We thought our team wasn't competitive last year when Ken Dorsey was operating our offense. Imagine what things will be like the rest of the way after the injuries the Browns suffered in last week's game against the Cincinnati Bengals.
After placing Shaun Rogers on the injured reserve earlier in the week, it was announced today that S Brodney Pool and RB Jamal Lewis were placed on the injured reserve. Pool going on the injured reserve wasn't too much of a surprise. It was revealed after Sunday's game that he suffered a head injury, which wasn't good news considering his history of concussions.
Lewis going on the injured reserve came out of left field. It is being reported that Lewis, like Pool, also suffered a head injury against the Bengals. Earlier in the offseason, Lewis told the media that this would be his final season in the NFL. If he holds true to his word, then his career will not have ended on a bright spot. The Browns are currently tied for the worst record in football at 1-10, and on the season Lewis was averaging a mere 3.5 yards per carry without a single touchdown. While our quarterbacks weren't efficient enough to give Lewis enough opportunities, Lewis never appeared to hit the hole very well this season.
With the three injuries, that means there will have to be some shifts in the starting lineup this week against the San Diego Chargers. Among my predictions...
Ideally, I'd love to see Harrison receive the opportunity to start again, but based on the recent events of the past few weeks, I don't think that's what Eric Mangini has in mind.

The Browns have already claimed DB Ramzee Robinson off waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles. If the name sounds at all familiar to you, then perhaps you remember him as bring the Mr. Irrelevant of the 2007 NFL Draft when the Detroit Lions selected him. Yep, we can now brag that we have an irrelevant player. He only has 24 tackles in his NFL career, but drew some laughingstock criticism last season with the Lions:
Before we get to the particulars, let me make sure you know about the player of the day. I speak, of course, of Ramzee Robinson. In the second half at Green Bay, Robinson, a Lions defensive back, was penalized for taunting. The Lions at that point were 0-15 and within sight of attaining the designation they now hold, that of worst NFL team ever. After a Green Bay incompletion, Robinson danced around, pointing at himself and taunting Packers receiver James Jones. A player for the worst-ever NFL team was called for taunting in the game in which that team reached 0-16.

Stay classy Ramzee.
Bernie19Kosar - December 2, 2009
So, as DBs are shifted around, does this mean we will see more of Poteat? Personally I’ve already seen more of him than I care to. Is there any chance Francies will see the field before Robinson?
JustBob - December 2, 2009
Right, don’t think anyone’s mentioned Poteat. I really don’t see him doing anything.
skipkirk - December 2, 2009
I really hope Francies finds the field over the last few weeks.
Ryan Kelsey - December 2, 2009
Is he not injured anymore?
BLAZER_FAN_199 - December 3, 2009
I don’t think so. He isn’t listed on the injury report and he is not on the IR.
Ryan Kelsey - December 3, 2009
Well then. Play him.
BLAZER_FAN_199 - December 3, 2009
Agreed. Worth a shot, right? Certainly a better risk / reward than Ramzee at this point, am I wrong?
Simmsinns - December 3, 2009
This is what drives me crazy about Mangini.
I just know that Ramzee will be on the field at some point Sunday. Why, with a coach who bases so much of his evaluation on practice time, can a guy off the street walk in and play right away?
Bernie19Kosar - December 3, 2009
I don’t even know what to say anymore.
gahnki - December 2, 2009
Uncle.
Bernie19Kosar - December 3, 2009
There’s always next year?
RelapsingDawgCatcher - December 3, 2009
Ah, you’re referring to the saying of Cleveland sports in general. Good point.
BLAZER_FAN_199 - December 3, 2009
Hopefully Ramzee wants to redeem his career and turns into a hall of fame caliber player.
Villeslgr - December 2, 2009
and hopefully bill gates drives a dump-truck full of cash to my apartment tomorrow
notthatnoise - December 2, 2009
Villeslgr, so far you are the clear winner of the DBN Optimism Award for this thread. Well done!
RelapsingDawgCatcher - December 2, 2009
I would love to claim that award but I honestly couldn’t find a cool enough sarcasm picture to post.
Villeslgr - December 2, 2009
Sounds like a big apologist to me
Roger Dorn - December 2, 2009
damn apologists, they’re everywhere!
notthatnoise - December 2, 2009
heheh, Sure…
johnnyphoenix - December 2, 2009
Well as far as Lewis that is for the better, lets give the two kids a chance to see what they can do. I know Rogers was awesome, and one of my daughters favorite players, but he seemed like a prim a dona to me. sorry. We never did get a chance to optimize his play.
Pool too bad, he seemed to be flying all over the field at times. McDonald scares all of us…will Phil Rivers eat us up this weekend?
Red-Right-88 - December 3, 2009
Yes. First he’ll tenderize, then marinate, and cook for an hour at 450, turning every 15 minutes. He will end the day consuming the mouth-watering defense just like everyone else for the last 10 years…minus 2007…ok part of 2007.
BLAZER_FAN_199 - December 3, 2009
what makes you think Rogers is a prima donna? (unless “prim a dona” is something different).
Ryan Kelsey - December 3, 2009
how many practices did he sit out in pre season? didnt he whine a little bout missing the lions? seems to me like he practiced when he wanted, and at his size who is gonna argue with that?
Red-Right-88 - December 3, 2009
I don’t remember any of that. You might be right, but I don’t think any of it is a big deal.
Ryan Kelsey - December 3, 2009
I could be remembering it wrong, but wasn’t it one of our D-Linemen that ended up in Detroit the one that said Rogers misses Detroit?
shep615 - December 3, 2009
Shaun Smith, who is a jackass.
Roger Dorn - December 3, 2009
Yeah… Other than allegedly being a little pissy when Mangini didn’t say hi to him at that one press conference, I don’t remember him being much of a prima donna…
shep615 - December 3, 2009
…and out of the league.
golanbatrac - December 3, 2009
Prima Donna DT’s don’t hustle all the way to the sideline to horse collar Carson Palmer.
golanbatrac - December 3, 2009
Mangini left Rogers out of most of preseason. I think someone said it was because Rogers didn’t need to practice. In any case, they’ve made up since.
skipkirk - December 3, 2009
Does anyone think Lewis might try to make his way into camp next year? He doesn’t seem like the guy who wants his career to end on something he can’t control. I don’t think this is the last we’ve seen of him..
BLAZER_FAN_199 - December 3, 2009
Not with us
Roger Dorn - December 3, 2009
no way he’s in a browns uniform next year. my guess is that the negativity surrounding him this season won’t be retained here any longer than it has to be.
Dawg Nuts - December 3, 2009
I sure hope it’s the last. Not that I wanted it to end this way for him, but it needed to end.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - December 3, 2009
Since we´re still playing a single back, I think we´re better off featuring Vickers. I bet he can out run Harrison and Jennings. And if he gets a lot of yardage, we can pay him as a fullback.
mooncamping - December 3, 2009
You’re joking right? Vickers is literally my favorite Brown right now, but that’s not how to use him.
dgcambridge - December 3, 2009
FBs all the way, moon
holmes213 - December 3, 2009
Or why not play Josh Cribbs at RB? Good gosh, he’s played safety and WR and punt return and kickoff team/return team and QB… Who knows? Maybe he could even play CB instead of Brandon McDonald? Or he could even fill in for Shaun Rogers. I’m thoroughly convinced Cribbs can do ANYTHING on the football field.
I’m joking about most of those suggestions… But why not try him out at RB? He runs really well out of the wildcat. Hell, everyone KNOWS that when he takes the snap in the wildcat that he’s running the ball. They KNOW what’s going to happen and he still gets yardage. What happens when he’s the singleback standing behind Quinn? No one knows! He could run the ball. He could block. He could even catch passes as a check-down back! I like these possibilities.
shep615 - December 3, 2009
NO
mgtbfb - December 3, 2009
The NO was in reply to the suggestion of featuring Vickers.
I like the idea of Cribbs as a full time RB. Think it’s a brilliant idea actually.
mgtbfb - December 3, 2009
And while we´re at it lets also start Robiskie for the rest of the season. Otherwise, when it comes time to trade him they´ll say he was untested, and we´ll like get too much for him.
mooncamping - December 3, 2009
Oh, and then lets find a way to get all five middle linebackers on the field at the same time. In case you forgot, that´s (in order of acquisition) MLB David Vaikune, MLB Kaluka Maiava, MLB Jason Trusnik, MLB Josh Stamer and MLB Matt Roth. MLB´s will be very popular when everyone switches to a 4-3, because they couldn´t find their vaunted DE/OLB hybrid archetype super linebackers that all the runningbacks like running into to keep their own yardage in check, and thus have to forever give up on a 3-4 ever succeeding in the NFL.
mooncamping - December 3, 2009
We could run a 2-5 since we have 5 MLBs
Roger Dorn - December 3, 2009
But to maximize their body types we must line all 5 up between the hash marks
Ryan Kelsey - December 3, 2009
wrong.
mooncamping - December 4, 2009
but if we line them out too wide, won’t they be playing out of position… at… gasp… outside linebacker?!
Ryan Kelsey - December 4, 2009
right.
mooncamping - December 4, 2009
Maybe Mangini could yell at Rob Ryan again, and then when no one even comments on it, most people will have to realize how secure his job is.
mooncamping - December 3, 2009
Don´t forget to tell the players, that due to Mangini´s stupid comments versus the Lions, they can now fake injuries without anyone questioning it. Or they can just run their own demise with the Browns by committing fouls at critical junctures.
mooncamping - December 3, 2009
Derek Anderson should at least hold a clip-board and look enthusiastic. After all we´re still paying him starters money.
mooncamping - December 3, 2009
lol no shit. Derek and Jay Cutler are the two biggest sour puss negative nancy’s in the NFL.
johnnyphoenix - December 3, 2009
This is probably the only comment that I agree with.
skipkirk - December 3, 2009
And darn, that Abe Elam is bothersome. After all we absolutely must draft Mays or Berry, are there any other safeties we can´t get around drafting?
mooncamping - December 3, 2009
I can´t believe no one has posted these top secret documents:
