Have a Happy Halloween everybody!
The Cleveland Browns are on a bye this week, so we'll be rooting for the Bengals and the Steelers to lose their Sunday contests (the Ravens are also on the bye). Use this thread to discuss any of the action today.

Happy Bye Week everyone. Enjoy a Sunday without stress from our Browns.

Browns 11 — Bye 5
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
Browns in a laugher.
Roger Dorn - November 1, 2010
Bye weeks suck.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
OT- but Ditka named Joe Thmas #8 on list of scariest NFL players.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Was this on TV or is it online somewhere?
rufio - October 31, 2010
TV
StuckInPa - October 31, 2010
I hope I can see the Patriots game, so I can study up on next week’s opponent.
9James - October 31, 2010
I’d rather watch the London game than the Bengals.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
I’m just watching the Red Zone Channel all day.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I switched to the Jets and Green Bay.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
Bad choice
Roger Dorn - November 1, 2010
Best wishes to all for an enjoyable weekend. Colt was in Austin last night as his number 12 was retired – congratulations Colt. No Longhorn got more out of their talent, worked harder, or competed harder than Colt and I hope that those characteristics carry over and help the Browns restore their once proud tradition.
Longhorn faithful missing Colt – lose to Baylor. Yup – Baylor. Back to back losses at home to Baylor and ISU. Never take winning for granted Buckeye fans.
realmccoy - October 31, 2010
Too late.
Adrock2099 - October 31, 2010
Is Hicks playing any for you guys? Redshirting?
I remember cursing him for picking Texas over the Buckeyes. Kid’s got a ton of talent
rose_11 - October 31, 2010
He is doing real well. He has played mostly at special teams, but one week a LB was hurt and he had double digit tackles, and led the defense.
realmccoy - October 31, 2010
Deangelo Hall still nabbing picks.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Wow. Watched a couple of plays in the Dallas vs. Jacksonville… Dallas looks BAD.
shep615 - October 31, 2010
that’s because they are. they won’t be able to defend david garrard…. he is a pro bowl quarterback, after all.
davus - October 31, 2010
Haha, they just got torched by Marcedes Lewis.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I have family that are always jawing about “Them Boys”. I hope they only win one game all season.
Kimble_79 - November 1, 2010
Wacky play for Bungles’ second touchdown – defender bobbles interception and it goes right into TO’s hands.
woodsmeister - October 31, 2010
Yeah, the Bengals got a gift there. Bad throw by Palmer and it should have been a pick.
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
Just saw it. That was hilarious!
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Not when T.O. is on your opposition’s fantasy team. That’s alright. My team was awesome this week.
StuckInPa - October 31, 2010
Calvin Johnson is not human.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Suh is not human either. I’m glad Delhomme’s head stayed on his body when we played the Lions. Kid has 7 sacks this season in as many games.
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
Right you are.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
darn it nick folk. you’re ruining my chances at a free tim couch jersey.
davus - October 31, 2010
I picked up Dan Carpenter for the bye week. He has 19 fantasy points.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
i picked up kitna… he is doing as well as you would expect him to do
the_fox_and_the_browns - October 31, 2010
troy smith has been doing a good job so far
davus - October 31, 2010
YES! Steve Johnson for the TD! I needed that.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Palmer just threw the game away. Cleveland is no longer in the cellar in the AFC North — been awhile.
TheDriveStillHurts - October 31, 2010
We’re still in the cellar. It’s been awhile since we had company.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
We got the tiebreaker.
TheDriveStillHurts - October 31, 2010
woohoo!
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
This is true.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
God damn. Calvin Jr. with another TD. Awesome.
StuckInPa - October 31, 2010
Anybody watching “America’s Game?”
StuckInPa - October 31, 2010
mmm…you mean the Fox 4:20 game, right? Yes, I am. At first I thought you meant the Cowboys…
9James - October 31, 2010
Yea, FOX was calling it America’s Game for some reason.
StuckInPa - October 31, 2010
The arrogance of marketing, perhaps
9James - October 31, 2010
I heard that too; I think they just meant the game that most of America was getting.
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
Troy Smith’s line looks pretty good in his first start for the Niners — 12/19, 196 yards, 1 TD, 1 rushing TD in a 24-16 win. Does anyone know how long Alex Smith is going to be out? Will he get another start?
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
I heard at least a couple games, if not more.
StuckInPa - October 31, 2010
Denver D, not all that impressive. He will have an easy schedule the rest of the way if he can hold onto the starting job.
Roger Dorn - November 1, 2010
I wonder if they’ll give him a chance to keep the starting job for the rest of the season if he plays well, considering that Alex Smith still hasn’t done anything to show that he deserves to be the starter.
Buckeye Brad - November 1, 2010
My grandma is a Bills fan, and they’re about to lose. Lindell made the FG but a time out was called, then the next kick hit the upright. It looks like the Chiefs are going to win this one.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
The Chiefs missed the FG!
emily522 - October 31, 2010
They need to pass to Steve Johnson!
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
The guy I’m playing has Lee Evans, so that’s fine with me.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Haha, Chiefs missed again!
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I hope the Browns get pressure on Sanchez like GB did
9James - October 31, 2010
Cowboys lost again! Are they 1-6 now?
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Worse than the Browns!
9James - October 31, 2010
Of course Kenny Britt hasn’t done anything yet.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
chiefs in FG range now. i feel sorry for bills fans.
davus - October 31, 2010
Same here.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
it’s good, chiefs win
davus - October 31, 2010
OT, but anyone read the article where LeBron says that he would’ve done “The Decision” differently?
It made me laugh how he said that and then just a little later he joked around saying “Oh, but it’s not too early for teams to start recruiting me for the NEXT time I’m a free agent,” and then continued to say that he would be 30 next time he’s a free agent. But oh wait- I’m a Heat now, so we’ll just see what happens.
Already thinking towards free agency. Have fun, Miami.
shep615 - October 31, 2010
I feel sorry for Bills fans too. They did not deserve to lose that game. KC is vastly overrated. Remember they only came away with a W from Cleveland due to the refs.
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
KC has been solid.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
If by solid you mean barely squeaking by the worst team in the NFL at home, then yes, extremely solid.
Oakland are better than KC and should win the division.
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
They’re 4th in the league in points against on defense and 1st in rushing yards per game on offense. Solid.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
They didn’t beat the Browns because of the refs.
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
Just like the Dolphins didn’t lose last week because of the refs. The refs gave them 3 points and they won by 2. You do the math.
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
What does that have to do with the Browns?
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
NFL games have seemed kind of boring this week. Way too many dropped passes in all of the games I’ve watched.
Chris Pokorny - October 31, 2010
Red Zone Channel is perfect for these kinds of weeks.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I was going to post the exact same thing. Minus the Redskins at Lions game, I’ve seen pedestrian football.
We need the Browns back :)
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
Agree.
Saints vs. Steelers will be good though.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
The Pats should have never ditched the old uniforms.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
Speaking of uniforms, Arizona’s black ones today are awesome.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I enjoyed those
rufio - November 1, 2010
I like them.
I wish the Browns would wear orange and white jerseys for a game.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
I still want flat brown jerseys, flat brown pants, and flat brown helmets.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Too much brown.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
No such thing as too much brown…

Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
We’d have our home uniforms, away uniforms, and win uniforms.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I hate it.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Well the uniforms aren’t to fond of you either.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Every time I look at this, it screams Rob Ryan defense!
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
i am disappoint
davus - October 31, 2010
Our players would look like turds.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
You should add random pieces of corn to the shoulder pads. Complete the look.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
That would kill the look. Idea here is solid flat brown. I was too lazy to remove all the left over small orange stripes.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
lol
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
I feel bad for your sphincter.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Favorite.
Or have the orange pants with the brown jerseys.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Is that a dropped shadow under the letters? F**king disgusting. Also, to bright. Our regular home jerseys are about 13242 times better than these.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Letters and numbers. Fix
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I’d rather have these than all brown.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Obviously. You’re comparing your favorite to something you hate.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
More like this. With white pants.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Yep. If the stuff is blunt with no shadowing, I like it.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
I didn’t realize the one I posted above had the shadowing, which I don’t like either.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
That picture gives them too much justice, they look bad in practical use.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
I could see that actually. I still like the jersey like the one Colt has above.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Perfect.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
Not bad, I still prefer our current away uniforms.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Striped socks! Yes!
Chemo - October 31, 2010
I hate these because of the shadowing on the numbers.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
No orange at all, either on the shirts or the pants. Orange as the main color looks terrible.
kwoog - October 31, 2010
Maybe I’m bias because I go to Clemson.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
See, I don’t think it looks bad for Clemson, b/c it’s their thing. But I don’t want us to be the Cleveland Tigers. There is no better uniform in the NFL than our all-whites. The second best uniform is white pants and brown shirts. And I’d like a third choice, all brown, which would be an intimidating, dark look, but better than the forced “all black” of other teams (like the Ravens).
kwoog - October 31, 2010
Hmmmm yeah, I agree. I like our uniforms now, but I don’t think the jerseys like McCoy’s look bad at all. But now that I look at it, the style may be more “practice” than “game” jersey.
I think the worst uniforms are the Bengals. The tiger print is ugly. Those helmets are… ew.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Definitely agree on the Bengals.
kwoog - October 31, 2010
I like an all-white look with some brown highlights. Could look sweet. Or some white on white, but I doubt the league would be OK with that.
rufio - November 1, 2010
That’s awesome.
kwoog - October 31, 2010
Thank you. I’m glad that I am not the only one.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Never mess with the helmet. Never.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
I like the uniforms in training camp… white pants, white/orange jersey, orange helmet.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Disagree. Solid flat brown helmets = win
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Ugh.
Chemo - October 31, 2010
Hm?
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
No.
notthatnoise - October 31, 2010
Yes.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
No one agrees with you on this ;).
emily522 - October 31, 2010
I’m used to that.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
you do not change the helmet. ever.
notthatnoise - October 31, 2010
Disagree. Solid flat brown helmets = win
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
By the way, the helmet has been altered 5 times in the Browns history. So this absolute of “ever” is bullsh*t.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
We obviously mean don’t change the way it is now.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Well we’ve changed it for the throwbacks. So someone else out there doesn’t agree with this “not ever” absolute.
Personally, I love our helmets, and our current uniforms. But I also think an all brown win uniform would be badass.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I prefer our current helmets to the throwbacks. Agree to disagree on the all brown.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
unless I’m mistaken, th only alterations have been to the stripes. We have always had an orange helmet without a logo. that is what I meant.
notthatnoise - October 31, 2010
You are mistaken. We used to have a white helmet. Also, “you do not change the helmet. ever.” didn’t exactly translate into “as long as it’s orange with a logo” to me.
Personally, I’d agree that we always stick with the 1961-present helmet for home and away. But I don’t mind the alterations for throwback uniforms, and I would love the alteration for the win uniforms.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
We tried Brownie on it for a bit, but it never worked so he was dropped quickly.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
I agree with him!
kwoog - October 31, 2010
Alright 2 against like 7 haha.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
There is like 3 (maybe 4) other people in this thread that said the dislike the all brown uniform.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I’d like it with the orange helmet and original orange trim.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
Personally, I think that would kill the point and would just be our original home jersey with our brown pants.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Beautiful.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
See that looks better than all brown completely.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Decent, all brown is still much better.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
BQ ruins the picture.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
Rec.
TheDriveStillHurts - November 1, 2010
I was exaggerating.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
“Steward, bring my my brown pants.”
woodsmeister - November 1, 2010
They are a bit fruity, but that’s gotta be what the Pats were going for.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Hahaha, watch the tail end of Tate’s TD reception. He knows what those uniforms are all about.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
WELLS WITH A TD! Yes! I needed that.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
same here. One of my games is like a cripple fight. I’m wining 46 to 39.
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
I’m wining 53.5 to 39. But the guy I’m playing still has Matt Schaub, Chris Ivory, and the Steelers D left. And like I said, Kenny Britt or Zach Miller aren’t doing anything to help my lead.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
I’ve got Miller in that game. Give him time. He’s got Lynch and Mike Williams, so I’m rooting for Oakland for once in my life :)
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
Kenny Britt/Zach Miller are pissing me off.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Vikings going for it on 4th and goal. Peterson will probably get it, and the guy I’m against has him. Ugh!
emily522 - October 31, 2010
DIDN’T GET IT! YESSSSS!
emily522 - October 31, 2010
DA is about to go in.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
This will be interesting. Hopefully it means many Beanie Wells handoffs.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
I should have played Tampa’s defense over Seattle.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
picked up Tampa this week, I’m happy.
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
Kenny Britt is out with a hamstring injury.
FML!!!!
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Thank you, Brett Favre, for rendering one of the best receivers in the history of the league useless.
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
One of the best receivers in the history of the league does a good enough job of rendering himself useless.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Pound the ball into the end zone, Arizona…
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Yes! Steve Breaston didn’t catch the TD.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Crap my lead is down to 5.5. Definitely losing.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
This What Should I Do? commercial blows.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
the face of a true champion
davus - October 31, 2010
Why waste time with Mathews when you have Tolbert?
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
(rhetorical question)
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Is Aaron Hernandez hurt / inactive?
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I don’t know, but I have Hernandez and Moss in this game and they’ve combined for 8 yards.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
Britt & Miller- 8
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Well that’s all Moss because Hernandez has nothing, whatsoever. I’m not ever sure if he’s seen a snap. That’s why I thought he might be hurt or maybe inactive for some reason… I don’t know.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
There he is.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
Moss had a TD catch negated by pass interference. So damn. I have both Miller and Moss.
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
Hernandez just had a catch.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Ohh nice! Better than nothing.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
DA throws a pick.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Never mind. Holding on both sides.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Tom Brady needs to cut his hair.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
he wants to, but his wife won’t let him. at least, that’s what he says
davus - October 31, 2010
I know the story, but it looks awful.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
This.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
There’s a lot of players in the league who need a haircut. The entire Packers linebacking corps, every Polynesian in the league, anyone (including Josh Cribbs) with dreadlocks and Tom Bieber.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
I think some people can make long hair work. Cribbs and Chris Johnson for example. Troy Polamalu not so much.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
chris johnson’s hair looks horrible.
davus - October 31, 2010
Disagree, I think he makes it work.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Any man who goes to a stylist is no man at all.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
You call him a stylist, Johnson is likely to call him a barber.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Johnson would be wrong.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
Stylist Shop?
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
If anyone leaves that chair with dreads, it is.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
So if you know more than 2 ways to cut hair, than you’re a stylist? Ha.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Benjarvus Green-Ellis needs a haircut.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
Don’t diss the dreads.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
Seattle is awful, damn it.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I think that’s a fumble by Berrian.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Favre just got wrecked. Again. Tavaras Jackson 1/1, 1 TD.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
Chin busted wide open. Blood everywhere.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
I’m guessing it’s a deep cut, nothing broken as the announcers speculated.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
My guess was correct.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Glad I didn’t see that!
emily522 - October 31, 2010
he was carted off the field, curled up like a baby. Really feel bad for him, hope he’s alright.
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
I don’t feel bad for him. he put his streak ahead of his own health and his team tonight. he’s an idiot. He didn’t deserve to get injured further, no one does, but I won’t feel bad for him.
notthatnoise - October 31, 2010
If that’s the point your making than Childress is far more to blame, he’s the one who ultimately makes that call. Really, I’m certain they both thought he gave them the best shot at winning, rather than Childress trying to keep Favre’s streak alive.
Still, I don’t feel bad either. It’s a cut, and he’s playing football. There’s a bunch of players I wouldn’t feel bad for.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
There’s something else wrong with him besides the chin injury, if you’d seem him carted off the field you would have understood where I was coming from.
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
I’m still pretty sure it was just the cut on the chin.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
he played because he thought he was healthy enough to, which he was, seeing as he did pretty well. not sure why you’re calling him an idiot.
davus - October 31, 2010
How did he put his streak ahead of the team? Him playing hurt is still better than anyone else they Vikings have at QB, so him playing gives them the best chance to win. He wants to play if able to, just like practically every other starter in the NFL.
From watching the game, it didn’t seem like his injury made him play poorly, so I don’t see what the problem is. And the injury he sustained in the game had nothing to do with his ankle injury, it could have happened to any QB, so I don’t know what your problem is with him and why you’re calling him an idiot.
Look, I understand that many people hate Favre now because of how much the media has talked about him and obsessed over him the past few years, and that’s certainly your right to feel that way (although I think it’s a bit misguided), but it seems like you’re looking for reasons to criticize him now. If it was someone other than Favre who played through injury then I’m guessing you wouldn’t be saying those same things about him.
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
I would be, please don’t put words in my mouth (or in this case the opposite I guess). This is particularly annoying to me since when I first got here you angrily accused me of doing this to you. Stop being a hypocrite.
I disagree that Favre playing with a broken ankle is better than their alternatives. I understand he wants to play, just like any QB, but at some point you have to know it’s the wrong choice.
I won’t feel bad about any injury he sustained playing today because he shouldn’t be playing in the first place.
notthatnoise - October 31, 2010
I’ll concede Simmsinns point above, this might be more on childress than favre. favre would want to play no matter what, it’s up to his coach to tell him to sit. IMO, that was Mangini’s worst mistake in NY.
notthatnoise - October 31, 2010
Favre had a decent game though. More yards, one fewer TD and 1 more INT than Brady (and the next play after he got recked was a short TD pass by Jackson, so he likely finishes with better numbers than Brady).
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
wrecked*
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
I would argue that Jackson would have put up just as good of numbers.
notthatnoise - October 31, 2010
and adds a rushing threat.
notthatnoise - October 31, 2010
There is no way of knowing that. And considering that Favre, even slightly injured, is a much better QB than Jackson, I’m not sure how you can honestly argue that position.
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
1 TD less and 1 INT more is a huge difference IMHO.
StuckInPa - October 31, 2010
Please read that again. I didn’t put words in your mouth — that’s why I prefaced my statement with “I’m guessing”. I know you like calling me a hypocrite every chance you get, but please make sure you read what I wrote before you make such accusations.
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
I just googled ‘favre chin’, and the fourth result was to a Facebook page titled ‘If you kick John Madden in the chin, you castrate Brett Favre …’

YES! My opponent has AP on his team, I thought he’d get 6 there for sure.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
that was a nasty hit on Favre. Not pretty at all.
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
hahaha Heyward Bey scored a touchdown! Wtf!
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
he put a sick move on the defender too, probably the best TD catch I’ve seen today.
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
Haha, a backup Tennessee safety swung at a Chargers player, whiffed it completely, and strikes a ref in the face! Ejected.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
LOL
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
Awesome.

THat is former Ohio State Buckeye Donnie Nickey
Bernie19Kosar - November 1, 2010
Man, Derek Anderson is a stiff.
JamesPowell - October 31, 2010
Anderson just blew the game for the Cards with a crucial INT
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
Ah, memories of that Cincinnati game…
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Bahahahaahhaa! I needed Tampa Bay to win for a win in my weekly pool. I knew I could count on Anderson to lock it up for me!!! What a loser. Man I am so glad both of the stiffs are gone!
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
I think my post on the pool never came through. I only got two games wrong (the London game and NY)
BuenosAires_Dawg - October 31, 2010
Hey BA Dawg. Mentioned some time back that my wife and I are heading down to Argentina in late November and will be in BA from 11/20-23. Any advice on where to watch NFL (and maybe the Browns)?

I think they may be more motivated to win this week. And it’s in NO right? That’ll help.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
The Seahawks really need a QB.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
The Cardinals need one more.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
They could probably pick up Quinn for next to nothin’ from Denver. They hardly dress him for games anyway.
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
That would be counterintuitive.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I hope all the Mangini haters out there have enough sense in them to look at the current careers of both of the boneheads that occupied the most important position on the field for us last year.
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
And Arizona gets another one in the loss collumn w/ a couple more anderceptions. Why did I ever think he was a really good QB?
brownsboy14 - October 31, 2010 via mobile
Tony Dungy just called us a “gimmick defense.” Screw you Tony Dungy.

The "Oprah" of the NFL......
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
rec’ed
Roger Dorn - November 1, 2010
Gimmick defense = completely confusing to New Orleans Saints.
If it stops the other team, it will work for me. Ryan is giving us a good defense out of a few aging veterans, a few promising rookies, paper clips, and duct tape.
rufio - November 1, 2010
I can’t wait for a couple more Heckert drafts.
StuckInPa - November 1, 2010
I’ll agree, except the tone Dungy used was a lot less positive. He was stressing that the Saints run offense was soooo bad that they’d fall to a gimmick Browns defense. As if we are so bad that we can be a litmus test for failure of another team.
Simmsinns - November 1, 2010
And I am saying that he can insult us all day and all we have to do is point to the scoreboard. Wins trump anything negative he could say.
rufio - November 1, 2010
Oh I see. Agreed.
Simmsinns - November 1, 2010
Tony Dungy can rot for all I am concerned. His lay down against the Titans in 2007 is still one of my most bitter sport moments.
Roger Dorn - November 1, 2010
Same here. Won’t ever forget it.
BuenosAires_Dawg - November 1, 2010

I love how Steelers fans say it’s black and gold. No. It’s black and bright piss yellow. The Saints are black and gold.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Great point. Saints no what gold looks like. Definitely a piss shade of yellow on the Steelers.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
We oughtta com up with a name for their colors. How about; “Bloody Stool Black” and “Hangover Piss Yellow”
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
That first one is definitely graphic haha.
You could same about stools for the Browns though :P
emily522 - October 31, 2010
I think “piss and black” gets the job done.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
Maybe it will finally “click” by seeing a side by side comparison.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
I recommend this post.

You know what they say about imitation and flattery. When was the last time Dick LeBeau even gave a second thought to copying the Browns defense?

Good point. It still pisses me off though.

At least we got a shout out on SNF.

Ha! “Hines Ward is so great at blocking!”
emily522 - October 31, 2010
The dudes a major ass, but god, I respect his toughness. The dudes a great player, I wish we had someone like him.
brownsboy14 - October 31, 2010 via mobile
He’s had a few great seasons, and launches himself to players that aren’t looking, but he’s really not anything special at WR. The announcers mentioned Hall of Fame, he doesn’t deserve to be there with the likes of Jerry Rice and Michael Irvin. No way in hell.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I hope T.J. Ward delivers a hit that wipes that smug little smirk off of his face next time we play them. He’s a punk.
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
For the reccord ward is in he top portion of all recieving records in the leauge. I know we browns fans don’t like him but simply put the guy is one of the best recievers on the history of the game. If he doesn’t go to the HOF, I think it’s a shame.
brownsboy14 - October 31, 2010 via mobile
Also for the record, I did not mean to rhyme. I guess it was my poet self coming out. Yes I write poetry, go ahead and laugh.
brownsboy14 - October 31, 2010 via mobile
Ha ha!
9James - November 1, 2010
Just because he’s not Jerry Rice doesn’t mean he can’t be in the Hall of Fame. That’s the argument people always use when they want to exclude a player from the hall — that he wasn’t as good as the greatest player of all time at that position. A WR doesn’t have to be Jerry Rice to be Hall worthy.
I know we, as Browns fans, are conditioned to hate all Steelers and thus many have trouble being objective about them, but Ward has a good case to end up in the Hall when he retires. I haven’t looked at his alltime numbers to see how they compare with many others, but he’ll probably be near the top of most receiving lists when he retires and he was also a very good blocking WR who was part of (at least) 2 Super Bowl winning teams. I hate to say it, but he has a very good case.
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
Thanks for agreeing w/ me BB. Now just waiting for SB to chime in and disagree.
brownsboy14 - October 31, 2010 via mobile
Blah blah blah, a bunch of conjectures that I don’t feel like dignifying with a drawn out response.
This will be my last comment on this specific subject, consider this conceding defeat if it makes you feel better.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
You never made any kind of argument at all, but you’re calling BB’s statements “conjectures” that you don’t want to “dignify?”
This doesn’t seem like an argument that’s worth being a dick over.
Chemo - November 1, 2010
Just to add some numbers, Ward is currently at #24 in all-time receiving yards and #19 in receiving touchdowns. By the time he finishes his career, he’ll probably be borderline top-10 in both categories.
That certainly gives him a Hall of Fame argument, but you’ll have to consider the current anti-receiver bias, the fact that his numbers are inflated by the era, and the glut of receiver candidates that will be coming down the pipe. Guys like Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Isaac Bruce and Marvin Harrison will all be HOF-eligible right around the same time, along with current candidates like Cris Carter, Tim Brown and Andre Reed, who have all failed to get in so far. Ward is going to be compared to those guys, and I think he’ll come up just short.
Chemo - November 1, 2010
Thank you for the intelligent response.
You have a very good point about the lack of WR’s in the Hall and the large number who will be eligible soon (and are eligible now) with big numbers. Ward will certainly be behind some of them when it comes to career stats but I think some writers will give him extra credit for his good blocking and “toughness” (whether that’s actually true or not) and also the fact that he was the best WR on two Super Bowl teams (and he could certainly win more). But Chris Carter hasn’t even gotten in yet and he’s had two tries, so it will be hard for Ward to make it in over all the other WR’s. He’s certainly going to be in the discussion, though, and deservedly so. In any case, it’s wrong to dismiss his chances completely and say that he’s nothing special because that’s just not true.
Buckeye Brad - November 1, 2010
And should he make it into the HOF, Canton, Ohio will be absolutely unbearable on HOF weekend.
woodsmeister - November 1, 2010
I don’t know about HoF, but Ward is very good and has been for a while. His physicality and blocking are extremely rare at WR, and he can get open and catch the ball against just about everyone. He is kind of a dirty player though, yes.
rufio - November 1, 2010
Random, but has anyone seen The Social Network? Saw it today. Conclusion: Mark Zuckerburg is an ass.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Amazing movie. But there is a lot of Hollywood dramatization, just seeing that alone isn’t enough to conclude that on his real life counter part.
Simmsinns - October 31, 2010
I know, but he kind of screwed his friend over.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
He’s likely got some form of Asperger’s which would explain his behavior. Not even hinted at in the movie.
Roger Dorn - November 1, 2010
Should make my point…it’s a movie, don’t draw your conclusions simply based on that.
Roger Dorn - November 1, 2010
Dumb challenge. Buy hey, the Steelers have had favorable calls regarding fumbles recently, haven’t they?

golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
Got money ridin on those Saints – straight up – nothin big, more about wanting to rub a Steelers fans nose in a loss and make him hand me $.
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
Pats looked really good today. Jets defense looked awesome and offense not so much. Tough couple weeks playing the bullies of AFC East.
realmccoy - October 31, 2010
I’m more worried about defending the Pats passing game than any part of the Jets. Brady makes his reads and gets rid of the ball so fast it’s scary. The Packers are seriously banged up on both sides of the ball and gave the Jets more than they could handle today. I like our chances against the Jets much more than vs. N.E.
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
agreed. I think the Patriots offense is going to have a field day with us. Of course, I thought the same thing about the saints too.
notthatnoise - October 31, 2010
That 1 TD pass by Brady to 19 was unbelievable.
realmccoy - October 31, 2010
Several passes were out of Brady’s hand so fast the camera had trouble keeping up with the movement. The accuracy was out of this world too. Little tiny windows to throw through and the ball was right on the money. I’m not a N.E. fan or anything, and I can’t tell you when I’ve ever sat and watched a full game of theirs before. Probably why I was so blown away. Eric Wright is in serious trouble.
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
I don’t like our chances of scoring on the Jets D — Green Bay put up 9 points. Our offense is not Green Bay’s.
TheDriveStillHurts - November 1, 2010
DANG. The Saints D just wiped that silly smile off Hines Ward’s face. It was lovely.
shep615 - October 31, 2010
I was going to complain that the play before that was delay of game, not offsides, but the offensive PA evened it out.
notthatnoise - October 31, 2010
Looks like the Browns rubbed off on the Saints – eh?
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
One thing I will give to Mangini – he has coached his arse off against Bellicek. Think he has had like 2 wins with a far inferior roster with the Jets.
realmccoy - October 31, 2010
Troy Smith Contest Results posted.
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
Prolly will become the starter if he can repeat that performance.
realmccoy - October 31, 2010
I’m really not trying to open a can o’ worms – honest……but how do T. Smith and C. McCoy’s body style and strengths / weaknesses compare? I know Colt’s collegiate numbers blow away Troy’s, but other than that – how similar are they?
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
Troy is a little heavier/bigger and a little shorter. Troy is probably faster. Troy’s motion used to be slower than Colt’s (don’t know if it still is, but Colt has a nice, quick release). If I had to say, I would give the edge to Troy in terms of arm strength. Colt wins the short ball accuracy, but Troy might be a little more accurate deep.
rufio - November 1, 2010
Randy Moss + Post Game Press Conference = Gold
golanbatrac - October 31, 2010
I thougt that was pretty out of character – even for a character such as him. Pretty cool.

I think it’s because he wants NE to sign him when his contract is up. He quickly realized 41 yr old Favre is no Tom Brady.

THERE’S A CONSPIRACY AGAINST THE BROWNS! ;)
emily522 - October 31, 2010
Now we wait for BB to chime in…
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
We are last; we’re tied with the Bengals.
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
No, we’re third.
We beat the Bengals.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
You are correct
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
We’re tied for last. Anyone would say we’re last in the division, just like we’d say that about another team tied for last in their division. Tiebreakers only matter when deciding playoff spots.
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
Tiebreakers always matter.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
Only when it benefits the Browns, right?
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
I’ve noticed this about you, you seem to do it a whole helluva lot now.
Guess what. I’m a Browns fan. Holy crap, surprised right?
You use this disclaimer in every comment now man. No one here is ever going to be objective, why do you keep doing it? We have this damn objective/ subjective argument with you ALL THE TIME.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
I know you’re a Browns fan, just like I am. But the problem I have is when you complain that NBC calls us last in the division — we are last. They are exactly right. Tiebreakers don’t matter now at all. So why act like NBC is doing something wrong when they aren’t. That’s what I don’t understand.
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
I still say we’re third. We may have the same record but we beat them, in all parameters, that makes us third. We are better than them.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
That is perfecftly fine for your to think that way, but you can’t complain that NBC doesn’t say that. And it has nothing to do with the Browns, they’d do the same for every other team (and so would anyone else). You’re just nitpicking about nothing here.
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
You need to quit doing this, you really have no absolute clue what everyone else would do.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
I don’t know what I need to quit doing, but from watching sports for my entire life I do have knowledge of how people in the media report the standings so I’m quite confident to say that nobody in the media, when reporting standings, cares about who holds the tiebreakers for last place in a division. So, yes, I can say that NBC and every other network would say the same thing for any team which is tied for last in their division.
Why are you even arguing this? Who cares that NBC said we’re last in the division (when we are)? Why even bring that up to complain about?
Buckeye Brad - October 31, 2010
That gives you absolutely no credibility to say that but ok.
And I bring it up because it’s another example of the Media not giving the Browns credit where credit is due.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
Yes, of course, the “Media” is against the Browns. How did I forget that.
Buckeye Brad - November 1, 2010
This whole “the media is against the Browns” thing has gotten pretty old. The media is against consistently shitty teams, and we have been consistently shitty (pardon my French).
The year after we went 10-6, A LOT of analysts were jumping on the Browns bandwagon and predicting our winning the division. Too bad they were very wrong.
StuckInPa - November 1, 2010
This. And note that after the 10-6 season, we got a ton of national games, and the networks pretty much got burned for that as we quit after the sixth or seventh game that next season and then ended up starting Ken Dorsey (yikes).

Out of curiosity, did NBC refer to the Bengals in 3rd place, or did they say that the Browns were in last?
themadlibs - October 31, 2010
3rd – Bengals.
4th – Browns.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
Tiebreakers also matter when determining draft position.
If NBC has a policy of showing standings in alphabetical order, then this is a moot argument. But if NBC (and any other media outlet) applies some type of tiebreaker for first place teams, that set of criteria should be applied with all teams.
This is not a bias against the Browns – it’s a bias against puttin in the extra time to set standings as they should be set.
The playoffs argument doesn’t hold water – because last I checked, the Browns and Bengals have not been eliminated from playoff contention. So, playoffs criteria should apply to all.
Spidey - November 1, 2010 via mobile
My point is that the tiebreaker only matters for determining playoff positions at the end of the season (and draft order as well) so it doesn’t matter during the season. Whether or not the Browns are in playoff contention now is irrelevent to the point. When NBC (or any other media outlet) shows the standings now they don’t talk about tiebreakers if two teams are tied, they just say that they’re tied in that place. It doesn’t matter if they’re tied for first or tied for last. That was my point, so getting upset at NBC for saying that we’re in last place when we actually are in last place is just ridiculous. Can we please stop looking for supposed biases against Cleveland to complain about?
Buckeye Brad - November 1, 2010
We’re not in last though, so.
SpecialBrownie - November 1, 2010
We’re tied for last. Let’s go win some more games so we don’t have to resort to stupid numbers tricks to pretend we’re not in the cellar.
Chemo - November 1, 2010
Yatzhee!
Bernie19Kosar - November 1, 2010
Why can’t we be tied for third then huh? Why does it have to be last? Actually, we aren’t even tied at all because we beat the Bengals, which means we hold the tiebreaker. So, we aren’t tied because we’re third.
SpecialBrownie - November 1, 2010
You’re right, but just to point out… Even if we were tied for 3rd, we’d still be tied for last. Because there wouldn’t be a 4th place team. 3rd place would be last place at that point. Right?
shep615 - November 1, 2010
DBN – we can debate semantics all day.
Roger Dorn - November 1, 2010
That’s 86.3% of the conversation here.
Simmsinns - November 1, 2010
‘Here’?
golanbatrac - November 1, 2010
Oh my goodness. If there are two teams tied for third in a four-team division then they are also tied for last. Are we really going to debate the semantics of this?
If it makes you feel better, then you can say the Browns are third and the Bengals are fourth. But we both have the same record so we’re both third (or last) to everyone else. Tiebreakers don’t matter. Minnesota and Detroit are both 2-5 in the NFC North so every media outlet would say they’re tied for last, even though Minnesota beat Detroit. Nobody cares about tiebreakers in the middle of the season.
You’re making an argument about nothing just to complain about a supposed bias against the Browns. Please just give it up. Stop looking for biases where they don’t exist.
Buckeye Brad - November 1, 2010
You should read Chris’s latest post and then come talk to me.
SpecialBrownie - November 1, 2010
Not paying attention to all 32 teams—crappy or not—is still doing a poor job. It bothers me when people do a poor job. One mistake on live TV is not a huge deal, but it is a symptom of the larger issue, which results in crappier coverage.
Which is why I come here.
rufio - November 1, 2010
But it’s not a mistake, and it’s not about not paying attention to crappy teams. It’s not a mistake to say the Browns are tied for last, because they are. That how every media outlet would report it and every fan would say it, because it’s true. And they’d say the same thing if two teams were tied for first place (like Baltimore and Pittsburgh are), so it had nothing to do with how crappy the teams are. Why is it a mistake?
Buckeye Brad - November 1, 2010
As I understand it, there are always tiebreakers now that they’ve gotten sick of the coin flips for draft position. It really doesn’t matter.

Why would he be extremely generous for a Steelers player? He has no affection for them. He certainly knows more about playing center than you or I, so how do you know he’s not right?
Buckeye Brad - November 1, 2010
Shocking you’d put your 2 cents into this. It’s almost like I don’t even need to try anymore. I comment and you smell blood in the water. It’s predictable.
SpecialBrownie - November 1, 2010

Dude, it’s always the same jackasses following me around. You weren’t in this either! I thought BB was always supposed to deal with me, and not let anyone else start up something. Bullcrap.
SpecialBrownie - November 1, 2010
Nobody is “following you around.” If you make a stupid comment then people here are going to call you on it. If you want them to quit then stop making stupid comments. I don’t know what you mean by I’m the only one who’s supposed to “deal with you”. This is an open forum, and if you saying something ignorant or wrong then anyone here can reply to it. That doesn’t mean they’re “starting something up.” Quit whining that you’re being mistreated all the time.
I’m not the only person who sees the ridiculousness of comments like the one above. I mean, why would Bently have a “bias” for the Steelers or against the Browns? Why would he be “extremely generous” to a Steelers player? That just doesn’t make sense. You’re just making something up because his opinion is different than yours so you’re looking for a way to discount it. Stop making stupid comments like that and you’ll stop getting responses that you don’t like.

Ah, so true. An embarassment to flashes everywhere. How could such a dick ever wear a KSU uniform.
brownsboy14 - October 31, 2010 via mobile
Awesome. I’m so glad he wasn’t that “on” against the Browns last week.
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
Yes!
emily522 - October 31, 2010
HAHAHAHAHAHA!
emily522 - October 31, 2010
I’d love to use the sports transitive property here.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
I can’t believe the Cowboys are 1-6. I love it though.
emily522 - October 31, 2010
It will be a fine day when we can say the same about the Steelers.
DaveDawg09 - October 31, 2010
Yes. But it will only be truly sweet when the Browns are 6-1 at the same time. That will be true bliss. But this will do for now. And Jones makes it all the more sweeter with all his posturing and talking about hosting the Cowboys for the Superbowl in his huge stadium. I like the guy but you can’t help but smile a little at his misfortune as a Browns fan. I just wish we played them this year.
Brownsyup - November 1, 2010
Believe it. No line and can’t guard a soul.
Roger Dorn - November 1, 2010
So, I am a firm believer in the “Rany Moss” Syndrome. But NBC just wrongly pointed out Moss.
They tried to say that Moss gave a half hearted attempt to jump at a zinged ball in double coverge in the endzone to win the Packers game. Wow, really?
They then said that after drawing a PI call, that he should’ve kept running for the ball because he could’ve clearly caught it.
They were making something out of nothing. And there was a whole lot of nothing they were making it out of.
SpecialBrownie - October 31, 2010
He absolutely could have caught the ball on the DPI call. He was jogging for 5 yards and it bounced 5 feet away from him.
If he sprints, he catches it and walks into the endzone. If he jogs and lays out once he realizes he still has a shot at it, he catches it and rolls in.
rufio - November 1, 2010
Agree 100%.
I had no idea why he didn’t catch it. He looked like he dogged it on that one.
Bernie19Kosar - November 1, 2010
Yep.
golanbatrac - November 1, 2010
No doubt.
Roger Dorn - November 1, 2010
I really wish that ESPN or NBC could change who they were showing on Monday Night or Sunday Night Football. Nobody wants to see a shitty Cowboys team almost every week in primetime, and I doubt many people want to see the Bengals next Monday Night. I understand that the Browns wouldn’t be on right now since our record isn’t great, but there are much more deserving games for primetime.
StuckInPa - November 1, 2010
I believe that they have a flex schedule for the last 4 weeks of the season, where NBC can move a game to Sunday night if it’s a good matchup.
Buckeye Brad - November 1, 2010
Well that’s good I guess. Too bad I still have to see the Cowboys (or just not watch at all, but that’s no fun). It’s unfortunate ESPN doesn’t do the same.
StuckInPa - November 1, 2010
For some reason I think it is kind of funny when they schedule the same team on Monday Night for 3 games or something and then they end up sucking. Serves them right for giving the Browns NO games.
Brownsyup - November 1, 2010
The last year that the Browns had multiple national games they stunk up the airwaves like the Cowboys are doing now.
woodsmeister - November 1, 2010
Yup. And even last year, they still gave us some games, and we gave them the excellent Brady Quinn performance against Baltimore where we had like 5 yards total offense and got beat 16-0. (Though we did give them a good Thursday night game against the Steelers.)
TheDriveStillHurts - November 1, 2010
I think it would be too much trouble for the fans to change a game from Sunday to Monday (or vice versa) so that’s why they don’t do it for MNF. It’s much easier to change a game from Sunday afternoon to evening.
Buckeye Brad - November 1, 2010
Agree.
emily522 - November 1, 2010
Interesting (and probably useless) stat, we are 2-0 when we score more than 23 points. Think we can muster that much against NE next week?
StuckInPa - November 1, 2010
I don’t think that stat is entirely useless. It doesn’t tell the whole story, but if we can score our D is good enough to at least slow the other team down. We usually have to avoid stupid turnovers to score that much, which helps us win as well. When we don’t move the ball, we don’t score. When we don’t move the ball, our defense gets tired and we end up giving up points at the end of the game.
All sorts of correlations between our scoring points and winning games.
rufio - November 1, 2010
The more I think about it, the less disappointed I will be if Seneca starts next week. I’d still really like to see what we have in Colt, but I’m pretty sure Holmgren can make that decision on his own. In either case, the coaches need to decide who gives us the best chance to win and stick with them. The starter should be getting all the first team reps, no competitions.
Now, if Jake starts, I’m not sure how I’ll feel.
Why does this happen every year?
StuckInPa - November 1, 2010
I apologize for my multi-post rants, but when I’m in Browns-mode a lot of thoughts come to my head, and none of these posts would make sense together.
StuckInPa - November 1, 2010
I’ll be fine with Jake or Colt. I really see no benefit to playing Wallace.
golanbatrac - November 1, 2010
I saw Seneca put us in position to win, only to have our lead slip away. The last healthy throw I saw Jake make was an awful INT, a horrible decision that was reminiscent of last year.
StuckInPa - November 1, 2010
I read that Rogers was in at DE for Robaire Smith last week. Is this true? I know he had quite a bit of pressure on Brees.
StuckInPa - November 1, 2010
The plays I saw where he was generating pressure came from the nose.
Roger Dorn - November 1, 2010
I wouldn’t be surprised if this were true. Rogers has enough quickness to play DE for us when he is healthy and Robaire is out. He and Rubin are definitely two of our best DL, why not play both of them at the same time?
rufio - November 1, 2010
Rogers had easily his best game against the Saints this year. Hoping it means he is in shape.
Roger Dorn - November 1, 2010
I believe he’s actually been practicing. The bye certainly had to help.
StuckInPa - November 1, 2010
Hoping it means he’s close to 100%.
rufio - November 2, 2010
All I can say is that I really enjoyed watching that Steelers game last night. It was a thing of beauty.
Brownsyup - November 1, 2010
’AINTS!!!
JulioBernazard - November 1, 2010
sign Moss
Chucky Brown - November 1, 2010
Agree. He talks too much, is selfish, and is a pain in the ass, but we need a threat at WR
