According to the Akron Beacon Journal, the Cleveland Browns have signed first-round draft choice Alex Mack to a five-year deal.

Pro Football Talk is also reporting that the deal is done, but that a delay was caused due to the Browns having a new contract negotiator. They are reporting that the deal includes $12.2 in guaranteed money. Assuming the deal stands, Mack would be the third first-round pick to have signed from April's draft. The Browns still need to reach contracts with WR Brian Robiskie, WR Mohamed Massaquoi, and LB David Veikune.

I hope the contract says guard.

This comment actually does not make one ounce of sense even in a joking manner

Great! Now he can get to work on becoming our starting center.

On a side note. I´m most happy with the Maiava signing. I always thought a guy like Lofa Tutupu (middle linebacker for the Seahawks), would do much better in a 3-4, and out comes Kalooka Bazooka, another hard headed Polynesian from USC. I don´t know if he´ll start, but I feel a lot safer with him in the depth chart.
Of the whole draft batch, it´s him and Mogwai Massacre (Massaquoi) that I like the most, he looks like an old school wide out, lets hope he has the mind and willpower to become a student of the game.

Kalooka Bazooka? Mogwai Massacre? I would be interested if you would give nicknames to all 53 men.

I love his names for our players.

53 nicknames, that would cause a stir. I´ll think about it.

Mack Signs
I agreed we’ve needed a center for a couple of years. Frayley has been unable to find a treadmill or avoid a buffet his entire career. However, there were three good centers in this year’s draft. When we finally picked in the first round all three were available with our first pick in the second coming up in a few picks. Why we didn’t take Beanie Wells with that first round pick, I’ll never know. We would have had our pick of the three centers with that second round pick. The worst part is we turn around and not take the better of the three in Unger from Oregon. This was far worse than the year I was miffed with Braylon Edwards over Shawn Merriman.

Maybe if you listened to “draft experts”. Not if you watched them play. Unger was clearly not as good as Mack on film.
Two of those centers were gone by then, so its pretty safe to assume that at least one of them would have been gone by our 2nd pick.

Unger is a small kid who fits a zone blocking scheme. Where’d he go? Seattle…a zone blocking team. He was never a legitimate option for the Browns.
gahnki - July 27, 2009
Unger is like, 4 pounds lighter and 1 inch taller than Mack!
The Licensed Pessimist - July 27, 2009
Alex Mack is nasty. I got really pumped watching his highlights again. That kid doesn’t play to the whistle, he plays through the whistle.
If he can hold on to that nastiness while refining his technique our whole offense will look better. It is very hard to be nasty within good technique, but Mack already has the hard part down.

I trust Mangini on center evaluation. He hit on Mangold
