It's Day 1 of the NFL Draft, and for Cleveland Browns fans, this year's first day will be a lot more exciting than last year's. In 2008, Phil Savage's various trades led to the Browns not having a Day 1 pick. This year, we are what I would consider stacked with Day 1 picks:
Cleveland Browns Day 1 Picks:
- Round 1: No. 5 overall
- Round 2: No. 36 overall
- Round 2: No. 50 overall
The draft will begin promptly at 4:00pm EST, with the Detroit Lions on the clock. Hopefully they do not waste any time announcing their pick, since they have already signed QB Matthew Stafford to a deal. In essence, the draft should start with the St. Louis Rams on the clock at No. 2 overall.
Teams will have 10 minutes to select in Round 1 and 7 minutes to select in Round 2. By my estimates, that means the Browns should be on the clock for their first pick from about 4:35pm to 4:45pm. I will be providing live blog coverage up until the Browns' first round pick. After that, I may not be back until around 10:00pm unfortunately.
Dawgs By Nature LIVE BLOG of Day 1 of the 2009 NFL Draft:
- 1:05 PM: Early morning rumors are circulating over the Internet again that the Browns will select QB Mark Sanchez, and then trade QB Brady Quinn. I don't see it happening -- why would it make sense either?
- 1:10 PM: I always like reading what Scott Wright of NFLDraftCountdown has to say in his mock draft. They have the Browns going all defense on Day 1, with LB Aaron Curry at No. 5, LB Larry English at No. 36, and S William Moore at No. 50.
- 2:05 PM: Mocking Dan wonders why several popular draft "experts" have skyrocketed the projection of DE Tyson Jackson to No. 3 overall. I believe I also read a rumor yesterday that the Browns might be interested in him at that point. If we pick him at No. 5, it'd be a disappointment, considering I'd rather have Orakpo or Raji.
- 2:15 PM: JasonB, our Philadelphia Eagles blogger who is LIVE at the NFL Draft, has provided a photo of the area surrounding him today:
That's how close our guys are to the action! Besides Dawgs By Nature, be sure to visit Mocking the Draft, Mile High Report, and Bleeding Green Nation for what should be some amazing coverage related to the draft. Almost every NFL SB Nation website is also live-blogging the draft, so feel free to check out the entire network of site throughout the weekend.
- 2:20 PM: The comedy routine just keeps on getting funnier guys: Steve Wyche of NFL.com is reporting that the Browns and Giants have not discussed a deal involving WR Braylon Edwards for weeks. Wyche also reports that he is hearing that it would be a huge surprise if QB Brady Quinn gets dealt.
- 2:50 PM: A little over an hour away now! QB Matt Cassel received a 6-year contract today with $36 million guaranteed. That's what Belichick does for you, I guess.
- 2:52 PM: One of our sources at the draft overheard Yahoo's Jason Cole state that the Panthers aren't finding any interest in DE Julius Peppers.
- 3:09 PM: The good guys are now on Sirius Radio, as we're less than an hour away from the draft: Gil Brandt and Adam Schein in particular.
- 3:12 PM: Brandt believes that either WR Anquan Boldin or WR Braylon Edwards will be moved today.
- 3:17 PM: Turf Show Times is digging and believes the New York Jets and the Washington Redskins are both pushing hard to move up (probably for Sanchez).
- 3:21 PM: Sirius projects that DE Tyson Jackson or LB Aaron Curry will be the first defensive player off the board. It was stated that Curry could be there at No. 5 for Cleveland, but that Jackson could be a surprise first (defensive) pick at No. 3. Not such a surprise though if it's being talked about ahead of time, eh?
- 3:39 PM: Mocking Dan reports via a source that the Browns are not involved in any trade talk.
- 3:43 PM: To update on the previous statement, Dan states that this means "[no trades] in general. No trade talk at all." In other words, not only is there nothing about the No. 5 overall pick, but there is nothing about Edwards or Quinn either. That could change in a heart beat when Cleveland is on the clock though, I'd imagine.
- 3:46 PM: It just irks me when the fans live at the draft do nothing but BOO whenever a pick gets made. Seriously -- what the hell is the point of booing?
- 3:47 PM: Deion Sanders is introducing some of the top prospects right now.
- 3:54 PM: Pat Kirwan and Gil Brandt believe Braylon Edwards will be traded. No real concrete sources behind that; just their opinions. According to JasonB, some press guys are now speculating that the Rams could take Sanchez.
- 3:55 PM: New Open Thread over at Mocking the Draft.
- 4:00 PM: From our SB Nation sources: "Just got a tip that the Eagles may have turned their attention from Boldin to Braylon Edwards…"
- 4:05 PM: QB Matthew Stafford officially picked by the Lions, as the draft is underway! The St. Louis Rams are now on the clock.
Picture of the teams' draft tables above.
- 4:15 PM: The Rams pick is in, and here comes the announcement: it's Jason Smith, indeed. The Chiefs are now on the clock at No. 3. They are a candidate to select Curry, but Jackson has been rumored to them as well.
- 4:20 PM: The latest crazy rumor from our Eagles blogger: "Hearing some crazy rumors about the Eagles sending #21 and Shawn Andrews to Cleveland for the Browns #5 overall and Braylon Edwards. Seems very farfetched to me."
- 4:25 PM: DE Tyson Jackson is picked by the Chiefs. I have no idea how his stock rose so quickly, but credit to Kiper and company for making that projection correctly at the last second I guess. Curry is now that close folks -- only the Seahawks are ahead of us.
- 4:34 PM: What a bummer, as the Seahawks do indeed take LB Aaron Curry. The Cleveland Browns are now on the clock.
- 4:41 PM: BREAKING NEWS: The Browns have traded the No. 5 overall pick to the New York Jets! Waiting for reports on the full deal.
- 4:43 PM: With the pick, the Jets take QB Mark Sanchez. Funny how Eric Mangini ends up doing a deal with his former team.
- 5:10 PM: Officially, "Cleveland traded its first-round selection (5th overall, used to select Mark Sanchez) to the New York Jets for their first- and second-round selections (17th and 52nd overall, respectively), Kenyon Coleman, Brett Ratliff, and Abram Elam."
- 5:12 PM: Can't believe the Raiders passed up on WR Michael Crabtree earlier for WR Darrius Heyward-Bay. Now the question will be this: could Crabtree, Orakpo, or Raji be on the board when we pick at No. 17?
- 5:15 PM: Won't be Raji, as he just went to the Packers.
- 5:25 PM: WR Michael Crabtree goes to the 49ers. I'll unfortunately have to leave in a few minutes, but rufio should be here to keep the posting (but probably not the live-blogging) active the rest of the day until I get back.
- 5:26 PM: I guess you know it's hot when a huge wasp suddenly flies by your window as you are typing.
- 5:27 PM: GO BROWNS!!!
This is also an open thread for ALL of today's action! Please try to refrain from creating individual threads that state what you specifically think about a pick -- that's what this post and any subsequent posts that I or rufio make are for. With that said, if a late-breaking trade appears while I'm gone, feel free to make a FanPost about it until either rufio or myself have the chance to make a front page post about it.
That mock draft seems pretty dumb. We dont need two OLBs. Plus we have some needs on offense
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
I actually would like two LB’s, we are very weak at the position. Curry is considered to be versatile and able to play ILB and OLB
Roger Dorn - April 25, 2009
I want Curry at #5, otherwise trade down. 2 OLBs and a SS sounds great
jerseywahoo - April 25, 2009
If we get Curry, I will do a little jig
Roger Dorn - April 25, 2009
seconded
APV - April 25, 2009
I might do a little something more than a jig, but I won’t go into details… :-X
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
does he play outside for us?
kwoog - April 25, 2009
I would probably play him inside if I were coaching. You never know though; he looks good going forward, so he could play outside too and maybe rush the passer.
Eventually, I would move him around in different packages, too.
rufio - April 25, 2009
All this talk of picking Sanchez and trading Quinn, I haven’t heard much about the financial ramifications. If Sanchez is getting a Matt Ryan type contract, that’s gotta be a lot more than Quinn, who was a 20-something pick with a contract based mostly on incentives alone. Isn’t this a huge factor, the difference in money?
kwoog - April 25, 2009
Definitely. Especially after seeing Stafford’s contract. For the life of me, I just see ZERO upside to taking Sanchez and then dumping Quinn.
I guess the only reason to take Sanchez is if we use him as bait and trade him during the first round. But…that really seems like us going out of the way for much more trouble than it’d be worth.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
The draft is a little over a half hour away…are we going to get some more commenters in here then? :-)
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
Unfortunately my TV set is away from my computer, but I will be stopping by periodically
Roger Dorn - April 25, 2009
However, I have a sneaking suspicion that if Edwards or Quinn is traded, this board will explode with comments
Roger Dorn - April 25, 2009
Heh, indeed. I’m at my computer with Sirius radio on; don’t have ESPN or NFL Network.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
I can see my bigscreen from my computer so im in good shape. OH YEAH
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
I would be ecstatic with Curry. I’d be ok with Crabtree. I could swallow Orapko. I would roll my eyes at Raji. I would puke and cry at Sanchez.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
That could be interpreted as you liking Orakpo the most.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
haha… I like to be ambiguous.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
Ten minutes away from the draft, and [presumably] about 45 minutes away until the Browns are on the clock!
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
You know what’s weird? How we develop rooting interests for certain players to be drafted, despite having never seen them play or, often not even knowing they existed until the last few months, not to mention that we know that the firstround is full of flameouts and disappointments. I remember reading the SI writeup of Tommy Vardell when he was coming out of Stanford and just hoping and hoping that he’d be the Browns’ pick. When they drafted him I was ecstatic. So it goes.
Now Terry Pluto has me rooting for Curry (what a great guy!) and some receiver from UNC (Hakeem something) and I will be thrilled if we get them, and crushed if we don’t …
That said, maybe this draft changes everything. Get some help in the secondary on the D-line!
macasson - April 25, 2009
eh, depends on how much college ball you watch, i guess.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
yeah, you’re right here – many of the players are strangers to me. i follow the buckeyes and the pac-10, that’s about it. those usc linebackers are tough, i’ll tell you that.
macasson - April 25, 2009
Are you guys going to be watching on ESPN or the NFL Network?
TonyH - April 25, 2009
espn. Mel Kiper.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
espn
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Here comes Roger Goodell.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
My gut reaction on Stafford: blah.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
he looks like a dork
Locnar - April 25, 2009
so do pennington and garcia
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Not only do i feel pity for the Lions, but now I have some hatred towards them for agreing to that huge deal. They have now screwed the rest of the Top 10 to fork out extra money because of that ridiculous $41.7M guaranteed.
talonk - April 25, 2009
Did you gusy see the signed Jurevicious Browns jersey in the intro when they showed Sanchez …… hope that isn’t a sign.
talonk - April 25, 2009
Jason Smith is who they are talking about to the Rams right now.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
makes sense.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
Their pick should be “in” in a minute or two.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
yep it was smith
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
not a big shock with this one
talonk - April 25, 2009
But the KC pick … it now gets more interesting
talonk - April 25, 2009
im holding my breath for the next 7 minutes
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
I’m holding mine for the next 27
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
shall we call the paramedics then? you could be dead and not know it …
talonk - April 25, 2009
Big pick for us here. KC could determine a lot of what happens next.
rufio - April 25, 2009
thats an understatement
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
just 1 minute left
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Just wanna say im so glad i found this blog because its a lot of fun having a conversation with people who know what they are talking about. I hope you all are glad i found this site too
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
welcome. I haven’t been around too much in the offseason, but this site is pretty great.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
ive been here for a few months now actually
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Cool. Like I said, I haven’t been around too much since the end of the season. I need a NFL break after the SuperBowl. And I needed a Browns break after the ManKok hiring fiasco.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
JasonB (our Eagles blogger at the draft) is hearing more crazy rumors:
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
I’ve heard that exact rumor this past week from WKNR. I just don’t get it.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
WOw.. makes things interest
WOw.. makes things interest
Locnar - April 25, 2009
Good lord please no. We’d need some picks with that, too.
rufio - April 25, 2009
I think we get the shaft in that deal …. big time
talonk - April 25, 2009
I dont buy it. Mangini is smarter than that
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
I’ll just assume this is a nonsense rumor.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
If we got an extra pick I would be all for that.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Two minutes left for the Chiefs to pick.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
So if we pass on Raji and the Bengals take him, that means every AFC North team would have a dominant NT.
talonk - April 25, 2009
It’d be the Bengals luck that Raji would be a complete bust.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
that would be our hope
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
I have a comp for Raji- Gerard Warren.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
Someone convince me I’m wrong. Please.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
I have the same thought. Raji was fired from a KMart for not working hard enough. KMart. I’m sure Mangini loved hearing that.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Heh…I thought about saying that, but don’t know enough about Raji to fairly say that.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
The Chiefs pick is in…Sirius guys are predicting Jackson, as stated earlier.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
YES
rufio - April 25, 2009
that it is ….. swesome for us
talonk - April 25, 2009
YEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! AARON CURRY HERE WE COME!
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Seattle will take Crabtree or Monroe for sure?
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
or Sanchez.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
Nothing for sure today.
rufio - April 25, 2009
best quote of the day
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Chiefs pick Tyson Jackson.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
Come on Seattle, you know you want a QB or LT! Or Raji.
rufio - April 25, 2009
or Crabtree too
talonk - April 25, 2009
AARON CURY! YOU all should see the smile on my face right now!
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Well it looks like we are going to have our choice of the guys we all like
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
2 of them for sure. The draft won’t be made or broken with this pick, though. Those 2nd rounders will be huge.
rufio - April 25, 2009
I can’t celebrate like you guys are doing yet…heading into the day, I feared Seattle had a better chance of taking Curry than KC.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
This is still the best possible situation we could ask for right now, though. One of Curry or Cratbree will be there for sure. Monroe, Sanchez, Raji, Orakpo also available. Lots of trade opportunities.
rufio - April 25, 2009
But I agree that Curry isn’t a lock.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Sanchez-for trading down
Curry and Crab – cuz they are beast
at least two of them will be there
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
berman just said seahawks will take curry fo sho
VABrownsFan - April 25, 2009
Micheal Smith just told me that the Browns are switching to a 3-4 under Mangini. Awesome.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
I caught that too. I muted him and turned the floor over to Woody Paige.
rufio - April 25, 2009
3 minutes…
rufio - April 25, 2009
Michael Smith just said we were switching to a 3-4 under Mangini … duh, we had a 3-4 under Crennel as well
talonk - April 25, 2009
Come on Sirius, get back from commercial already…
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
If you can’t strike a deal now, take Sanchez and strike the deal later. There are plenty of teams that want him
dvd1204 - April 25, 2009
Seattle’s pick is in…Sirius projects an “impact player”. They are unsure of who it’ll be…they speculate Crabtree.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
Damnit

Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009

VABrownsFan - April 25, 2009
mark sanchez here we come….
VABrownsFan - April 25, 2009
We take Sanchez
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Please no. I really hope all that QB nonsense was just smoke.
Can we just have a settled QB situation one of these years, even if the guy isn’t great?
rufio - April 25, 2009
I want the Browns to draft Sanchez, but we better not leave NY with him.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
ok
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Fair.
rufio - April 25, 2009
GEt THE **** OUT OF THAT PICK!!
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Phones should be ringing off the hook right now.
rufio - April 25, 2009
BOOOOOOO
talonk - April 25, 2009
We should take Sanchez and let the offers roll in. The Browns could take control of the top of the first half of this draft.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
I totally agree with this. Take the trade chip (Sanchez) and cash it in later
dvd1204 - April 25, 2009
I hope we hear “a trade has been made” in the next few minutes.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
I can get behind this…
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Seattle’s LB corps could be sick nasty. They certainly will have a lot of money in it. A franchise-tagged LB, Tatupu, and the 4th overall pick? $$$$$
rufio - April 25, 2009
at least we get some erin andrews viewage today
talonk - April 25, 2009
NFL Network says something is brewing.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
trade-wise.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
though they may be blowing smoke.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
so, how confident are we that the browns won’t screw this up? please don’t screw this up!
macasson - April 25, 2009
Kinda hard to screw it up, at least from where we are today. Maybe the pick busts, but we don’t know that for a year or two at least.
rufio - April 25, 2009
ESPN listed Andra Davis as a “key departure”.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Awesome.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Just no Raji. Please, God, no Raji.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009

Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
Well Mangini sure is using that jets connection to its fullest
talonk - April 25, 2009
Yeah, I wonder how many people are whining about signing former Jets right now.
rufio - April 25, 2009
WTF DID WE GET!?
rufio - April 25, 2009

Dan Kadar - April 25, 2009
Heh, it’s okay ;)
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
Maybe we just got a deal we couldn’t refuse? What did your source say?
rufio - April 25, 2009
He was saying the Browns were involved in no trades at all. Ah well. Gotta love the draft.
Dan Kadar - April 25, 2009
watch espn
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Don’t the deadlines motivate everything today?
rufio - April 25, 2009
No report on what we got yet, but so everyone knows, the Jets did have the 17th overall pick.
Sanchez selected by the Jets.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
you have to think washington was involved too and they were at 13 i think…has to be a decent haul
dvd1204 - April 25, 2009
Why do you have to think that?
rufio - April 25, 2009
because you HAVE to
…or else

Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009

Beanie, Jenkins….Best available player baby!
rufio - April 25, 2009
Gary Horton on espn.com sez “I’m guessing the Jets gave up a lot”
exposition - April 25, 2009

rufio - April 25, 2009
Wow great deal for the Browns!
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Got a back-up QB, D-lineman depth, and a safety that we signed plus two picks! Great trade!
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
DEAL:
JETS GET- #5
Browns GET- #17, Jets 2nd, Colemen, Ratliff, Elam.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009

Me too! I think Mangini sees him as a starter.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009

macasson - April 25, 2009
Kenyon Colvin, Brett Ratliff, Abram Elam, 1st round pick, 2nd round pick in 2009 is what we got I think?
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
How are those other Jets?
rufio - April 25, 2009
Hells yeah, we swindled!
Zorgon - April 25, 2009
im concerned were not going to have enough quarterbacks this year
troy145 - April 25, 2009
am guessing we won’t be looking at Freeman later …. I hope they still consider Pat White to be another slash type tho
talonk - April 25, 2009
I’m breaking from my live blog briefly to write a short post on the trade guys. Continue discussing here!
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
Here is a quick scouting report on Coleman;
Comment: Coleman is a six-year veteran who has great size, durability and strength with above-average athletic ability. He is powerful to hold the point versus the run and shows natural strength to split double teams. He tends to catch too often, but has improved his hand use to extend and lock out on blockers. He is best between the tackles because he doesn’t appear to have great range in pursuit. He is limited with his pass-rush moves and counters. Coleman tends to rush down the middle of his opponent too often and needs to expand his hand use and pass-rush package. He appears to have improved his reactions as plays unfold. He feels pad pressure well and constricts running lanes. He shows decent initial pop to stymie blockers at the line of scrimmage and has a powerful lower body to flash decent bull rush. Coleman was a career backup before landing in New York and performed well enough to solidify his starting position. He is best aligned as a five—technique rather than inside over the guard in even fronts.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
no link, but some analysts think that 2nd round picks are better value. this is a win-win for the brownies. how about that!
macasson - April 25, 2009
is getting ratcliff a clue we are trading away anderson
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
I think it is trade insurance.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Hey guys, just showed up from the OSU Spring Game. Glad to see we traded down, sounds like we got a good deal. Hopefully getting Ratliff means we’re trading DA. There should be a lot of good players available at 17, and now we have 3 second round picks.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
By the way, Pryor looked awesome today. He made a few really nice throws including 2 long TD passes. He’s gained about 7-8 pounds of muscle this winter. I’m so looking forward to watching him play this fall.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Word. I watched online and was very impressed. Especially using the slants/posts down the middle of the field.
rufio - April 25, 2009
OL needs work.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Yall better beet the wolverines. I might root for u all in that game
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
i got to Troy
we would have beat yall if Pryor wasnt such a freak
hes a genuine stud, yall are nasty with him
troy145 - April 25, 2009
I don’t think it will be a problem. Not this fall, but next fall, michigan will challenge again, I think.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Yeah, it will take a couple years. Their roster is so depleted.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
ND and OSU share our hatred of michigan
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Yeah, but a couple our our best guys didn’t play. Saine had some nice runs — I’d love for him stay healthy and see what he can do.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
He’s been tearing it up all spring. He is finally healthy as you note. Him and Boom should be RB by committee. It will be interesting to see if J. Berry gets any PT, and if Jackson or the other Frosh WRs can make some plays. WR = deep. If the OTs can hold down DEs and recognize the stunts/slants our O will be fine. I want to see Sabino completely take the MLB role.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Yeah, we have a lot of talented WR, we just need a couple to step up. I think Posey can be that guy.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
LeBron in cleats.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Yeah, it’s crazy seeing him on the field — he’s just so big. He’s taller than the lineman.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Now we filled the safety need, backup QB need, and we got a DE( but i wouldnt mind gilbert or marks in the second
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Bengals
Now they have another guy that has a good chance to flop
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Just a side discussion, if Chris Wells is there at 17, anyone else warming up to that idea? I would be happy with Beanie at 17 and then get a C, and two defensive players in the second.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
I’d rather have a LB. Rashad Jennings in the 2nd all day.
rufio - April 25, 2009
I wouldn’t be horrified
danvail - April 25, 2009
I’d actually love that. He will be a fantastic NFL back if he stays healthy.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
If we can move DA for a 2nd rounder, this will be an unreal draft.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Who needs a QB? Tampa?
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Yes, please.
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
yes that would be ridiculus
and not completely unreasonable
troy145 - April 25, 2009
this would be great and you’d think that one of DA or Braylon gets traded. Might have to wait until the Philly and NYGiants picks to find out.
macasson - April 25, 2009
Not advocating it, but can you imagine if we were to deal edwards for NYG 1 and ? and Hixon…talk about starting over. Our team would be ridiculously young with all the picks we acquired
dvd1204 - April 25, 2009
I’d like to keep Edwards, but for the right deal, he can be moved imo (and discussed at length here)
dvd1204 - April 25, 2009
I am advocating it…
Ryan Kelsey - April 25, 2009
No first rounder or Kiwi, no BE. Simple as that.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
So now we got 90 minutes to wait for our pick …. sure hope the BE and DA phones are on fire for those 90 minutes.
talonk - April 25, 2009
WOW!
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
dont think anybody saw that coming
troy145 - April 25, 2009
Are you determined to post 100% sarcasm today?
rufio - April 25, 2009
did you see it coming?
troy145 - April 25, 2009
stop with the subject lines please
talonk - April 25, 2009
now i remember why i dont post here more.
you guys are incredible
troy145 - April 25, 2009
but you must have seen that coming, right? ;)
talonk - April 25, 2009
right :D
troy145 - April 25, 2009
Is it really that hard to not use the subject line? It’s annoying and distracting.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
no, but its just the way you guys ask.
I post very regularly at several SBnation blogs and this is the only one I post at that doesnt use subject lines. Ive had no problems anywhere but here, or else I would think it was me.
troy145 - April 25, 2009
Is it really that bad for a one-liner?
rufio - April 25, 2009
who cares
peace and love and football
troy145 - April 25, 2009
I was asking Brad. I don’t find it that egregious for a one-liner.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Not really, I guess. But I didn’t say anything about his comment, I was just responding why we don’t use subject lines.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Yeah I messed up. I was asking talonk.
I am going to quit while I am behind here.
rufio - April 25, 2009
no probs, was just trying to ease Buckeye Brad’s burden of policing the site …. my apologies troy
talonk - April 25, 2009
4.3 40 + Al Davis = draft pick.
rufio - April 25, 2009
hhahahahahaha
rufio - April 25, 2009
Al Davis=stupid
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
crab might be there at 17
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
zzz
holy cow…..raiders take heyward bey?
Nat - April 25, 2009
wtf what if maclin gets picked next and we still get crabtree?
troy145 - April 25, 2009
we gotta get crabtree….
wendigo - April 25, 2009
or hakeem nicks in round 2
wendigo - April 25, 2009
i would settle for Britt in round2
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
i would easily take nicks over britt.
wendigo - April 25, 2009
I think britt can be a #1 receiver on some team. Dont get me wrong, i like nicks a lot, i just prefer kenny britt
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
And the Raiders pull another shocker (sort of) …
Al Davis falls in love with those fast WR/CBs
talonk - April 25, 2009
I can’t believe they took him over Maclin and Crabtree. That’s so stupid. He’s going to be another bust.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
i no
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
This is why the Raiders pick in the top ten every year.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
+1
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
This is awesome.
kwoog - April 25, 2009
I love this day!
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Man, someone tell me about the players we got. DL, supposed starter, and a young qb (goodbye DA?), and a safety? Is the S good?
kwoog - April 25, 2009
we tried to sign him but the jets signed him on the last day becuase he was an RFA. Remember him now?
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Ah, thanks man.
kwoog - April 25, 2009
Supposedly an above average athlete, but plays best “in the box” or coming forward. 6’ish, 205ish, good compliment to Pool, more potential than Adams, just from the ESPN scouting rept.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Many thanks, Rufio.
kwoog - April 25, 2009
No doubt.
He is also from Kent St. if you care about that sort of thing.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Ha, I do not. Coleman’s 30. Abram’s 27. We gave up a future #1 for Quinn to move up. Anybody think we maybe took a little less just to get out of the spot? (which I wouldn’t really mind at all)
kwoog - April 25, 2009
I think we got depth in needed areas and added a second rounder. I love it.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Plus we may even get a guy we still really liked at 5, and pay him a lot less.
talonk - April 25, 2009
yea orakpo will probably be there.
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
8. Jags Monroe
9. Pack Raji
10. 49ers Orakpo
How low does Crabtree have to get before we jump back up?
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Would the Niners take him? I’ll bet the Redskins would at 13.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
They might. The 9ers blog thinks he is the next big bust.
They also need a pass rusher bad.
rufio - April 25, 2009
nice call
maybe Crabtree is this year’s Quinn
troy145 - April 25, 2009
not sure i’d even take him at 17, if the diva rumors are accurate
macasson - April 25, 2009
If he is there at 17 I may poop my pants.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Those are just rumors, you can’t trust that. Crabtree will be a STUD. I want him!!
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Yeah, they are just rumors, yet he’s dropping.
Yes, he was an amazing college wideout, but we can’t be sure he’ll be a stud in the NFL: First round WR’s are as likely to flop as they are to succeed, just ask the Lions.
macasson - April 25, 2009
what pick did the vikes us for randy moss? 20’s? could happen again.
macasson - April 25, 2009
Any chance we can get maybin
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Monroe has a strahan gap in his teeth
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Monroe it is
danvail - April 25, 2009
anyone think if we dont trade up that we might take Chris Wells at 17?
wendigo - April 25, 2009
I can dig this.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Am betting we take a LB at 17
talonk - April 25, 2009
So far I give this draft an A+++
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
i love the unpredictability thus far
macasson - April 25, 2009
Raji to the packers
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Raji is going to the Packers
talonk - April 25, 2009
great call for them: NT for that new 3-4.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Damn BJ Raji sweats alot
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
hes a big dude
wendigo - April 25, 2009
must be how the OL can’t hold on to him, his sweat is the new anti-stickum
talonk - April 25, 2009
i noticed that as well
that dude was rubbing his head so much i was like “thats frickin disgusting that dude needs a moist toilette.”
troy145 - April 25, 2009
Maualuga, Maybin, Beanie, Jenkins, Brown, Cushing, Matthews, Crabtree…any of them left would be fine with me.
Outside the top 15 is the best place to be in this draft.
rufio - April 25, 2009
So true. This is kind of like the 2005 Draft. Sooo deep, and most of the stars were outside of the top 10.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Woah, I just posted a similar analogy.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Great minds…
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Packers get Raji while we are stuck with their former product, Corey Williams.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
Ha!
Let him get a healthy year in. Hopefully we can get some one gapping in too, which i really think will help him out.
rufio - April 25, 2009
So, who are we getting at 17 — one of the USC LB’s, Jenkins, Maybin, Wells?
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Moreno?
rufio - April 25, 2009
I personally am not a fan of Moreno.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
I can’t believe we got that trade. Awesome job.
The top 10 of this draft looks questionable, much like the 2005 draft. Now we can just draft kids who fall in to our lap.
rufio - April 25, 2009
I hope not. Id much rather have wells over Moreno and I think Wells is a little overrated.
troy145 - April 25, 2009
And which Trojan LB do you like the best? Cushing seems the best to me but I’d be happy with Matthews. I’m not sure about Rey.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
I want Maualuga over the other two, if only because he compliments D’Qwell so much. Exactly the type of guy we need next to him. Hopefully we can make him play with just a little bit of technique, though.
Cushing seems like a more well rounded prospect, but wouldn’t compliment DQ as much. Is Matthews a great NFL pass rusher? I don’t know enough about him.
rufio - April 25, 2009
this this this!
kwoog - April 25, 2009
This tweet from Peter King intrigues me. Also, it’s just funny Peter King uses Twitter.
exposition - April 25, 2009
I’m one of the few SB Nation bloggers not using Twitter.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
f twitter
wendigo - April 25, 2009
On Colbert, the founder said they were going to get people started using it for free, and then start charging. Enough to make me not want to use it.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Geez, just trying to contribute. The usefulness of Twitter aside, King said"Brett Ratliff is no throw-in. Mangini likes him a lot."
exposition - April 25, 2009
No, thanks for the info, it’s just that there are always off topic discussions in every thread.
talonk - April 25, 2009
interesting, especially b/c king isn’t just posting stuff every few minutes. this is one of his only tweets during the draft thus far.
macasson - April 25, 2009
Crabtree was flashing them pearly whites on the phone
troy145 - April 25, 2009
He may be smiling, but if he sropped from 4 to 10, he probably lost $6-10M in guaranteed dough
talonk - April 25, 2009
maybe he’ll get an advertising deal with Subway to make up the losses
troy145 - April 25, 2009
Crabtree to the 49ers
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Damn, I was really hoping to see him in a Browns uniform by the end of the day. Oh well, we’ll get a great player at 17.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
All of this to Rufio: I’ll be out around 5:45 PM. Can you also open a Part 2 Day 1 draft topic when this thing boils over like, 400 comments (or maybe close to the end of round 1)?
Also, I probably won’t be around for the 17th pick, so you can do the brief write-up on that too.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
Word.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Who in front of us goes for a WR? Maybe Buffalo or San Diego? We could get Maclin at 17.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
I doubt Buffalo. SD, maybe. Nawlins?
rufio - April 25, 2009
NO has to go Defense with their lack of picks don’t they?
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
You would think. Not going to try to get inside anyone’s head besides Al Davis today.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Yeah, I would think so. Most people have them taking Jenkins.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Hmm…that would be intriguing. I could see the Redskins taking a WR. Or Houston.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Houston could have a pair of unreal WRs if Maclin worked out.
rufio - April 25, 2009
they already have johnson and walter, two GREAT WRs
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
I thought Walter was a TE?
talonk - April 25, 2009
I think SD takes a RB
talonk - April 25, 2009
Looks like Maybin to the Bills???
talonk - April 25, 2009
Maybin to the Bills.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Damn, I was hoping he would fall to us. That would have been a heckuva pick.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Denver on the clock, which DL/LB do they take?
talonk - April 25, 2009
Orakpo?
talonk - April 25, 2009
Orakpo
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
The only guys I can see are Peria Jerry to be their DE, a massive reach for a massive Ron Brace, or Orakpo or E. Brown. Not looking great for them right now? Cushing?
rufio - April 25, 2009
See you guys later…a shame I have to step away on one of the best NFL days of the year!
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
Ha Ha, Moreno looks like he’s playing Hearts at home while he is waiting to be picked.
talonk - April 25, 2009
The Broncos are a train wreck.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
I really like Moreno, but man, am I glad we didn’t get that coach.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Starting to sound like Al Davis
talonk - April 25, 2009
And the AFC West takes another shocker, Knowshawn Moreno
talonk - April 25, 2009
Wow — Broncos pick a RB????
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Well, Shanahan isn’t there to pick up a 5th/6th rounder who’ll get 1000+ yards
talonk - April 25, 2009
we could take andre hall as an FA if we cant find a RB in the draft
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
could orakpo fall to us?
Nat - April 25, 2009
totally overrated. i hope not.
wendigo - April 25, 2009
I think he will be a good 4-3 DE
rufio - April 25, 2009
I don’t think Orakpo falls past Wash
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
You got it
talonk - April 25, 2009
Nope
rufio - April 25, 2009
i think it’s a realistic possibility at this point. how great would that be?
drjeo - April 25, 2009
OK, obviously not.
drjeo - April 25, 2009
well theres the answer.
wendigo - April 25, 2009
Orakpo to the Redskins.
Chris Pokorny - April 25, 2009
Malcolm Jenkins maybe? Cushing?
Roger Dorn - April 25, 2009
Maclin? I thikn one of those 3
Roger Dorn - April 25, 2009
I want Rey, I admit it.
kwoog - April 25, 2009
I am with you.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Do we need Jenkins with the trade for the Jets safety?
talonk - April 25, 2009
i thought we got two DEs?
wendigo - April 25, 2009
Coleman is a DE, Elam is a safety
talonk - April 25, 2009
If he’s the best player on our board. I do think I’d prefer a LB though
Roger Dorn - April 25, 2009
Need? No. Getting Elam was key because now we can do best player available.
rufio - April 25, 2009
I’d guess Cushing, Wells, or Maclin
talonk - April 25, 2009
I think it comes down to Maclin, Wells, Maluagua, Cushing, Jenkins and Matthews
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Should definitely be one of them since only 3 can be taken ….
talonk - April 25, 2009
I’d honestly be excited about any of those picks. This is turning out great.
Do you think Mangini would pick maclin over those defensive guys?
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
donald brown is an amazing back. i havent done much research, but is he a possibility in the 2nd for us?
wendigo - April 25, 2009
Yes. I don’t think he’s “amazing”, though.
rufio - April 25, 2009
did you ever watch him play? i watched about 5 ucconn games and he was impressive in every single one.
wendigo - April 25, 2009
Watched film.
He’s 210, and he isn’t going to be able to do what he did to Big Least D’s in the NFL.
rufio - April 25, 2009
that guy in the steroid commercial was disgusting
troy145 - April 25, 2009
it’s not muscle, he basically shot himself up with a synthetic material.
kwoog - April 25, 2009
I hope with the extra 2nd, we consider the Barden kid at #52
talonk - April 25, 2009
Maluagua is a naildriver of a LB, this defense needs a personality.
elsandito - April 25, 2009
Grossi has been begging the Browns to take him all offseason. That would make him happy. He wanted him at 5, which is way too high.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Thats basically my least favorite part about Rey.
rufio - April 25, 2009
I’m sick of agreeing with you, man!
kwoog - April 25, 2009
My bad, I’ll just sit back from now on and hope you say what I am thinking.
rufio - April 25, 2009
You can’t respond to sarcasm with sarcasm.
kwoog - April 25, 2009
Haha.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
I would not mind Rey at 17. I HATED him at 5.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
so do we have two picks in a row in the second? 49 and 50?
kwoog - April 25, 2009
i think it is 50 and 52
talonk - April 25, 2009
Thanks. I just added 17 to 32.
kwoog - April 25, 2009
Maualuga at 17. Larry English/Connor Barwin at 36. Loadholt/Duke Robinson at 50. Rashad Jennings with the 3rd 2nd rounder.
rufio - April 25, 2009
then mike wallace in the 4th
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Sure thing, Al Davis.
(j/k)
rufio - April 25, 2009
its different to take speed in the 4th round
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Yeah I know. Not a bad pick if you are confident you can coach him up. You definitely want more and more of those guys as it gets later and later in the draft.
rufio - April 25, 2009
I know. to me he seems like Maclin without the polish. He ran like a 4.25 or something like that and he averaged over 20 ypc
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Jenkins to Saints
talonk - April 25, 2009
Real solid pick. Good luck to Malcolm.
rufio - April 25, 2009
im gonna miss watching him in ohio stadium :-( best of luck.
wendigo - April 25, 2009
Especially because I don’t like our CBs next year. I am hoping T. Howard emerges.
rufio - April 25, 2009
our secondary is our biggest question mark IMO….our secondary will be loaded in 2-3 years.
wendigo - April 25, 2009
Losing Donald Washington was big — I was surprised he left early. Wonder where he’ll go today.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
i dont think hes going anywhere TODAY…
wendigo - April 25, 2009
what do you guys think about lauranitis
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
No thanks.
rufio - April 25, 2009
be a alot of room under the cap at least
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
wells over little animal easily.
maybe in the second round if he somehow falls that far.
wendigo - April 25, 2009
no cushing for us
VABrownsFan - April 25, 2009
maybe a possibility?
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
Cushing to the Texans.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Matthews? Brown? Beanie? Jerry?
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
beanie beanie beanie!
wendigo - April 25, 2009
Rey…
kwoog - April 25, 2009
Hey’s on the board.
kwoog - April 25, 2009
I am going to open a 2nd thread at the end of the first round. Stay Tuned.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Ballsy.
rufio - April 25, 2009
ENglish to chargers? wow!
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Larry English to Chargers
talonk - April 25, 2009
We’re up….
im hoping for beanie.
wendigo - April 25, 2009
Look at the options when you pick this low in the draft.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Maclin, Rey, or Wells … so many choices
talonk - April 25, 2009
my guess...
clay matthews is too ironic
mndogpound - April 25, 2009
Maclin, Wells, or Mauluaga and I will be happy as hell.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
I want Beanie, but Maclin would be great too.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
no beanie no beanie no beanie
VABrownsFan - April 25, 2009
i agree.
kwoog - April 25, 2009
I am totally against drafting a running back here.
TonyH - April 25, 2009
I agree
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
me too. Rashad Jennings at 52 all the way!
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Matthews plz
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
maclin os overrated
palcal - April 25, 2009
no stat on how poorly the the 17th pic in the draft ends up on odd numbered days?
kwoog - April 25, 2009
If we don’t take Wells, would Detroit? That would be weird if they totally ignored their defense and took QB and RB in the first round
talonk - April 25, 2009
I doubt it. Kevin Smith is promising, but had no line to run behind next year. I would go OT.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Been at a bar sporting my BQ jersey. Real pumped by the details of the trade. Best thing we could have done given that Curry went to SEA.
All I can say is….options, options, options.
DisplacedBuckeye - April 25, 2009
And now…more options, options, options.
DisplacedBuckeye - April 25, 2009
traded pick to TB
Nat - April 25, 2009
ANOTHER TRADE!!!!
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
we trade our pick to the bucs!?>
wendigo - April 25, 2009
and we trade to bucs?
VABrownsFan - April 25, 2009
Whaa? Another trade w/TB!
exposition - April 25, 2009
Trade with Tampa BAY!!
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
wat did we do this time?
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
What?!
rufio - April 25, 2009
another trade – pick up more picks
palcal - April 25, 2009
Wow …. Mangini is sounding more and more like Belechick … dropping again
talonk - April 25, 2009
For Freeman? That would be hilarious.
rufio - April 25, 2009
make them throw in stovall
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
hmmm
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
i think we still get
matthews…
mndogpound - April 25, 2009
19th and their third rounder? I’m guessing here
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Yea! Rashad JEnnings with that 3rd
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
They ‘re moving ahead of Denver to get Freeman, I’ll bet.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
3rd rounder would have been my guess…would be really happy with that.
drjeo - April 25, 2009
6th round pick?
i dunno…
wendigo - April 25, 2009
actually, nevermind…still good…only lost 2 spots.
wendigo - April 25, 2009
We got a 6th rounder.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
We got a 6th rounder. I will take it.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Christ, really, a 6th rounder?
kwoog - April 25, 2009
6th? Thats it?
rufio - April 25, 2009
Picked up another 6th to move down two spots
talonk - April 25, 2009
19th and sixth round
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
We got the 191st pick.
exposition - April 25, 2009
A sixth rounder?!?!
DisplacedBuckeye - April 25, 2009
oh, only got a 6th. not great, but Browns obviously thought they could get the same player at 19
drjeo - April 25, 2009
exactly….my wishful thinking right now is that denver already took moreno, so wouldnt go after wells…
wendigo - April 25, 2009
we’re only dropping 2 spots
palcal - April 25, 2009
Freeman to Bucs
talonk - April 25, 2009
I’m not wild about Freeman…I think it’s a mistake for TB
drjeo - April 25, 2009
THats IT? Gosh at least throw in Maurice Stovall!
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
well, it was only 2 spots, and I think they’re looking for max value
drjeo - April 25, 2009
I just need them to pick, I need to go!
exposition - April 25, 2009
J’nathan Bullock
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
OK, no more moves. I want someone new to root for.
rufio - April 25, 2009
ha – me, too
drjeo - April 25, 2009
obviously the Browns did not want Freeman and weren’t concerned about Denver
palcal - April 25, 2009
Josh Freeman looks to be 12-years-old.
TonyH - April 25, 2009
I think Denver goes Rey
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
They are saying Ayers.
rufio - April 25, 2009
and Denver selects ……Robert Ayers, DE
talonk - April 25, 2009
so says Ed Werder
talonk - April 25, 2009
Lets trade down to 20 so we can get a 7th!(sarcasm)
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
ESPN is reporting that Denver will go Robert Ayers at 18.
We can still get the players we want
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Amazingly enough, Rey, Wells, and Maclin are all still available two picks later
talonk - April 25, 2009
We literally got a free 6th round pick. Honestly, hard to be upset about that.
DisplacedBuckeye - April 25, 2009
exactly
talonk - April 25, 2009
denver took ayers
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
i will unleash the rage if we trade down again
troy145 - April 25, 2009
IT was ayers, now lets take matthews
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
matthews? are you f’n kidding me?
wendigo - April 25, 2009
okay... now
Matthews
mndogpound - April 25, 2009
time to trade again
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
Rey, Wells or Maclin.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
echo, echo, echo
talonk - April 25, 2009
Yes.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
trade w/ philly so they get maclin & pick up a 3rd round pick
lenred - April 25, 2009
Wells and Maclin are overrated go with Rey
palcal - April 25, 2009
strike that…reverse that…
wendigo - April 25, 2009
they need to stop talking about denver on espn who cares about cutler
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
another trade!
TonyH - April 25, 2009
at 19, are you kidding?
kwoog - April 25, 2009
Did I mention that I love the draft?
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
I do love the draft.
rufio - April 25, 2009
haha…trade to eagles
Nat - April 25, 2009
Maybe Denver already has a deal worked out for DA?
elsandito - April 25, 2009
LO TRADED PICK TO EAGLES
wendigo - April 25, 2009
lolwut
troy145 - April 25, 2009
lol
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
WOW …. we gotta rename Mangini ….Trader Jack
talonk - April 25, 2009
AGAIN! Another 6th
exposition - April 25, 2009
21 and 195
exposition - April 25, 2009
#21
palcal - April 25, 2009
This has to be for Maclin. We OWN the sixth round!
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
does mangini really select when to trade? wouldnt that be kokinos?
wendigo - April 25, 2009
Kokinis. They probably are working as one person: ManKok.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Wait, seriously? What did we get this time?
I am re-writing my writeup on the pick for the 2nd time.
rufio - April 25, 2009
looks like maclin is gone…
wendigo - April 25, 2009
thankfully
palcal - April 25, 2009
we’re going to dominate the 6th round
lots of competition for the taxi squad
palcal - April 25, 2009
i called it
lenred - April 25, 2009
rec.
rufio - April 25, 2009
wish we got that 3rd tho…
lenred - April 25, 2009
The Browns will just keep trading down and have every pick in the 6th and 7th round.
TonyH - April 25, 2009
Detroit takes Oher? That would be a nice start for the Lions
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
philly is building a nice little WR corps
troy145 - April 25, 2009
Little, indeed.
rufio - April 25, 2009
that dog is freaking out
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
We’re gonna end up with no picks until the sixth round, but we get the entire sixth round.
elsandito - April 25, 2009
this just in....
Browns trade 6th round for the entire 7th round….
mndogpound - April 25, 2009
…i’ll TAKE it!
wendigo - April 25, 2009
Detroit’s not gonna take one of our LBs, are they?
kwoog - April 25, 2009
we should just keep trading picks back and back and into the future until finally in like the 2016 draft, we’re the only team with any picks.
troy145 - April 25, 2009
Another trade?
thevicar - April 25, 2009
Take Matthews NOW!
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Detroit takes Pettigrew .. .another shocker
talonk - April 25, 2009
Interesting pick with Pettigrew. I think he’ll be good. I probably would have went Oher.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Rey.
kwoog - April 25, 2009
Pettigrew? Should we consider OHer?
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
I he could probably play RT. He is supposed to be a good run blocker who isn’t as mobile as a LT should be. You’d like another 15 lbs of muscle on him.
rufio - April 25, 2009
I bet we take Rey now
talonk - April 25, 2009
Lions take Pettigrew, not O-line.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Poor Stafford. He still won’t have time to throw.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Exactly what i was thinking
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
I think that now we are picking so low we should take Lebron
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
they always go to commercial right before we pick
wendigo - April 25, 2009
All 4 times!
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
miami trades w us to get wells, we get another 6th
lenred - April 25, 2009
i hope
lenred - April 25, 2009
I cant tell if u are kidding
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
sorry, i should be clear in that this what i hope happens.
lenred - April 25, 2009
Yes, please do that.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Ravens board is ticked at Detroit for taking Pettigrew … also that FanPost by Orange Helmats is a Raven Troll named Mr. Malor (he just admitted it was his alter ego…… can we remove that post?
talonk - April 25, 2009
Flag it for Chris/Brad
rufio - April 25, 2009
Will do.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Pat Kirwan on Sirius seems to think Everett Brown is in the mix
exposition - April 25, 2009
as he should be.
rufio - April 25, 2009
ALEX MACK WTF
wendigo - April 25, 2009
Interesting
rufio - April 25, 2009
Cal Bears
palcal - April 25, 2009
MACK? NOOO! REEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAHCh
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Alex MAck??? Really?
talonk - April 25, 2009
whoo hoo...
Yes… 21st … Alex Mack…
mndogpound - April 25, 2009
mack????
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
Huh??? Now?
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
I KNEW it!
JustBob - April 25, 2009
WHat the hell?
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
At least that screws the Steelers lol
talonk - April 25, 2009
i went to Stanford / Mack is one of the few Bears I would support
palcal - April 25, 2009
uhhhhh…..
TonyH - April 25, 2009
Hmmm… still shitty LBs.
kwoog - April 25, 2009
I didn’t say so earlier, but as soon as they started moving down, I started thinking they’d firm up the middle of the O-line
JustBob - April 25, 2009
I loved his show on Nickelodeon.
exposition - April 25, 2009
I am very nonplussed by this pick.
DisplacedBuckeye - April 25, 2009
I love Mack, but I think we could have gotten him in the second.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
or Antoine Caldwell
troy145 - April 25, 2009
in the second, that is
troy145 - April 25, 2009
sorry, forgot subject lines
dont mean to frustrate/annoy/roid rage anyone
troy145 - April 25, 2009
Mack is the clear cut center to have from this draft. Caldwell…meh.
rufio - April 25, 2009
troy145 - April 25, 2009
Matthews or Barwin will hopefully be there at 36
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
Sellers of Pot in MN rejoice!
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
i like the pick. We need a center, hopefully Matthews will be there at 36
dvd1204 - April 25, 2009
Mack would have gone at 22 or 30
palcal - April 25, 2009
rather 32 to Steelers
palcal - April 25, 2009
great pick by minnesota…they have Peterson and now harvin to stretch the field.
wendigo - April 25, 2009
I’m disappointed. I thought we could address Center at 36 better than LB.
kwoog - April 25, 2009
am worried Rey goes to the Ravens, he’ll thrive in that D
talonk - April 25, 2009
We're sitting on him
But if Wells falls, we’re calling Arizona for Boldin.
Baltimo - April 25, 2009
I think this is your play as well.
DisplacedBuckeye - April 25, 2009
And I was completely wrong.
DisplacedBuckeye - April 25, 2009
Yup
Me too, but Oher was great as well.
Baltimo - April 25, 2009
We called a meeting with Sanchez so we could create a smoke screen and end up with Mack?
elsandito - April 25, 2009
they had to do that to generate desperation for those that want sanchez. they just kept moving down to get picks & create organizational depth. not a bad strategy, just wish we took the LB
lenred - April 25, 2009
You guys will love Alex Mack
He is actually one of the best linemen, not just centers around. Never missed a game for Cal, and they always had 1200 yard rushers with him blocking.
Type in Alex Mack 2008 highlights into Youtube; the video was just posted today.
MinerNiner - April 25, 2009
Thanks for the insight. I wanted him to be a Brown, but I wanted him in the 2nd. Either way, I jope he is a Pro Bowler
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Thanks. Of the few Cal games I got to see, he definitely jumped off the screen.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Dude can do the splits! He gets leverage Pac-10 defenders had voted him the best OL two years in a row. Rey Maualuga has said that he was the best player had played against some time last year. I wish I was able to link his highlight video from my computer for you guys, but I have no idea how to do so from a Mac; but that’s another discussion.
MinerNiner - April 25, 2009
I have got to think that ManKok are getting some pretty valuable insight into the draft methods of a lot of NFL teams. They had to be inside the heads of at least the 3 teams we traded with, if not a few of the teams between 17-21.
rufio - April 25, 2009
I’m good with the pick.
My personal thing is that the whole game flows from the O-line. It can never be too good.
PS: SBnation kicks my computer’s ass. :(
doowop - April 25, 2009
Ravens trade up to get Oher? not a LB …. I like the Oher pick, but I really expected them to go D
talonk - April 25, 2009
Where do they put him on the Oline? Shift someone inside to make up for Jason Brown?
rufio - April 25, 2009
The longer Rey lasts, the happier I get
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
You guys got a future Pro Bowler in the NFL. He’s won the Morris Award twice for best OL in the Pac-10 (as voted on by the DEFENSIVE LINEMEN of the Pac-10). He’s the hardest working guy you’ll ever meet and was a state finalist WRESTLER in HS. He also won the ‘Academic Heisman’ — the Draddy Award.
His best quality is that he plays snap to whistle EVERY PLAY.
You can check out his highlights at www.californiagoldenblogs.com
You’ll love him.
Thoroughbred - April 25, 2009
Stay thirsty
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Gotta love that up in Cleveland.
Also love former wrestlers as OL.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Also, in his best game in his career, he ATE UP Sedrick Ellis (7th overall pick last year) and did not allow him to make a single tackle.
Thoroughbred - April 25, 2009
Also his biggest negative from scouting reports is he is sometimes overly aggressive
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
Michael Oher, the next player to face Kamerion Wimbley’s run around pass move. Be afraid, be very afraid.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
I feel that he comes off the board pretty soon.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Once again, the Ravens got a guy who doesn’t just want to win, he needs to win.
elsandito - April 25, 2009
What did NE get in the trade?
rufio - April 25, 2009
just saw that cincy waived former buckeye kirk barton on thursday. do we give him a look?
lenred - April 25, 2009
He signed with the Lions.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Man, Wells and Rey are dropping way farther than I thought
talonk - April 25, 2009
Good pick by Atlanta.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Jerry is the kind of guy we want at RDE if you are watching ESPN and can see him jump off the line.
rufio - April 25, 2009
Peria Jerry to the Falcons
talonk - April 25, 2009
I’m surprised Beanie, Rey Malauga and Everette Brown are still on the board.
So where does Beanie go now? Who needs a RB?
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Am I the only person who thinks that BE is a Brown on Monday?
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
no i agree or we would of had to at least of went earlier for newer talent
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
Proving what? He can be traded post draft.
elsandito - April 25, 2009
I bet Miami takes Wells and NE takes Rey
talonk - April 25, 2009
hey
how many picks do we have and what are they?
Brownsfan87 - April 25, 2009
we have 9 left
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
Wells, rey and matthews still there, and so are nicks, britt, brown and barwin
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
we may get one of them at 36
talonk - April 25, 2009
that was my hope
BradyQuinnisBeast - April 25, 2009
I was wrong, Dolphins took Vonte Davis
talonk - April 25, 2009
Miami is taking Vontae Davis.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
rufio … time for a new thread?? this one is over 600 now
talonk - April 25, 2009
I agree, this one is getting slow.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Sounds good. Gimme a sec.
rufio - April 25, 2009
2 Pick 4 (36)
2 Pick 18 (50) From Bucs
2 Pick 20 (52) (From Jets)
4 Pick 4 (104)
6 Pick 4 (177)
6 Pick 18 (191) (From Buccaneers)
6 Pick 22 (195) (From Vikings through Eagles)
billyv23 - April 25, 2009
if nicks goes in next 3 picks do giants make move for BE?
lenred - April 25, 2009
i could see the Colta taking him … Gonzalez is better in the slot rather than in Harrison’s spot
talonk - April 25, 2009
Do the Giants need to make that move today?
elsandito - April 25, 2009
I would think so. I don’t see how the Browns trade BE without getting something for him today.
Bernie19Kosar - April 25, 2009
Right.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
Packers take Clay Matthews.
Buckeye Brad - April 25, 2009
