Browns Add Punter Reggie Hodges to Roster

7386_mediumCleveland Browns punter Dave Zastudil was listed as questionable on the team's injury report with a knee injury. According to reports today, the team signed veteran punter Reggie Hodges.

Hodges entered the league back in 2005 as a 6th round draft pick of the St. Louis Rams. He only lasted a year with them, as he had a below average 38.0 yards-per-punt average on 22 attempts, with only one punt being downed inside the 20.

Hodges didn't see action again until 2008 when he played 12 games with the Jets. In 2009, he played four games with the Titans. His career average of 40.1 yards per punt isn't ideal for a Browns team that needs to pin teams back often to compensate for our lack of offense. Zastudil was averaging 44.7 yards-per-punt with the Browns this season.

This isn't a guarantee that Zastudil will miss Monday's game, considering the team still had a roster spot open. Two weeks ago, Phil Dawson played but Billy Cundiff was still on the team's 53-man roster at the time.

Is it really that hard to find a good punter?

The punter/kicker for my high school can punt over 50 yards and it is his first year playing football

What about his hang time?

IDK but he does have offers to North Carolina and Duke and some other colleges, and like I said it is his first year to play football.

Distance is one thing. Pinning it in the 20 is another.

What division is your high school football team in?

Here in Ohio, high school teams between divisions 4-6 usually struggle with finding a good consistent punter. The top divisions usually are not as bad. But, most D6 school consider a net 30 yard punt really good.

We also have a beast running back that is legally blind and he has to squint to read

i sure hope our team MVP isn’t injured this week

Wow. Foreshadowing.

He's black!

Since when can they kick?!?!?

What, no comments about Mangini signing another ex-Jet?

Let’s just day that if a 6 to 10 yard difference in punting average is the reason for a loss to the Ravens, I would expect our offense and defense played well enough to win.

Don’t start about the ex-Jet thing mate

The current roster according to mooncamping:

QB Brett Ratliff
RB ?
RB filled by acquired player not on our roster (AP/NR)
OT ?
OG Hank Fraley
C ?
OG Alex Mack
OT ?
TE Robert Royal
FL ?
WR ?

DT ?
DT ?
DT ?
OLB AP/NR
ILB AP/NR
ILB AP/NR
OLB AP/NR
FS AP/NR
SS ?

Of course we are playing the temps, some of which could retain their slots (Thomas, Elam…). Just my duty to inform.

I thought Steinbach could play center in your schemes?

Is he fat enough, yet?

Mangini wanted his playing weight at near 300. Is that fat enough for you?

Can you get a photo?

I don’t have a photo, but you did once say the following:

The ideal center has short legs and a long strong torso,
like for example:
Eric Steinbach

You guys are “on” today. If pre-game banter is any indication, the Ravens should be worried.

Right, that doesn´t sound like a compliment, does it? But it is.
To have a physique that predisposes you to be excellent at a certain position is beneficial.
@Spidey: It´s not pre-game banter, we´re just that weird.

we? speaking for Dorn now, huh?

Why? Did you want to be included?

But then again, you´re doing quite alright in that regard yourself.

I am okay with the characterization.

that’s fair. moon tends to be a bit ridiculous though.

One more thing, before the game:

I see what you did there.

Not amusing to me, but. Whatcha gonna do.

Beat the Ratbirds tonight for me

So I can guarantee I don’t see them in the playoffs. Though with the Stoolers ahead of them, and us now being 3 games ahead of them(plus the series), they probably won’t be in the playoffs anyway. I will only root for the Ratbirds twice when they play the Stoolers. But to be honest, I’d rather face the Stoolers again in the playoffs than say, the Texans. The Texans just seem to be Bengal killers. We match up poorly against them.

You’re asking for too much.

look out NFL here come the Browns now with this guy

he will turn around the season
