Just a reminder to everybody: Browns owner Randy Lerner will hold a 10 PM press conference for the media. However, following the trend of him not having a "public" face with the organization, no recording devices will be allowed in the room. The reporters better have their pens and papers ready.
Following the conference, the media will report what was said. If you have a radio nearby and are in the Cleveland area, WTAM-1100 is reportedly standing by to cover all news related to the Browns today. I'm not sure if their online feed works properly, but you can test it out and see.

NYJ has fired Man-genius. Do we want him? Can we afford him?
I’d much prefer someone with previous head coaching experience to take the reins.

Unless we land someone like Cowher, I think it’s almost a crapshoot on whether youth vs. experience ultimately pays off in a head coach. I guess we could consider him a candidate.

The Browns have named three “rookies” to the head coaching position, and have had very little success.
JulioBernazard - December 29, 2008
And this past year the Ravens, Dolphins, and Falcons hired “rookie” head coaches who immediately turned those teams around, and all three are in the playoffs. So you can’t really say that you need an experienced coach, it’s just something the fans complain about if a new hire doesn’t work out.
Fans are so stupid: If you hire a new coach and he fails then they’ll complain you should have hired someone with experience, but if you hire an experienced coach and he fails then they’ll complain that you shouldn’t have hired a retread and should have hired the “hot” coordinator. Second-guessing is very easy to do, and every fan thinks he would be a better owner/GM/coach than whoever is currently in those positions.

Considering what we probably offered Cowher, I’d say Mangini would be affordable.
woodsmeister - December 29, 2008
Apparently it didn’t even get to that, Cowher just said “I don’t want to coach next year”.
rufio - December 29, 2008
But didn’t Cowher just say he’d listen to the Jets situation?

NO

I just keep seeing different things on ESPN. First he was interested, then there was no way he was coming back in 2009, now they “have expressed mutual interest” in meeting.
I think he wants the job but wants some personnel control. I think he didn’t want our job and didn’t know how to tell Lerner that it would be too weird to coach his old rival.
Sounds too much like the Brett Favre saga(s).

Lerner apparently says Romeo will be offered another job with the Browns.

I have a problem with him not putting his face out there. Less of a problem than I do with him putting Quinn and Thomas out there, though. I find great irony in the fact that the two faces of the franchise were from the same draft, in a move orchestrated by the guy Lerner just fired.
