When Braylon Edwards left the Cleveland Browns, guess what happened? Our record improved to 5-7 through the rest of the season. Meanwhile, the New York Jets plummeted, and just barely made the playoffs as a result of getting one of the luckiest schedule breaks in modern NFL history, with the Indianapolis Colts and the Cincinnati Bengals, two division leaders, handing them victories in the final two weeks by resting players.
With Edwards in the playoffs though, it's all about him and why he is right. Because everything is right about a receiver who has had worse drops with the Jets than he did with the Browns. In an interview on Yahoo Sports today with Jason Cole, Edwards couldn't help but trash his former team though, rather than focusing on his playoff match against the Cincinnati Bengals this weekend.
It didn’t help matters that Edwards, who became plagued with a serious case of dropped balls, had no strong desire to play in Cleveland from the start.
"I wasn’t into being there. It was a situation where, what am I supposed to do?" the Detroit native and University of Michigan alum asked rhetorically. "What am I supposed to say? ‘Damn, I got drafted here and I don’t want to play here’? It was a situation where you play the [political] game. Nobody says they don’t want to get drafted somewhere, in a situation like that. Bernie Kosar was the only one."
Edwards’ assessment of the Browns quarterback situation is even bleaker. Asked if anyone could succeed at that spot in Cleveland, he said: "No, not at all. Brady Quinn and I are real good friends and I wish the best for him. But no."

It probably was nothing but if it was a legitimate concussion, I wouldn’t have played either. Brain injuries aren’t something to play around with. Concussions aren’t a “oh, it’s just a headache, I’m fine to play” injury anymore. Merill Hodge(sp?) died of a concussion.

Just to set the record straight I personally never cared for Edwards from the start. Even when he was at Michigan. He can trash us all he wants but down deep he knows at best he is only a back up receiver and just watch and see what type of contract he receives from the Jets come signing time. I also appreciate the fact that Mr. Edwards is public enemy #1 here — I’d probably feel the same way were I a Browns fan. Say what you will about the Colts game, (although Manning and the rest of the starters played the vast majority of the game and left leading only 15-10), but the Bengals handed the Jets nothing. They played their starters as well, and left only after getting completely crushed by 20+ points.
Sorry, I know this wasn’t the point of the thread, and I realize I’m trolling … but I’m sure Browns fans can appreciate a fellow … shall we say, non-Super Bowl contender … coming to the defense of his team. The Jets are for real, and by the time many of you read this, they will have advanced to the second round of the playoffs.

Although, I disagree with you that the Jets will make it past the first round. Personally, I just think that the Bengal’s a much more well rounded team (when actually trying 100%). Do you really believe that they were last Sunday? I think it was brilliant of them to bring out their starters… only to have them lay down, and give the (at that point it was certain) team they’ll rematch in the playoffs a very false sense of security. BUT, that is just my opinion, I could be very wrong. I think either the Cincinnati wins in big, or Jets win a close one.
For the record, I think most of us here, don’t hate the Jets, we just hate Braylon Edwards, who currently wares gang green. I’m surprised my more New Yorkers don’t hate the guy already, I’ve always heard you have a very short patience with players when it came to sports. A word to the wise, from someone who’s been there, we’ve tried to support the guy, help get back to 2007, it just wasn’t happening. He’s still got the personality and attitude of a 12 year old. Buyer beware, he’s going to drop the big ones for you. Its not a matter of IF, it is a matter of WHEN.

thank you for posting your opinion in a level-headed and logical manner, we always like to have good conversations with other teams’ fans.
that said, i think you have a very hard argument that the colts lose that game if the starters stay in. I mean the go-ahead score was from a fumble by the backup quarterback, and a pretty embarrassing fumble at that. In the Bengals game, Benson didn’t play, Chad Johnson was injured, and i think it was pretty obvious to everyone they weren’t trying.
For the record, I don’t think you can definitively say the jets would have lost either game, but those games were gift-wrapped. Deep down you would be pissed if something like this kept your team out of the playoffs, because its not fair. That said, I don’t think any of the other teams really deserved the playoff spot more than the jets, i just don’t think the jets deserve it any more than the broncos, steelers, texans, etc.

lose if Manning and co. play to the end. On the other hand, it felt as if some thought the score was 42-0 Colts when they came out, only to have the waterboys take over after that.

I think the biggest issue here is certainly not the jets…but more how the sportswriter seemed to insinuate somehow that “poor maligned Braylon leaves a bad situation and finds redemption with a playoff team.” That’s the infuriating part because all he ever got around here was support, even after all his little outbursts and lack of production…and all he ever did was blame the fans, the city, the team…etc., and now that it’s said and done he still refuses to take any responsibility and continues to take needless cheap shots.

What do you think it is (personality aside)?
Is it concentration? It seems like the “easier” the catch, the tougher it is for him to make it.
After his monster season with you guys, that’s when he really began to have trouble, correct? What’s the general consensus on his drops? (Again, besides the fact he won’t take any responsibility)

Even the year he had that was good he was still #1 in drop’s.Just think he can’t catch the football.Nothing will change that some have the ablity to hang on and others do not.Edwards issues is deap and not sure anyone can fix it.Reminds me of the issue Steve Sax had in baseball throwing the ball to 1st base some things get deap in your head and nothing can change it.

It seems (though who knows if it is) that on the tough catches he recognizes that it’s gonna be tough and is focused on getting the ball. On the easy ones maybe he’s already thinking about what he’s gonna do after the catch (visions of whatever dancing through his head) and forgets about that all important first step.

I think if there were an easy fix, it would have been applied by now. I tend to think it’s mental as well, because it’s hard to explain why the harder catches come to him with less effort than the easy ones unless it’s somehow psychological….

I don’t know if I’d agree that it would be fixed if it were an easy fix. Cause he’s gotta do it himself, no one can do it for him. And why would he feel the need to do anything? It’s DA, BQ, Mark Sanchez, his gloves, the media, the fact that he’s a Michigan grad in Ohio, Mangini, and LeBron’s fault that he isn’t catching anything. Not his fault… So why would he need to even try anything to fix it?

Good point. Even an easy fix has to get past Braylon’s egotistical attitude first, which I’m sure will be a huge (perhaps insurmountable) obstacle.

You can’t “personality aside” this, because his personality is a part of it.
Part of it is definitely the mental thing, as Bernie said.
But I think he really needs to train himself out of the drops, and I don’t think he likes to work hard enough and I don’t think he wants to humble himself enough to do what needs to be done. There is no physical reason he can’t be hauling those balls in.
At this point there is so much muscle memory of him dropping balls that he will need to not only reverse that trend in practice, but completely overhaul it by recording a ridiculous amount of good reps.
Sports psychology tells us that a “winning” attitude is believing that losses/lack of success can be avoided by giving more effort, and accepts responsibility for their failure. It also tells us a “losing” attitude blames losses/lack of success on things outside of their control (makes excuses).
By doing things like blaming it on the gloves, Braylon’s supposed arrogance is effectually closer to an athlete who lacks confidence: neither sees success as a result of giving more effort, and neither is willing to give the effort.

I’m starting to believe that Braylon is dropping so many balls because he doesn’t care. What happens when he drops a pass? Nothing, he gets a pat and lines back up to drop some more.

very true. it is not as much i think lack of confidence but he loses focus and is too arrogant to admit it so he blames it on anything and everything around him…also blaming others is a sign of irresponsibility (which he showed when he was here)
