he’s still the best back in the NFL.
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
Not for long.
Yeah, I said it.
Simmsinns - November 8, 2010
And boom goes the dynamite.
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
Peterson has actually done a good job with that this season.
I think he has 0 fumbles this season.
Bernie19Kosar - November 9, 2010
Time will tell. But even then, it was a major problem for him but he was still the best RB in the league.
SpecialBrownie - November 9, 2010
I agree. Thats why I said maybe his fumbling problems were in practice.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
hillis was interviewed on the scott van pelt show this afternoon. he seemed very humble and respectful, so I doubt he had an attitude problem in denver. mcdaniels likely shafted him. or he shafted mcdaniels’ wife. either way.
Dawg Nuts - November 8, 2010
he has always come off as such.
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I had the opportunity to be down there yesterday. It was interesting how the crowd was. Surprisingly quiet especially when the Patriots had the ball. It was like people were holding their breath waiting for something bad to happen. Anyway, I stenciled this on to my Browns sweatshirt…
Brownsyup - November 8, 2010
The Packers just cut Al Harris.
golanbatrac - November 8, 2010
Just what we need. Another old CB who falls on his face at least once a game.
SpecialBrownie - November 8, 2010
This is how I see Colt McCoy compared to our other QBs:
-Seneca wallace is good at handling a broken play, getting out of the pocket and pressure and finding a guy for a positive gain. However, I have not at all been impressed with seneca’s pre-snap ability to read a D and his audibling (though he is a career backup)
-Jake Delhomme can read a defense at the line and call an audible. This is one of his strengths and one of the arguments for him in Seneca vs. JD. However, Delhomme’s true problem has been when a play breaks down. when a play breaks down, he can’t escape and often seems to make bad decisions.
-Colt McCoy on sunday showed he can call key audibles at the line AND he showed he can handle a broken play and make positive yardage.
-Jake Delhomme’s downfield ability is a threat. Though he is not the best QB at stretching the field, he is good enough so Ds can’t load 8 men into the box.
-Seneca, outside of one game with us, has never been much of a threat to throw downfield. Seneca has always trended to the dink and dunk game. However, defenses have to account for his ability to scramble and escape the pocket.
-Colt has shown in limited time that he can be a threat to throw downfield AND that he can scramble to escape the pocket.
After this game and the progression Colt showed coming out of the bye week, it is hard to make an argument that Seneca or JD are better options to start than Colt. Statistically, he is our best option to start and in the sense of what he brings to the field and his skills, he is the best option
bross09 - November 8, 2010
I think this horse is dead.

Some Interesting Statistics
Right now, no team in the NFL has greater than 6 wins. So if we maximized the current opponent’s wins possible as if we only played teams with the best record it would be 48. The actual number is 42.
The rest of the opponents we face have a combined win total of 29. For contrast, the same number for the Cardinals who must have one of the softest schedules to finish the season (49ers twice, Cowboys, Carolina, Denver) is 21.
This is kind of a funny aside… The Cardinals play 5 teams with current wins of 2 or less to finish the season. Though they are 3-5 right now, same as the Browns I predict they win their division. LOL. Go Derek!
Brownsyup - November 8, 2010
I love how you guys get so excited over a cheap win against a team clearly looking ahead to their Sunday Night game in Pittsburgh next week.
Villeslgr - November 9, 2010
Hey, Negative Nancy! Way to… ummm… You might be right.
But even still, it’s not like they gave the win away. We played hard and earned it.
shep615 - November 9, 2010
Sorry that was /sarc or /imitation. Been kind of quiet around here lately.
Yes I am an ass.
Villeslgr - November 9, 2010
If you’d put this in about 2 days ago you would have started a gigantic flame war! Good /sarc…
