call stupid plays with zero chance of benefiting other than getting his players killed. Plus, with Brady’s intentional cheap shot, he should be a lot lighter in his wallet this week. And you call Ray a cheap shot? Besides, it wasn’t Ray on that hit, it was Dwan Edwards that leveled Cribbs on a LEGAL hit! Oh, by the way, that hit at Flacco knees wasn’t a penalty, but don’t go calling our guys cheap shots if your guys aren’t any better and are just frustrated which is certainly understandable. Get a new coach and a solid Front Office and tell your owner to lay off and you will turn it around. Good luck rest of season.
Guys. Let’s not be ridiculous. Ray Lewis didn’t murder anyone, he only hangs out with murderers. Besides the justice system has proven time and again (think OJ Simpson) that if you the court of law finds you innocent, it must be true.
He might be the dirtiest professional commentator, but he is no longer the dirtiest player in the NFL. That title, as voted by his peers, now belongs to Hines Ward.
Cribbs lateraled on the last play of the game. After the lateral, Ray Lewis hit him in the head as someone else hit him from behind. Steve Tasker just said that he was talking to the medical staff and was moving fingers and legs.
That is fucking disgusting. I’m sickened not only as a Browns fan, but as just a sports fan as well. Absolutely despicable. I really hope Ray Lewis faces justice one day, be it vigilante or otherwise.
What happened to Cribbs?! I turned off the game with 10 minutes to go so missed it, but heard that Cribbs got hurt? What happened, what kind of play, did it look bad?
As much as I want Eric Berry, I’m slowly starting to think that the Browns may need to go with a QB. Unless scouts think that a player like Zac Robinson, Bill Stull or Casey Keenum will work. The best thing that could happen for the Browns is that Clausen and Locker decide to stay one more year. If not it will be at least 2 years until a franchise QB like Matt Barkley or Andrew Luck are eligible.
How can any QB do anything with the surrounding talent we have right now on offense though? It would just shake their confidence. We need a running game and defense first, then a QB.
you hear people all the time talking about standing in the pocket and taking a hit to get the ball off. quinn doesn’t do that, he starts backpedaling and throws wild passes off of his back foot. he needs to stand tall in the pocket and deliver the football, and not worry about the hit.
That only helps if your offensive line can keep the defense off of you long enough to make it happen. Last night, the Ravens were all over Quinn and for the most part, it wasn’t his fault. The Ravens were bringing the house on almost every play because they knew the Browns couldn’t run on them with any success.
If he had some spare change, I wouldn’t mind Lerner selling the team to him. OH! And he could wear a Browns bone on his head in place of Dawg Pound Mike. He could take care of all the most hated people in the Browns organization in one fell swoop :-p
This Mangini experiment reminds me of the Cam Cameron/Dolphins situation-, maybe they are building something, but a really bad year kills all hope and trust. I really wonder if the players even listen to Mangini anymore.
I love Gruden, he was rooting for the Browns really bad, and how bout those old photos when he was a kid. Not only that he has the best analysis on MNF since…well maybe ever…but he just re-upped for another 5 years for MNF…why leave?
I think he’ll be here too…we are COMPLETELY rebuilding with this draft. I am more concerned about who is going to come in and fill the “Parcells” position
This was actually one of the better games (for the most part). Your D played admirably. Special Teams wasn’t bad. The Ints were due to the recievers. Your O-coordinator needs to be sacked for the worst O-play calling I’ve ever seen. A lot closer than the score suggested.
You see what we’ve been seeing, unfortunately the defense hasn’t always been able to give a full game effort like they did today leading to some of the bigger blow out scores.
This is par for the course. We are used to either our D not showing up at all or playing well. It’s just that to be honest, I have never, ever, in my 35 years seen a worse offense in the NFL at any than this one.
Think about it. 2 weeks to prepare. 2 weeks. And we get that.
Total embarrassment. I don’t give two shits who QB’s this team, Marino, Montana or Peyton Manning. The whole unit is garbage and that is led by Mangini and Dabol.
I never in my life have seen such a horrible offensive team, never.
Mangini better not survive this. He hired Dabol, he hired Kotankus, he drafted Veinkine and passed on McCoy.
This team will maybe beat the Raiders, 2-14. Just a shame.
This is on Mangini.
I am, you can’t tell me that this team has hit rock bottom. What Browns team has been worse. The 1999 team would beat this team. How in the world can you look at this with any hope.
It is plain and obvious to everyone except maybe you.
I can. Mangini brought in Rob Ryan. He also brought in Maiava who I believe, given time, will contribute. I would’ve liked better if he could play next to Barton or Jackson but that’s just the way it is.
How about Dabol and the fired GM,? How about the total digression of this offense?
When the Browns lose to the Lions, that will step up the process for the overhaul of this team, once again.
Lerner understands his mistake.
So Daboll is a mistake.A lot of people believe so, including me. Given that Seely and Ryan are fine, that’s 2/3. Name me someone that is perfect who is gunna be a 3/3.
As for the GM, none of us are in a position to criticise him because no one knew what happened. We can criticise Mangini for not letting us know, but that’s as far as it’ll go.
Why is it that for the second time this year, 8 games into the season the Players association is going to investigate Mangini. First for the water bottles now the claims by Lewis and the practice routines. Fair or not, this is still going on. He has hired Dabol that is a total failure. What about the O line coach or even the QB coach? This offense is the worst I have seen in 40 years, that includes the 1999 Browns who look like a machine compared to this team.
It is these kinda water bottle fines and hard practice routines that have made us go from 32nd in penalties to 1st (or 2nd depending on today’s). And in my opinion, those fines are fair. We just have some players who seem to want to have a cry about it.
And Lewis? Most people here agree that he’s a whiner.
Mangini may not have used the taboo word but we are rebuilding. We’ll give a shit if we’re in a position to win. And hey, we were in a position to win for 2 quarters.
This isn’t all about football. To Mangini football players happen to be human beings. You build them as players but more importantly as human beings.
I’ll add that I’m with you in saying that the offense is one of the worst I’ve seen. But when your Head Coach is leading you in a right direction in one area, you don’t yank him because he’s going in a wrong direction in another. You yank the root of the problem that is Daboll.
You make valid points. I just don’t by into the Mangini style. I agree accountability and dedication were needed on this team. I am just not sold on Mangini the coach.
This isn’t college. It isn’t Mangini’s job to shape these guys as “human beings”. It is his job to win some football games.
There is a reason why complete dirt bags like Ray Lewis and Leonard Little are still playing football. They help their coach win football games. Same goes for Mike Vick and soon Larry Johnson. If Mangini wants to shape young men into good human beings, he should take his ass down the Big Brothers office in Cleveland.
True story on Rob Ryan and Maiava… What was Mangini in New England? It’s been my understanding that he’s more of a defensive minded coach. Maybe Mangini just sucks at offense. I honestly think the best thing to do is hire the Bill Parcells type of guy ASAP, let him can Brian Daboll, and hire a new OC. The defense seems to be coming around, and I think that’s mostly because of Ryan and Mangini both being defensive guys. Mangini probably isn’t a huge offensive guy and Daboll just sucks in general.
Eric Mangini, embattled head coach of the offensively inept Cleveland Browns, has made another QB change in the continuing carousel of Browns signal callers. When asked about the change by local media, Mangini responded:
What I told Elmo when he first got the job and, later, when I told him I was going to start him, is that the important thing in my mind was all the progress he made since he had gotten here: that he was3-and-a-half years old, and that he can refer to himself almost entirely in the third person. As with many QB’s of his age, he is seen somewhat infrequently with a favorite toy of his: an orange monster-like doll named David.
Elmo’s Seasonal Stats: 3’1. 22 lbs. Lives in an apartment with his mommy, his daddy, and, in some storybooks, a sister named Daisy.
Yeah. McDonald is just atrocious. His girlfriend used to work for me, and she got fired because she never showed up to work. Looks like a trend here. True story.
Quinn’s QB rating of 23.5 tonight was better than Anderson in his last game but was below
Anderson’s season rating of 36.2
We don’t have to see much more of Quinn to know we don’t want him back next year, but if he has more games like this, we won’t be able to pay anybody enough to take him off our hands.
I’d stick with Quinn for now. I highly doubt whoever our #3 QB is would yield better results. And I think Quinn needs to see more snaps before we say he can’t improve. No one is going to win with our team right now, so why not give him a chance to salvage his career?
Gradkowski and Frye will be coming to town next month with the Raiders.. Maybe we can get one of them to stick around after Quinn and DA clean out their lockers.
Come on, give Quinn a chance to prove he’s not the QB of the future. For goodness sake, he only took 174 NFL snaps before this game. Give him some time to adjust, strip Brian Daboll of his play calling abilities, and let Quinn play against a defense that isn’t a top tier defense. The poor kid hasn’t been able to catch a break.
Got to stick with BQ for now. God help us, but what choice is there at this point? Ratliff in a few weeks maybe if BQ continues like this, but until then….
the browns defense looks very encouraging, lets not forget this ravens team actually has an explosive offense, and they were held to a touchdown and a field goal.
Something also has to be done about Quinn and St Clair. Give them a box to stay in for 2 nights so they can talk things over. Who the heck knows what’s going on between them..
St Clair doesn’t hate Quinn. There has to be some difference between Quinn and Anderson that exposes a vulnerability in St Clair’s game when Quinn is under center. Figure out what that is, and problem solved.
How many times did Brady Quinn have a 7 step drop? I cannot remember once other than the final deep passes. The DB’s for the Ravens weren’t even worried about a deep pass. Does this playbook even have a PA deep ball?
I feel bad for Shaun Rogers. I think that he is the best DT in the NFL and no one will ever know.
Maivia is a good looking young player. I don’t know if we will be a 3-4 or 4-3 team next season, but this kid has got to find the field somehow.
Jerome Harrison. Since his 100 yard game he has 21 carries in 5 games. Awesome offensive game planning there.
I assume that Cribbs is out for awhile. This team is going to be unwatchable.
Agree on all accounts.
Two points. Even when the Ravens rushed 3 Quinn had issues getting the ball off. They even sacked him on a 3 man rush.
Dabol should never call a play again in Cleveland.
Oh and the amount of times we lose yardage on a freakin’ pass play. What the heck? I understand getting stuffed on the run, but when you keep losing yardage on pass plays you know Daboll is in cuckooland.
Well not hard to understand how we would keep losing yards on pass plays when every pass Daboll calls is a feaking screen play or a little 3 and out. This guy needs to go like last week.If mangini is not forced to fire this fool then there is no hope in righting this thing even a little bit.
It is going ot be very hard to see a game with out Cribbs out there and there is a chance we might not see him the rest of the season. One has to hope that the hit on him will not be in his mind when he does get back on the field.
“Josh Cribbs was taken to the hospital after taking a blow to the throat and head area on the final play of Monday night’s loss to the Ravens. Cribbs was released Tuesday morning, according to Alex Marvez of FOX. Coach Eric Mangini said that Cribbs has movement and feeling all over his body and was taken to the hospital as more of a precaution. Expect Cribbs, the Browns only real playmaker, to miss at least one week.” - from the National Football Post, via the Browns’ Rotoworld Wire box on the front page here.
At first I thought maybe it was just that the camera angles weren’t showing anybody more than 15 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Then I heard one of the announcers (Gruden?) in the third round comment that he hadn’t seen one of them run a route more than 15-20 yards deep. That was when I realized that the problem was a combination of Daboll’s calls and St. Claire’s matador impression.
The record of the opponents the Browns have faced: 44-28, without playing the browns: 36-27. For a silver lining, you have to believe our defense will eat up Stafford on Sunday
(yes we need to move on quickly)
At least last night, Quinn was rushing the throws so badly that they had little to no chance of being accurate. He is playing with absolutely no sense of rhythm. What is really unsettling to me is that I thought during last night’s game: why have we thought that this offensive line is any good at all? There are no running lanes, and the QB and even offensive coordinator (a term I use very loosely for Daboll) appear to have no confidence in them at all. The whole passing “attack” is built on quick outs, screens, 3-step drops. Of course, since no defense worries a whit about the Browns’ running game, everybody is pass rushing on every down. I was surprised how ineffective Steinbach looked last night, and “Brady hater” St. Clair was back in full force. Absolutely the worst offense I ever remember, without equal. There is nothing they do well.
my “Brady hater” comment was intended as sarcasm. Sorry, I should have marked it as such. I don’t actually think that, but there is no doubt that St. Clair has played much more poorly when Quinn is in the backfield this year. And BTW: how do you know that St. Clair doesn’t hate him? Sure, it would be professional suicide to let personal animosity interfere with one’s play, but I don’t believe for a minute that it doesn’t happen sometimes: not in the performance of basic tasks, but in the willingness (or lack of willingness) to give full effort.
Yeah. Neither of the INTs was a great throw, to be sure, but even average NFL receivers catch balls all the time that aren’t great throws. An argument could be made that this is, overall, the worst group of receivers in the NFL in the last 20 years. No receiver on this team is playing at the expected level of even a 3rd receiver for most NFL teams. Can’t get separation, unreliable catchers, incorrect route reads – the whole trifecta of suck.
Let’s just say that everyone sucks. Pass off target, receivers let it bounce off their hands in the air. Playcalling only has receivers running 3-5 yards routes. Thsi combination makes for the worst offense in NFL history.
When things look this bad there are almost always multiple problems. It is like the perfect storm or one of those engineering disasters on TV. All these factors both big and small combine to create total crapitude.
Quite. If we’re assessing blame, I chalk up one INT to Furrey and one to a lousy pass by BQ. That pretty much comes down to everyone sucking a bit, so there you go.
As much as I want to place blame on the receivers for the INTs, those passes were way off the mark.
Still I watched most of the Bengals Steelers game and if there was every a QB that throws hard and puts the ball in tough places to catch it is Palmer. I cannot believe the pace he puts on the ball. There were a couple of drops but for the most part they have receivers that can catch. And even their new back (I think his name is Scott) caught a ball out of the backfield that was thrown at 90 mph and was targeted at his left ear. He not only caught it but then turned and ran 10+ more yards for a first down. I saw Ochocinco layout for another bullet which was thrown to far ahead of him in a crossing route but he still made the catch. As others have said, I think the NFL and particularly the Browns it seems do not put a premium on guys that can actually catch the ball. Heck, one of the best receptions of the night came from Heiden who can actually catch the ball. Once he limped off the field I don’t think there was another decent catch all night.
Were any of you timing how long Quinn had to throw the ball? It looked like Ravens were in his face in practically every play until the 4th quarter. It also looked like Quinn was not permitted to take any sort of shot past 10 yards until mid-way through the 4th quarter (and those long balls at the end were horrible). Daboll stinks. Let Carl Smith call plays.
I think Harrison has been getting fewer opportunities because he can’t block effectively. With the lousy O-line play, this appears essential. We should have had Gaines in there, if he was healthy, because he can actually block and catch.
Offensive line wasn’t great. Steinbach and St. Clair stood out in my mind as having terrible games. Couldn’t believe how poorly Steinbach played, St. Clair less surprising.
He was a college tackle. I can see how he might not have the girth to be a starting tackle. The Browns were having him work some as backup left tackle in pre-season, though, so I thought his speed and technique might be advantageous on the other side.
What long ball? For the offense, the “long ball” was 5 yards. I know that is your point, but open up the playbook. Quinn has been in the league for 3 years now.
Ravens played just well enough to win and kept their offense purposely under wraps, so as not to give up anything for the two games coming up against Indy and Pittsburgh. You guys had a lot of heart. Hope Cribbs is okay but hit was legal and fair. Stupid call by Mangini down by 16 points on last play, what was the dude thinking? Can’t say the same about Brady’s cheap shot that should have him pay big bucks, certainly more than Ray’s on Ocho Cinco, as Suggs may now miss a couple of games. Also Haruki Nakamura is out fo rthe season due to broken ankle.
Tried to stay away all week but just wanted to wish you guys luck down the stretch and hang in there fans.
Ravens played just well enough to win and kept their offense purposely under wraps, so as not to give up anything for the two games coming up against Indy and Pittsburgh.
That’s pretty much wrong. The Raven’s offense isn’t a mystery at this point; there is very little to hide as far as formations/concepts/personnel goes. They were simply out-played by the Browns defense. No shame in admitting that although you seem like the type of person who will not concede anything.
Stupid call by Mangini? And Cribs is upset he was out there on the field for the last game? Ahhhhh! Every snap Quinn gets is worth something, and hopefully we are trying to score on each play. Is Cribbs a member of the Browns? Why shouldnt he be out there for the last play? Now if we had a shot at the playoffs, then you watch stuff like that. KNR said that Cribbs agent said, Cribbs is “mad at Mangini” for being on the field for the last play.
Thats B.S. the reception would be like a kick return, he was the best one to give the ball to in that situation. He wants a bigger contract, but doesn’t want to see the field?
“Flacco connected on a 41-yard pass to Derrick Mason, who spun out of cornerback Brandon McDonald’s tackle and raced down the sideline to the Cleveland 13.”
I think it’s extremely generous to call McDonald’s effort there a “tackle”. He got caught completely in no-man’s land. He had no play on the ball, but acted like he thought he could jump the route. As a result, he was too far upfield, and had no shot at Mason. His “tackle” barely grazed Mason, at best. It was a truly awful play that changed the entire tenor of the game at that point.
There is no way an offense can win in the NFL. And as John Gruden put it, you could put any quarterback in history behind that line , and with that game plan , and theres no way they could succeed. For Petes’s sake, when you cant block a three man rush, thats pathetic. Its going to take a complete offensive rebuild and a different attitude before this team can win on a consistant basis, the futility of this system makes me ashamed.
3rd from Jets (potentially 2nd depending on Edwards)
5th from Jets
5th from Buccaneers (originally thought to be conditional, but haven’t heard anything definitive)
6th from Panthers
I don’t usually care much for stats, but here are some disheartening numbers from nfl.com’s Game Center:
1st DN (rush) 1st DN (pass) Avg gain/run play Avg gain/pass play
BAL 6 6 3.7 6.4
CLE 5 6 3.3 2.1
I really don’t remember the Browns being that close to the Ravens in number of 1st downs, but it’s all undercut by the average gains anyways, especially in the passing game.
I like a good screen, but I swear if I see the Browns throw one more with defenders sitting right on top of the play I am going to puke.
Ray Lewis is the dirtiest player I’ve ever witnessed.
SpecialBrownie - November 16, 2009

Hines Ward gets that title.

But he consistently gets away with clipping and blocking in the back.
Danimal, Destroyer of Worlds - November 16, 2009

Sounds like this was just a cowardly cheapshot that had no effect on the game or even the play at hand.

I definitely agree with you that Ray Lewis took a cheap shot. I’ve hated that guy since he played at Miami.
Danimal, Destroyer of Worlds - November 17, 2009

Oh ok. So because he hits hard, that means he is a murderer. Maybe your defense should try to “kill” people on the field as well.

Going for the jugular is painted in the Ravens locker room sadly.
SpecialBrownie - November 17, 2009
Lewis fucked him up in the neck. At least 5 seconds after the toss.
SpecialBrownie - November 16, 2009
wait, that was cribbs down? I thought it was Royal.
Ryan Kelsey - November 16, 2009
Cribbs.
golanbatrac - November 16, 2009
Damn, stopped watching immediately after the play was over.
Ryan Kelsey - November 16, 2009
BQ’s second half here was just putrid. Those last two long balls were absolutely horrendous. I’m at a loss for words.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 16, 2009
I thought it was funny. Seriously at that point in games I just laugh.
Though maybe it was cause of the wet ball.
skipkirk - November 16, 2009
Warren Sapp/Kyle Clifton style?
mgtbfb - November 16, 2009
He just cracked him and looked like he speared his neck.
SpecialBrownie - November 16, 2009
I honestly can’t believe I saw Lewis smile at the end of the game.
He must be well trained at this type of stuff.
SpecialBrownie - November 16, 2009
Didn’t he murder a fellow human being?
Simmsinns - November 16, 2009
Allegedly. He and 2 others were implicated
but he snitched on the others to avoid time and beat the rap.

I thought Lewis hit Royal.
Villeslgr - November 16, 2009
Naw. Lewis was in the back of the play and hit Cribbs I thought.
SpecialBrownie - November 16, 2009
This season just keeps getting worse.
Villeslgr - November 16, 2009
What happened to Cribbs?! I turned off the game with 10 minutes to go so missed it, but heard that Cribbs got hurt? What happened, what kind of play, did it look bad?
Simmsinns - November 16, 2009
Anyone? I really want to know what happened!
Simmsinns - November 16, 2009
LOOK UP!
SpecialBrownie - November 16, 2009
Thank you.
Simmsinns - November 16, 2009
Wow, I just cannot see a way forward for the Browns. I don’t know what to do positive. They just seem to . . . suck.
portland, oregon - November 16, 2009
Browns will never have a good season
until they get a logo. I recommend the Brownie Elf.
Farorefox - November 16, 2009
Yes, that is the problem. The Browns need a logo and they will suddenly become competent.
gahnki - November 16, 2009
I recommend a flag.
SpecialBrownie - November 16, 2009
ahhhh, you beat me to it!
mgtbfb - November 16, 2009
As much as I want Eric Berry, I’m slowly starting to think that the Browns may need to go with a QB. Unless scouts think that a player like Zac Robinson, Bill Stull or Casey Keenum will work. The best thing that could happen for the Browns is that Clausen and Locker decide to stay one more year. If not it will be at least 2 years until a franchise QB like Matt Barkley or Andrew Luck are eligible.
OSUMoneyball - November 16, 2009
I’d like to see the Browns cut one of Quinn/Anderson, sign a decent free-agent quarterback, and use their picks on other positions.
gahnki - November 16, 2009
Wow. 2003 – 2005 ish all over again?
SpecialBrownie - November 16, 2009
I don’t even know; all the years run together anymore.
gahnki - November 16, 2009
Exactly.
I thought Garcia and Dilfer were one in the same for some time.
SpecialBrownie - November 17, 2009
You mean the glory years??
Ryan Kelsey - November 17, 2009
Yes, this is preferable.
Berry would then solidify the defense (so long as it doesn’t regress).
skipkirk - November 16, 2009
I don’t know that this is necessarily a conversation that should be started…again, but why did you put decent and Browns in the same sentence?
Chief WaDrew - November 16, 2009
How can any QB do anything with the surrounding talent we have right now on offense though? It would just shake their confidence. We need a running game and defense first, then a QB.
Roger Dorn - November 16, 2009
Defense seems to be there...
need a QB that is willing to take some hits (unlike Quinn) and able to throw the ball in the field of play.
TigerPaw - November 17, 2009
Thank you Daboll.
Think of that yourself?
SpecialBrownie - November 17, 2009
What does that mean, willing to take some hits?
Villeslgr - November 17, 2009
I think he implies that we suck.
SpecialBrownie - November 17, 2009
stand in the pocket and wait for a receiver to make his turn..
vs.. ducking your head and running when the rush gets near.
TigerPaw - November 17, 2009
This only works if the route runner stays on his route.
Chief WaDrew - November 17, 2009
ball needs to land in the field of play at least...
at least half a dozen passes land on top of the photographers..
TigerPaw - November 17, 2009
Brees is going to throw an eye out one of these days.
He forces TDs.
Hes awesome. But dude. Control!
SpecialBrownie - November 17, 2009
He got sacked 4 times not exactly ducking and running when the rush gets near.
Villeslgr - November 17, 2009
you hear people all the time talking about standing in the pocket and taking a hit to get the ball off. quinn doesn’t do that, he starts backpedaling and throws wild passes off of his back foot. he needs to stand tall in the pocket and deliver the football, and not worry about the hit.
notthatnoise - November 17, 2009
That only helps if your offensive line can keep the defense off of you long enough to make it happen. Last night, the Ravens were all over Quinn and for the most part, it wasn’t his fault. The Ravens were bringing the house on almost every play because they knew the Browns couldn’t run on them with any success.
woodsmeister - November 17, 2009
At least we have 11 picks in the draft next year….we can’t screw up all 11 can we???
jharbdo - November 16, 2009

yuck, the syntax and grammar in that post is atrocious.

jharbdo - November 17, 2009
Analysis from an outsider
This was actually one of the better games (for the most part). Your D played admirably. Special Teams wasn’t bad. The Ints were due to the recievers. Your O-coordinator needs to be sacked for the worst O-play calling I’ve ever seen. A lot closer than the score suggested.
Farorefox - November 17, 2009
You see what we’ve been seeing, unfortunately the defense hasn’t always been able to give a full game effort like they did today leading to some of the bigger blow out scores.
Roger Dorn - November 17, 2009
We were damn near even on time of possession this game. That’s the difference in the defense.
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
This is par for the course. We are used to either our D not showing up at all or playing well. It’s just that to be honest, I have never, ever, in my 35 years seen a worse offense in the NFL at any than this one.
Think about it. 2 weeks to prepare. 2 weeks. And we get that.
johnnyphoenix - November 17, 2009

Redundancy happens in statements or same types of speech.
SpecialBrownie - November 17, 2009
How is it a double negative, then?
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
God is already holy.
Saying it again makes it a double negative.
One holy cancels the other.
SpecialBrownie - November 17, 2009
Wrong. There has to be some form of negation in order for it to be a double negative.

RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 17, 2009
Total embarrassment. I don’t give two shits who QB’s this team, Marino, Montana or Peyton Manning. The whole unit is garbage and that is led by Mangini and Dabol.
I never in my life have seen such a horrible offensive team, never.
Mangini better not survive this. He hired Dabol, he hired Kotankus, he drafted Veinkine and passed on McCoy.
This team will maybe beat the Raiders, 2-14. Just a shame.
This is on Mangini.
Grockcubs - November 17, 2009
Total Optimist.
SpecialBrownie - November 17, 2009
I am, you can’t tell me that this team has hit rock bottom. What Browns team has been worse. The 1999 team would beat this team. How in the world can you look at this with any hope.
It is plain and obvious to everyone except maybe you.
Grockcubs - November 17, 2009
I can. Mangini brought in Rob Ryan. He also brought in Maiava who I believe, given time, will contribute. I would’ve liked better if he could play next to Barton or Jackson but that’s just the way it is.
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
How about Dabol and the fired GM,? How about the total digression of this offense?
When the Browns lose to the Lions, that will step up the process for the overhaul of this team, once again.
Lerner understands his mistake.
Grockcubs - November 17, 2009
So Daboll is a mistake.A lot of people believe so, including me. Given that Seely and Ryan are fine, that’s 2/3. Name me someone that is perfect who is gunna be a 3/3.
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
As for the GM, none of us are in a position to criticise him because no one knew what happened. We can criticise Mangini for not letting us know, but that’s as far as it’ll go.
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
Why is it that for the second time this year, 8 games into the season the Players association is going to investigate Mangini. First for the water bottles now the claims by Lewis and the practice routines. Fair or not, this is still going on. He has hired Dabol that is a total failure. What about the O line coach or even the QB coach? This offense is the worst I have seen in 40 years, that includes the 1999 Browns who look like a machine compared to this team.
Grockcubs - November 17, 2009
It is these kinda water bottle fines and hard practice routines that have made us go from 32nd in penalties to 1st (or 2nd depending on today’s). And in my opinion, those fines are fair. We just have some players who seem to want to have a cry about it.
And Lewis? Most people here agree that he’s a whiner.
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
Not to be rude, but who gives a shit if we are first in penalties when we are averaging 9 points a game?
Bernie19Kosar - November 17, 2009
Mangini may not have used the taboo word but we are rebuilding. We’ll give a shit if we’re in a position to win. And hey, we were in a position to win for 2 quarters.
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
Hello, penalties killed us last nite….
Red-Right-88 - November 17, 2009
our offense had much more to do with it then penalties, i’ll bet we only had about 5 penalties, which seems about average
notthatnoise - November 17, 2009
Yeah we had 6. I’ll take one off because of that Trusnik “low hit”. So 5.
I think the offense had 3.
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
This isn’t all about football. To Mangini football players happen to be human beings. You build them as players but more importantly as human beings.
I’ll add that I’m with you in saying that the offense is one of the worst I’ve seen. But when your Head Coach is leading you in a right direction in one area, you don’t yank him because he’s going in a wrong direction in another. You yank the root of the problem that is Daboll.
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
You make valid points. I just don’t by into the Mangini style. I agree accountability and dedication were needed on this team. I am just not sold on Mangini the coach.
Grockcubs - November 17, 2009
This isn’t college. It isn’t Mangini’s job to shape these guys as “human beings”. It is his job to win some football games.
There is a reason why complete dirt bags like Ray Lewis and Leonard Little are still playing football. They help their coach win football games. Same goes for Mike Vick and soon Larry Johnson. If Mangini wants to shape young men into good human beings, he should take his ass down the Big Brothers office in Cleveland.
Bernie19Kosar - November 17, 2009
Fair point. But it’s easier to deal with players with good character than with those who don’t isn’t it?
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
No one said that coaching in the NFL was easy.
Bernie19Kosar - November 17, 2009
True story on Rob Ryan and Maiava… What was Mangini in New England? It’s been my understanding that he’s more of a defensive minded coach. Maybe Mangini just sucks at offense. I honestly think the best thing to do is hire the Bill Parcells type of guy ASAP, let him can Brian Daboll, and hire a new OC. The defense seems to be coming around, and I think that’s mostly because of Ryan and Mangini both being defensive guys. Mangini probably isn’t a huge offensive guy and Daboll just sucks in general.
shep615 - November 17, 2009
You know, why does Mangini get all the blame for the offense but none of the credit for the defense? The D played a hell of a game tonight.
Lynch Daboll. That is all.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 17, 2009
I will not argue about the “D”. Mangini is the head coach fair or not he will take the heat. I give more credit to Ryan for the “D” than Mangini.
Grockcubs - November 17, 2009
Fair enough, but conversely why shouldn’t Daboll get more “credit” for the earth-shatteringly awful offense?

I agree he has to go. Hopefully by 8:00 am Tuesday.
Grockcubs - November 17, 2009
No No No. I called you an optimist.
SpecialBrownie - November 17, 2009
No shit. Yeah I can’t wait till next year, so we can do this all over again with this head coach.
Grockcubs - November 17, 2009
Oh YEAH. Good times…good times.
johnnyphoenix - November 17, 2009
No way in hell we can beat the Raiders…….. well maybe if Cribbs makes it back but even then I really really doubt it.

Another QB Change in Cleveland
Eric Mangini, embattled head coach of the offensively inept Cleveland Browns, has made another QB change in the continuing carousel of Browns signal callers. When asked about the change by local media, Mangini responded:
Elmo’s Seasonal Stats: 3’1. 22 lbs. Lives in an apartment with his mommy, his daddy, and, in some storybooks, a sister named Daisy.
johnnyphoenix - November 17, 2009
3’1", 22 pounds lmao
emily522 - November 18, 2009
I enjoyed the fireworks tonight.
Our new punter stinks. How long is Zastudil out?
Can’t we find some other castoff to fill McDonald’s spot?
tribe71 - November 17, 2009
Yeah. McDonald is just atrocious. His girlfriend used to work for me, and she got fired because she never showed up to work. Looks like a trend here. True story.
johnnyphoenix - November 17, 2009
Sabrina on KNR?
Ryan Kelsey - November 17, 2009
McDonald on Twitter today: “Da countdown to the end of the season begins. 7 more games.”
Roger Dorn - November 17, 2009
That’s awful.
Ryan Kelsey - November 17, 2009
Not any worse than his tackling.
Roger Dorn - November 17, 2009
Or coverage.
holmes213 - November 17, 2009
Also true.
Ryan Kelsey - November 17, 2009
Another quality Savage draft pick.
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
Not bad for a 5th rounder
TheRealSlimShady - November 17, 2009
How many close games have been blown wide open by one of his ‘tackles’ this year?
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
You are cmopletely missing my point
TheRealSlimShady - November 17, 2009
Your point being?
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
He isn’t a “bust” or anything. It usually isn’t bad when you find a nickel back in the 5th round
TheRealSlimShady - November 17, 2009
At this point, I don’t think he’s a viable option at nickel back either.
He doesn’t want it. It’s as simple as that.
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
wow. can we cut this guy?
emily522 - November 18, 2009
yep.
johnnyphoenix - November 17, 2009
Which leg is Zastudil getting the operation on?
tribe71 - November 17, 2009
Quinn’s QB rating of 23.5 tonight was better than Anderson in his last game but was below
Anderson’s season rating of 36.2
We don’t have to see much more of Quinn to know we don’t want him back next year, but if he has more games like this, we won’t be able to pay anybody enough to take him off our hands.
palcal - November 17, 2009
Well I don’t ever want to see any more of DA so who should we use as QB Ratliff?
Brownsfan4ever - November 17, 2009
I’d stick with Quinn for now. I highly doubt whoever our #3 QB is would yield better results. And I think Quinn needs to see more snaps before we say he can’t improve. No one is going to win with our team right now, so why not give him a chance to salvage his career?
shep615 - November 17, 2009
I agree with you on this. Was just asking palcal who he wanted to QB because DA should never be able to QB another NFL team
Brownsfan4ever - November 17, 2009
Gradkowski and Frye will be coming to town next month with the Raiders.. Maybe we can get one of them to stick around after Quinn and DA clean out their lockers.
palcal - November 17, 2009
Man, I never thought I’d Gradkowski’s name again and think anything but “Well, it could be much worse…”
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 17, 2009
Come on, give Quinn a chance to prove he’s not the QB of the future. For goodness sake, he only took 174 NFL snaps before this game. Give him some time to adjust, strip Brian Daboll of his play calling abilities, and let Quinn play against a defense that isn’t a top tier defense. The poor kid hasn’t been able to catch a break.
shep615 - November 17, 2009
You’re right, of course. Hard to stomach (what I hope are) the growing pains, is all.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 17, 2009
No thanks.Don’t even want to relive the Frye guy time
Brownsfan4ever - November 17, 2009
Charlie Frye QB rating for career: 70.4
Red-Right-88 - November 17, 2009
The drama!!!
Brownsyup - November 17, 2009
Well, living in the bay area right now, they are actually considering starting Gradkowski. Really.
holmes213 - November 17, 2009
Got to stick with BQ for now. God help us, but what choice is there at this point? Ratliff in a few weeks maybe if BQ continues like this, but until then….
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 17, 2009
Quinn starts from here on out. There is no debate.
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
This.
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
This is true, but need more than 3 step drops for 3 yrds. He should have aired it out earlier, to keep he safties honest.
holmes213 - November 17, 2009
What is really sad is the Lions look better then us and this is after they went 0-16 last year.
Brownsfan4ever - November 17, 2009
The Bengals have had a bigger turnaround than the Lions.
palcal - November 17, 2009
The Lions also didn’t have a franchise QB return to form.
Chief WaDrew - November 17, 2009
My point is the Lions can at least look like they are moving in the right direction while the Browns well…
Brownsfan4ever - November 17, 2009
Lions will be looking ahead to Thanksgiving….we can install a new offense in a few days and smother them….well..maybe?
Red-Right-88 - November 17, 2009
As lomg as Daboll is calling the plays look for more games like today
Brownsfan4ever - November 17, 2009
the browns defense looks very encouraging, lets not forget this ravens team actually has an explosive offense, and they were held to a touchdown and a field goal.
notthatnoise - November 17, 2009
Something also has to be done about Quinn and St Clair. Give them a box to stay in for 2 nights so they can talk things over. Who the heck knows what’s going on between them..
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
This is a serious matter that needs to be looked into. If something doesn’t change cut St. Clair first.
Simmsinns - November 17, 2009
St Clair doesn’t hate Quinn. There has to be some difference between Quinn and Anderson that exposes a vulnerability in St Clair’s game when Quinn is under center. Figure out what that is, and problem solved.
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
That and the blitz’ the Ravens were bringing.
holmes213 - November 17, 2009
Perhaps it’s just as simple as the fact that St. Clair is really not a good football player.
woodsmeister - November 17, 2009
Perish the thought.
johnnyphoenix - November 17, 2009
We waited two weeks for that?
Bernie19Kosar - November 17, 2009
Agree on all accounts.
Two points. Even when the Ravens rushed 3 Quinn had issues getting the ball off. They even sacked him on a 3 man rush.
Dabol should never call a play again in Cleveland.
Grockcubs - November 17, 2009
Yes, that was unbearable and unbelievable. The MNF booth was clamoring for a deep ball and they spoke for the rest of the fans.
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
Oh and the amount of times we lose yardage on a freakin’ pass play. What the heck? I understand getting stuffed on the run, but when you keep losing yardage on pass plays you know Daboll is in cuckooland.
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
Well not hard to understand how we would keep losing yards on pass plays when every pass Daboll calls is a feaking screen play or a little 3 and out. This guy needs to go like last week.If mangini is not forced to fire this fool then there is no hope in righting this thing even a little bit.
Brownsfan4ever - November 17, 2009
Who here thinks even a broken down Bernie could call a better game?
Red-Right-88 - November 17, 2009
I think my 2 yr old daughter who has no clue on football could call a better game.
Brownsfan4ever - November 17, 2009
I know what’d work. We should just ‘Ask Madden’.
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
Hit Stick
holmes213 - November 17, 2009
It is going ot be very hard to see a game with out Cribbs out there and there is a chance we might not see him the rest of the season. One has to hope that the hit on him will not be in his mind when he does get back on the field.
Has anyone heard how bad he was hurt yet?
Brownsfan4ever - November 17, 2009
“Josh Cribbs was taken to the hospital after taking a blow to the throat and head area on the final play of Monday night’s loss to the Ravens. Cribbs was released Tuesday morning, according to Alex Marvez of FOX. Coach Eric Mangini said that Cribbs has movement and feeling all over his body and was taken to the hospital as more of a precaution. Expect Cribbs, the Browns only real playmaker, to miss at least one week.”
-from the National Football Post, via the Browns’ Rotoworld Wire box on the front page here. That’s a relief.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 17, 2009
At first I thought maybe it was just that the camera angles weren’t showing anybody more than 15 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. Then I heard one of the announcers (Gruden?) in the third round comment that he hadn’t seen one of them run a route more than 15-20 yards deep. That was when I realized that the problem was a combination of Daboll’s calls and St. Claire’s matador impression.
JustBob - November 17, 2009
The record of the opponents the Browns have faced: 44-28, without playing the browns: 36-27. For a silver lining, you have to believe our defense will eat up Stafford on Sunday
(yes we need to move on quickly)
Red-Right-88 - November 17, 2009
The defense will be fine. The offense, however….
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 17, 2009
Unless the Lions get McDonald on Calvin Johnson.
Bernie19Kosar - November 17, 2009
Ewwwww True.
Red-Right-88 - November 17, 2009
I think the WRs practiced the tip drill…over and over and over and over again.
BLAZER_FAN_199 - November 17, 2009
As much as I want to place blame on the receivers for the INTs, those passes were way off the mark.
Roger Dorn - November 17, 2009
That seems to be a on going issue with the two QB’s we have. Most pass’s are off the mark not sure what is going on with that.
Brownsfan4ever - November 17, 2009
There is nothing they do well.
drjeo - November 17, 2009
I don’t know, they seem pretty adept at 3 and outs.
North Coast Flea - November 17, 2009
St Clair doesn’t hate Quinn.
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
my “Brady hater” comment was intended as sarcasm. Sorry, I should have marked it as such. I don’t actually think that, but there is no doubt that St. Clair has played much more poorly when Quinn is in the backfield this year. And BTW: how do you know that St. Clair doesn’t hate him? Sure, it would be professional suicide to let personal animosity interfere with one’s play, but I don’t believe for a minute that it doesn’t happen sometimes: not in the performance of basic tasks, but in the willingness (or lack of willingness) to give full effort.
drjeo - November 17, 2009
To be fair, Quinn has faced better defenses than Anderson. Next week should build his confidence.
holmes213 - November 17, 2009
the one to furrey should have been easily caught, hell i played guard and i could have caught that ball.
notthatnoise - November 17, 2009
Can’t get separation, unreliable catchers, incorrect route reads – the whole trifecta of suck.
drjeo - November 17, 2009
I agree with you on everything, but also want to add that on Monday, you can’t get seperation if you don’t get a chance to leave the line of scrimage.
holmes213 - November 17, 2009
this year’s Raiders may have something to say about that
bbstirrd - November 17, 2009
Louis Murphy at least gets some separation
TheRealSlimShady - November 17, 2009
Warren Moon disagreed. I haven’t seen either INT, so can’t say.
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
Let’s just say that everyone sucks. Pass off target, receivers let it bounce off their hands in the air. Playcalling only has receivers running 3-5 yards routes. Thsi combination makes for the worst offense in NFL history.
Roger Dorn - November 17, 2009
This should be the new subitle for DBN.
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
When things look this bad there are almost always multiple problems. It is like the perfect storm or one of those engineering disasters on TV. All these factors both big and small combine to create total crapitude.
Brownsyup - November 17, 2009
*subtitle
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
Quite. If we’re assessing blame, I chalk up one INT to Furrey and one to a lousy pass by BQ. That pretty much comes down to everyone sucking a bit, so there you go.
RelapsingDawgCatcher - November 17, 2009
It’s the “Perfect Storm” of suck
North Coast Flea - November 18, 2009
Damn, someone already made that comparison.
North Coast Flea - November 18, 2009
Brownsyup - November 17, 2009
There was a play in the 3rd quarter (I think) when Furrey seemed so shocked that he actually caught the ball, he tripped over his own feet.
bbstirrd - November 17, 2009
That made me laugh.
Brownsyup - November 17, 2009
the other teams defensive players catch better than the Browns receivers.
JasonA - November 18, 2009
Were any of you timing how long Quinn had to throw the ball? It looked like Ravens were in his face in practically every play until the 4th quarter. It also looked like Quinn was not permitted to take any sort of shot past 10 yards until mid-way through the 4th quarter (and those long balls at the end were horrible). Daboll stinks. Let Carl Smith call plays.
I think Harrison has been getting fewer opportunities because he can’t block effectively. With the lousy O-line play, this appears essential. We should have had Gaines in there, if he was healthy, because he can actually block and catch.
NM Dawg - November 17, 2009
Offensive line wasn’t great. Steinbach and St. Clair stood out in my mind as having terrible games. Couldn’t believe how poorly Steinbach played, St. Clair less surprising.
Roger Dorn - November 17, 2009
The sad part is that a 3 man rush was getting to Quinn.
Roger Dorn - November 17, 2009
I was surprised with Steinbach, too. I wonder what would happen if we slid him over to right tackle, and put someone else in at left guard.
NM Dawg - November 17, 2009
He’s too small to play tackle.
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
I agree. But I believe he played some tackle for the Bengals when they had injury issues.
Ryan Kelsey - November 17, 2009
I did not know that.
golanbatrac - November 17, 2009
He was a college tackle. I can see how he might not have the girth to be a starting tackle. The Browns were having him work some as backup left tackle in pre-season, though, so I thought his speed and technique might be advantageous on the other side.
NM Dawg - November 17, 2009
They lost all respect for the long ball. The Ravens I mean.
So they just blitzed him all night long. What else do you want to do.
skipkirk - November 17, 2009
What long ball? For the offense, the “long ball” was 5 yards. I know that is your point, but open up the playbook. Quinn has been in the league for 3 years now.
holmes213 - November 17, 2009
yeah, Harrison clearly missed a block on the sack by ray lewis. still, shoudn’t he at at least be getting opportunities to run the ball?
JasonA - November 18, 2009
Our Offense sucks so damn bad that I stoppd watching with 5 minutes left.
We really could have won that game.
Brownie's Year - November 17, 2009
Good luck
Bruce Raffel - November 17, 2009
The hit on Cribbs was way behind the play. No reason for it.
Quinn was trying to tackle the ball carrier and Suggs got in his way. I don’t think he will or should get fined.
Ryan Kelsey - November 17, 2009
I like how he is extremely biased.
Cribbs hit: Totally legal.
Quinn: He should be fined harder than Lewis.
Bruce, shut up.
SpecialBrownie - November 17, 2009
Thanks, we will be all right.
Roger Dorn - November 17, 2009
Go away. Stop with the trolling disguised as ‘consideration.’
johnnyphoenix - November 17, 2009
That’s pretty much wrong. The Raven’s offense isn’t a mystery at this point; there is very little to hide as far as formations/concepts/personnel goes. They were simply out-played by the Browns defense. No shame in admitting that although you seem like the type of person who will not concede anything.
gahnki - November 17, 2009
And all this talk of Rice, he didnt impress me at all. Hey the ravens have beaten the browns twice and the chiefs….ya they are good!
Red-Right-88 - November 18, 2009
Stupid call by Mangini? And Cribs is upset he was out there on the field for the last game? Ahhhhh! Every snap Quinn gets is worth something, and hopefully we are trying to score on each play. Is Cribbs a member of the Browns? Why shouldnt he be out there for the last play? Now if we had a shot at the playoffs, then you watch stuff like that. KNR said that Cribbs agent said, Cribbs is “mad at Mangini” for being on the field for the last play.
Red-Right-88 - November 17, 2009
Thats B.S. the reception would be like a kick return, he was the best one to give the ball to in that situation. He wants a bigger contract, but doesn’t want to see the field?
holmes213 - November 17, 2009
From the Yahoo account of the game:
“Flacco connected on a 41-yard pass to Derrick Mason, who spun out of cornerback Brandon McDonald’s tackle and raced down the sideline to the Cleveland 13.”
I think it’s extremely generous to call McDonald’s effort there a “tackle”. He got caught completely in no-man’s land. He had no play on the ball, but acted like he thought he could jump the route. As a result, he was too far upfield, and had no shot at Mason. His “tackle” barely grazed Mason, at best. It was a truly awful play that changed the entire tenor of the game at that point.
drjeo - November 17, 2009
It was McDonald’s signature move!

What Offense?
There is no way an offense can win in the NFL. And as John Gruden put it, you could put any quarterback in history behind that line , and with that game plan , and theres no way they could succeed. For Petes’s sake, when you cant block a three man rush, thats pathetic. Its going to take a complete offensive rebuild and a different attitude before this team can win on a consistant basis, the futility of this system makes me ashamed.
HillBillyZag - November 17, 2009

Otherwise, I agree with you.
drjeo - November 17, 2009
Does anyone know the actual rounds of the picks we already have?
johnnyphoenix - November 17, 2009
1-7 at our regular slot
3rd from Jets (potentially 2nd depending on Edwards)
5th from Jets
5th from Buccaneers (originally thought to be conditional, but haven’t heard anything definitive)
6th from Panthers
Roger Dorn - November 17, 2009
Well all I can say is as long as Daboll is OC look for more of the same run, run, screen and put Offense
Brownsfan4ever - November 17, 2009
JustBob - November 17, 2009
Brady Quinn played well for a guy seeking an employer.
We´re losing a competitor.
mooncamping - November 18, 2009
What did Quinn do right?
- I would say he has a quick release, which would work well with those slants. (the accuracy will come with the in-game reps).
-Mobile, just needs to know when to run (again comes with experience)
-No fumbles snaps, but those happy feet have to go, we all could tell how nervous he was back there.
