Joshua Cribbs and Steve Heiden to be Ready for the Start of Training Camp

Cleveland Browns KR Joshua Cribbs indicated that he will be in attendance for when veterans report to training camp July 31. Cribbs made the indication when he was interviewed on WKNR recently:

"No. 16 will be on the field, proudly."

...

"I'm going to still play as hard as I can," he said. "I don't know any other way to play. I don't want to go anywhere else, I want to stay in Cleveland. I'm going to do everything I can physically and business-wise to stay in Cleveland because this is where I want to be. If something else happens, I don't think it's on me.

"I can't make every person understand my point of view and a lot of fans just don't understand the nature of football and the contract situations and everything. I'm just going to keep playing and I don't mind any fan express any point of view to me and I will respectfully converse with them. I want to see us win big and be a part of that when it happens. Hopefully that happens this year and I'm on that team."

Jason La Canfora of NFL.com reported that Cribbs' representatives were scheduled to talk with the Browns today in an effort to set up a full face-to-face meeting. Jason states that Cribbs isn't looking for a huge contract upgrade, but wants it to be recognized that he is "out-performing his contract".

Another person who should be in training camp is TE Steve Heiden, who tore his ACL and MCL last season. Pro Football Weekly's Mike Wilkening reported the following on Saturday:

[Heiden] expects to be cleared to practice when Browns veterans take the field on July 31, his agent, Jack Wirth, recently told PFW. "He’s made great progress," Wirth said, noting that Heiden has told him the only limitation he could have in training camp is that he might be limited to one practice a day.

That is very encouraging, especially since I'm not overly thrilled about Robert Royal being our featured tight end. Although some believe Royal has the starting role already, I wouldn't bank on that just yet.

If Heiden is 100% healthy with 100% of his speed back by the time the regular season starts, I’ll be shocked.

I really hope Cribbs is just asking for a modest raise and to be recognized and not for Devin Hester money. I don’t think he is worth Devin Hester money.

Just assuming, you don’t think Devin Hester is worth Devin Hester money either, right?

Not unless he starts catching a lot of balls at WR. Also for the record, I would rather have Cribbs over Hester as a pure ST player.

I go the impression from something that I read (somewhere) that he would be satisfied with getting some performance-based incentives written into his contract, which would be fine by me. If the guy makes n special teams tackles, he gets a bonus. If he catches x passes, he gets a bonus. If he scores z touchdowns, he gets a bonus. Nothing guaranteed, just a little recognition for when he does achieve those things.

Oh, and remember, Cabot is the only one who ever suggested/implied/started a libelous rumor that he wanted Hester money.

Joshua Cribbs is a novelty, it was nice while it lasted. He can play what you all call the Gunner, and for that to include his versatility to be able to do a decent job doing other things, his salary is adequate. 16 may be on the field, but don´t be so sure it´s him, because it takes a little more to reserve a jersey number, and handling the ball on the Browns is not taken for granted. Maybe other teams can join him in visualizing number 16 in other colors. He´s on the cusp of being special though, so he should be worth a few players in next years draft. If he´s the bandwagon, anyone else is welcome to join him, Browns products leave at a premium though.

I am starting to believe mooncamping is Romeo Crennel’s way of getting back at the Browns organization.

No, moon sounds way to smart to be Romeo.

Moon hasn’t revealed his secret special teams weapon whereby he sends a fullback to return punts.

Let’s find out.

Moon, your team is down by 21 points. There is 3 minutes left in the game. Do you go for it on 4th down, or kick a FG?

We only ever kick the ball, when we don´t want it.

May we have an example of when we don’t want the ball?

When you need the other team to score, so it doesn´t look like we´re cheating.

how could we be cheating

I couldn’t agree more. It’s important to not cheat. It’s also important to give people the impression that we don’t cheat because impressions can be as important as reality.

It will be interesting to see how Heiden performs with Rucker looking to raise some eyebrows and catch more passes with Winslow now gone.

C is for Classy...and Cribbs

The guy wants to stay here…did anyone else read that sentence? He wants to stay here! Kudos just for that fact, and he is not just a special teams guy. Cribbs is an elite special teams talent, on both sides of a kickoff. If we could get a solid O-Coordinator in here, he could abuse defenses with his speed as well. Here’s to a good OH guy who wants a decent paycheck.

Here’s to a good OH guy who wants a decent paycheck.

A "decent" paycheck?!? That’s quite the understatement. Josh Cribbs will be making more in one football game than most people do in one year. Please don’t make him out to be some kind of underpriviledged worker just trying to make ends meet. He’s trying to get paid as much as possible, which is certainly his right and I don’t blame him for it, but he’s not hurting for money.
